There is growing awareness that some people do not appear to recover their former health using the standard levothyroxine (T4) thyroid medication and may remain with many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism that they first went to their doctor with. The author describes his struggle with hypothyroidism and how eventually he regained his health using a medication called liothyronine sodium, which is a synthetic equivalent of the thyroid hormone T3. The use of T3 finally enabled the author to make a complete recovery, although there were many lessons that he needed to learn about T3 in order to regain his health. This book covers a vast amount of technical and practical information relating to T3 medication and details how the author applied this information in order to get well. The book has a foreword by Dr. John C. Lowe, who has this to say about the book: "Paul Robinson has written a book chock-full of information on T3 that is vitally important to many people. I believe that reading 'Recovering with T3 My Journey from Hypothyroidism to Good Health Using the T3 Thyroid Hormone' will be a splendid experience for thousands of people, whether clinicians, patients, patient advocates, or patients' loved ones." 'Recovering with T3' is quite simply essential reading for any patient and their doctor if they are considering the use of the T3 thyroid hormone. This revised edition contains many enhancements and improvements over the original Recovering with T3 book released at the end of 2011. Enhancements were made due to some valuable patient feedback and the experience of thousands of thyroid patients with the T3 dosage management process and the highly effective circadian T3 method (CT3M). The Revised Edition of the book is the result of these improvements, some simple typo fixes and the addition of a much-requested index. "Thank you!" to thyroid patients around the world for the wonderful feedback that has enabled the creation of this Revised Edition with an index.

Wow-- This is a packed-filled book about the thyroid hormone --(especially low levels of T3).
I've already been studying this topic: I'm being treated for 'low' levels of T3 ****FINALLY**** --but it took 4 doctors (extra time-and money) ---to get the help I really needed. I'm doing MUCH better than last year!!!
The author shares his journey in this book. Yet --the book gets VERY technical. I suggested my Functional Medicine Doctor read it. He ordered his own copy. An open-thinking- medical doctor may understand 'details' in this book better than the average person. (but the average person understand MOST of this book). Paul Robinson 'has/had' issues which were much like my own. (which is why I bought his book). He's a damn good writer on this topic. COVERS just abut everything!!!
'Most' conventional doctors treat TSH levels (but do not 'treat' the low 'abnormal' levels of T3). In Functional Medicine they DO 'treat' low levels of T3. I work with 'both' --a conventional medical doctor ---AND and Functional medical doctor. (truth is --I'm making the BIGGEST health improvement since adding the FUNCTIONAL medical doctor). ---
This book is a guide -- Good information --Reference Type book!
Understanding T3 and treating it, (or not?--I say TREAT IT!!!!!--as the author does too), is a complicated story. Unless you NEED the information in this book --or have a loved one who needs this information....NO NEED to read this book. (go read a juicy novel)....lol
However --for 'anyone' taking thyroid medication (even if things are normal NOW) ---it still might be a goo idea to read SOMETHING. (Do your own research --try to understand what YOU need).
I would suggest another book BEFORE 'this' book: (for most people)
"Izabelle Wentz PharmD, FASCP ---has a book (and great website) -- Her book is called: "Hashimoto's Thyroiditis" Lifestyle for finding and Treating the Root Cause.
However....WOW!!!!! --and CHEERS to Paul Robinson for his Science/medical/writings skills. And THANKS to 'him' for sharing his journey!
Just finished reading it as I'm suffering from hypothyroidism, and my current medication doesn't seem to do squat. So I'm slowly moving away from the dreaded Thyroxine (synthetic T4, sold around here under the name of Euthyrox) and beginning to experiment with T3 (from which I'm already seeing positive results).
This book is truly the 'bible' for anyone who feels that they still have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism despite taking the synthetic version of T4 AND despite doctors insisting that 'nothing is wrong with you, you're OK' because the lab tests are 'within range'. If you suffer from hypothyroidism and don't seem to get well no matter how often your levels of Synthoid have been increased, this books should be a primer in learning how to switch to the better T3 and how to properly dose it throughout the day for optimal health.
Of course working with a good doctor should be of utmost importance, but if the doctors insist in ONLY giving Thyroxine, well, thankfully this book exists and it is there to show us that there is a healthy life after doctors as well.
Not as good as was led to believe, has some interesting pointers but I struggled to read & concentrate on the information therein I suppose it has it's usefulness
The book, “Recovering with T3” exists because of one man’s pain and suffering which extended over a twenty year period. Because of its existence and due to Paul Robinson’s extensive research and experience, thousands of patients world- wide, are reducing their pain and suffering by following the protocol laid out in this book. I am one of those patients. I will be forever grateful for placing my trust in Paul’s work and his personal testimony. My chronic health issues began twenty five years ago and after using T3 only I can gladly say, “I feel normal for the first time in over two decades.”
Insomnia, hypertension, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, and unexplained weight gain, (to name but a few of my debilitating symptoms) were ‘treated’ with prescription drugs. But those symptoms worsened and my life became one exhausting battle to survive. Every time I found the energy to delve into my symptoms I came up with underactive thyroid but when I took these concerns to my doctor, he’d do the TSH test and tell me, “It isn’t your thyroid.”
Precious years of my life have been wasted, due to lack of a proper diagnosis. Not wanting to appear like a hypochondriac, I portrayed an outward calmness whilst inside I was slowly drowning in a sea of despair. They say, “You cannot judge a book by its cover,” and thyroid disease is not obvious to the casual observer, so I had no difficulty getting jobs. My difficulty was in keeping jobs because I simply could not function well when the slightest stress presented itself. I retreated from the world, but put on my happy face when forced to interact with friends and family. Those days are now behind me.
The information from Paul Robinson’s book gave me everything I needed to correct a huge reverse T3 problem and proceed under the guidance of the book with T3 only. It turns out that I am one of those people who cannot tolerate or convert T4 well, so I needed an effective alternative to Natural Dessicated Thyroid. Paul's book contains a safe method for using T3 and it also has a new approach for correcting adrenal function (called CT3M). I was hesitant to try CT3M at first due my very poor sleep, but was amazed at how quickly my body cleared the RT3 and utilized T3 effectively.
Paul explains the function of the thyroid and adrenal glands and tells of his own journey after he realized that his health was far from what it should be. He covers the use of T3 thoroughly, and explains in detail how to dose, including the benefit of multi-dosing throughout the day. His methods strengthen the adrenal glands by assisting the body’s natural circadian rhythms. It took someone like Paul who has an analytical personality and a background in research to put pen to paper and publish his findings. Much of his motivation came from finding scores of fellow sufferers wandering aimlessly from doctor to doctor in search of a treatment that would once and for all rid them of their pain.
“Recovering with T3” is a valuable resource that I will keep by my side as I continue to improve and I gladly endorse it to anyone I feel could benefit from its wealth of information. Thank you Paul for writing “Recovering from T3” as it has given me the key to my deliverance from hypothyroidism
