Ultimate Italian playboy Count Roman Quisvada has more notches on his bedpost than…well, bedpost! So when no-nonsense Eva Skavanga arrives on his Mediterranean island with a business arrangement, Roman's much more interested in the pleasure her smart mouth can bring him.
He's not the sort of man a tender virgin would seek out for her first time, but tomboy Eva is starting to enjoy his attention—it makes her feel like a real woman. Perhaps Roman could help her with more than just securing her family's diamond mine…? But only if she can keep her heart off the table!
USA TODAY best-selling author Susan Stephens' books have captivated readers worldwide with over 11 million copies sold. Her work crosses cultures and continents, having been translated into 26 languages and reaching readers in 109 countries. This year marks a milestone as Susan's 100th book is slated for publication.
Somewhere along the line all woman have come across the type of men that think they are God's gift to woman, every single delicious inch a badboy.
They strut around thinking they own the world, and of course all they need to do is look at any female they want and she will immediately see how quick she can strip and jump in bed with him.
The hero, Roman Quisvada , from the new Susan Stephens read is exactly like this, however as we all know it takes the love of the right woman to tame a badboy. The woman to seduce his mind and claim his soul is hell cat and all spitting fire Eva Skavanga.
On a mission to prove a point and safe her town's number one source of income she sets out to take him on face to face, after all he has been avoiding her calls for months so she does not have any other option left.
But arriving on his island and stepping into a head to head battle with the one man that makes her body burn hotter than the desert sun , is not as easy as she thought. For once in her life she wants to be the wanted, desired, treasured woman she has always craved but never dared, because to beat the men you need to be one of them, but to beat this man she needs to let her mask drop and that will never do.
The character of Eva was a truly phenomenal character. She had so much fire and guts I just wanted to hug her and congratulate her on being one heck of an amazing woman! She stood up for what she believed in, she fought when you would expect other woman to not fight. And she gave as good as she got each and every time Roman takes her on. Yes, she does have a few hangup's but which woman doesn't ! Through this character the author showed that when you are truly passionate about something there is nothing that will stand in your way.
The character of in-my-arms-you-will-find-pleasure-but-only-when-you-are-ready Roman was of course all kinds of tempting deliciousness, but as mentioned so sure of himself when it comes to bedding Eva that yes most woman would think him a true bastard and rather walk away. However as I read on I discovered the reason for his 'what I see I get' attitude. Through this character the author showed just how influential our background and earlier years in life can be, and just how much you can discover when chipping away at someone's defenses.
The backdrop settings and dialogue was pure sexy! From the very romantic city of Rome to the words of fire and ice, it all blended to perfection. I am taking away a message of we all hide our secrets for fear of being walked over and left to try and survive. But whilst hiding behind our masks of insecurities, hurt, anger and pain we miss out on the true person we are meant to be, never hide always be just you for no matter what someone out there is going to want you for you and not for who you pretend to be.
I highly recommend this read for all Susan Stephens fans! The author always delivers fun, feisty, out there sexy romances reads and this time was no different. I am eagerly awaiting book three from this series to read just how hot and sexy Leila and Raffa 's journey will be!
5/5 Star Review " Even diamonds are as cold as ice, until their beauty is unleashed "
Roman Qusiveda is the Italian count who is another member of the consortium (he was introduced briefly in the first book of this series). He has provided the money and means for the actual mining of the diamonds, as well as the production after the diamonds have been extracted.
Eva Skavanga, Britt's middle sister, is as fiery tempered as her red hair suggests and is opposed to Roman's plans as she's a hardcore eco-conservist and is worried that the mining will scar and ruin the beautiful Arctic and would rather concentrate on eco-tourism.
The two of them already don't like each other since meeting at Britt's wedding and are clashing even more over this issue. After getting into an argument with her sister's over her attitude and handling of this, Eva sets off to Roman's private Italian island (he's there to attend his cousin's wedding) to confront him and make him listen to her concerns. He is livid to see her (there first meeting was funny- she decides to go for a swim in his pool in her underwear and gets caught red handed) after threatening to throw her off the island, agrees to let her stay at his home because that way he can keep an eye on her and figures she will be less likely to cause trouble for the mine. He drags her to the wedding reception where the guests just love her and the two of them end up sharing a dance and kiss and decide that it's probably best to just give into the sexual tension between them (all the while she's totally freaking out because she's self conscious about the fact that still a virgin at her age, especially with the rep she has for scaring men away with her personality). But things don't really go according to plan...
Also both of them have some things about their pasts that have caused them to be the guarded, strong willed individuals they are.
Parts of the book made me laugh (she turns into a nymphomaniac after losing her virginity to him) but the actual romance of the story seemed lost. It was pretty rushed and I didn't really feel a connection between the two characters. They have a night together and she's suddenly in love but he's decided to back off after they have misunderstanding and suddenly after being apart for 2 months he's had an epiphany about how he loves her and has to be with her. Maybe it's the fact the book was pretty short- the actual story being a little over 150 pages.

Disappointing. I have enjoyed a lot of this author’s books but not this one.
I just could not engage with the heroine. Eva is a boring pain in the backside and her story never took off as far as I was concerned. There’s a huge difference between strong, feisty female characters and ones like Eva who are simply, rude, badly behaved, egotistical and a total tun off.
OK so call me a glutton for punishment, but I'm still looking for that easy, slightly old fashioned, flowery romance book, just to fill in with a bit of easy reading between some of the 'in your face' highly sexed up books that seem to find their way onto my shelf ☺.
Sadly this wasn't it again. This book is better than the last Harlequin book I read a couple of days ago but it still is pretty blah and this could easily fall into the catagory of a DNF kinda book. I did finish it though.
Characters seemed very 1 dimensional. Another way to sum it up is think of a vein running through your body and then think of the little capillaries that are fed by your veins. This story starts off traveling along the vein and then goes off numerous times into capilleries before jolting back to the vein and continuing the direct path. I hate that in books, I don't want waffle and when a conversation happens I don't want to be reading it still 4 pages later when it could have taken half a page..........
Sorry but I'll have to keep searching, all I can say to Harlequin is, I can understand why a lot of people avoid books under their publishing like the plague - sorry - harsh - but it's how I feel.
I have read many other books by Susan Stephens and really enjoyed the great majority of them. This one, I found very disjointed and a little perplexing. There was reference to the hero and heroine having had some sort of altercation at the heroine's sister's wedding? The heroine shutting the door on his face or something? I'm not sure what caused that. Did I miss a huge hunk of pages or was this simply a reference to something that the reader was supposed to follow? Was I simply too tired when I read it, because I found myself turning back pages, trying to find references to things, wondering what the hell was happening and why quite a few times. It's just left me shaking my head. Because I've like this author, it hasn't put me off her work entirely, but if I get another one like this it will be the last purchase. If I'm wrong, my apologies and can someone set me straight with a page number?

"Stephens' beautifully penned romance is a wonderful contrast of stark and luxurious in culture and landscape. Her stars are perfect yin to yang, and their love scenes heat the tundra". (RT Book Reviews) rated 4 1/2 stars
