We are back in North Yorkshire and Embthwaite Farm and this time is it Harriet’s turn to find love and happiness, I felt for Harriet in the first book and I am hoping that she will find the man of her dreams and let her heart fly.

Now that Rachel is home and helping look after their father it is time to put the past behind and look to the future that is not easy for Harriet who is trying hard to start her small business Embthwaite Treats get off the ground, not easy when she feels insecure and has not a lot of confidence. So it takes a lot for Harriet to cook up some samples of her Christmas cookies and arrive at the manor house being renovated by the mystery millionaire to see if they would be interested in buying her treats. Her first visit does not go well but at least she got there.

Quinn Taylor has put everything into the renovations of the manor house he is making a big change in his life after all that happened after selling his gaming company, but he is thrilled to see the lovely lady he danced with not long ago, and decides that her cookies are yummy, he arrives at the farm and soon Harriet is lifting his confidence and friendship is growing.

This is a beautiful story, Harriet and Quinn are so similar in so many ways and they give each other strength and purpose, they are so good for each other and their hearts are opening up, but there are a few hurdles to overcome if they are going to get their HEA.

This is one that I do highly recommend, wonderful characters, a lovely Christmas setting, it is sure to bring a smile to any romance reader.

My thanks to Tule Publishing for my digital copy to read and review.

This second book concerns Harriet Mowbray, Rachels' younger sister, the sister that never left the farm.

Harriet's mother left Embthwaite Farm when Harriet was just seventeen. The shock and hurt led her to make a hash of her exams and so she never got to go to university or leave Embthwaite like her older sister.

Following their father's diagnosis of a terminal brain tumour, Rachel and Harriet have had something of a rapprochement, although Harriet still feels like the loser with no qualifications. Their father, a typical taciturn Yorkshireman, has never been affectionate but he seems to actively dislike Harriet and she has no idea why. She is attempting to set up her own bread/ cakes /scones /cookies business but it has been hard going. Her latest idea is to approach the mysterious millionaire who has bought the nearby derelict manor house and is restoring it into a hotel and ask if he wants to place an order some of her cookies.

Quinn Tyler was a gaming entrepreneur on the brink of selling his business for millions of dollars until he hit the self-destruct button (yet again) and wiped half the value off his shares. Now he's left California and invested in an ideal of a country house hotel. He's keeping a low profile because he really doesn't want the YouTube footage of his meltdown following him to Yorkshire or affecting the hotel launch. Quinn comes from a traditionally wealthy family, the sort that play tennis and polo and drift round the world on their yachts. Quinn has never conformed to their ideals, being dyslexic and nerdy, interested in computer games and comics rather than designer watches and banking.

Little do they know, but Quinn and Harriet have already met at the ceilidh where they briefly danced together. When they meet again its an instant attraction, but can these two lost souls, both desperately seeking recognition/love from their fathers, overcome their insecurities?

I liked this much better than the first one. Ben still seems to be a bit of a mansplainer in this book but I can at least see that his comments are coming from a place of love. Quinn is just adorable (I might even say adorbs) and Harriet has some much stuff to deal with but she keeps going.

It will be interesting where the third book goes.

I received an ARC from the publisher Tule for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

Harriet and Quinn are such fabulous characters in the second book in Kate’s The Mowbray Sisters series. Harriett has always felt like a loser compared to her sister. Harriett never went to college and she stayed with her dad who had a real dislike of her. Quinn is also desperate to find love and acceptance with his father. These two are so complex, I absolutely adored their friendship turned love story.

Set in snowy North Yorkshire, this is the 2nd book in a series about the Mowbray sisters, Rachel and Harriet, and the family farm where they grew up. They were raised by a gruff & taciturn father after their mother left them when they were young. They were only 15 months apart in age and very close until Rachel left to go to college and Harriet felt like she was left alone to help their father with the farm. So there was resentment and some uncomfortable family dynamics along the way.

When their father is diagnosed with a terminal illness, Rachel comes back to help and the sisters begin to try to work through their issues. Harriet has turned to baking as an escape, and begins selling her wares. When an old manor house is purchased and renovated by a mysterious stranger, Harriet gets an order for baked goods for the Christmas grand opening. She also gets involved with decorating and helping the new owner put the final touches on the new hotel. The owner, Quinn, has his own insecurities and as he and Harriet work together on the hotel, they also help each other to become more confident and able to deal with the issues in their lives.

The friendship between Harriet and Quinn develops into a romance with some bumps along the way! There are also surprises and plenty of snow and Christmas cheer!

I highly recommended this book as well as the first one in the series! Kate Hewitt is one of my favorite authors and she has written several great multi-generational series. This new series will not disappoint!

I received an ARC from Tule Publishing in return for my honest review of this book.

Tonic for Alpha Billionaire Romance Glut

If you read much in the current contemporary romance sub-genre, you'll notice it is overrun with stories about alpha males and billionaires. While I sometimes enjoy these stories, I'll admit freely that my favorite type of romantic hero is more of a beta than an alpha. Similarly, heroines in these stories seem to always need to be bad-a$$es to be deemed worthy of the moniker contemporary romantic heroine. But not everyone acts from strength or even has a strong sense of self-worth, and even those who are more meek and unsure of themselves are as deserving of love as the alphas and the kick-butts. This sweet little story is an homage to beta heroes and heroines everywhere and the sweetest type of romance telegraphed in subtle touches and looks, full of unsureness in the nascent moments of a budding potential romance. I found myself utterly charmed by this story. Both the hero and heroine are misunderstood people who beat themselves up quite a bit for their past transgressions and potential future ones! Both second-guess themselves constantly, both in who they are and how they present to each other, each wondering when the other shoe will drop and the other person will see through to the person they fear they are and then reject them for it. The author did an excellent job truly showing how both these people—the millionaire hero (who’s losing money rapidly on his dream of renovating a manor house hotel) appearing more secure on the outside, while the heroine certainly is not—had been cowed by past and present circumstances that made them very uncertain about their blooming feelings towards each other. Watching them both wrestle with insecurity, the mini ups and downs of false suppositions and tiny misunderstandings, was sweet. With the alternating perspectives, the reader is privy to the growing emotions and affection on each side, so it was particularly charming to watch them act and react out of fear often; hope for the relationship and perhaps a future together gradually and believably emerges. Despite their differences, they are truly simpatico souls who find someone who accepts them and appreciates them for who they are. Awww. As a former San Francisco Bay Area resident, the only thing I didn't like about the book was the constant put-downs of San Francisco. Like any city, it has its drawbacks—but also its wonderful unique aspects—but it was drawn with far too broad a brush in the hero’s remembrances of it. However, this is a charming story and so appropriate for this festive season.

I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Tule Publishing via BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An entertaining, adorable story featuring refreshingly different, layered characters, “Christmas at Embthwaite Farm”, by Kate Hewitt, is about old hurts and pain, unsolved family secrets and scars and finally finding someone that brings the best in you.
Quinn and Harriet are amazing characters, quite different from one another but with things in common, too; they complement each other in a smooth, surprising way.
The hero steals the show with his larger than life nerd personality and all the things in which he excells while also being a clumsy person: the ineptitude to read social clues, abandoning projects just when they’re sucessful with the compulsion to self-sabotage, and yet a natural tendency to innovate.
I loved his geeky mind and posture, the passion he puts in his projects and his energy and “joie de vivre”. Watching him fall head over heels for the sweet, shy, a bit insecure baker going through family trauma, was such a wonderful journey.
The impulsivity and earnestness make him such a genuine, attractive hero. The way the author wrote Quinn’s issues and recent life events is interesting, revealing things in a very open way, like Quinn himself, but also making him intriguing and delaying almost until the end telling Harriet about the major personal “disaster”.
I liked seeing Harriet slowly conquer her fears, insecurities and inadequacy, despite the dramatic family situation, with the help of the unfiltered, enthusiastic hero who awakes such positive sensations and feelings in her.
The interaction between Quinn and Harriet is playful and amusing, at least with the hero’s contribution, and brings the heroine out of her shell.
How wonderful that together both conquer their challenges and fears.
I liked the secondary characters even when not liking them as people very much – Perry, Rachel, Harriet’s father – the setting and how the family drama played out.

Harriet Mowbray lives at Embthwaite Farm with her father. She’s trying to start up at small bakery business. Her father is suddenly facing a terminal illness, and her older sister Rachel has returned home after years away to help with is care. Rachel is a born leader, and she doesn’t quite understand Harriet’s doubts and hesitancy in most matters. However, Harriet is a good an caring daughter, even if her father doesn’t think so.

Quinn Taylor has a past he’s not proud of, but it’s one that made him quite wealthy. He’s closed a door on one chapter of his life and has now moved to Mathering Manor to turn it into a hotel. While he seems confident in all he does, he’s often battling his lack of self-worth. Can he really make a go of the hotel? Will he fit into a small town?

It all started with a dance; although, neither realized it at the time. But when their paths cross again, something draws Harriet and Quinn together. Can they make their way through the secrets and lies that surround them? Can they come to terms with how each of their father’s has continuously shown disappointment and disregard for each of them?

This is a story of family and friendship and finding true love and acceptance.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher. I thank them for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

This is book two in The Mowbray Sisters series and it is Harriet and Quinn’s story. Harriet is trying to get a small business called Embthwaite Treats of the ground but with Harriet being shy and lacking confidence doesn’t help so it takes a lot to make some Christmas Cookies and take them up to the Manor House to see if they would be interested in buying them but sometimes things don’t always go as planned. Quinn has sold his gaming company, bought the Manor House and is now renovating it so imagine his surprise when Harriet shows up on his doorstep selling her cookies and Quinn realised that he would love to get to see her again and get know her. When Harriet and Quinn meet again and the more time that they spend together a friendship is formed and they help each other in so many ways but decisions will have to be made and even though there attraction to each other is strong and they are both alike in many ways you will find yourself hoping that they can both come out of there shell and realise that they can have happiness and a future together that they both deserve. This was a beautiful and heartwarming Christmas Story full of hope, joy and love along with a sprinkle of magic that will have you turning the pages to see what the outcome will be for them in the end. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

Kate Hewitt is a masterful storyteller whose writing spans multiple genres – from historical fiction to complicated relationship dramas to Hallmark worthy, feel-good stories.

Christmas at Embthwaite Farm is the perfect light read for the Christmas season. Grab a cup of hot chocolate, light the fire, and cozy up for a yuletide tale.

Set in a cozy town, you can feel the slow pace and charm of the town and the people. When a mysterious, rich developer moves to town to convert an old mansion into an inn, it causes quite a stir.

Harriet, a quiet, devoted daughter who's trying to develop a humble baking business, gets caught up in the intrigue.

While much of the book is fairly predictable, there’s enough depth to the characters to make them multidimensional, and the familial complexity, such as Harriet’s strained relationship with her father, builds tension throughout the story.

The book is a part of a sequel, but it reads well as a stand alone. The ending is satisfying while seemingly open for a continuation of the story. There's enough plot and character development to engage the reader in further developments in Embthwaite.

Overall, it is a lovely read for the holiday season.

CHRISTMAS AT EMBTHWAITHE FARM continues the story of Rachel and Harriet Mowbray as they care for their father in a rural Yorkshire farm after he’s received a terminal diagnosis. Rachel has been absent for many years working in London and Harriet’s relationship with her father is strained because he has always preferred Rachel and treated Harriet coldly—we learn more about why that is in this book. Harriet has a romance with the new owner of a hotel close to the farm—Quinn Tyler, a millionaire and former gaming programmer who made some rash decisions that cost him everything back in California. Harriet is also trying to get her baking business off the ground and running.

I really enjoyed seeing more of Rachel and Harriet, especially seeing more of Harriet’s perspective this time around. I was very interested in her character in book one as she is the one who stayed on the farm, and the one who was so mistreated by their father. As we learn more about why, you can only pity Harriet more. The end of the book teases that there will be a book three, and given which character will be featured, we can only assume this storyline will come up again. I’m excited! 5/5 stars.

The dysfunctional Mowbray Family became dear to me with the first book in the series. This second book was one I had been eager to read. While the first book introduce the sisters it was mostly about older overachiever Rachel. However, younger sister the prickly Harriet gets her story in Christmas at Embthwaite Farm.

Harriet began to make some personal growth in the first book but she is out of her comfort zone from the very beginning of this story. Quinn Tyler may come from wealth, but he is much the same as Harriet in that he is a lost soul who has always felt like the family misfit. These two are attracted but for this relationship to be a success growth on both parts is needed. What a pleasure to read of their story.

No one does family or individual drama better than Kate Hewitt. She has written a heartfelt addictive series that will be sure to please readers everywhere. Recommend Christmas at Embthwaite Farm to all women’s fiction readers.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Perhaps if I read the first in this series I would not have found Harriet's family dynamic so irksome. Harriet has very low self worth and fears being rejected. In an effort to promote her bakery business Harriet finds herself bringing her cookies to the Mathering Manor House Motel slated to open for Christmas. Quinn is the mysterious Millionaire buyer of the hotel and he is intrigued by Harriet and her cookies. With character flaws of his one (mainly self-destructive behavior) these two flawed people work through their issues and fall in love. I look forward to reading Harriet and Rachel's mothers story in the next book. I didn't particularly like her behavior towards her daughters and husband but maybe reading her story will change that. Although set in modern times with modern days problems this read like a nostalgic, classic British novel and I recommend enjoying your time in the rolling moors of North Yorkshire. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I found Christmas at Embthwaite Farm a good read , it is set in Yorkshire in UK , a place I love and I feel the author Kate Hewitt has written a sensitive novel and created interesting characters , I have not read the earlier book in the series and did not feel that stopped my enjoyment of the novel. The two main characters Quinn and Harriet are from totally different backgrounds but when they meet they feel comfortable in each others company , able to be themselves. As the author unpacks the layers which have influenced the couple over many years , the reader is introduced to more characters who reveal some of the secrets which have been kept hidden for a long time. The book has a warm rural country feel, Quinn and Harriet are both busy with new ventures while trying to sort out family complexities.
Anyone who enjoys a rural romance will find this a worthwhile read and I thank the author for an ARC copy to read and review through Tule Publishing and Bookfunnel

It was just lovely to return to Embthwaite Farm for Harriet’s story. She’s the sister who never left home to pursue a career, instead staying to look after a father who clearly doesn’t like her. I was just thrilled when Harriet’s delicious Christmas biscuit selection waas sucha hit at the about-to-open Mothering Manor House Hotel. It I loved that Harriet, with her low self-image, got such a win. That she and the hotel’s new owner, hunky but equally self-doubting multi-millionaire Quinn Taylor hit it off was another win. These two are a gorgeous couple. I loved Quinn’s “useless” days with the sense of fun they injected into what could otherwise have been a very emotional read. Mind you, there’s emotion aplenty as Harriet and Quinn overcome their internal conflicts. The plot moves along aat a clipping pace and had me hooked throughout. The imagery is fabulous, the characters are so easy to like and the story is just lovely. A perfect story to curl up with!

A heartfelt romance/family drama

This book is a sweet romance between Harriet, a small-town girl, and Quinn, the new man in town who is turning an old manor house into a hotel. Both characters seemed to lack a bit of self esteem because of how they were raised, but together, they brought out the best in each other and are able to overcome what was holding them back. I also liked the family drama in the book. The book is well written with interesting characters and a great story line. I couldn’t wait to see how this book played out in the end. I am already anxiously waiting for the next book.

Having recieved this as an ARC copy and having not read any of Kate's previous books I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Both of the characters seem to be hiding their true selves afraid of how they'll be seen, but together they bring the best of themselves. Quinn is very good at self sabotage with giving up just as he finishes a project. Harriet wants to embrace her future but with the relationship with her family she constantly let's her insecurities take hold. Can thes two help each other personally and romantically. I enjoyed this so much and will certainly be reading more of Kate's books. This is my own honest opinion and review of the book

Harriet always felt like the black sheep of the family when it came to her father's love. She never left her small country town, and didn't have a lot of faith or confidence in herself. She would like to start her own cookie business, but her lack of confidence and her curmudgeon of a father get in the way. She meets a handsome hotelier who moves to her small town to create a boutique hotel out of an old country manor, and he falls in love with her cookies...and then Harriet herself! The overarching theme of this cozy Christmas romance is hope, and I fell in love with these two hopeful dreamers! You'll really enjoy reading this book!

I was gifted an ebook from the author’s publisher for an honest review. She’s a new author to me so I had no idea this was the second book in the series. I found it to be an overall good book but it definitely dragged at times. I was also disappointed because I was expecting a Christmas book and it really wasn’t. Perhaps if I had read the first book in the series, it would have been more cohesive. Thanks for the opportunity!

Christmas at Embthwaite Farm - I had a very difficult time trying to read this book. I do not tolerate book characters with low self-esteem very well, and to have two so negative and continously mentally going about their deficiencies was too bothersome for me. My expectations were a Christmas romance filled with joy and positive vibes. That negativity I can find in other reads where I know it's part of the story lines and character traits. Pretty cover. A charming and enchanting story for Christmas or anytime. The relationship that blooms between Harriet and Quinn is based on similar experiences with their fathers: Harriet’s father treated her with a strong dislike and Quinn’s father repeatedly told him he was useless. Both Harriet and Quinn see something special in each other that rises above the past hurts and reaches to a brighter future.

This is such a sweet Christmas read and a wonderful addition to this series. Quinn and Harriet come from different cultures but when they meet they seem to understand each other. I enjoyed this sweet and sometimes heartbreaking tale of Harriet & Quinn. I didn't realize it was the 2nd book in a series, but I feel it can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed how both Harriet and Quinn wanted to make themselves stronger and better and how they were going to achieve that goal. Although there is an upcoming 3rd book in this series, I felt that this particular story ended to soon and I found myself frustrated with the ending.
