Forced to pick up her demanding boss at two a.m. in the midst of a storm, Holly Abrams quit her job. Not one to deal with being inconvenienced, Stephen Ballinger refuses to accept.
Forced to be alone together at Stephen’s home to ride out a tropical storm, their relationship turns from a working one to a passionate one. Holly has always wanted her sexy boss and the weekend is better than all of her fantasies. Stephen would do anything to make her stay, but is he using seduction to keep his world organized or is this hard-working CEO ready to put some serious work in to a relationship?
Samantha Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller of contemporary romance that’s hotter than sweet, sweeter than hot. She released her debut novel in 2011 and currently has more than seventy titles under her belt – including THE CHRISTMAS COTTAGE which was a Hallmark Christmas movie in 2017! She’s a Disney enthusiast who still happily listens to 80’s rock. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading romances, playing way too many games of Solitaire on Facebook, wearing a tiara while playing with her sassy pug Maylene…oh, and spending time with her husband of 30 years and their two sons in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
He looked nervously at her as if he were handing her a hand grenade rather than pajamas.
My Review:
Stephen lived and breathed his business, which he had build up from nothing, and had no plans to ever pursue a serious relationship as his father had been a largely absent workaholic. He had never noticed his beautiful assistant for anything other than a valuable employee until his supposed best friend made crude and suggestive remarks about her. This was a quick read with a storyline that was entertaining, a little steamy, sweet, and easy to follow.
I rarely enjoy novellas because too often there is not enough time to develop the plot, but not with In the Eye of the Storm.
Stephen and Holly were likeable and their story felt real. Holly had worked for Stephen, her boss, for three years. He was at a bar with his two close friends on the night of a nasty storm. The guys get into a fight and Stephen calls Holly to come and pick him up at 2 am in the morning. Needless-to-say, she is not happy. Assistant or not, she has a life.
What was once a working relationship only, develops into something else. Maybe everything made sense because they had already known each other for several years. There is a misunderstanding but it is not overlong and the person who caused it not only feels Stephen's wrath but also Holly's.
At 186 pages the romance was short, but sweet and it even included an epilogue!
In the Eye of the Storm by Samantha chase was a sexy, romantic novella that I devoured! From the characters to the storyline I LOVED this novella!
The chemistry between Holly and Stephen was intense. I'm such a huge fan of office romances. And In The Eye of The Storm we get one told in pure Samantha Chase style that you'll devour!!
*I voluntarily read a copy from the author. This is my honest review.*
So loved this novel. Holly and Stephen were total opposite when it came to what they wanted out of life. Holly works for Shephen as is personal assistant and she is always there when he needs her help 24/7. Shephen calls Holly one night to come pick him up from a bar in the middle of a storm, she picks him up and lays into him. Stephen comes to realize Holly was right, asks her to stay since it doesn't look like the rain was gonna let up bit Holly leaves to only find herself on his door step not able to get out of his subdivision. They spend time getting to know one another personally, but they couldnt denied what they were feeling. This store has a the feels and I could help but get sucked in.. Samantha Chase is an awesome and talented author.
Stephen is a little to slow for Holly's patience at times, “what took you so long?” she said as she grabbed his tie and pulled him into the house." Stephen could be an animal when he wanted to be, "Holly had no idea Stephen could move that fast. She squealed with delight as they rolled around on the bed until he was on top of her, looking down into her face, his eyes piercing hers. “You will not be going to work for anyone,”he growled and gave her a heated kiss." I liked this book, I loved that Holly stood her ground.
Holly has been Stephen's PA for two years and has held her tongue about her lack of a social life and his wanting her to work 24/7. Having to go out in a storm at 2am to get his drunk behind, she had enough. Stuck at his house to ride out the storm for the weekend quickly turns into romance as they each see each other in a new light. Stephen has to learn to separate work from pleasure if he wants Holly to stay with him.
Great character development and written in Chase's fun style with relatable situations that make for a fun read.
Steven needs the help of his assistant Holly in the middle of the night in the middle of a storm. Once they are safely at his house the storm keeps Holly from returning home and they are left together where sparks fly and passion ignites but once they are back in the real world, will their affair become a real relationship or will they go back to being boss and assistant? Great characters and a wonderful storyline.
I’ve read a lot of Samantha Chase books and found this one particularly frustrating due to the chaos caused by a periphery character who is quite one dimensional. I normally like the way she sets a scene but found those details missing in this book. Pleasant enough story but not one I’d read again.
I really enjoyed this story. In my opinion, her writing was different. Not in a bad way but I can tell how she’s grown. I definitely recommend this book.
Definitely one of Samantha Chase's earlier works. Her writing has matured significantly since then. I loved the story though, and Stephen's friends played a pivotal role in how the story played out. I liked Holly's character, but they both needed to just TALK and many of the problems would have been resolved earlier.
Samantha Chase has the ability to weave a romantic story with lots of conflict and emotional strife. In this book she does this with some co-workers who have real attitudes. With The Eye of the Storm we find Stephen Ballinger and his personal assistant as the love interest. Stephen is a workaholic who expects the same from Holly. The real conflict comes when Holly has to rescue her drunk boss from a bar in the wee hours of the morning during a tremendous storm. With roads closed, Holly is stranded with Stephen at his house. Tempers will flare. And we all know that love and hate are very similar emtions. The reader is easily pulled into this story.
I received an ARC for my honest review. Always love Samantha Chase's writing.
There wasn't a whole lot of meat to the story. Not much of a climax, and it was very easy to tell from the get-go where the story was headed. That combined with the sexual content to skip over just didn't make it worth the time to read it. I thought about putting it down several times, but kept reading hoping it would get better. It did get better towards the very end, but there are still a lot better books out there.
Are you looking for a wonderful romance to read? In the Eye of the Storm is definitely for you. Holly has secretly had a crush on her incredibly handsome, ever demanding boss. However, when he calls her at 2 A.M. to pick him up from a bar in the middle of a tropical storm… well, she has had enough, he has gone too far this time. Then the unthinkable happens, and she is stuck with him at his home for several days because of storm damage. Then, she learns why he was stranded at the bar at 2 in the morning. Let me just say this Derek is an a…. PG, PG. Let me put it this way, with Stephen having “friends” like Derek, who needs enemies? Derek is a TOTAL DOUCH!!! I loved watching these two fall in love, in SPITE of Derek the DOUCH. Ms. Chase will Stephen’s good friend ever have his story told?????? Please. This book was easy to read and very emotional for me. It totally has the aww factor, and well as the aggravation factor. That is one thing that I love about Ms. Chase’s books, I know that I will have hours and hours of reading enjoyment any time I pick up one of her books. O Thank you SC/KJB for my gift of this book. If you like to relax with a great romance read this book is certainly for you. So what are you waiting for, go hit that one click button and enjoy this book. Thank you for reading my review.
I really liked this story a lot. Holly has been Stephen’s assistant at his company for 3 years. She’s really been his right hand woman and necessary to his success. Stephen is a workaholic and a very successful businessman because of that he thinks. Doesn’t really fee he has been missing anything. Holly has been happily working by his side as many hours as he needs her too not really caring that she doesn’t have much of a life outside of work because she likes what she does.Until one stormy night/weekend when all of that changes. One very hot, sexy, sweet and steamy weekend! Their chemistry in the bedroom or any other room for that matter is as on point as their work chemistry always has been. Will their weekend tryst ruin their working relationship? Can they really go back to just a boss/assistant relationship after all they shared? Will they realize before it’s too late that the storm that brought them together finally started a storm brewing in their hearts and is a once in a lifetime love neither should deny?
Samantha Chase has done it yet again. There is not one story from her that I have not fallen in love with. Samantha has an incredible gift in her ability to grab the reader from the first page. Her words paint such a beautiful picture in our mind, it makes the reader feel like they are a part of the story, that they are intimately involved with the characters. Her words so genuine and heartfelt, you feel the emotions the characters feel.
In The Eye of the Storm we have the story of Holly and Stephen. Holly has been Stephen’s assistant for three years. In those years, neither of them have ever crossed the employer/employee line. They haven’t seen each other in those terms. After a fight with his friends that leaves Stephen stranded at 2am, he calls Holly for assistance. As always, she comes to his aid, only to be stranded at his house due to a terrible storm. Emotions are high, truths are told, and the chemistry is as powerful as the storm brewing outside. You seriously need to get a copy to see what happens next!
Stephen Ballinger has it all - his own successful company, women, gorgeous home, money & an assistant that can almost read his mind. He's never seen her in a bad mood until the night he called her for a ride home - at 2 am, in a storm, a major storm! Suddenly Stephen was seeing her in a different light. But did he want to risk losing the best assistant he's had?
Holly has had enough! Her boss is spoiled, egotistical & arrogant. He can't see what's right in front of him. He could have called a friend or a driver that night but of course he called Holly. So she's in sweats, without makeup, driving in a terrible thunderstorm at 2 am to pick him up & drive him home. Then she's stuck there!!
This was an interesting book to read. At first I was afraid that Holly was going to be a doormat but I loved it when she gave Stephen everything she had. She was done being a pushover. Stephen assumes Holly has no life other than to be at his beck & call. Good characters & a decent HEA.
From a workaholic, to a stormy weekend and a woman who was pushed to far, this story grabbed my attention immediately. It has the characters that are so relatable, the dialogue that keeps me engaged and the bit of angst that kept me turning page to page to see what would happen. The romance between the two is prevalent right away and apparently always was as the two friends and co-workers kept asking about it! I loved how both characters had dialogue that showed their internal thoughts and concerns throughout their journey. I did want to shake them both at times, but mainly because I just wanted to scream talk to him/her so that they could get on the same page! As with many SC stories there were some life lessons about being careful what you wish for and the importance of communication...and also taking time to look around you to see what and how life is going! Fun story and would love to see more of the two friends..especially Will!
Holly has worked for Stephen for 3 years. Working 14 hour days and most weekends to appease the man she has secretly had a huge crush on for most of the time in his employment. But a middle of the night demand to come and pick up his drunk self, in the middle of one of worst storms - pushes her over the edge.
The last thing Stephen wants to do is lose Holly. But he must make the decision on whether he wants to keep her as his right hand person at work OR explore whether there is something that he never thought of before - Love. I really loved these two together. They were so in sync and their banter and ease with each other, even in the awkward times was great.
In the Eye of the Storm is a fun read. Holly is pretty much a slave to her boss. Days, nights, weekends. But calling her out in a tropical storm to pick him up at a bar in the middle of the night is the last straw! So Holly decides to quit her job and take her boss, Stephen, home hopefully to drop him off and go home and back to sleep. The storm is raging outside, Holly tells her boss she's quitting. Stephen won't accept her quitting and he convinces her to stay in one of his guest rooms till morning. Well, one day turns into two and so on. A sweet love story from Samantha Chase. A cozy afternoon read. I really enjoyed it.
Holly has gone above and beyond in her office duties working for Stephen but when she has to pick him up at 2am it's the final straw. Stephen doesn't know quite what to think of spiting fire Holly. They gave in to temptation and things forever change. Stephen's work is all consuming. As with any relationship theirs has all kinds of twists and turns. I love Stephen's friend Will but his friend Derek is a butt. Though I was pleasantly surprised that he owned up to what he did at the end. Love the justification that both Stephen and Holly gave him for his meddling.
Great Story! Stephen is Holly's boss and a workaholic until one night when out having drinks with friends he gets into a fight and is abandoned at the bar, in need of a ride home. He call Holly to pick him up during a tropical storm. From there the fun begins! I loved it when Holly stood up for herself and put Stephen in his place! This couple was fun to get to know and the angst at times between them was perfect.
It drew me in from the start, with a kick butt heroine putting a bit of an alpha hero in his place, emerging from her normally quiet ways. I love how she seems to knock him on his butt, and he finally sees that she’s not just an assistant, but a beautiful strong woman.
There was a certain character I could’ve punched once or twice, but I think he was handled perfectly.
An oldie but a goodie.. having worked with her demanding boss for 3 years. She finally cracks after a 2am phone call from her drunk passed out at the bar boss.. a weekend trapped together by a storm. Can this demanding boss keep his number one at the office and convince her into stay in his heart??
n the Eye of the Storm begins with poor Holly having to drive through the beginning of a tropical storm to pick up her workaholic boss, Stephen in the middle of the night from a bar. She lets loose on him all her frustrations in regards to him and then is forced to ride out the tropical storm with him in his house. Things progress quickly as its a short read but its a great read.
In the Eye of the Storm I adored Holly and her spunk, she always jumps to Stephen commands, but he oversteps when he has her come out in a storm to pick him up in a bar. Holly gives herself quite the pep talk on her way to pick him up and once she has him in her car, she chews him out big time. Fate always steps in when you least expect it, as Holly and Stephen find out. Great story
A real treat and fabulous story. I loved this story and Samantha Chase!!! She's one of my all-time favorite authors. She never disappoints with character development and story lines. She always makes me feel as if I'm right there with the characters. I read her books over and over. You will not only love this book(s) but all of Samantha's books.
Read as part of: In the Eye of the Storm / Catering to the CEO by Samantha Chase April 2018
In the Eye of the Storm: Another easy breezy story for ya. It’s a work place romance with very little angst. Stephen and Holly were both characters you’d root for. If you’ve seen the movie Two Week Notice and liked it, then you’ll love this little gem. It runs along similar lines. Very heartfelt and fun.
Eye Of The Storm by Samantha Chase Workplace romance Forced proximity
This was pretty weird actually. Holly has worked for Stephen for two years and he never once really noticed her until she took off her glasses. Really?
The inner dialogue he has with himself about wanting to kiss her vs. wanting to keep her as his assistant is a little too much. Toeing the line of icky, really.
Holly and Stephen are forced to spend non-work time together, and Stephen is faced with the truth of his workaholic behavior. Boss/employee. An easy, fun read. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
