Seduced by Darkness

Rate this book
For eight hundred years Nicolas Montfaucon has dedicated his life to preventing the rebirth of an immortal evil. But now a terrible storm has assaulted unsuspecting New Orleans—and the beast walks the earth once more. "The Devourer" has been awakened, and there is only one in the besieged city who can help Nicolas defeat the foul creature—a mysterious and beautiful enigma who haunts the handsome Revenant's erotic waking dreams and enflames his passionate obsessions.

Chessa Tomas is not an ordinary policewoman. A vampire, she works only at night, patrolling a seamy and unseen underworld of roiling chaos. Though Nicolas is sensuality incarnate, Chessa wants no part of him or his kind—but she cannot close her eyes to the unholy malevolence that would consume their world. And Nicolas has uncovered the secret lust that rules her—a steaming, uncontrollable desire he intends to unleash, bending Chessa to his will by making her most forbidden fantasies real.

This book was basically porn. Porn for women, I should say. The storyline was pretty shallow and only there to support the sex scenes. And let me say, they were very good and diverse sex scenes, with hunky guys described in great detail having sex and/or making love with mostly average, everyday women (thus making it womens porn).

What there was of the storyline kept the porn coherent so this book could be called erotica. It is very well written erotica but expect more sex than love, more sex than story and you will really enjoy it!

This series is fantastic! THE BEST series from Delliah Devlin in my opinion. There are so many different creatures with so much potential.
In Devlin's "Dark Realm" all creatures are sexy and sensual! I wish she would write some more books on this series.

The title and summary a bit cringe-worthy, and sound like a cheesy dime-store romance novel. I was sucked in by the vampire storyline (ha ha), and a friend had lent and convinced me to also read the previous novel in this series. The first book is better than this one.

Despite the over the top love scenes, I found the vampire caste system intriguing. There are both born and made vampires in this book, and the ones born from another vampire rule over over the "revenants," or the ones who have "returned" (based on the French term) from the dead. I probably won't continue the series, but I did find Nicholas to be a very interesting guy.

If you go into this knowing what it is - erotica of the "porn without plot" variety - it's wonderful. I find Nic to be a much more developed character than Rene was in the first book, and watching him get his way ~cough~ with Chessa was wonderful.

The BDSM elements were great, as well.

If you're hung up on plot you'll be annoyed. If sex scenes make you squeamish look elsewhere. But if you can take the book for what it is you'll enjoy the ride.

First of all, the cover: Why is her neck so absurdly long?

Secondly, the sex: Plentiful. Very diverse, very adventurous.

Finally, the plot: It's not totally nonexistent, to be fair. There is a bigger picture and mythology here and there is some conflict and resolution. I would say 50% plot, 50% sex. And the plot is actually interesting enough that I wanted to know more and was left with questions. So that's usually a good sign.

I would recommend this book to someone in the mood for erotica who also really likes dark paranormal/urban fantasy. Like if you want to go a step sexier than Laurel K. Hamilton, here's your next series.

Sex with a bit of a story. There is a hierarchy & division between born & revenant (created) vampires. A dreadful being, The Devourer, is on the loose after a massive storm in New Orleans, & both police & underworld vampires are trying to catch & control it. It can suck the life from & take over anyone.

It has a very dark, paranormal plotline that would probably be make more sense if you read the series. Alternatively, if you just want the sex, predominantly BDSM, just go for it.

1.5 Sad, but I really only liked one character in this book. I liked the storyline, and with some development it would make for good reading. But, I hated the female lead. I also felt that the sex scenes were gratuitous for the most part.
