When all hope for moving on from a life filled with pain and abuse was gone, Emily Watson closed herself off to the world, packed her bags, and moved across the country in search of a new life. What she found was a career she adored and friends she loved. It wasn’t a full and complete life, but it was definitely better than what she knew before.

When all hope for being loved and accepted for who he was instead of what he had was gone, Taylor Carter decided that trusting people outside of his family wasn’t really smart and would only lead to disappointment. With his world turned upside down, his life became about his work, and every new relationship was meaningless and superficial. He was safe and definitely content but never truly happy.

When all hope for staying awake during a long day was gone, Emily and Taylor found themselves at the same coffee cart. Little did they know then that the worst coffee they’d ever had would forever change their lives.

When hopeless people are blinded by an endless pain, when contentment and safety feel like the best options, and when love seems impossible, they may just find an exception.

Exception

This was a book I almost passed over. A "love story" I am go grateful to author Patty Maximini that I didn't. As it is far more than just another sappy love story. It's an interesting, amazing, epic drama of love, hope and a collision of drastic and dyer situations that being the love out of Emily and get friends. And from Taylor the man she loves through thick and thin, as well or equally what he gives back to her in many kinds of ways. I Loved It!!! A must read, a must have book in your library. Get it this second or you will miss a story of a lifetime.

**** I received an ARC copy for an honest review ****

First I have to say this is the first book that I read from this author. and I have to say it is not what I was expecting, I like the book its a long book but it was good, I am gone keep this short cause I don't want to give anything away, this book is funny, charming, witty, the characters are unique, and you never know what's gone happened next.

Emily Watson life was filled with pain and abuse, and almost losing hope, that's when she decide to packed up and move across the country, that's when she found a career she love and made new friends, and started having hopes on her new life.

Taylor Carter oh what can I say about Taylor, he end up losing hope on being loved and accepted, for who he was instead, that's when he decide to stop trusting the people that was not his family, and decide to focused on his work.

That's when Emily and Taylor end up meeting on a coffee cart, and let me just say that the coffee tasted bad, but that did not matter from their they end up getting to know each other, what they where not expecting was for their life to turned up side down and change for ever.

I really enjoy and like this book and I hope that once you read it that you enjoy it and like as much as I did. THANK YOU Author Patty Maximini for introducing me to this great characters and this great book.

Exception was a good book. Really, it was. While the main characters, Emily and Taylor, were the focus of the story; I don’t feel like this book should be strictly classified as a romance. The bigger message that I got from this book was about friendship and healing. The writing is superb. The descriptions are rich and vivid and the entire cast of characters was likable and endearing. Everyone should be lucky enough to have their own Fruitcake and Cupcake as best friends.

My drawbacks to giving this book a higher rating was the length. This book is really long and sometimes the descriptions were too verbose. And I needed more angst and action. For the majority of the book, it’s a sweet story with a focus on friendship and moving forward. The last quarter of the book was the true romantic part of the story. Emily and Taylor spent the first 3 quarters of the book being best friends with an undeniable connection. It was cute how adamant both of them were to “just be friends” when it was so obvious to everyone around them that they were perfect for each other. Patty Maximini does an excellent job at telling a great story and I enjoyed reading it. It was sweet and touching. It was just a long read of sweet and touching. I think that a lot could be scaled back and the greatness wouldn’t be hindered in the slightest.

My stars: 4

This book is for those in love, those who have a broken heart and those who repaired them.

Emily left with a broken heart through bad times, but decided to move on. Taylor as a single but with a few major disappointments in life kid. Fate makes your bet and decides to join these two souls that are destined to appear etar together and make each one to grow as a person.

It is a very well written book, Emily certainly has a very strong emotional charge but gives us a valuable lesson either boys or girls, confronts your demons! using positive people, new places and people that make you feel good about what you’re worth. And that includes Taylor who like Emily but differently and grows as a character as something that starts with a change, a friendship and a time of self-exploration and search to believe in someone else, it converts into something more.

I think it’s a nice, true story and a lot of girls like to read, others will feel very identified with any of the characters, the writing is strong, but I feel that maybe some parts maybe need a lightening, historyflows well and gets to the point that the author wants to reach.

I enjoyed the book, I think it is one of those where you decide to leave the action side, you take some breaks, with tea, lots of cushions and your book in your hands.

First of all, this book is really long which is usually a good thing but not in this case. It is written in the third person which is pleasant change from the normal first person. However, the story was so drawn out that I almost gave up at one point. It was all very sweet. She is damaged, He has been hurt. They are best friends who fall in love but don't know it. Things don't really start happening until about 75% and by then I was screaming at my kindle and pulling at my hair because these two were driving me crazy. When things finally get going, I think the book is going to redeem itself with a nice plot twist which kept me interested until the epilogue. As I got to the end, I was ready for a neat and tidy HEA with all the loose ends tied but what I got was a predictable and sweet ending with unanswered questions. I think what pissed me off the most was being introduced to all these wonderful and vibrant characters then left wondering what happened to them. Did Emily and Taylor get everything they envisioned? What about Jody and Brad, do they ever get married? Zack and Toby? What about Poppy, Nate or Gabe? Lots of unanswered questions that could've been covered especially with how long this book was.

Exception was such a sweet tale about two people with troubling pasts. We follow them as they begin their friendship, try to dismiss and suppress their feelings, until the end as they fall in love and reach their happily ever after. It was truly a romantic journey about finding love in the oddest of places and finally finding their definition of home.

Ugh, Taylor Carter, can I just take you home?

"I'd give my life to make sure she laughs every single day, and goes to bed every night knowing how much better the world is because she's in it. She's the kind of woman who deserves everything, and I plan to do anything I can to assure she gets it."

I actually did manage to complete this book after an update at 10% where I was pretty bored with it. It was most definitely a slow burner and nothing actually happened apart from the initial meeting between Taylor and Emily and them both revealing how they had been hurt in the past and why they were scared to be involved with and get close to other people. It began to pick up at 75% and in the last quarter of the story is where everything happened. Both Taylor and Emily came across as young, she was particularly child-like even though during the story she is 27/28 and he is 30/31. I suppose I can see why she was like that in view of her childhood but their story really did feel like that of a late teen/early twenties romance. Despite persevering with the book and managing to finish it, it really wasn't a good book for me, far too long winded and it just didn't grip me in any way.

Wanna talk about a story that made you laugh and cry? Let's just say I have a new appreciation for cupcakes, cheesecake, fruitcakes and bad coffee....... This was a great story about friendship and how its strength can get you through just about anything! This was a long book, but I felt that the story didn't have a proper end ~ it needed an epilogue, I needed closure for everyone of the characters!

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I was quite fond of Exception. The characters are so real and easy to relate to. Exception covered the full spectrum of emotions; sadness, disgust, joy, love, and hatred. I shed real tears and was genuinely angry at certain characters. I fell in love with Taylor (who wouldn't), and "the twins".

From front to back this book kept me enthralled, and I will definitely read it again.

I was looking for a fresh and beautiful true romance, and Patty Maximini delivered. I'm tired of all the obscene e excessive sex centered modern romantic novels. This book has the right measure of sex but always focuses on love, and above all, showed me that good contemporary love stories still can be told. Very well written. I loved it!!!

What a sweet book. I liked it, and it kept me interested. It dragged in a few parts, but it enjoyed the details and the very slow build of their relationship. The romance stayed mostly clean. It want ronchy gross at all, which I appreciated. I would love to read about poppy and Nate:)

loooooooong

This was a very long book. I understand the relationship had to go slow, but this book detailed every moment in their days, every song gel conversation (even one’s they repeated to others), every little thought, no matter how inconsequential. It made the book very slow and long. I got through it only because it was background while I worked, as my Kindle read it to me

Ok, but could have been told in fewer words

While it was a decent storyline, with predictable outcome, it ran on too long. There were also a lot of grammatical errors that were distracting.

Move over ladies, Taylor Carter is mine! =D <3

WOW! Where do I even begin??? It's been a long, long, long time since I've read a book that has enraptured me as deeply as this one has. I can't stop thinking about it. I mean, literally, I can't. Every single character was so well developed. The friendships, the relationships, all of it was done amazingly well. There are very few books where I feel like I'm truly apart of the book, living in the story, and hanging out right next to the characters, and this was one of them.

While I don't want to give out spoilers, because I truly feel the book will be so much more enjoyable if you just experience it for yourself, I will say that it brought out every emotion, and deeply, and I think that's one of the biggest reasons the impact I feel this book had on me was so great. It touched me, and not just the story, but the characters. The love that slowly forms between Emily and Taylor is a beautiful thing to witness. I fell hard for Taylor and fast, and next to him, it's going to be tough for another fictional boyfriend to ever compare. Ladies, if you want an excellent read, one that will demand to be revisited, and one that will capture you from beginning to end and even after, read this.

I really wish I could say I love this book, 1st, it was long, they nothing wrong with that, but when the characters are going around in circles with the story line, it got boring. There were times I thought I was reading a teen book then adults..The book itself had a good enough plot, but alone the way, Ms. Maximini, drag the characters storylines..It took me a while reading this book, I didn't want to gave up on it and I was so happy when I finished reading it..We I recommend this book to my friends, NO

I can't pinpoint what irritated me most about this... Soooo slow, so saccharine, so repetitious, and just written in a way that read like a cross between a HS girl's diary and a Twilight installment (is that redundant?) The endless patience even irked me. She's gorgeous, he's perfect, that megawatt smile he flashed constantly. I dunno, the PTSD should've counteracted all the sweetness but it didn't really. Couldn't relate to the sweetness, the perfection, the wealth, the selflessness, or the wallowing in the past... and though I prefer long books, this was twice as long as it needed to be.

I really enjoyed this book, It was a very long read by todays standards and every aspect of the story was extremely detailed. The secondary's were just as good as the two main characters and they really helped carry the storyline. Will definitely read more from this author.
