I absolutely adore these sorts of books. This is a book that tells the stories of Lucy and Desi, and their marriage and lives after their marriage, through images from their own scrapbooks. Included are little pockets which have very believable facsimiles of letters to and from Lucy and Desi, telegrams, marriage licenses and news stories.
This isn't the kind of book you go to for a deep down, nitty gritty details about the lives of whoever's being discussed. It's very glossy, very "up," very nice reading. Even their divorce, which was devastating for both of them, is handled in a very "I was sad but I understood" kind of way.
The reason for reading the Lucy & Desi Scrapbook is for the pictures. Most of them have not been published elsewhere (or, at least, hadn't been prior to the release of this book) and the little documents make it a truly indispensable addition to any fan's library. I've loved Lucy since I was so little that I didn't know she wasn't a black and white person in real life, and I've loved Desi almost as long, so I'll be treasuring this for many years to come.
This year in my LA class we had to write a report about someone and try to elect them into the 20th century american hall of fame. And i chose Lucille Ball. Well to get the info i needed i checked out this book. Its a copy of one of her hundred scrape books that she and Desi made. It was really interesting. I know that my whole family ( yes even hanna and tyra) like reading it.
This is a replica of one of many scrapbooks that Lucille Ball kept. It's so much fun to go through and look at the different components. Actual replicas such as photos, cards, passports, letters, newspaper articles, journal entries, etc.. I stumbled into this one day at the library. Very unique and fun!
