I don’t go for bad boys, or rockers.
And I don’t believe in love at first sight.
Until I see Beckett.
And things only get worse when I hear him sing.
There is no one like him.
The problem is that he wants nothing to do with me.
And I know I should stay away from him.
It’s the smart thing to do.
Only when it comes to Beckett I don’t want to do the smart thing. He makes me want to take a risk.
I just hope he decides to take a risk on me too.

Holy wow, I loved this book.

It hopped right up there in my Top 10 for the whole year.
I love a book where the guy is a little bit gruff but then turns into a pile of mush over a girl. This book has all my favorite things.

Beckett, Beckett, Beckett Nash... There was a couple things that had me cringing over him, but boy when he decided to turn over his leaf and be with Star, he was all in. At the 'catalyst', I wondered how Mrs. Garza was going to turn that around. She shocked me with how that played out. I was expecting it to be very dramaful. (New word) and I dreaded it to be honest, but she completely saved my heart and it all played out perfectly.

I love sweet books. So much. I wish more authors wrote them for they are hard to find.

6 out of 5 stars from me!

Star left home to strike out on her own. Homeschooled up until high school, she has always yearned to be on her own. She starts college and is just learning what she wants and setting the parameters for her life. She has had two guys in her life. One she dated until he wanted to move things too quickly and one she went out with for a while, up until he cheated because she wouldn’t sleep with him.

Beckett is the lead singer for the rock group Beckett. (he obviously has no self- esteem issues). He is a self admitted player. Hooks up after almost every show and has no interest in the previous evening’s entertainment come the next morning.

Star is talked into doing a little open mic thing at a bar one night by her best friend Lola. Ryker, one of the guys in Beckett’s hears her and tells her they are looking for a back up singer. She is reluctant to accept his offer to try out for the band. She sees Beckett perform and can’t get the lead singer out of her mind. She ends up going to Beckett’s parents’ garage and auditioning for the band (you read that right –they are a stereotypical group practicing in his parents’ garage). Beckett lives with his older brother Tate who has had his share of battling substance abuse. He is adamant about keeping Star out of the band. She reminds him of Quinn, a subject he never discusses but the one person who seems to be the reason for all choices he has made over the last few years.

Eventually, Beckett lets Star in the band and as time goes on, he lets her into all the parts of his life. She knows there is a reason he has closed himself off from his family, from commitments from feeling. Something to do with Quinn and his nemesis Dante, a singer from a band called Cold Fever. Will Star be able to get Beckett to crack that wall of ice he has encased around his heart?

“I’m sorry about that, I say. Star just waves away my words. “I knew what I was getting into when we started dating. It’s not your fault.”

Beckett vows to be a better man. Someone that is worthy of Star. Every artist dreams of the moment they will be discovered, that moment when all their hard work will pay off.

“You were so worried about me getting in the way of your dream, but you didn’t need to be.”

This story has just the amount of angst; enough to make your stomach drop but not enough to make you throw your e-reader across the room. In addition to Beckett and Star, the secondary characters, Ryker and Lola are worthy of a book of their own, there is quite the story with those two. This is a nice, easy read, perfect with a cup of tea and a favorite chair.

Star Struck. Amber Garza.

Arc supplied by Netgalley.
Like lots of romance readers I've a weakness for bad boy rock stories. So of course I had to jump straight in to this one :) and Beckett is just the stereotype we've come to know and love (eventually). Music is his life, tattooed, full of problems, good-looking and with a different girl every night. Star is a complete contrast, she loves her music, but as her parents wish its secondary to her studies. Where Beckett is the bad boy, Star is the good girl. She hasn't been in a relationship since her fiancée cheated on her because she wouldn't have sex, he used that age old excuse “men have needs...” but she sent him on his way to see to them elsewhere. It left her feeling upset, angry and knocked her confidence though. Luckily she has a best friend to stop her getting totally depressed, and one night she drags star out to a local coffee house where they see band Beckett playing. One glance at Beckett though, and she's hooked...her Bestie's new boyfriend is in the band and he arranges for Star to audition. It goes perfectly but Beckett is an ar*se – normal behaviour for him – and things don't work out. Turns out he's that way because Star reminds him of someone, but after some tense meetings Star finally gets in the band. There's an attraction between the two that sizzles and steams, and though Star would love nothing more Beckett is adamant that they can't be together. Still, he seems to sway one way then another, being mister nice one moment and letting her hope they'll have something, then being an ar*se once again...There's secrets to be revealed, hugs and laughter, heartbreak and tears over the following weeks.
Its a great story, with some puzzles I hadn't worked out, and the needed mix of emotions. Though it focusses mainly on Star and Beckett we meet other band members, Stars best friend, and the families of both of them. That’s good as we see another side to each of them this way, and when they are back together their intensity seems all the hotter for having contrast with interactions with others.
I loved the epilogue too – short, but tied up the ending neatly. I do like these, where they just provide an addendum to the ending and don't take up huge swathes of the novel.
Great read, priced at £1.91 for 309 pages/375kb its excellent value.
Stars: four and a half. If the sad part had lasted a bit longer, and given more angst and emotion I’d have gone five. Though that part was good, it was over very soon and I just like to really get down in the depths of sorrow, it makes the uplift that follows so much higher.

I really enjoyed this book. It was different then your normal rock star books. The emotions were real and almost had me to tears at one point.

Star is a beautiful sweet girl who wears her heart on her sleeve and shows her emotions even if she doesn’t mean to. She loves music and has a beautiful voice. After moving to Seattle to go to college with her best friend they end up at a open mic. Her friend talks her into performing. Star is nervous as can be but gets up there and does it. After performing someone comes up to her and offers her a part in a band he plays in. Star is not sure but thinks about it.

Star decides to give the band a shot. She shows up at a garage and the lead singer Beckett who is hot as sin with a great voice decides he doesn’t want her in the band. He believes she looks like someone who brings painful memories back. She leaves devastated. Eventually Star ends up in the band where her and Beckett seem to go back and forth with being friends and being short with each other.

Finally Beckett gets over his demons to try and give a relationship a shot with Star. He is use to using women and tossing them to the side. He worries about making it in the music field and is scared Star might hold him back. But he gives it a shot anyways.

This book was great. It was a nice change to other rock star books. I loved Beckett with how sweet he turned out to be and how loving he could be. Star is a great girl. She is only 18 so any complaints I would think to try and make would be cancelled out by her age. This book was not to fast and definitely not slow. I feel like everything was perfect and I could picture everything that happened. I would recommend this book for sure.

I really enjoyed this book, the musical side of it; which the lyrics were awesome, and the romance side of it. I thoroughly enjoyed both main characters; Star who was a smart ass at times but very innocent, and Beckett who is so damaged that he refuses to let anybody in. They are very different so it was a good dynamic that they had music in common. I'm used to reading about the girl next door but I really love reading about a character like Beckett, he is so full of himself and is a womanizer (that's not why I like him lol) I like him because it's always a mystery under all that hard exterior. He was definitely hurt by this girl Quinn, and it takes almost the whole book to find out the real story because he was so tight lipped about it. I love how over protective Beckett was over Star, I thought that was so cute. I also love how she got him to open up.

The other characters were also great, Lola the protective best friend who was also a clean freak lol. That part really cracked me up, the way that Lola is so clean and that Star isn't. Then there's Ryker, the one that saw it all coming; he knew Star would be good with Beckett, she was the perfect person for him.

It was so funny how after a gig they played Beckett has his personal "fan club" as Star would call them. They would wait for him after he played to swoon over him and he loved it.

I know I won't do this book any justice with my review, I want to say so much but it's all a secret of the book so I can't ruin that. I recommend this book to contemporary lovers and music lovers. I read this book in one day, it was so good and I was immediately hooked until the end.

Wow! amazing read! so heartfelt and full of longing. I really enjoyed this book it speaks to the romantic in everyone I think. The storyline was tortuous and poetic, as only a story about musicians should be.

Star wa a great character full of life and innocence but at the same time fire and passion. Her singing comes to new highs and lows again and again. She is frustrated by Beckett and his constant back and forth signals but loves being in his presence, because she knows he has what it takes not only to win her heart but to be a star.

Beckett is the embodiment of the tortured artist. His character was great! He hasn't had the easiest life up until now and it shows in his songs. He constantly fights with himself about his feelings for music and his feelings for Star, forever beating himself up for even looking her way. I loved that we got to see a bit of his softer side and he quickly became my favourite character, but mostly I think because he reminded me so much of my husband who is a musician and is very moody as well.

Even though I loved the story I found that the other characters were put into the background a little and I would have liked to learn a little bit more about them. That being said I think that Amber Garza is a totally brilliant author and I would read any of her work anytime! if you haven't read this amazing work then I suggest you get your copy today!

I really thought beckett was the biggest jerk at first. He was so mean to Star., I mean she goes to try out for the band, all by request mind you and when she gets there and sings perfectly with him, their voices mingle perfectly together he acts like it was nothing. She's not what he's looking for so thanks but good by. Uh yeah I'd be a little upset too..

Star was sweet but she had some fight in her. She's been hurt and her self esteem is a little on the low side but she's not gonna let anyone push her around any more. She's not the same naive kid she was in high school but Beckett infuriates her and excites her at the same time. He's so wonderful one minute and the next he's pushing her away. Agh! I just wanted to punch his shoulder and tell him to stop being such a jerk and I'm not a violent person.

Once you read his story you understand why he is that way though. His heart has been broken by everyone close to him and he doesn't want to let anyone get that close to him again.

I personally think that Star and Beckett complimented each other but they definitely have their work cut out for them here. Beckett is not going to put aside his dreams of making it big like his dad did that easily. Can this relationship work out or will they both decide their future isn't together?

Read this totally exciting book and find out.

I really did not know what to rate this, teetering between 1 and 2 i've decided a solid 1.5!! - I had real problems with the protags... she acted too desperate and he was just an idiot! I mean they had potential if she didn't allow to push her away so much then come back for more - again, and again and again!! And him, I would have loved to see him grovel at some point - she gave into him too easily. Like how she so easily forgave him for leaving her and going to LA! I know that was his dream and all and why he didn't want to get involved with her in the first place but geez - let him sweat it out a little.
And don't get me started on the romance between - it was weird at most! She felt way too much for him, even when it's clear that he could just pick up and leave her at the drop of a hat!! But she was all " I wonder what Beckett's doing, I wonder who he's with"!! I screamed - yes screamed - at my Kindle, "get over it, he left you, that tells you how much he cares about you". I mean I get it, I totally do, it was his dream for ages and going into it he told that was what he wanted but I just wished she made him grovel when he did come back. Well everyone can't be Gavin form Collide/Pulse (SWOON!)
Anyways there's my rant - I think with the right conditioning this book could have been a good three four star read but the main characters were a let down.

You know that mousey, nerdy girl you went to high school with?

Not the cool-ish, nonconformist girl. The girl that doesn't make eye contact. The girl that responds to even the smallest amount of attention with puppy-like enthusiasm, so even though you feel a little bit guilty about it, you don't befriend her, b/c you just don't need that kind of hassle.

That's the kind of girl this book is about. Only this is alternate reality/book version, so she's pretty and talented.

The problem with Mousey, Nerdy Girl being pretty and talented is that being pretty and talented doesn't make her less annoying or less clingy.

But that doesn't matter. NOPE. Not at all.

Even though Mousey, Nerdy Girl throws herself at Rock Star Boy (repeatedly) and gets shot down (repeatedly), it's not b/c she's annoying and clingy (not to mention equal parts desperate and pathetic), no, it is not.

Rock star boy has issues, but Mousey, Nerdy Girl is determined (DE-TER-MINED) to help him work through them, b/c only she can truly understand him.

They're like . . . fated to be together or something.

So basically reading this book is like watching that mousey, nerdy girl from high school pitifully chase after BMOC and somehow wind up living HEA.

It's just sad.

"That's Beckett. He's the lead singer in our band. That's why it's called 'Beckett.' He has a big of an ego." Seriously who cares!! He's hot, I'd have an ego to! He has tattoos, I love tattoos, "he wears a short sleeved shirt, exposing the intricate tattoos weaving his upper arm." He's also a cocky little s***, "see something you like?" He drawls." Star knows how to stand her ground and even though the circumstances she does it in I didn't like I was proud of her, "whatever. I thought I saw something in you. I guess for a minute I thought you were different." Beckett has a secret and when that secret is about to be revealed he kind of turns into an arse, "Beckett moves closer to me, and lowers his voice. "If you want to know something you need to come to me." Really? Because she has been you arse and you don't answer! With Star we see a different side of Beckett he's changing, "no, I mean I've never chased anyone before. I've never had a problem with a girl walking away from me. But you, Star, you're different. You're worth running after." Well I'd she's different. Beckett and I have a love/hate relationship that teeters back and forth throughout the whole book. I do know this is another one that I need to get a paperback copy of.

I absolutely loved this book! A fast page turner, loveable characters, humor and well written. Star was easy to embrace, while Beckett was even easier to fall in love with. If your the type to have fictional boyfriends, Beckett is the one. ::swoon::

The story starts where every story starts, from the beginning, and from there on I was captivated, glued to the book like there was no end in sight. With the growing bond the characters have, the questions that arise as I was growing to love both Star and Beckett, there was no way I could stand to put this book down. I had to know both Star and Beckett's story. I wanted to know what made them both tick and what brought them to this place in their lives.

By the time I got the answers to the questions I had, the author threw in another twist, one I was not expecting and wanted to smash my Kindle against the wall for. Yes it was that intense! **Don't worry my kindle is safe, as I refrained from doing so.** Star Struck is a must read for anyone that loves a good Contemporary Romance Novel. A book I would definitely recommend.

****I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review****

Star Struck was a easy and fast paced read. A definite page turner that you just can't put down till you finish it. I love that it was about ordinary people that were struggling to make it big doing what they love - music.
There is Star who is sweet, caring and the shy type that loves singing and writes sweet love songs. Then there is Beckett who has a ego problem and can be a ass at times, who is a total cynic.
Their love story is not instant, they both struggle with the attraction they have for one another. Complete opposites they clash a bit at times but in the end their love for one another is what saves them I think.
This was an emotional read for me. Some parts made me mad, some made me laugh, some made me cry. I figure it's a great read when a book can pull me in so many directions.

I love all of Amber Garza's books, but this one is hands down my favorite. After reading so many books with angsty female characters lately, it's refreshing to meet someone like Star who is genuinely likable. You feel for her and you're rooting for her throughout the entire novel. Beckett--he's so intriguing with his hot/cold personality. I really liked that I couldn't quite figure him out, and once things come to light and you see why he acts the way he does, he becomes all the more lovable.

My favorite aspect of this book was the focus on music. The scenes where Star and Beckett wrote together really pulled at my heart strings. I loved the intimacy when they performed, and the glimpse into their true feelings that was revealed when they sang together. Amber did a fantastic job with this! Loved every minute of this romance and would highly recommend it to others!

I love Amber Garza's books because they are considered as clean romance. I was looking for a rocker romance read and this book definitely fill the gap of what I needed. I loved Star and Beckett!

"I swear every time I'm with Beckett I feel like I've endured whiplash. One minute I'm swooning over him, the next I want to gouge his eyes out with a dull spoon. He's so infuriating."

Beckett has some major emotional issues that he doesn't want Star to get involved but in the mean time trying to lead a band and avoid Star at all costs. Star is falling for Beckett but something is holding him back. Will they be able to work with another in the band or will they walk away and never look back?

"I've never had a problem with a girl walking away from me. But you, Star, you're different. You're worth running after."

This was a book that draws you in from the very beginning...I didn't want to put it down. Beckett and Star have a "fairytale" love that every girl wishes they had. Yes, there were times where I could have strangled Beckett but once he opened up and let Star in he really won me over...the whole time reading this book I kept saying to myself who the heck is Quinn...by the end of this book I was in tears...it really played with my heart strings and as silly as it sounds I could feel every emotion Beckett and Star were feeling...GREAT book I hate their story ended...would Love to have a Book about Lola and Ryker's relationship and would even love for Tate to find his happy ever after...Good job Amber, keep em' coming =)

Star Struck was a great read and its one of those books you just can't put down till you finish it. I love that it was a ever day life and you also get some insight on how a musician can be. You have Star who is sweet, caring and the shy type that loves singing and then she meets Beckett who has a ego problem and can be a ass at times but she feels a connection with him and believes she can help in opening him up. The only problem is that every time Beckett starts to get close to Star he starts thinking of what happen in the past and pushes her away. Star is willing to take the risk to be with him and see where it can lead but will Beckett.

Wow... Amber blew me away with this book. It is the first one I've read by her and I am really impressed.

Star and Beckett....amazing together! I love how Beckett tries to distant himself but can't and I love Stars' persistency. The storyline was great and it was written beautifully.

Amber captured the essence of a budding musicans inner turmoil about following thier dreams or accept the reality of everyday life. Being able to have both coexist harmoniously, that's the ultimate dream.

I hope that Amber will have a side story on Quinn or even Ryker in the works. That would be another great read!

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

This book is one of those books that you just can't put down. It is such an easy book to read.
I love every single character in this book. The way they ALL have a story to tell makes you want to read more. I love the chemistry between Star and Beckett it hits you from the first moment they meet. I also love how she dosen't fall for his crap and she's pretty quick to call him on his bullshit which is refreshing to read.

Yep after reading this you will definitely have to add another book boyfriend to he list.. hehe
Beckett is definitely swoon worthy and when you find out his story it will make you love him even more!

I loved this book. And it wasn't a series so that was a plus! I love stand alone books and I fell for Beckett and wanted to smack him silly sometimes but that's guys for you. Star didn't back down and kept her head high when he was being all jerkasarous like. But when I tell you he came through, he came through. Had to find his own path at the end but realized something greater then being a hot rock star. Love. Love always wins! I want this'll paperback!!!

What a wonderful read.
I just love a really good rocker romance. This one did not disappoint. What is a bit different is that Becket the lead singer in the band is very anti drinking and drugs. During the story you come to know why and it is a beautiful back story woven into the sweet romance between him & Star.
I totally recommend this to those like myself that love a very sweet & intense romance that has a little rocker bad boy to spice things up.

One of the worst books I've read in a long time! Aside form the serious number of typos and inconsistencies, I thought that it was a really weak plot. And how do you accept that the girl he was developing romantic feelings for reminded him of his sister????seriously! As for the heroine, she was just plain desperate, she had no real depth. Her friend was just irritating and Beckett, well, he was simply a douche!
