Six months pregnant, engaged and reconnecting with her family, from the outside things look good for Emma Mancelli, but things are rarely as they seem. The lives of Emma and Simon are about to change and just how much is something neither of them would have ever expected.
For Emma, her agoraphobia has always been her little piece of certainty, something she can control in a world full of uncertainties. Falling pregnant is something Emma never dreamed possible after a vicious assault as a child let her with horrendous injuries, but its kind of hard to relax when you're told the chances of both her and the baby surviving the pregnancy are less than twenty percent.
As Emma struggles to cope with the unknown, she begins to doubt her relationship with Simon as well as his unusually close relationship with his ex wife, Claire. Emma is tearing herself apart, with her anxieties and insecurities slowly consuming her.
Simon desperately wants to help Emma, but how can he when she wont open up to him? When tragedy strikes, Simon will be left to make some heartbreaking decisions. Wrought with guilt and overcome with emotion, can Simon be the rock Emma needs?
Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she's a cat, a cat who thinks he's a dog...you get the picture).
When she's not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.
Incredible Beauty is the second book in Missy Johnson's So Many Reasons series. If you haven't read the first book, So Many Reasons Why get to one-clicking now. Also, you probably shouldn't read this review as it contains for that book.
Incredible Beauty begins about six months after So Many Reasons Why. Simon and Emma have moved in together, are engaged and Emma is about seven months pregnant. Emma is trying to deal with her agoraphobia as well as she can, and is relying heavily on Simon to help with it. Simon is constantly worrying about Emma's mental and physical well being, as well as the health of their baby.
Quite early in the book we learn just how difficult the pregnancy had been on both Simon and Emma. We also learn that Emma is (trying) to hide just how stressed she is over the pregnancy and her agoraphobia. Simon, for the most part, has caught on to what Emma is trying to hide from him, with the exception of her overwhelming jealousy of Claire, and tries to do his best to make it easy for her. Just when you think that maybe everything is finally going to be okay for Simon and Emma tragedy strikes. This had the power to change everything, and Simon is left reeling, forced to make choices that can put his entire world in jeopardy.
This was a 3.5 star read for me. Probably my own fault as I had built it up so much in my head. It was a very good book, it just didn't quite live up to the expectations I had after So Many Reasons Why. I felt a certain disconnect from the characters that wasn't there in the first book. I thought that, for the most part, the story flowed well (there was one spot with a continuity error, that bugged me though) and was well written. I really missed Tom, as he only made one, barely there, appearance in this book. I found a lot of the book to be fairly predictable, but was happy to have an ending to Simon and Emma's story. I didn't have an emotional reaction to this book at all, which was surprising after how emotional So Many Reasons Why was for me. My absolute favorite part of the book? The reason behind the title, I loved it. I will be looking forward to Mandy's (the girl who was abducted, by the same man as Emma, in the first book) story.
Six months after the girls abduction and she being in the hospital due to the aftermath of what her former captor did she is more insecure about her relationship than ever. She has been feeling jealous of Simons ex-wife. She visits Simon in his office an takes him lunch. Even though he assures her they only have a friendly relationship for the benefit of his daughter, Emma is not convinced. She has a high risk pregnancy because of the scars she had left after her abduction back when she was 10 years old and there's a chance the baby won´t make it. Emma worrying about Simon and Claire, her baby and her agoraphobia lands her to the hospital and places her into a coma.. WHAT?! Indeed... Tragedy strikes again. Will their love survive in sickness too?
I can't believe how this book isn't popular. I loved it. The characters were so easy to love and there was romance, thriller, shocks and villains. I was so happy for Em. And I kinda have sympathy for Claire, but still she had no right. I can't wait till the next book for them to get married. And poor Simon. I'm glad that everything has worked out for him. Emma is a very lucky woman
So I had a lot of expectations going into this book, and some of them were met and others not so much. We pick up 7 months after we ended So Many Reasons Why, and see Emma and Simon and how their relationship has progressed, etc. I loved this part, seeing them together, etc. Then something awful happens, and that is where the story takes a downfall in my opinion. The story in itself was great, but there were so many unanswered questions still, and I felt like the story was stopped way before it should have been. As a reader I was disappointed with the outcome of the story, when there was so much potential to continue on and share more.
I still love Emma and Simon and wish we would have seen more of Cass and Tom like in the first book. Emma’s character has grown so much in the two books, and I wish we would have seen more of Simon in the beginning of the book and his POV.
All in All this story was good, was it what I expected? No, I expected more fire, and romance and Emma continuing to work through her problems, etc. I do encourage anyone who read So Many Reasons Why to read this, to see what happens with these characters, I just wish it wasn’t the end of their story, I feel so much more could be done with these characters, and their relationships.
I was asked to beta read Incredible Beauty (the sequel to So Many Reasons Why) by Missy Johnson, and I was very excited to continue on with Em and Simon’s story! You can really feel the growth and struggles that Simon and Em go through, individually and together, in this heart-felt sequel. This story is a little different; it’s not about the butterflies of first love. It’s about Em and Simon’s struggles as a couple, further down the road. I don’t want to give away any spoilers if you haven’t read So Many Reasons Why, but if you are excited to read about what happens next for this couple, you won’t be disappointed. There’s a lot of tense drama and the hair raised on my arms a few times. If you loved So Many Reasons Why, you’d better pick up a copy of Incredible Beauty.
I really loved the first book...it was funny and witty. This one, the second in the series, I thought was good but I was a little disappointed in it. Don't get me wrong it's a great series and I would probably read it again sometime in the future.
I was mostly intrigued to learn what would happen with this love story so I bought the sequel almost as soon as I read the last page of the first book. Again, the story was lovely, but this second book just wasn't as good as the first. It was nice.
I won a copy of Incredible Beauty from the author, Missy Johnson, through a Goodreads giveaway (a big thank you by the way). The book is a continuation of book one in a series of two books. While I did not start with book 1, I thoroughly enjoyed Incredible Beauty and was in no way hindered by lack of previous background. The characters were likeable. I found the writing easy to read; the story flowed well and was engaging. A good sit by the fireplace and read book. Thank you for the opportunity to read the conclusion of Emma and Simon’s story (though is it truly the end???). I will definitely pick up other Missy Johnson’s books for reading in the future.
Ok, so I really liked the first book in this series. I wanted to like this second book, but I felt like there was nothing of substance in this book. I felt like all the best parts of this book could have been put in the first. There really was not need for a series it should have been a stand alone.
Simon was just as hot ever, but he never came clean about his past struggles to Emma. Why even talk about it if you're not going to close that chapter. I liked his ex Claire in the first book I can't believe she ended up a villain in the second. seriously not needed.
Emma was pretty inconsistent in this book. Not digging it.
This book was a good one it is the contuines from the first one where Emma finds out that she is pregent with simmons baby. Emma has a hard fight againist her as she and simmon have to make some hard choices that come to them . All in all it was a great book wouild recomond it to anyone that wants a good read . We find out at the end of the book that there is going to have a spin off with maddy the girl that emma tried to help
No hay mucho que decir sobre este libro. No me gusta mucho la forma de escribir de la autora y siento que intenta causarle estrés al lector con sucesos pero falla en el intento. Por otra parte, el fin del libro fue patético.
Didn't enjoy this as much as the first one. There didn't seem to be that dynamic between the 2 main characters like there was in the first book. Was good to read Simons POV thou in this book.
