That was just amazing, phenomenal, I just couldn’t fathom THAT plot !! OMG this series is only getting better and better. The intensity of Oriana and Rowan's relationship is just off the charts but most of all I loved they both accept each other for who they are with the good and the bad. Because let’s say it, Rowan does have kind of an arrogant/b*stard attitude 🤣 and she’s a feisty one. Sooo they’re good for each other, and their interactions are just fire, fire, fire.

Oriana wants to join the Astral elite rank and to do so enrol in the Academy, little did she know that she would have to deal with Rowan as her professor and one thing is sure he doesn’t give her special treatment, he’s even worse with her than the others. Rowan tries to fight it, but the more he sees her, the more he’s obsessed with her, she’s strong, fierce, beautiful and he just wants to teach her all the right things and put her in her place (right under him 😆).

After the last book, I was curious to know what would happen and I have to say that the plot twist truly surprised him and it’s just awesome. I cannot wait for the next book !!
Also, I love Étienne, and just hope he will have his HEA, I don’t know why but I see him with a man, he’s too cocky for a woman 🤣

I was a Beta reader for Elliot Rose, this review is from my own thoughts 😍.

This author continues to utterly wow me with the plot to this story. As I read it, the outside world ceased to exist. I loved Rowan and Ri as they were made for each other. The tension and undeniable chemistry easily fed me. Ri was a wild one and I love characters like her. My butt stayed on the edge of my seat as I was excited by the twists. I will readily & excitedly recommend any story this talented lady writes. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

It took me a while to gather the courage to write this review, reason being I am sure I still can't put in to words how amazing this book(the whole series is) was I had the pleasure to Beta read and ARC privileges for starters y'all know by now I dont write reviews with spoilers So go ahead and get the book if I picked you curiosity 😏😃

Rowan MMC made his way into my heart since his first growl and all damned tattoes didn't help either and Ri FMC became my goal to attitude since I read about her.
Both of them show us the true meaning of love and loyalty 💗

Their story will take you on a rollercoaster that you won't want you get off, Darling Elliot is a master of creating worlds and situations that will have you screaming at her and the book for a while but then you'll apologise and say you love her 🤣

The SPICE is as usual top filthy and delicious there is no big triggers at least for me but make sure are read content warnings.

This book is not for clutching imaginary pearls 🤣🤣 with that said I need Goodreads to up the book reviews ratings because this Book is a solid 10 stars Now go get it thank me later💓💁🏽‍♀️

~ STORY 📝 ~

I guess I'm missing a lot of world-building since I didn't read the first 3 books, but I didn't feel lost at all.

The school is a new setting to the Nocturnal Hearts Series and was easy enough to imagine with all the details. I really loved the ambiance of a school full of eternal beings, all with different abilities and backgrounds. 😄

The characters from previous stories are all greatly introduced (and it's done without spoilers so I'm gonna be able to thoroughly enjoy reading their stories. 🥰)

For the plot: It's laid out in the beginning then we get back to it later in the book. Yeah, let's be real it's mainly a love story (with loaaaads of smuts ❤️‍🔥).

~ ROMANCE & MAIN CHARACTERS 💖 ~

That love story got me BUZZING ! I love them to bits honestly.

Loved Oriana, her strength, her resilience, her fearlessness and her determination.

Rowan will forever haunt my dreams bc he just might be the ultimate alpha (tattooed) warrior. 😮‍💨 (and gosh that filthy mouth...🫠🔥).

I expected another dynamic between them when I read the blurb but damn this was soothing and scorching hot all at once.

~ SPICE 🌶️ ~

The spice, man, the spice.

Bit of advice : Before reading this, take a large bottle of water and keep it like you're life depends on it bc Rowan is not for the weak-hearted!

I didn't even though I liked degradation. Do I like degradation or do I love him? I don't know anything anymore 😂😂😂🤣

The tension is here almost instantly, the spice takes a little more time but damn when it begins it almost never stops unless the plot really needs to get going. 🤣🔥

🖤 Oriana (aka Ri) is a young fae and her sister is Queen Ruby. She has been her sister’s protector for years. Ruby offers her a teaching position but Ri insists on enrolling as a student so she can earn her place and train to join a squad of the most elite fighters. Ri is stubborn, fierce, great with knives, and every word out of her mouth is cunning and full of sass.
🖤 Rowan is a broody warlord and witch that has been charged with protecting the realm for over 300 years. Now he is forced to teach weaponry and fight training at the academy for a year. He wants nothing more than to hate Ri or at least avoid her but he can’t seem to stay away or get her out of his head.

“I’m quite fond of dangerous things, brute.” ~ Ri.

This book has everything: fighting like enemies while secretly obsessing over each other, resisting the pull to be together, finally giving in, hiding their relationship, and an intense third act conflict that put me through all the emotions (pain, fear, heartache, love, etc.). The final conflict tore me apart before putting me back together perfectly. The banter is top notch and the plot is tight, this book has zero lulls. I read about 80% of the book in one night and just couldn’t put it down.

I had suspicions on who our villainous character was but their true identity and intentions are a mystery. All of the characters are written with such depth that you end up feeling for all of them including our villain (but I cannot abide by threatening Rowan and his Little Faerie).

Full transparency, this is the first Nocturnal Hearts book I have read and I’m obsessed! I have to read the rest immediately but I doubt I could love them more than Rowan and Ri.

I’m a big dark romance girlie but I’m usually not into stark power dynamics like student/ teacher. However, this book blew any and all expectations out of the water, it may be my new favorite thing.

✨ Thank you Elliott Rose for allowing me to ARC read Brutal Birthright, it is out TODAY! If you’re into dark romance, dark academia, or fantasy you have to read this book.

BOOK 5 - Nocturnal Hearts Series

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I CRIED TOO.

Book 5 follows our bloodthirsty brooding warlord, Rowan. Rowan has been sworn and cursed to protect the realm for 300 years, and for all that time, he has walked alone....until Orians showed up.

Oriana, or Ri, is a young fae woman and the sister to Queen Ruby. Ri is a stubborn and stabby girl who loves her blades and is training at Atsracadia, a magical college, to become a Queen's guard.

Rowan gets forced into teaching weaponry and fighting at Astracadia, and when he learns Ri is his student, he realises how f***ed he really is as he fights all urges to pin Ri against a wall.

It's obvious and safe to say that I am an Elliott Rose fan, who will gladly die on a hill so long as there is a Nocturne there!

**Preferred reading order was book 3, 1, 2, 4, 5.
This series is made of 5 standalone books, so they can be read separately and, in any order, but are all intertwined into the world of the Nocturnes.

ARC Review

This was my first book by Elliott and I can’t get enough! Do not make my mistake and sleep on these books and author!!

This book follows Rowan and Oriana. Rowan of Nocturne, a black hearted warrior finds himself as a professor at Astracadia Academy. He has agreed to help with training the students for a year. After that, all he wants to do is be left alone. He sure as hell wasn’t expecting the distraction of a particular faerie, especially one he is forbidden from touching. Oriana, has one goal in mind. Succeed in reaching the elite Astral ranks, without the help of her sister, the Queen. The only thing in her way is the tattooed, broody teacher who humiliated her. But something dark is coming for them all. Nothing should distract them from their mission, until one stolen moment changes everything.

This book was HOT! Not only did it have a brooding tattooed professor with a foul mouth, there was a strong FMC and a few twists & turns. Rowan is definitely my newest book boyfriend. There is something about a grumpy MMC that just sucks me in! Ri was such a strong and badass FMC. She knew what she wanted and not even a sexy Nocturne was going to get in her way. From the very beginning of the story, we knew how they couldn’t resist one another and the tension between them was amazing. There was also a good amount of banter that had me giggling and the side characters were perfect. Loved the interactions of Rowan and his brother, Niall. Definitely need to go back and read the book with Niall, absolutely loved him! Highly recommend reading this book and the others in the Nocturnal Hearts series!

Thank you so much Elliott for the opportunity to read this book! It was such an amazing read and I can’t wait to read other books from you!

Holy f*ck, that was amazing!
I was already a fan of this series, of Elliot's writing style and the spice filled stories in these books.
This final part truly did justice to the series. I bloody loved it.
The story, the characters, the tension, the mystery, the excitement, the spiiiiiiice. I love dirty talk and Rowan has a filthy mouth on him, oof! Rowan is an asshole, but gods is he a hot one. Growling, tattoos, grumpy and with a filthy mouth?! Leave it to Elliot to write the perfect fictional man. Ri is the FMC and is an absolute badass. I loved them both and how their bond developed.

This story was a rollercoaster and will make you feel all the things. The spice was (in Elliot style) top tier. This book was smoking hot, yet still had a plot. A plot that was good too. I may have shed a tear when I read the final chapter and epilogue 🖤

If I could give this book 6 stars I would. I'm sad this era of Nocturne is over, but it was a worthy ending of this era. Loved love loved it.

4.5 stars!

I loved Brutal Birthright and already have book 1 of the series queued up because I want to read the other stories now!

Rowan might be my new favorite grumpy (plus a few other words) MMC. He is so over the top and I love it! Ri is definitely a new favorite FMC. She is a total badass and is driven to get what she wants.

I absolutely loved the storyline of the forbidden romance and underlying suspense. I seriously couldn't put this one down!

For the love of the Goddesses, this was torture.

She hated him.

Despised him.

Maybe if she repeated it enough times, she might actually believe it. There was a fine line between hate and... well... infatuation. And Ri honestly didn't know which side of that line she fell face-first on.

I have been certifiable trash for Rowan of Nocturne from the moment he brooded menacingly from the pages of Lachie's book. This hulking, tattooed grump with a penchant for weapons and desperation for undisturbed solitude in his cottage hidden in the depths of the woods spoke to me on such a visceral level, it was like he reached through the pages and took me by the throat, holding me there, fixed. Ever since that moment, I - like so many other readers - has been left hankering for his book.

And like the devious authoress Elliott Rose can be (the tease! lol), she made us wait until the end of the Nocturnal Hearts portion of this saga to give us what we wanted: all of the Rowan we could possibly ask for.

I'm happy to report that this dark, dominant, and filthy-mouthed witch was worth every agonizing second we had to wait.

Brutal Brithright is Rose's spin on the classic forbidden student/teacher romance, complete with an age gap. The main difference? All of the students at this magical academy are immortal adults.

But because Queen Ruby messed around with her bodyguard (and fated mate) Niall in the previous book when she should have kept her hands to herself (but can you really blame the girl?), she's determined to prove the rumors that have been flying since at bay by insisting that only fated pairs can be teachers at this new academy, as it removes the risk of any scandals. But there's one problem with this plan of hers: one of her teachers has been murdered and the only person she can trust with taking over the position is definitely not mated, and while he exudes "do not fuck with me" energy for days, that isn't going to stop the other students from drooling in his wake.

So she enlists her sister, Oriana - who is going to be a student during this academic year - to keep an eye on him and warn off any would-be seducers and paramours.

But there's another problem: in spite of the tension and open animosity between Ri and Rowan, there's also a combustable chemistry between them that's like a ticking time bomb, just waiting to go off.

What could possibly go wrong?

Ri wasn't submissive by nature. Far from it. But Rowan released something inside her that felt right to give him this position while she still manifested her own power. The kind that she could easily wield even from her knees.

The first thing I should note about this book, and Elliott Rose's books in general, is that her stories are focused predominantly on the developing romantic relationship between her mains. Are there other things going on around these two prickly, yet perpetually horny for each other characters? Sure. But if you like a healthy side of political machinations and detailed conflicts that don't involve the whole "will they/won't they?", this may not be for you.

If you're in the market for a dirty-talking hardass of a witch and his snarky fae pupil exchanging barbs and orgasms, then you've come to the right place!

"Other girls might want someone to treat them like a precious little princess. But I see you. You deserve someone who understands how to treat you as their perfect fucking whore. Don't forget that."

The relationship between Rowan and Oriana is heavy on the degradation (which Ri is totally into when it's rolling off of Rowan's tongue). These two are a bit twisted in their preferences, their individual darknesses feeding off of the other, and it works gloriously. If knife play, blood play, and animalistic marking are hard lines for you, however, take note that these two get kinda freaky in their time together.

But in typical Elliott Rose fashion, it's not all biting teeth, bruising grips, and ravenous fucking (although there's plenty of that to go around). There are some wonderfully tender moments where we get to see a softer side to Rowan of Nocturne in particular that no one else in his life gets to see, except for Ri. For all of their collective bravado, these two get very vulnerable at times, and it's one of my favorite aspects of the romance genre in general - getting to see the secretly soft and gooey centers beneath the hardened shells that notoriously impervious characters have hidden away under the surface.

I've always had a weakness for the "they could definitely kill you" types that prove positively weak for their significant other. Brutal Birthright has that in abundance.

If the girl had been a witch, he'd be certain that this feeling lodged like an axe in his chest was a hex or an enchantment. But no. Just a fierce girl with a fondness for knives and a talent for dragging his darkness out to tangle with her own.

Some non-romance related points to note:

We don't get much of Brigid in this installment (which left me pouting on several occasions), BUT THAT FINALE! I wish I could talk about it without spoiling the entire thing, but suffice it to say, Elliott uses the epic, heart-stopping, stress-inducing climax to setup the next chapter of this fantasy universe she's created, and you guys? I cannot freaking WAIT!

My fave is going to get more chances to shine and wreak chaos (yes please and thank you), and a certain character that has captivated me since the first book but has barely gotten any page time proves a force to be reckoned with, and y'all? I need more of this character. I want to bask in their violent, blood-soaked retribution against the House of Elharean. It's long overdue, and I already feel such a strong affinity to this character. I need more.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that - like she did with Rowan - Elliott is going to make me wait for it. Rude. 😜

TL;DR - this series is such fun and I'm eagerly waiting on the edge of my proverbial seat for more. Some minor writing notes: could this have used a bit more fine-tuning? Yes. There were a few grammatical choices and word repetitions that pulled me out of the story a few times; but on the whole, I found it to be otherwise solid. The pacing was good. The slow-ish-but-more-medium-burn romance was great. The spice was such fun. And that ending!

Suffice it to say, I need the next book in my hands ASAP!

"Listen well, little faerie. You're everything I never knew I could hope for or even desire. The only Goddess-given bright spot in an otherwise bleak existence until now."

He took another long inhale of spice, blowing it out slowly before continuing.

"Before I met you, things came only in shades of grey or crimson. Now it's like there's a whole palette of colour to my life that I haven't even been aware I could dare to reach for. My greatest fear is that this is all a dream, and one day I'll wake up and find that my bed is cold and I'm submerged back into the endless murky, bloodiness of life without you in it."

This book was SPICY. I love the grumpy/sassy trope and this definitely delivered. There is for sure more spice than plot, but Rowan’s dirty mouth was just 🫠. The plot didn’t pick up until about 75% through and I do wish it was more dispersed throughout the entire book. It was enjoyable, especially if you are in the mood for erotica.

Thank you to the author for an early copy of this book! The following review is my honest feedback and given voluntarily.

This was my second read from this author and it did not disappoint! 😁 Rowan and Oriana's story was fun, fast-paced, and sexy as hell! I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down once I started! The tension between these two characters was so freakin electric at the beginning and they are truly enemies-to-lovers! The writing was done well and things just flowed so easily. I didn't feel like there was really any lag time or major plot holes.

I also ARC read Vicious Cravings prior to Brutal Birthright, but I have not had a chance to read the previous 3 books in this series, just as a disclaimer. But I didn't feel like I was missing a whole lot when reading BB. I may have had a deeper understanding of the "hate" between Rowan and Ri if I had, but honestly, I really felt it just the same! Rose's writing and easy summary points that she slides in subtly throughout the story really gives you a lot of key points so it made everything really easy to put together. I probably would have gotten a little more background on the individual characters had I read the previous books, but again, I think things were pretty solid considering my situation. And I think that's great when reading interconnected standalones!

Oriana's character was a total baddie and I loved her spunk and tenacity! The way she challenges Rowan was sooo good and sooo freakin hot. She is a fierce little thing and I loved her from jump. She was truly Rowan's "twin flame" in pretty much every way and I loved the fact that she consistently met him step-for-step, blow-for-blow. And I loved that Rowan acknowledged that about her, loved that shit, and rose to meet her just the same. 😍😍😍 Rowan was just that classic grumpy, tough, tight-ass, who just makes you melt into a puddle when you get him alone in a room. And that mouth on him!!!! 🥵🥵🥵 God was he hot! And a big 'ol guy with tats and long hair?? 🫠🫠🫠 Their chemistry was just insane. I loved it. Not to mention the fact that HE COULD ACTUALLY VOICE HIS THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS CLEARLY!!!!! So refreshing! Granted, it took a little bit of time to get him there, but once he was there, HE WAS IN THERE!!!! And their devotion to each other at the end was just *silent screaming*

As far as plot goes, I would say, as with Vicious Cravings, the plot is definitely in the background compared to the two MC's "love" story. Which, for me, was totally fine. I think I got enough to be satisfied and interested in what was going down outside of their immediate storyline. But if you're the type that needs more plot with your romantasy, then you might come up a little short. It's heavy on the tension and spice between Oriana and Rowan but the overall plot definitely plays out in a way that reminds you other things are happening too.

I also ADORED how all of the previously storied MCs from the other books were all included in this book in some way. Since I read VC, I loved seeing Nell, Ace, and Hunter in various spots (I fell so freakin hard for that trio in their book, gaaahhh it was soooo good and I highly recommend that book too!). Especially since this was technically supposed to be the end of the Nocturnal Hearts series, it was really cool to see everyone involved in this ending in some way, even if it was a small part.

I think the only complaint I really have about this one was that I thought the ending was a little abrupt and would have really loved to have read about Ro & Ri I still loved the ending, but really wanted more!

I definitely would recommend this book! If you're looking for a fun, sexy, and adventurous romantasy, this ticks all the boxes. And since it's an interconnected standalone, it can be read easily without having read the others in the series previously (although I'm sure they are good too!).

Enjoy and happy reading! 🤙🏼💕

Elliott does not miss! Brutal Birthright is no exception! Every book I have read from her steals my heart and sticks to my soul! There is something so vivid about the way this author tells a story that stays in my brain and makes me absolutely feral! I loved this couple so much! Oriana and Rowan are a match made in Heaven! I love their enemies to lovers/hate to love energy with my whole heart! They both resent one another for reasons they can’t explain and try to resist the pull that they have on one another. But, he’s her teacher so any relationship would be wildly inappropriate. Rowan should keep his hands off her. They total fail at it lol

Rowan only knows death and war and he is haunted by the power he possesses for destruction. He says hardly anything to anyone but when he opens his mouth… Straight flames!! This witch owns my soul. I knew he would. But the protectiveness and how absolutely crazy he is for Ri made me melt! He broke my brain in the very best way! I loved how he allowed her and only her behind the guard he holds up to prevent anyone from getting close to him. He marks her as his and even before he can publicly claim her, he makes sure what’s his, stays his!

Oriana is desperate to prove herself worthy against competitors at her school for a spot as one of the elite in the Astrals. She doesn’t want anyone to think she slept her way to the top; she has to earn it. This fae is fierce and determined and I loved how she never backs down from a challenge! Rowan is exactly that! She doesn’t want to fall victim to his broody, bossy attitude but, honey, there’s just no way. What Rowan wants, Rowan gets! She is the only person that could handle him, I’m certain.

The threat to the school plus the spice makes this book intense and action packed! It’s fast paced and I never wanted to put this book down! Omgoodness the reveals 🤯😱 You’re not ready! Plus I always enjoy getting to see my favorites have their cameos in the book and we got to see everyone again in this final Nocturnal Hearts story.

But back to the spice, this book is super HOT! I was weak in the knees, nearly gonna pass out, obsessed, extremely obsessed! There are some scenes that will live rent free in my head from this book for probably years to come! The library!!! The lake!!! I just think that Elliott Rose really knocks it out of the park with the spice every single time. For each couple it is just perfection and you get something a little bit different. This book is a lot more into the BDSM type of dynamic than any of the other previous books and I was here for it!

Elliott has not acknowledged my claim on Rowan, but I’m letting everyone of you know: HE’S MINE! Thanks ☺️

If you could not guess, I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes paranormal romance, or even dark romance. This book can be read as a complete standalone so you do not have to be caught up in the series to enjoy this one. Though, I do highly recommend the entire series. A big thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book for review!

I am so lucky to have stumbled upon Elliott Rose’s book teasers and I am beyond thankful I did. She captivated my interest with her fantasy character hints and I’m glad I gave her books a chance.

Brutal Birthright is book 5 of the Nocturnal Hearts series - it can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the other books first to gather more of a backstory.

This book is also a dark romance - so be sure to check TWs prior to reading. I also give it a 4/5 on the spice scale.

Brutal Birthright features a brute MMC named Rowan - a tattooed witch/warlord and a feisty FMC named Oriana (Ri) - a dark fae.

Rowan has been forced to teach at the academy to train fellow students to be warriors as Ri has been told to enlisted as a student by her queen sister Ruby to try and become an Elite Astral - the highest ranked warriors hand picked for surviving the toughest battles thrown at them. However, Rowan and Ri loath each other and are now forced to be in close proximity until the year is over. Ri however, has always had fantasies about Rowan ever since their first meeting. As much as she loathes him, she desires him that much more. Rowan, knows Ri is off limits, but yet can’t help feel drawn to her even though he knows he cannot cross that line. She is the queens sister and his student - he couldn’t possibly give into temptation. He’s knows he is a cold hearted warrior, he couldn’t possibly give her what she wanted. As time goes on fate seems to bring them together, torture them and increase the burning tension between them until one kiss is all it takes….

Throughout the book, darkness looms closer as fellow characters parish by an ancient creature no one has heard of for centuries. Rowan, his coworker Finn, his brother Niall and his fated mate Ruby - the queen, are tasked with trying to defeat what is lingering in the dark. During one of the final trials Rowan has set forth for his students to rank high as becoming Elite Astrals, tragedy struck. Ri was captured. Will Rowan be able to save her in time? Will she be able to survive whats to come? Will he be able to have the chance to finally reveal the truth to her? Read to find out more….

Looking for an amazing fantasy and paranormal series with a *chef's kiss* spicy, this is for you. Elliot Rose is a new author I found thank you alghoritm being so happy for it. Also I recieved this book as an ARC and I'm so happy and even I'm late, I need express my feels.

Is true is the 5, even here say is the 4, being apart of the series you can read it as standalone but for better experience read in order. The story develope in an academy with a really grumpy guy so dark and yes, a dark FMC strong and stunning, and yes, he's her teacher so making the things more interesting and steamy for how forbidden feels, and of course that's make their tension better. As I said the things in the book is a good plot, that makes flow and you can eat 400 pages in a few minutes you can't put it down, because how intense the things grow makes all better.

Oriana is a fantastic gorgeous, strong FMC, glad to found her and how can fight with Rowan, even yes, he is on her mind, and fantasies, knows how to fight because if I don't say 🗡️as a language is something delightful because they're really enemies to lovers, even she shows him how looks under her pretty dress I really get her in a favourite place in my heart that little faerie is the best, want to be her. Rowan, oh my god, that man is one of the best ones I ever read, want a big grumpy tattoed man in my life, the ways he can command her, but love how can be strong and see how vulnerable he is when you know him and, as always, the soft side of an ice man is the best the way he talks to her, the dirt and the lovely way makes me melt me.

Also the other characters from the series make appereance and is awesome, even I need to read their books, I love it and make me read it also, I can see it, lovely witchy miss those three in the new series.

'Brutal Birthright' is a really amazing book, love being in a fantasy book, is one of the things I looking to read: Have romance, action, amazing characters and love have a good plot - smut balance, also the way she write is fantastic, amazing and I want continue read all her books.

Wow - this book was FUN! I had no idea what to expect
going into this read; this was the first Elliot Rose book I’ve read and it definitely won’t be my last. 🫶 This is a HOT adult fantasy romance.

We get:
🗡️Dual POV
🗡️Enemies to lovers
🗡️Forced Proximity
🗡️Academy for supernaturals (they’re grown folk, y’all)
🗡️Forbidden romance (teacher/student but also his brother is fae mated to her sister, the queen)
🗡️Age gap lol (his 300 years to her 30 years)
🗡️Fated Mates
🗡️High High High Heat 🔥🔥🔥🔥
🗡️Talk so dirty, it’s filthy
🗡️Hand necklace
🗡️Mine!
🗡️Touch her and die
🗡️All mythological creatures working together: fae, shifters, witches, sprites, etc
🗡️Check the CW/TW

I loved the heat and lust between Rowan and Ri. Right off the bat they do NOT like each other but that doesn’t stop them from secretly lusting after each other.

Rowan is a big muscled full body tatted up warlord witch, and he is the grumpiest grump of all grumps. In other words, he’s that broody supernatural your momma warned you about but you gotta learn the hard way. And I love him.

Ri is sister to the queen and is determined to train and become one of the hand-picked elite warriors, The Astrals. I absolutely love her drive to earn her place among the warriors instead of allowing her sister, the queen, to place her as a guard. One of the things I loved most is how her grumpy instructor, Rowan, always wanted her to succeed and pushed her even harder than others. Although externally it came off as him being a huge dick, we see his true motives while in his POV.

This book has an epic battle between the big bad, and I thought it was a great build up to that scene. For me the blend of romance story telling between Ri and Rowan plus the big external conflict was perfect.

If you love a spicy hot fantasy romance with action, magic, and general badassery, Brutal Birthright is for you.

Thank you to Book Sirens for my ARC. Thoughts/opinions are my own and my review is voluntary.

Brutal Birthright was an absolutely DELIGHT of a story. It had the perfect recipe for my favorite reads: the yearnin' burnin', enemies to lovers, dripping in the MMC's angst, steeped in the FMC's badass-ery... it all was absolutely delicious. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE SPICE! (because I will never stop) Hot tamale, it was absolutely incredible. I am still BUZZING after finishing this today and might immediately need a reread! I haven't read any of the previous books in the Nocturnal Hearts series, and I definitely plan to go back and read them.

Our FMC is Oriana (or Ri), who is determined to prove her worth, not wanting to take any shortcuts and demonstrate that she deserves a coveted spot in the Astrals. She doesn't take sh*t from anyone, especially not from her brute of a teacher.
"How something so small could be so fierce was a mystery shrouded in what must undoubtedly be magic."

Our MMC is Rowan, blinded by the dark nature and violence of his past. He's distanced himself from everyone in an effort to protect them, but does his brother a favor by helping out at the newly opened Astracadia Academy. He agrees to help, on the condition he can train students exactly as he sees fit and do whatever he wants with them.

"Are you going to punish me?" "I bet you'd like that." SHIVER

Ri and Rowan have a troubled history, but could they have a future?

"How do I ask her to be my shelter from the storm when I'm the fucking violence raining down from the sky?"

I was absolutely obsessed with our main characters, the storyline and the world that Elliott Rose built. I seriously can't decide if I love Rowan or Ri more!

I was an ARC reader for Elliott Rose, but my review is all my own. This was so much fun, and I had a blast enjoying this book.

What can I say about this book of utter perfection? Elliott has once again delivered a spicy paranormal fantasy romance for us to enjoy. Oh and there’s fated mates too, I don’t know what it is about fated mates books, but they hit at whole other level.

In this story we have Oriana and Rowan. Oriana or Ri as she’s often referred to, is a young fierce little fae warrior who has enrolled into Astracadia a college for supernaturals. Rowan of Nocturne is grumpy powerful warlord who has been talked into teaching at the college for a year. The pair had met previously in an earlier book with Ri being the sister or Ruby the Queen of the Fae whose fated mate is Rowan’s brother Niall.

Ri and Rowan will take you on one wild emotional journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The chemistry and tension between the pair is oh so good and once they hit breaking point, hello dirty talking Rowan. In all honesty Rowan has made his way to God tier level for book boyfriends, he is simply that good. And as always in true Elliott Rose fashion the spice is hot and dirty in all the ways we have come to love from her.

Brutal Birthright is the final book in her Nocturnal Hearts series, even though it’s sad to close this era a new one will begin. If you look hard enough she’s sneakily left a few little breadcrumbs that could potentially lead into her next series. I have my theories but I’m keeping those cards close to my chest for now.

✨ Brutal Birthright ✨

~ Enemies to Lovers
~ Forced Proximity
~ Fated Mates (Reluctant AF)

✨ My Thoughts ✨
Holy hot mama... I am obsessed. I couldn't stop once I started. Oriana is the definition of badass. She is strong and determined. I love seeing her open her heart just a bit. Now Rowan... Let me just fan myself for a second. He may be the grump/jerk but he defends those he loves with everything he has. The mouth he has just melts into a puddle. I loved seeing his walls come down just a bit too. I loved all the action. I loved seeing the other characters from previous books. The ending has my heart pounding. I seriously can't gush enough about this book and series.

Brutal Birthright is book 5 in the Nocturnal Hearts series. I definitely recommend reading the others first before this one. While technically you don't have to but it makes this story so much better. This series/book is recommended for 18+. As always please check TW before reading. So for all those dark loving paranormal lovers this series is a must for you.

✨ I want to thank Elliott for an eARC of this book. These are my own true thoughts ✨

enemies to lovers

Oh this one was good! All the tension between student and teacher. Forbidden love!

Oriana, who is a farie (they don’t choose their fated mate), is the sister of the Queen who enrolled in school so she could job the Astrals (the best of the best- royal guards). Also, the one man she can’t stop thinking about happens to be her teacher.

Rowan, who is a witch (they can choose their fated mate )is the best defender of the realm, he is the one who gets sent to defeat the evil threats in their world, and he is mad that he has to teach a class and the fact that the one woman he can’t have is in his class.

Oh the banter and tension between these two was fantastic!

I received this as a free ARC and this is my honest review.

First I just want to say that this was my first book from this series so my review is coming from a first time reader.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and getting to know Rowan and Ri and the dynamic between the 2 of them. I did however struggle a little bit with understanding how the world is built. That being said though I’d definitely go back and read the earlier books to get a grasp on the other relationships and world building.

I also can’t say no to slight degradation 🥵 and a brute 🤤

Every book in this series gets darker, spicier, and better each time.
This is Ri and Rowan's story in a dark academia setting with a forbidden teacher student romance. It is dark, angry and spicy and grows into an unexpected beautiful love. That is something about a grumpy, brooding, violent, hot, tattooed recluse with a dirty mouth that just makes me swoon. This series has become one of my favorites and I will happily read anything this author releases in the future

This was my first Elliott Rose book and I can tell you it will not be the last. I came into this series without reading the first four books. Each book is a standalone and the author did an amazing job with the world building and explaining each of the characters world without me getting confused. I was able to visualize everything the author was writing. I literally devoured this book and they had some twist and turns that had me gasping and sobbing. Not only was the spice good but the plot was even better.

This book follows the badass FMC, Oriana and the Rowan our badass Warlord MMC. Oriana enrolls in a Academy to join the Astral Elite rank. Meanwhile she finds out Rowan is her instructor. The angst between the two in the beginning was great. The chemistry throughout the book is amazing. I loved everything about it.

I highly recommend this book. I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in the series after this one.

✨ Favorite Quotes:

“Other girls might want someone to treat them like a precious little princess. But I see you. You deserve someone who understands how to treat you as their perfect fucking whore. Don’t forget that.”

“Well, here it is, little faerie. I like to edge. I like to tease. I like to have you begging. I like to control and own, and when I use words that shouldn’t turn you on… but they do… I like that the most.”

“You make me forget how to breathe, yet I also feel like my blood is going to burst out of my body at the same time, little faerie.”

“My black fucking heart aches for you. It beats only for you.”

If you’re jonesing for a really hot romantasy that crams in all of our favorite tropes without ever veering into cheesy, then you have got to check out Elliott Rose's Nocturnal Hearts Series. Each book is an interconnected standalone, so feel free to start where you please, but in the event that a forced proximity, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance is your speed then I suggest you start with the final installment: Brutal Birthright.

If you like your MMCs hulking, tattooed, and mean then might I introduce you to Rowan of Nocturne, a 300-some year old warlord witch who is here to knock heads together and chew bubble gum, and he has never liked bubble gum. And when he is forced to teach at the new Fae Queen’s academy he is just thrilled to bits. Doubly so when it turns out the queen’s fierce sister is a student with her sights set on graduating into the inaugural elite royal guard. Rowan and Oriana have always rubbed each other the wrong way, but after being forced to spend so much time in the training ring together, maybe the issue is more that they need to be rubbing each other the right way.

Rowan has the most deliciously filthy mouth, and he pairs it with one of the best internal dialogues I’ve read. His inner cockiness had me giggling on more than one occasion. Do you remember that scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where young Indy looks around and declares, “Everybody’s lost but me?” That’s Rowan’s energy. Oriana is fierce and independent, determined to make a name for herself as an elite warrior and has the spirit to see her through. Both characters were a joy to read and so fun to watch interact. That enemies to lovers tension we all know and love is abundant in spades in this one, so grab your popcorn, prepare your feet to do little kickies, and crack open Brutal Birthright.

Brutal Birthright marks the end of the Nocturnal Hearts series, and I couldn't think of a better way to see out this series than with Rowan and Oriana's story.

"There was a fine line between hate and...well...infatuation. And Rhi honestly didn't know which side of that line she fell face-first on."
Oriana (Ri) is a strong, confident FMC who knows what she wants and will work hard to get it, that is until the tall, dark, hot as hell fighting instructor with tattoos for days turns up in her life. She's ultimately focused on the end goal, but not adverse to a little distraction along the way.

"Listen well Little Faerie. You're everything I never knew I could hope for or even deserve."
Rowan of Nocturne has been a sexy, brooding mystery throughout the Nocturnal Hearts series, so it was definitely a treat to finally learn what was going on behind his tough exterior.

The paranormal world that's been created is so intricate, with a unique magic system and so much potential for expansion. Although be aware that the fantasy elements do play second fiddle to the romance between the main characters and the character development. The sexual tension and spice are predominantly the plot, but believe me they do not disappoint.

The fast pace ending was incredibly stress inducing, but was fantastic and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I'm disappointed that the series is now complete, but Brutal Birthright was a wonderful final chapter. Keep in mind that this story is part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone novel.

Please make sure to check the trigger warnings before delving into Rowan and Oriana's story, as there are heavy themes including but not limited to strong language, knife play and degradation.

Stars what a book!✨@elliottroseauthor took me on an emotional rollercoaster while reading Brutal Birthright. This book was the crown jewel of the Nocturnal Hearts series! Elliott sure knows how to write excellent spice…Rowan of Nocturne is a wet dream come to life! (Dare I say hotter than Cassian?!🤭) *chefs kiss* 🙌🏻😮‍💨🥵

“You’re going to scream for me, my little faerie wh0re…No one else gets to hear your pleasure but me.”

This is Rowan and Ri’s story. The goddesses blessed (cursed?) Rowan with an affinity for war & fighting, making him protect the realm for the last 300 + years. Oriana (Ri) is a much younger fae, sister to Queen Ruby with an affinity for blades and she’s striving to be a part of the Astrals (an elite Royal Guard team). Her training takes place at Astracadia where Rowan was guilted into accepting a teaching position. Both Rowan and Ri struggle against their attraction to one another while having a teacher-student relationship.

“I want the kind of life you make me wish for, filled with long days in the sun, swimming in the ocean, and stargazing at night on a new moon. But most of all, I want you there with me. We could do all of those things, or none of them, and somehow I’d feel happiness like I’ve never been able to taste before.”

If you’re a fan of witches, fae, magic, great battles, epic love stories, and spicy romance, you’ll love Brutal Birthright, (and the whole Nocturnal Hearts series)!

Tropes:

✨ Enemies to Lovers
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ He’s her teacher
✨ Tattooed W*rlord MMC
✨ St^bby Fae FMC
✨ Academy for Supernaturals
✨ Forbidden Romance
✨ (Reluctant AF) Fated Mates

✨ Kn!ves as a love language

Thank you to the author for the eARC to review!

Additional note: I have not read the other books in the Nocturnal Hearts series, and this is the first book I've read by Elliott Rose. Let me say that I will be reading more of her work!

As I mentioned in my note above, this is the first book I have read by the author and the first book of the Nocturnal Hearts series that I have read so that I will be giving this review from the perspective of a first-time reader. This book is a standalone in an interconnected series of standalones, and I agree with that. There are enough details to help readers understand what previously transpired. At the end of this book, you will want to read the previous books because the storyline and the characters are just that good.

The plot is good, and the world-building is easy to follow. The characters, from the MMC, FMC, and the side characters, are well thought out and written very well. My only complaint is that the villain (I won't spoil who it is) gets off way too easily in my opinion. The build-up to the final battle was excellent. However, I wanted more action in the final battle and suffering *insert fire Elmo meme*.

Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. The author gives you all that tension and the passion that follows. It is steamy, the MMC and FMC are kinky, and there's a whole lot of pent-up sexual frustration. Read the TWs because they get it on in many different ways *wink wink nudge nudge*. The FMC, Oriana, is not a gentle girl and she doesn't like it gentle. Our MMC, Rowan, likes to be large and in charge and he is darn good at it.

4/5 stars; 4/5 spice because there's some kinky stuff in there but it's oh so good (look at the TW).

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

This is the 4th book in the Nocturnal Hearts series and can be read as a stand-alone, however there is interlocking and intertwined characters and plot. That being said, I haven’t read the previous 3 books in the series and still followed along and enjoyed this book a lot!! I will also be going back and reading the first three in the series 😉 This was also my first Elliot Rose read and she’s now on my list of favourite authors.

Rowan is everything we’re looking for in a grumpy MMC. The growling, the tattoos, the muscle, the touch her and die, and that dirty mouth … I mean DAMN!! He quickly became one of my new book boyfriends, thrown in he’s a witch 🫠🫠🫠 and I’m a goner. Then there’s Ri, she is FMC goals! Tough, feisty, takes no shit, and can fight!! Like, can I be Ri when I grow up??

I was drawn into this world right away, Elliott has a way of describing everything without it being too much or too overwhelming. The characters were well written and you connected with each of them on some level. I was immediately immersed into the story and while I didn’t read any of the previous books there was enough information in the plot that I wasn’t lost and new ex actor what was going on.

The tension between Rowan and Ri was palpable and you could feel the sexual draw almost immediately. The spice was *chefs kiss* and I couldn’t get enough of these two and all their kinky ways. If you’re into paranormal, age gap, witches, fae, magic, tattoo grumpy MMCs, strong FMC, fated mates, enemies to lovers, he’s her teacher, & degradation then this is a book for you.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review
