There is never a dull moment in Ruby Prairie, especially since young widow Charlotte Carter has opened Tanglewood, a pink Victorian refuge for troubled girls. Sixty-two-year-old massage therapist Treasure Evans comes to live at Tanglewood to help with another newcomer to Ruby Prairie, Jasper Jones. Packed with surprises, romances and a bit of trouble, A New Day at Tanglewood is sure to be an enjoyable read.
An enjoyable, quick read. I didn't read the previous book in this series but that didn't stop me from being able to follow along. I liked the characters, the setting and the story. But I especially appreciate the conflict and drama in the story that leads the reader to self-reflection, and presents us with examples of Godly behavior.
An enjoyable, well written book with characters I'd like to know. You can't help but hope everything works out for them. Ruby Prairie puts me in mind of Mitford, without the mountains. I hope to find more Annette Smith books to read.
I really like this series. I thought book #1 was a bit more interesting, or well-written. But this was good, and now I'll be reading book #3 in the series.
I can’t get enough of Annette Smith’s warm, southern writing. This story was humorous and touching (and absolutely heartbreaking at moments) and hard to put down. Looking forward to book three!
No day goes by in Ruby Prairie, Texas that passes without incident. If it isn't the twins up to something, it's the other four girls that seemingly team up to wear Charlotte out. But Treasure is moving in to Tanglewood, and thank goodness. There is always more than enough work to go around at this home for girls, and Charlotte Carter could never go it alone.
Charlotte's fifteen-year-old, Beth, is recovering from her escapades and misadventures with her boyfriend Kirby. But a new challenge lies on the horizon for all the residents of Tanglewood, and for all of Ruby Prairie. Will they all be able to cope with what the news will bring? Or will Charlotte loose the thing she loves the most - one of her precious girls?
The second book in the Coming Home to Ruby Prairie series was a wonderful read with all the humor, adventure, love and faith that Smith gave us in the first book. It's the kind of book you look forward to opening at the end of a long day with a tall glass of lemonade or iced tea.
This is the kind of story that reminds you that there are still little towns, with good people, left in the world. Where you can feel safe and loved, where you can be part of something bigger than yourself, a community. And all I can say is get these books. You won't regret it, and I promise you; the characters will not only grow in you but inspire your faith, and you will never forget them.
The second book in Smith's Ruby Prairie series, I enjoyed this one more than the first. It continues the story of Charlotte and her foster girls, but manages to make them seem more real and believable. The issues they have to deal with are serious, and hit home for me.
Annette Smith returns to the town of Ruby Prarie in A New Day at Tanglewood. She deftly dishes out another round of surprises, disappointments, and happy endings that bring warmth and comfort to her readers. It makes me long for a family reunion.
I liked the book overall. It had good character development. You felt like you knew the people of Ruby Prairie. There were quite a few unexpected twists throughout the whole book There were several in the last chapter.
