I love to write romance stories. I also have a day job with Medicare. I just wish I could quit my day job and write full time! I have so many stories rattling around in my head trying to take over my life that half the time I sound like a moron when I'm chatting with friends.

When I'm not writing I am spinning, knitting or reading. Fiber arts are a form of therapy for me, and while I'm spinning or knitting my characters talk to me. So if you look at a piece of my knitting and find an odd hole here and there, I was probably having an intense, private discussion with a werewolf while I was knitting that particular spot.

Also, I haven't read the first 4 in this series, so going at it from a stand-alone angle. Oh yeah, I don't normally read het romance any more and I usually shy away from the ones with kiddies in the mix. (I know my DMC friends are snickering at this last revelation, to which I pluck my tongue out at them and giggle along)

As far as the writing? Odd punctuation choices and typos, a little convoluted in some places and continuity issues. Lots of little inconsistencies, but it's readable and flows well for the most part.
World building, post-apocalypse you can write in whatever and blame it on the Terrorists. Women are scarce and highly sought after. Bride Fights are acceptable venues to win yourself a woman. Ha, ok, women are chattel, have no rights, and are very lucky if their families give a damn.
Do not laugh. I mean it. The Times Before, Terrible Times, Woman-Killer Plague, are just a few common terms.

Characters, lets start with Ellie. Ellie is a well behaved young lady, as the product of her times and her upbringing would dictate. She's obliging and defers to any show of strength, basking in the knowledge that a big strong man will soon come to save the day. Maybe. Hopefully. Well she prayed really hard for it, so she and her friends will just have to be manhandled and raped until her savior of choice (Taye) comes to the rescue, because it would be unseemly for her to join forces with the other women and save themselves.... who would protect them then!?
This snippit of conversation is taken from the very end of the book, Ellie is still so naive even after all that happens.
(Ellie's friend Rose) "I’m twenty-two! Whoever heard of a twenty-two-year-old virgin?”
“Back in the Times Before, wasn’t that pretty common?” Ellie asked.
“Not really. Plenty of women were still single at that age, but that didn’t mean they were virgins.”
Ellie blinked at that. If a woman wasn’t married, she had to be a virgin, didn’t she? If a man and woman slept together, they were married whether a ceremony was performed or not. Ellie suppressed a shudder, glad she hadn’t lived in the Times Before.
Yeah, she's not the brightest bulb.

Then we have Quill, our hero. Umm, he's a wolf, therefore likes to be naked a lot, loves kids. He's pretty and has a twisty, weird backstory. Random weird. =D

Side characters were much more interesting than the MC's, that the alpha wolf, Taye, who is Ellie's cousin, is the strongest character comes across loud and clear. While Ellie is supposed to be shifting from tragically in love with her dead husband to falling in love with her new mate, she spends an awful lot of time thinking about her cousin, this big strong protective alpha.... yeah he already had his book and I probably should have read it! From beginning to end she was pretty much all about Taye. His presence is hard to top (poor Quill). Mel and Sara at least gave a hint that not all the women in this post-apocalypse world are happy with/wanting to be oblivious, bare foot and preggers even though they each ended up with a wolf mate as well. Mel carries a sidearm and Sara is 16 with a weaponized tongue. I wouldn't mind reading their stories!

The romance. Well. Quill is a wolf, Ellie is his mate. He's really sweet and understanding, she is resigned to her fate with a chin up attitude? Oh go on, it's totally HEA! There's no ridiculous angst for no reason between them. They get along great, if it weren't for those darn woman thieves life would be just grand. Finding alone time on the trail has it's high's and lows once Quill and co. have rescued the damsels.

Now it sounds like I hated this book. I can't lie, I did. I really loathed it BUT however! Hear me out, these types of romance books have an audience obviously. I would suggest beginning with book one Sleeping With the Wolf and go from there, decide for yourself.

I've been going back and forth with myself over my rating for this book. I absolutely loved the first 80% of the book. The last 20% seemed unnecessary... or mabye it was just me. Also it was like she realized oh yea Ellie is supposed to be from a religious commune I'd better throw a bunch of religion in there at the end. As you can see, I'm torn over this review. I'd say 3 1/2 stars if we could, so I upped it since I liked majority of the book.

Enough of that... on to the review! So my first thoughts since I did not read any of the rest of the series is that this reminds me of a brainstorming exercise they would make us do in language arts in school. Imagine that terrorists wiped out most of the women leaving a ratio of 1 to 200 men, what would happen? I would say exactly what happens in this book. Bride fights, women stealers, women marrying young and remarrying soon after being widowed. Since I didn't read the first books I'm not exactly sure why they live like the wild west but I liked it.

As far as characters go Quill was my favorite. I can't say enough about how much I loved him! If I lived in this world I would say Quill is the perfect mate. Ellie I liked as well until she started with the religious internal dialog. I can understand why it was in the book due to her character profile but it just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book. I loved Jelly/Stone, Snake and Mel as well. Sara annoyed me at first and then she grew on me. I even liked Tommy and Connor! Seriously I loved the characters in this book and I think the whole concept is unique and I plan to read the rest of the series.

So... if you like shifter romances, western-type romances or are just looking for something different you'll like this book. Quill is sooo worth the read. :)

My favorite quote, I didn't want to add it to quotes and ruin the surprise!

The beginning half of the story kept my interest as it followed Ellie in her in her plight as she is sold to a bride fight. I can understand that there isn't much that she can do, but she seems too accepting of the situation she's in, in my point of view. I would of liked if she had a bit more of a feisty attitude, like her companion Sara, but not to the point of being as annoying as Sara was.
There are passing mentions of the world before the wars that brought down human society into this western style civilization, but since this is the first book I am reading out of the series I would of liked a brief intro that describes this current world.
After the bride fight and the retrieval of Ellie's son the story then concentrates on Ellie's and Quill's relationship. I liked that the author took some time to develop Ellie and Quill's relationship.
The kidnapping of Ellie was a bit predictable, but the plight of Quill was not and I liked that the author didn't make him into a stereotypical impervious to anything super hero.
All in all the story was good, but if it was a bit longer including more of the world that is left and growth of some relationships it would of made this story a bit better.

*side note: I get that Connor is her birth son, but I wished there was more of a Ellie and Tommy relationship. The connection is there at the end, but in the rest of the story it all seems to brief.

Quill's character is a divine lead. We last saw him in Glory's Wolf leaving so he didn't have to watch his mate marry another man. Returning now six years later and he finds her widowed and in trouble. I love how we see Quill place Ellie's needs and desires ahead of all else repeatedly. He isn't trying to impress, it is just his nature. His pure joy at finally having not only his beloved mate but an instant family of two young sons was beyond heartwarming.
Ellie impressed me greatly. She's gone from naive bouncy teen to a mature woman. Her struggles to come to terms with her attraction to Quill while still grieving over the loss of her husband are well done. The devotion to her son rings true.
This is an excellent addition to the series. I have enjoyed watching Maddy Barone's writing skill elevate with each of her books. Ellie's wolf is fabulous. I highly recommend the series.

This follows Quinn who found his mate 6 years ago in Ellie, but she was already promised to Neal Overdahl. Quinn couldn't bear not living near his mate while she was happily married to someone else so he went with Sky to Omaha. Flash forward and Ellie is a widow who was sold to traders for a Bride Fight by her husbands boss after she refused to marry him. Hoping her cousin Taye would come for her and her son, discovered that her letters to family have been burned. The traders sent a messenger to the Den and Quinn and several warriors came for her and to recover her son. Ellie being from this time was much more accepting of the re-marrying and the ways of these dystopian times. Neither character in this book was from the plane crash, and most of story was centered around the travels.

quill and Ellie

six years have past since the last book, Ellie was happily married with a two year old son when her husband suddenly dies, her employer asks for her hand in marriage over and over and she constantly refused him, so he sold her and kept her son, she gets a message out to her cousin the Alpha of the wolfe pack to come and rescued her, she is put as a bride in the bride fight, Quill has loved Ellie for the past six years, his wolf chose her for his mate the very first time he laid eyes on her, once he finds out she is in danger he rushed to the bride fight determined to win her, while Quill loves Ellie it's going to to take Ellie longer to fall in love with quill, before they set off home they have to go and rescue Ellie 's son, they are now a complete family unit with a extra child not much older than her own, they start the road home, varied things happen to them while travelling home, it gives Ellie time to fall in love with Quill,
I loved this book as much as I loved the last one, storytelling at its best.

This is Quill and Ellie's story . This one I have been waiting for and let me say it was so worth the wait !! Quill first met Ellie over 5 years ago at a Christmas Eve gathering . But she was in love with another , Neal . Ellie faces so much hardship and heartache that at times I wonder just how she coped with life . I love just how strong of a woman she is and just how devoted a mother !! When the chance comes for her to get revenge she is strong enough to do the right thing for herself . After the Crash series is a PNR but it is also so much more ! The way the Wolf Clan feels about ALL women is just wow ! Family is everything to the wolves and they have no problem protecting who and what they think is theirs or what is right . This is a well written and engaging book that I recommend to all . Well done Maddy Barone !!

Quill and Ellie

Really enjoyable book. It's not really about time travel or dystopian, it's more of a wolf shifters romance novel. Quill and Ellie is a storyline I've been wondering how Maddy Barone was going to make it work. Superb job!

I will be reading the rest of the series and I would definitely recommend this book to any adult. There are steamy scenes and mature content.

Cheesy ending, but still enjoyable

Overall a good addition to the series. I will admit during the ending I was singing "sexual healing" to myself. It made me chuckle if nothing else.

Couldn't find book 2 or 3. I've read Sleeping with the Wolf, Wolf's Oath, Sherry's Wolf and Eddie's Prize. I'm currently reading Ellie's Wolf. Since I'm still reading Ellie's Wolf, I became interested in Sarah and Stone aka Jelly's story. Is there a book for them?

I think it took me a couple of days to read almost all the book. I am simply addicted to all those amazing stories. I love Quill from the first book and was looking forward to reading about it. I was not disappointed. Great plot and story

Just plain silly. Ellis is a simp. There's no other way to put it. The other characters are more caricatures, and the plot is just an excuse for sex. Waste of time.

Ms. Barone's After the Crash series continues to entertain in this intense paranormal read set in a post-apocalyptic world where the line between the haves and have-nots has never been more obvious. Women are in short supply after a virus has killed off many of them and those without protectors are constantly in danger. Which is exactly what happens to Ellie after the death of her husband leaves her and her son in danger from a dangerously manipulative man who sells her to be part of a Bride Fight after she spurns his advances. Along the road towards the Bride Fight she befriends two other women who band together to keep each other safe while waiting for Ellie's savior to arrive. Ellie cared for her husband but was angry he took her away from friends and family. She's now desperate to save her son and it's a heart-pounding series of events leading up to her and the other ladies' rescue, along with the saving of her son. Ellie is a strong-willed woman not afraid to stand up for herself and those she cares about. Even as she's repeatedly put in danger due to the nefarious villains coming out of the woodwork she shows very little weakness and is definitely a heroine to admire. The relationship between her and Quill evolves slowly as the sexual tension strengthens through the close quarters they're put in as they travel to the safety Quill's kinsman represent. They take the time to get to know each other which makes their burgeoning relationship richer and more rewarding.

Quill and his kinsman are wolf-shifters who most know about and fear. It's been many years since he last saw Ellie and realized she was his mate, but he's still just as drawn to her and will do anything to now claim her. The Bride Fight is intense and bloody but he and his kinsman are willing and able to fight others to the death to save Ellie and the women she's come to think of as family. Their journey home is rife with danger and he comes close to death trying to keep Ellie safe. He's the perfect hero, sexy and caring, and impresses in both his human and wolf form. He's waited a long time for a family of his own and quickly endears himself to both Ellie, her son, and another boy they've saved in a way that wins the reader over too.

The relationship between Ellie and Quill is sweet yet sexy with numerous steamy encounters on their journey home. It's immensely satisfying seeing all of them work towards becoming a family as they work together keeping each other safe. The secondary relationship between Sara, the loud and sometimes obnoxious pampered young woman, and Stone is enjoyable to see as he relies on his kinsman for ways to woo which leads to much humor. The tough Mel who is more than capable of taking care of herself, after killing the previous man who tried to hurt her, is now joined to the gruff Snake who also has no idea how to win over a woman but refuses to leave her side as his actions speak louder than words in another relationship that left a smile on my face. Along with those secondary characters comes the emotionally/physically scarred Paint who's lost his mate but clearly deserves a HEA of his own as he's loyal and charming. The mysterious Rye, who has a surprising heart of gold, has a hand in saving Ellie more than once and it's hinted at that he could change the future. He has an interesting connection to someone of power and I hope to see him in future books as he has the power to make this post-apocalyptic world a better place for women and the poor.

Ms. Barone has created a vividly intriguing world where typical western life resides alongside the grittiness of city life. The overall feel of this story is of a western with laws that are modern and put women in the role of wife or prostitute. The big city is dangerous and full of disillusionment but is where radical change is just starting to bubble up through subtle civil disobedience. I've not read the previous books in this series but that in no way took away from my enjoyment of this story. The characters were well and fully developed, both primary and secondary, with a storyline that was action-packed but with a journey that went on just a bit too long. Fans of the paranormal will find this an entertaining and unique story and I look forward to the next installment of this series as we get one step closer to change.

My review:
I usually don't like to start a series in the middle of it, however, I really didn't mind with Ellie's Wolf by Maddy Barone. I didn't really feel like I was lost or missing out on the previous story line. Each book is written to be able to stand on it's own. Ms. Barone is has written a very clever story with a unique plot that has a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Ellie's Wolf is a definite page turner and difficult to put down.
Ellie endures so many hardships and I know I wouldn't be able to have been as strong as she. Ellie was determined, strong willed, and stubborn, and I really liked her. Ellie did what was needed to survive.

Quill Wolf was very easy to like, he was confident, loving, strong willed, and fought for what he believed in. Ellie and Quill were a great couple, they had excellent chemistry from the beginning. The villains in the story added mystery and hardship to the plot, and I really enjoyed how bad they were.
Now that I've started the After the Crash series, I have to read the rest of it.

The book takes place several years after the others in the series. Ellie, cousin to Taye, the Alpha of one of the Lakota Wolf Clan groups is now a widow. And her late husband's boss has sold her to Women Trader's, traveling merchants who deal in the buying and selling of women. She is being taken to be a prize in a bride fight. She has also been separated from her 3 year old son.

She and the 2 other women that are being taken as "prizes" are frightened, but Ellie knows that Taye will come and rescue her, especially since the new leader of the gang transporting the women has sent one of his men riding off as fast as possible to alert him to what has happened.

And that is when the "fun" starts (well, fun for the reader, since it's a rollicking good read.) Don't miss this series, it's very good. Ms. Barone has set her world up well and does her best to stay "true" to her own rules. Including the rule that going no one with half a brain in their head goes up against a group of were-wolves who are protecting their families.

I enjoyed this one for the most part. So here is the first story in the series which concerns a heroine who didn't arrive on the crashed plane from 2014. We met Ellie in earlier books before she married her husband. Now she is widowed and the guy whose wolf claimed her years ago is coming to rescue her. Lots of great characterizations all around. Liked the hero who had left her alone for 6 years even though he knew she was meant for him because she was happy with her husband.

I enjoyed this one. I read the last one, about Eddie and Lisa, and I was disappointed. Lisa drove me nuts, but I just plain didn't like Eddie until the very end. But with Ellie and Quill the author is back on track with characters who appeal to me. Quill was darn near perfect. I actually cried at one point when Quill was hurt but willing to sacrifice himself to save Ellie. Another thing I liked was learning why Sky was still in Omaha instead of courting his mate. Can't wait to read that one! Also really enjoyed Mel and Snake. Altogether a good story from a good writer.

The characters are fairly simple and unobtrusive. That sounds weird but it really allowed me to read the story as a whole and not focus too much on the nuances of each character.

I didn't read any of the previous books in this series, but I can definitely say this is readable all on its own. You do get to know some of the back story of the main character, and the other pertinent characters, but there could be more. That said, I think the book is fine the way it is. Without the hindrance of too many flashbacks, interludes, memories, etc, the story flows really well.

Great fun Series. Fun how such a simple series can become so addicting. Maddy Barone is original and fun to read. Not to long and not to short and just with the right amount of romance, hot scenes and not to forget hot sexy shifter men!

These books are fun as in-betweens but for us definitely worth waiting for!
