I proudly read this enormous book more than once as a seven-year-old. It had a huge influence on the structure of my morality for the next decade or so, with stories of hard work, perseverance, and compassion for others. The beautiful imagery also inspired my artistic side :)

Coco knew a couple of the stories already, but she loved hearing stories that taught a lesson.

Sometimes when my tweens/teen ask me what's for dinner (before I've even gotten out of the car), or start telling me what they think they need, or or the cacaphony of "mine mine mine" becomes deafening, I pull this gem off the shelf of books they're all too old for but I can't bear to give away and flip it open to an appropriate story and silently give them the book.

They're reading about the little red hen right now.

This is a fabulous book for reading to children! It has adorable illustrations and wonderful character building stories in it. It has everything from "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" to "The Little Red Hen" to ones I had never heard of before. Wholesome reading material for story time!
