In a parallel world of total darkness, Ky was a shining Star and a beacon of hope that the gods did not forget the human race. After her descent as a shooting star, she was stricken blind. Without the aid of chief warrior Cobaaron the Unconquerable, she had no chance of survival. When she regained her sight, she observed the cruel reality of her new surroundings.
Poised on the brink of extinction, most women were barren, corrupt morals flourished, and vicious beasts ruled the constant night. Evil stalked the land as wicked witches and the three depraved kings, powerful practitioners gifted in the dark arts, fought for supremacy.
But all was not lost; there was another twist in Ky’s fate. A prophecy foretold of a Star and a warrior restoring light and peace to the world. Boldly, Ky embraced the adventures and perils awaiting her.
This is a full-length novel (well over 95,000 words), and the first in the series.
Other books in this series include A Stolen Moment (Book II) and Rise of the Golden Age (Book III).
The only thing that made me keep reading was the unique concepts but there was just so much wrong about this book it became unbearable. Cobaaron and Ky both were all over the place emotionally. Cobaaron was constantly yelling at Ky for some reason or other. She'd cry and stammer and plead and then they're sort of okay. Then she does something else he doesn't like or agree with or understand and it's more of the same. At one point, one of the warriors that are under Cobaaron's command suggests that he beat her to get Ky in line. Wait, what?
Ky isn't much better and all hot and cold. I can certainly understand crying at her situation but sheesh. Speaking of, her status as a Star isn't explained all that well. She's glowing and her body is morphing to be more pleasing to Cobaaron for the bond and the same of him for her. Ky is 18 and says over and over that she doesn't want the bond or to be married at such a young age but three days later, that's all water under the bridge now that Cobaaron decides he wants her after all. Just sighs.
The emotional responses and reactions of the characters are odd and misused. The world building could use some improvement AND the contradictions of the world Ky now inhabits just need to stop. It was maddening reading this book, probably because I was rooting for it to just get better but sadly it did not.
