This respected text is based on the Functional Group approach. The text retains the outstanding problems, pedagogy, depth, and prose of the second edition while providing increased emphasis on molecular modeling, a core concept in organic chemistry.
this is a godawful textbook. a not so helpful review section, and long-winded paragraphs that cause me fall asleep many a time. why the hell did i bother buying this piece of shit?
I used the 4th edition when I was preparing for chemistry competitions back in 2008. I found it very helpful. It contained almost all the information I needed and I found it detailed enough. The section "Structure" could be expanded. I had to use different books, because the text in Carey's book was not good enough for me. But the sections on organic compounds properties are very good! I have recently started revising my knowledge of organic chemistry and now I use the 5th edition. I am equally satisfied
Read the first half. Although I liked Pearson's general chemistry text better than this, I have no other organic chemistry text to compare it to. I gave many examples and explained well. I didn't like that no answers were provided to the sample problems. They had to be purchased separately. I ended up using the ebook much more than the hard copy.
