“I don’t think I will ever be close enough to you. If it was possible, I would slip inside your skin and stay there forever.” -Sam
After a brutal attack, Kate Logan thought she could never trust another man again, until she met Sam Montgomery. Sam was like no one she had ever known before—beautiful, vivacious, and bold. In Sam, Kate found all she would ever need, want, or desire in a man, until she learned that the only thing worse than falling in love with her best friend was knowing nothing would ever come from it.
Sam Montgomery, a successful photographer and an occasional cross-dresser (yes, cross-dresser) lived his life out loud. He said what he wanted, dressed how he wanted, and did who he wanted. From the first time he laid his eyes on Kate, he knew he had to have her. Unfortunately, the only piece of her heart she was ready to give came tattooed with a ‘friends only’ stamp. He was willing to compromise his desires, but he never imagined he would fall head over heels in love with her. The hot temperatures weren’t the only thing blazing in Austin, Texas. After one steamy night together, Kate and Sam decided it was time to redefine their friendship. When Kate finally opens herself to all that they could share together, Sam couldn’t have been happier—until he realizes that perhaps the only way to cast away all of Kate’s inner demons was to walk away forever.
Yesterday is a dream, tomorrow is just a wish, and sometimes the present is paved with a trail of broken hearts.
This is the third book I have read where the hero is a transvestite. I wasn't sure about this book when I started it, the beginning is a bit slow, but it grew on me and I liked the story.
Kate meets Sam when he is dressed in drag. She feels safe with him when he is dressed as a woman and even though Sam is attracted to her he senses Kate just wants them to be friends so he spends six months always in drag around her until one night things change between them. It may have helped for the author to create another female name for Sam for when he was in drag as at times I was confused as to whether he was Sam the 'man' in certain scenes or Sam 'the woman'. For instance, in the first love scene between Sam and Kate it says 'Sam adjusted his shirt' so I was assuming he was Sam the man at this point but then later it mentioned his dress and I was actually a little shocked to find the sex scene was with him dressed as Sam the woman!
Once Sam and Kate embark on a relationship, it was very rare that Sam dressed in drag. I'm not sure this made sense considering it was something he liked to do. I'm sure transvestites in real life don't stop dressing up just because they are in love and in a relationship? The sex scenes were well written, nothing too erotic but definitely steamy.
I loved Sam, he was well written. I wasn't sure about Kate. Yes she has some issues from her past and she suffers with panic attacks but I didn't really take to her. I felt the author needed to explain in more detail about what happens to Kate near the end of the book as it seemed a bit glossed over. I also wasn't sure if Sam's decision at that time made sense after all they had been through and how much they loved each other.
The author explains at the end of the book that her Editor said the story feels unfinished. She was correct. The author is writing another book about Sam's friend Hannah and the mysterious Willow and it sounds like we will learn more about what happens with Sam and Kate in that book. However, I quite liked the ending, it was quite original. As for the Editor...the book didn't feel edited as it had some errors and a lot of missing words that distracted me at some points.
It sounds like I have only written about things I felt were wrong with the story but I did enjoy this book. I got it as a free download but I would have been happy to pay for it.
If you enjoyed 'Painted Faces' another story along this theme then I think you will enjoy Sam & Kate's story.
This book really surprised me. I read it in a day, however, it could take longer. This book just sucked me in to the story. However, I feel like I got cheated at the end. It was a toss between are they going to work it out and get married or not. Their sex was hot, I hate that he took off when she was in the hospital because he could not handle it.
I enjoyed the plot. its not your typical story so that helped. I think the last few chapters were rushed. I would have liked to read more about the emotions one would feel in a situation like theres. the ending was horrible. after everthing they went through it just felt so unrealistic. As a reader you want to relate to the character s however I was left with frustration. it was jot my cup of tea. hope she comes out with a second book otherwise I dont see good reviews in her future.
WOW, Totally Disappointed with this one. Really hated the ending. I could of been a little more comeplete. I understand about fininhing because of other characters but not like this. I ll still read the others when they come out. Writing was done well.
I was a little worried when I read the synopsis but its actually a very good read. I'm looking forward to reading the continuation with Horrible Hannah's story.
