Did your school encourage a life-long love of reading? Children who identify as readers are three times more likely to have good mental wellbeing. A reading culture that permeates a school can transform it into a space where reading is supported, encouraged, normalised and valued. Creating a Reading Culture in Primary and Secondary Schools will help teachers and librarians Drawing on the author's internationally-recognised experience in this field, this book will be essential reading for anyone looking to develop reading in schools.
Another brilliant book from Margaret Merga that should be required reading for all educators engaged with promoting reading within their institutions including library staff, teachers, support staff and senior management. Starting with why a whole school reading culture is important, the book explores how this can be implement through a range of research-supported practices and strategies. Other sections include stakeholder engagement, managing change, evaluation and reporting. A must for every school staff library!
It's not the most engaging subject nor beautifully written, but Marga is very clearly knowledgable and passionate about her subject, and there's a lot of really good research, information, and practical tips in here. I'm glad I read it.
Read this as part of a librarian book study. A very dense read, but lots of good data to use in the future in advocating for the library’s importance. Will keep it on hand for when I need it!
