Lucas King throws punches at men and one-night-stands at women. Two attributes in a man, Evelyn Buchanan hates.
He may be ripped, he may be rich and god knows we all know about the boxing fame, but frankly he’s just in the way at a desperate time in Evelyn’s life. The hotel she inherited is falling down. Customers won’t pay when the roof leaks, she can’t get the roof fixed without paying customers.
Lucas has his own problems. His reason for coming back to Apple Rock Falls needs to stay secret. But when every unattached girl in town is chasing him, along with most of the married moms, keeping in the shadows is hard.
What Lucas needs is a fake fiancé to put off the would-be suitors.
What Evelyn needs is good publicity to attract the clients...like an engagement to a famous boxer.
But don’t for one moment think she has any intention of getting carried off by that tattooed beefcake…
From one-million-copy bestselling author Suzy K. Quinn and New York Times acclaimed author Cath Quinn, Love Me Never is a funny, heart-warming tale of forced proximity in small-town America.
honestly, meh. my review will have minor spoilers, read at your own risk:
On the surface, this is a enemy-to-lovers, fake dating, other side of the track. Actually, on a deeper level, that's what it is too. idk, everything felt pretty surface level. i've been on a kick of reading enemy-to-lovers, and fake dating, contemporary romances and this just didn't really compare to most of them. it's not terrible and generally if you enjoy this trope, then you may still enjoy it. For me, it just came off as shallow. It's also probably because i fall in the neutral category when it comes to boxing, maybe neutral leaning positive, and the main character, Evelyn, hates boxing. which is fine i guess except she's as preachy about it as a stereotypical vegan is about meat and honestly it just annoyed me. Plus, there's no growth in this category. Actually, i dont think Evelyn really grows as a character as all. She doesn't like boxing at the beginning, makes no effort to understand it, and doesn't like boxing by the end and gets everything she wants without having to put any actual effort in or compromise herself at all. Sure, at the end she goes to the boxing match, but only because she now NEEDS him to win to take his money. Like she doesn't even hide her motive here, she legit is like "yeah i need you to win bc i changed my mind about needing the blood money". seriously, it's just ick. I wish at the end she realized how important boxing was to him and the others in Bad Apple, then chose to go to the match to support him even if she hates the sport. Or if she had a better reason to hate it, like more personal. ANYONE can hate boxing, why do i care about judge-y Evelyn? If her dad or uncle or whatever died in a boxing match, maybe, but nope, she doesn't like it. never will. apparently never will have to because Lucas decides he's done fighting because Evelyn is just that awesome i guess.
This turned into more of a rant. The book has some good parts, there are true gems in some of the descriptions and the fake dating was entertaining at first, but the ending just lost me.
If you want a book like this but better, I recommend Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. Now that's a enemy-to-lovers, fake dating romcom.
This is hands down one of the worst books I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading. I don’t expect that much from a Kindle Unlimited romance, but this book still found ways to disappoint me.
I have never read more flat and uninteresting characters, both main and secondary. They have zero redeeming qualities, no signs of character growth, and not even a shred of chemistry between each other. If you’re going to have characters this dull, at least throw your readers a bone with some spicy scenes! But no, 85% through the book, we get three paragraphs of an ABCFamily version of what should have been this book’s saving grace
If you’re anything like me, and burn through KU romance novels like there’s no tomorrow, do yourself a favor and skip this one. That witch-vampire-sea monster reverse harem you were about to read will be 1000% better than this.
Love Me Never was such a beautiful story to read and for me, a great palette cleanser from my usual choice of genre which is dark romance. I’m a sucker (pun intended) for romances with sex scenes in them. Those without them are boring and unrealistic. Don’t worry! There are plenty of steamy moments in Love Me Never, but there are very few authors that are able to write such dynamic characters along with a compelling plot that the reader doesn't need that constant physical intimacy that happens in so many romances, and instead thrives off Lucas and Evelyn’s emotional intimacy. Well done Suzy & Cath!
Every once in a while you want to read a book that will make u want to not put it down until the main characters do what u want them to do, dammit! ;o) This is that book. Lucas, a fighter who "grew up in the wrong part of town", comes home after becoming a champion. He's not going to the trailer park he grew up in, no, he's headed for the biggest n best hotel in town! Only now it's not! It's terribly run down, falling apart. Evelyn inherited the lodge and its cabins from her parents and she is working like crazy to restore it, her stepmother and stepsiblings having run it into the ground while she was in college. Good, good story if young love.
The story has a modern Cinderella trope. Evelyn has to deal daily with her step mother and brother and soon her step sister joins the party. The lodge is soon to be declared bankrupt and the only person working themself to the bone is Evelyn. Lucas comes back to town for an illegal fight. However, the ladies in town thinks he is looking for a wife. He's hounded wherever he goes. He decides to offer a fake engagement deal to Evelyn where they both win. This leads to some hilarity and small town camaraderie.
One would never expect the two, Evelyn and Lucas to actually fall in love because of their different personalities! I hate the stubbornness of Evelyn as she refused to accept help earlier although she accepted it when she reached the bottom line. It's a very good story.
Lovely story! The descriptions of the settings and characters really brings them to life. Wanda sounds a real character. I highly recommend this feel good love story. Can't wait to read more.
Exaggerated fairytale retelling in modern terms. It was over dramatised and under written.. Maybe more of a schitz creek than straight up Cinderella dnf
Thus was a very funny romance in a small town. They grew up in the same town but didn't know each other. When they met she hated him. He said good they could pretend to be engaged and keep the crazy woman away from him. Well true love spotted big time.
Loved reading a small town romance about Lucas a boxing champion falling in love with a mountain lodge heiress. I really enjoy reading a romance on a damsel in distress and comes in a hero to sort things out in her life.
This was a cutesy modern day (ish?) feeling fairytale rom-com that was overall an enjoyable read. Didn’t love Evelyn and her whining/self righteous attitude, Lucas was fun to read most of the time. I did enjoy the story but it felt rather superficial and quick.
I loved the Cinderella meets Bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks concept. The storyline kept me intrigued and laughing at some of the real life shenanigans I could relate too.
Cute. Super exaggerated - surely no one could be like Evelyn's stepmother and step siblings! - but if you don't take the book seriously, it's a fun and entertaining read.
