Falling for her protector

For single mother Abby Bauman, a failed marriage and a troublesome ex are proof of love gone wrong. But once she's caught up in danger and saved—twice—by take-charge detective Ethan James, she considers whether falling for a true-blue hero is worth the risk. Even now, after the rescue, he seems bent on continuing to protect her and her daughter. Why?

There's more to Ethan's determination to stay close than he's telling her. But when she confronts him, he proves she's more than a means to solve a case. That tempts Abby to take a second chance on trust—and love. Which might be the best choice she's ever made.

Willow Creek, Texas miniseries

This book left me with a smile. I really like Ethan's father language shazam! The plot had some nice twists, I guessed who the third man was pretty soon. Not all the motives though. The characters I loved especially all the minor ones. I hope we get to see some of them back in the other books of the series. Their was a few love scenes I skimmed over and one really dirty scene where they were covered in mud.

Abby is divorced mother with Chloe a three year old. She is running late because her ex called and said he could not take Chloe like he planned. Abby had to call her father for help with baby sitting. On her way to work she was frustrated and passed her exit and stopped in the middle of the road and was rear ended. She got off the phone and told the angry truck owner that she would meet him over by the bank to exchange information. The bank was in sight.

Ethan was on his way home after working all night to go spend time with his daughter he just got custody. He was not in the mood to be in a accident. He followed. as she was giving her name on a card & number the branch manager was about to unlock the door when two men jumped out and made them all go inside. It was a robbery.

The bank robbers heard sirens and they grabbed Abby and were forcing her into their van. Ethan said why don't they take him instead of her and they made both get in. Ethan and Abby were calm. Hours later they were taken inside a rundown cabin in the middle of nowhere. Ethan heard the bank robbers one of them wanted to take Abby with them. Ethan got him and Abby out of a broken window and they ran into the woods. They hid by a down tree. After awhile the bank robbers left them in 102 heat with no water. They started walking out.

Ethan is a detective working homicides. His partner and another friend a cop started working the case. They informed their families that they were kidnapped.

Ethan lived with his dad Walt on a ranch with his twelve year old daughter that he was just getting to know Kelsey. Walt is trying to clean up his language calling people baboons, shih Tzu ect. Kelsey is behind in school. She has never been in one school for a whole year. She is angry and scared at the new changes.

Abby is close to her father Everett but does not get along with her stepmom Gayle. She has never spent a night over at their new house. When ever Abby calls her dad to babysit it causes problems with Gayle. But Everett loves to see his granddaughter and Abby.

Some of the characters you don't like at first but the more you know the more you like them. The bank robbery and kidnapping made changes in a lot of ways to the people around them. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley.

Full disclosure: I received this book free from NetGalley for an honest review.

To start with, this did not begin how I expected, it was better! I picked this one because I'm a sap and love romances, (Thus my stalking of the Harlequin archives) but it's more than that. It opens with a big BANG and plenty of action.
The story follows Ethan and Abby, both single parents scared by the other parent of their child. Neither are looking for anything, so the tension fizzles between them from the very beginning, but not in a good way! I loved watching them tear the walls down from each other as they struggle to survive and get themselves out of the sticky situation they found themselves in.
But the sticky situation turns out to be a big scheme... I won't say more because I don't want to give out any spoilers. But I loved Ethan's fight. He's one determined guy! And Abby is so real. I think in her shoes I'd do the same thing. I even stopped to hug my own toddler several times while reading.
I enjoyed this very much and at times couldn't stop reading. I am looking forward to the next installment.

Despite the really lame title, I really enjoyed this book. I have a love hate relationship with romance novels. I dislike them in general, they are so unrealistic and over dramatic. A friend lent me this one to read, and I actually ended up being surprised. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and the story focused more on the plot than imaginary sex! So overall it was a decent, quick read.

This was such a riveting read I couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover, finishing at 5am, just 1.5 hours before my alarm goes off to get up for work.

Very good book. Abby and Ethan meet when she causes him to rear-end her car. When they meet at the bank where she works to exchange information they end up in the middle of a bank robbery. They are taken hostage, then escape only to end up in the middle of a wildfire. All the danger they are going through causes them to form a strong bond, but neither is in a good place to start a relationship. They part ways only to be brought together again and again by Ethan's investigation of the robbery. There's something strange going on there and Ethan wants to get to the bottom of it.

I really liked both Abby and Ethan. Abby divorced her husband when she discovered he was cheating on her. She refuses to take any of his money but has no choice but to allow him visitation with their daughter Chloe. Doug has a bad habit of bailing out of his visitations putting more stress on Abby. On this day he had done the same thing causing Abby to run late for work. She notices Ethan's good looks and the zing she feels when she sees him but is in no mood to pursue it. When they end up taken hostage together she finds his calm, take charge manner both frustrating and reassuring. As they work together to escape the robbers and then the wildfire Abby finds herself more and more attracted to Ethan. He makes her feel things she had never felt before. He also does great things for the confidence that had been shredded by her ex-husband. After they are rescued she doesn't expect to see him again and is happy when she does. I loved the way that Ethan gave her the confidence to stand up to her ex, who is desperately trying to get Abby to come back to him and give him another chance. I really liked seeing how her time with Ethan gave her the confidence to mend her relationship with her stepmother and to stand up to her ex's manipulations. She confesses her love to Ethan but is hurt by what she sees as his putting his job before their love. She did a good amount of growing up in this book as she learned when to stand on her own and when to let someone help her. I loved the ending with the revelation of who was behind the robbery and why it was done.

Ethan is not having a good day. He was up all night working on a case and is late getting home to take his daughter riding. He wasn't happy about Abby's causing of the accident and is pretty rude to her because of it. When the robbery happens and they are taken hostage his cop training takes over and he takes charge of their safety. I loved seeing him fight the attraction while not being able to stay away. Even after their rescue he isn't able to get Abby out of his mind. Ethan is also trying to get to know his twelve year old daughter who he just got custody of. I loved seeing him try to cope with various issues. I also enjoyed his relationship with his dad, who is trying to follow Ethan's ban on cursing around Kelsey. His replacement words are really funny. As Ethan gets more involved with trying to solve the robbery he also gets in deeper with Abby. He is reluctant to pursue a relationship because he wants to concentrate on Kelsey but he can't help it. He is determined to solve the case of the robbery but also discovers that he is losing his objectivity as he gets more deeply involved in the case. I loved his persistence and the way he finally figured it out. Then all he has to do is find the courage to reach for a future with Abby.

The action in the book was intense from the beginning. Between the robbery and the fire I just couldn't read fast enough. I had my suspicions about the bad guy early on, but the motivation wasn't really clear until the end. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, from Kelsey's rebelliousness and turnaround to Ethan's dad's help with her. I also liked the story with Abby's stepmother and the way that Abby and Gayle finally began to relate. I'm also looking forward to the stories for Ethan's friends Carson and Levi.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It has a bit of everything, but it’s balanced well. We get the views of Abby, Ethan, both of their parents, and Ethan’s daughter. It goes back and forth between the characters thoughts, the events happening to them and it is done very good. The story flows and didn’t feel choppy. I liked the fact that along with the romance and angst that went along with that, there was also action, danger, and mystery. The interpersonal dynamics within each family was explained but not overdone. I particularly liked the funny ways/words Ethan’s dad tried to not cuss around his granddaughter.

Both Ethan and Abby has issues to deal with, both personal and familial issues. Some of these are talked about between the two as they try to get out of the woods with their lives. They are drawn to each other and struggling for survival both helps that along and keeps it from developing. The night they spend on the front porch of an abandoned cabin was as steamy as the hot summer night.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a good CR with just enough action and angst.

This is a interesting story. For how these 2 meet is what makes the story. Abby works for the bank and Ethan is a cop. Now does that give you a clue what the plot could be about. What I enjoyed about this story is the way Linda drew on the strength on each other. For they were in a bad situation and they only had each other. Its well written and has great plot. It may have been written a long time ago but I would read it again. Its worth a reread. Its about the inner strength a person has. How they keep going despite the odds against them. Will love the plot in this story. It has many twists in it and it keeps you guessing. What you find out in the end will really surprise you. Its a great book and I will keep looking for more of her gems. J

A Texas Hero is the first book in the Willow Creek, Texas series by Linda Warren. This was a great start to what I believe will be a great series! I can not wait for the next books in this series.

Abby Bauman is running late, once again, thanks to her ex-husband. It isn't enough that he cheated on her, but he continues to put their daughter on the back burner. He will do anything to impress his father and make partner of the family business - everyone else is an afterthought. While venting to her best friend on the way to her job at the bank she realizes she missed her exit and slams on the breaks only to be hit from behind. She quickly tells the driver of the oversized truck to follow her to the bank and they can exchange information there, but nothing goes as planned. Unlocking the bank for the day, 2 men force Abby into the bank and rob her at gunpoint, they then force her into the van taking her as a hostage. The super sexy guy that hit her insists that he is a better hostage and tells them to leave her behind. The robbers take them both and what follows is an adventure worthy of a blockbuster movie.

Ethan James is not having a good day. He's a new daddy to a 12 year old belligerent, angry daughter that he didn't know about. He finally talked her into going horseback riding with him and now he's going to let her down like every other adult in her life. Yes, he's being held captive in a cabin in the woods, but he's still letting her down. When the robbers were forcing Abby into the van he knew he had to step in. Yes, he's off duty, but is a detective ever really off duty? At the same time, Abby impresses him with her calm control and annoys the hell out of him with her chatter and questions. It annoys him even more that he has to keep reminding himself that you don't ever get personally involved with the victims of a case. Surely, it's the dehydration and third degree burns causing the sparks between them.

"All I know is that my heart doesn't truly beat until I see you, until I'm with you. That has to be love because I've never felt it for anyone else."

This book was bite your nails amazing! The things that Ethan and Abby have to go through to make it out alive was filled with all kinds of hair raising moments. The way that Ms. Warren dealt with the whole subject of falling in love with the hero who saved your life and falling in love with the woman you saved was believable and well done. I loved how everything wasn't "happy ever after" right away. The kids didn't become best friends overnight and they didn't become an instant family. It was very real and plausible.

Thank you so much to NetGalley.com for the loan of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book tell the story of Abby who was rushing to work, crashed her car into Ethan. Abby signalled him to follow her back to her office to discuss. While they were discussing and the Bank’s branch manager was opening the door, the robbers approached them and took Abby as the hostage. Being a Homicide Detective, Ethan offered himself as replacement but he too was taken along by the robbers instead. They were taken to a rundown place middle of nowhere. The robbers were planning to drop off Ethan and continue their journey with Abby. Knowing this, Ethan know they have t escape and when they make a brief stopover, he together with Abby finally make their escape. However, as they are in a middle of nowhere, they have to survive hardship under the heat without water but they are determine to stay alive no matter what. Meanwhile, both Abby’ and Ethan’s father are worried sick with their safety and at the same time have to dealt with the former husband and the daughter respectively.

I like both the main characters. Abby was married to the heir of a Banking empire; but divorced him when she caught him having an affair with his staff. Though she may not need to work with the alimony she received, she is determined to provide for herself and daughter. Ethan, on the other hand, is a serious guy. Recently being dumped with a teenage daughter, he is struggling to raise her. But he has no idea how to raise a teenage girl who is striving to make his life hell. I admired both Abby and Ethan’s determination in this instance. The story from the beginning is pretty intense and I could hardly put down the book and it continues with the mystery of whom behind the robbery. I will not put it here about who is the mastermind in the robbery but be prepared for a twist in the ending.

This is a very fast paced, kept you on your toes until you read the very last page kind of book! To say this book has it all and more is an understatement. We have a car accident that leads to a chance meeting between two strangers which leads to a bank robbery and then a kidnapping. From there we have two people who both need to get back to their children and are lost with no water in the Texas heat. Add to that a deadly fire, child custody, and an attempted murder, well how can this romance go wrong?

Most books don’t have near as much going on in their plots. Yet Ms. Warren not only made it work but made it into one impressive story. This book is a perfect blend of suspense and romance as well as characters that will touch your heart. A perfect story for these steamy hot summer days, I totally recommend you pick this up today. Now I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out!

This book was a mixed reaction for me. I wanted to like it so much. I loved what the blurb and the excerpt I read had going for it. Then I read the first 75 or so pages and wanted to put it down - the writing was not working for me and the suspense story stretched my sense of the credible. But I kept reading, and it got better for a while. The challenges that make up the middle of the plot pulled at my heartstrings. We see many of the characters grow and change throughout the book. I loved the kids and how their stories developed and intersected. Then we got to the end third and I was again a little disappointed. I think I wanted to see more of the Abby and Ethan together after the suspense of the opening of the book - when life settled back to normal again. I think some of the end of the plot was a little hard to believe and moved very fast - as if there was just a little too much crammed into this book and not enough time to develop all of the various plot lines.

It was so not her day. Her ex was late. So Abby Bauman asked her father to watch Chloe. Then she had a fender bender. Her morning had not even started when two men pulled up and robbed the bank. To make her day perfect, she along with Ethan James were taken hostage to an unknown location.

Traumatic circumstances bring unlikely people together. That's the case when bank teller meets hunky man of action who will put his life on the line. Now if they can free themselves without ending up dead, these two just may find their chance at happiness.

Many heroes go about their daily routine with nary an acknowledgement. These are the true heroes for they do not need ribbons, medals or certificates. To them saving a life is thank you enough and a good day. For Abby, a thank you just was not enough.

Reading this reminded me why Linda Warren is by far a very favorite author of mine. I laughed, cried, felt the hurt and was angry at certain characters in the story, but thoroughly enjoyed the entire book.

I am glad there are 2 more books in this series I will be able to read when I can relax and totally lose myself in them-don't like to postpone them but with activities of next few weeks it is a must.

If you have never read any books by Linda please find a copy, and I suggest starting with this book!

This was a lot more complex than I thought it would be! That's a good thing! It was a great book, great characters, a lot of suspense, and I never saw that ending coming!!! That almost never happens!

My only complaint was that it was a bit long. It felt like it concluded a few times and I looked and there was so much book left to go. I started just wanting it to end.

This is the story about how Ethan and Abby met; it is filled with suspense and romance. Ethan and Abby are single parents trying their best to raise their daughter’s right. Ethan is a detective and Abby is working at the bank, after her marriage failed, she was trying to make a life for herself and her daughter. They meet by accident and it leads to an amazing, breathtaking and sometime frightening story.

I completely appreciated the story; the storyline was different and unique. The characters were all easy to follow, I felt like I was right there in the story. The loved the deeper meanings you could find in the story. An amazing story, a must read!!

A Texas Hero,

This book surprised me; first it’s a super romance, which I really do notlike to read. But it was a gift for Christmas from my sister, so I starting reading it and just couldn't put it down. Starts off with a lady stopping in the middle of the road and gets rear ended by a cop, next a robbery and then a kidnapping, and get just keeps getting better and better. Lots of action, great characters, and awesome read.

Interesting storyline. About a woman (Abby) trying to make it on her own with her 3 year old daughter after her divorce. She ends up being kidnapped as well as a detective (Ethan) who happen to be at the bank due to a fender bender they had with each other. Ethan not only saves her but also ends up protecting her from a person he figures out, is the one behind everything that has been going wrong. And also there is the usual attraction they end up having for each other. Very good book!!!
