Real #4

Rogue

Rate this book
The fourth story in the new adult series that began with the New York Times bestseller Real, featuring Brooke's best friend, Melanie, and the ROGUE she can't resist.

Greyson King...
My boyfriend. My friend. My protector. He's the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, and the reason I fall asleep limp, worn out, and aching for his warm arms around me. When we make love, he says my name like it means something. Like I mean something.
He
Lied.
His name is Greyson King, but his alias is Zero.
There's zero trace of him, he has zero past, and now I know that with him, I will have zero future.
He may leave no trace of him anywhere, but his imprint is in me, in my very soul--and I hate that a mere look at him commands the beat of my heart. The temperature of my body.
I've looked for love my entire life. I've waited for the butterflies, the rainbows...
Instead I'm in a free fall of emotions and there's no one to catch me but the one man I should be running away from. The one man I thought was my prince charming.
Except this prince charming went rogue.
Greyson will stop at nothing to make me be with him. He'll let no one stand in our way, will allow no one to threaten me, and maybe this is what scares me most of all...
What will my rogue do to keep me?

It has been quite a while since I read any of the earlier books in this series, so I was worried that the details would be hazy. Fortunately, everything that I needed to know came back to me without having to go back and re-read any of the earlier books. Since this book focuses on the story of Brooke's best friend, Melanie, versus continuing the story of Remy and Brooke, it could probably even be read as a stand-alone. Having read the earlier books was helpful, in that it provided some background, but not necessary to enjoy this book.

Melanie meets Greyson one rainy day and the two immediately hit it off. Unbeknownst to Melanie, Greyson has had his eye on her for quite some time, and not with the purest of intentions. Their chance meeting throws both their world into a tailspin.

As a couple, these two seem doomed from the start. They're both keeping some pretty big secrets from each other. Despite their attraction, I was holding my breath for the greater part of the book, waiting for things to fall apart.

One thing that really surprised me with this book was the way that Ms. Evans was able to endear Melanie to readers. She wasn't the most likable character in earlier books. Looking for love in all the wrong places, she was also sleeping her way through the male population of Washington. Yet, despite her flaws, Ms. Evans was able to make her appealing to readers.

Although the storyline was predictable, it was well-written and enjoyable. I liked the characters and the story held my interest. The narration was great on the Audible version as well.

I give it 4 stars. It was fun. It was sexy. It was a good choice.

A 3 star rating from me means bottom line, I liked the book. As the ratings above show, I really liked both main characters, there were plenty of steamy scenes, the story was a bit mediocre, and the writing and editing was a dismal failure. Nevertheless, this book was a huge improvement compared to the first three books in the series and I’d recommend it so long as you’re not put off by weird writing and poor grammar. Can be read as a standalone.

*******************

This book is about Melanie, Brooke’s fun-loving and loyal friend. A hopeless romantic and dreamer, Melanie is forever cheerful, bubbly, and positive. No one would guess that behind her smile and laughter lays a layer of insecurity and vulnerability. Leaving a trail of one-night stands and random hookups, Melanie yearns to find ‘the one’ who’d love her fiercely and passionately like the way Remy loves Brooke. On a night like any other, what was supposed to be a casual night out takes a wild turn and she crosses paths with Greyson.

Dark, deadly, and dangerous, Greyson is the ‘king of the Underground,’ an organization that helps set up fighting events and in charge of gambling bouts associated with the fights. Originally retired, Greyson (Underground name ‘Zero’) is forced into collecting unpaid debts by his father in order to get him to reveal a secret he’s been trying to uncover for the past decade. On the same night Melanie is out, Greyson rescues her from an unsavory situation and their attraction is immediate. Their connection crackles with lust and they proceed to have a filthy, hot, and sensual night. Both of them internally realize that there’s something more to their connection than just sex, especially Greyson. Raised in the harsh Underground environment, he’s long shut out his feelings but somehow this bubbly blonde brings out emotions that have never surfaced before.

description

But what the reader knows and Melanie doesn’t know is that Greyson’s had his eye on her for a while now: With Greyson busy collecting unpaid debts, he and Melanie struggle to make their relationship work but neither are willing to give up because they recognize that there’s something good when they’re together.

It is rare for me to love both main characters but Katy Evans managed to accomplish that feat here. I read about so many tough and kickass heroines that Melanie was such a breath of fresh air. Somehow, she’s both unguarded yet resilient; it’s really impossible to not find her endearing on some level. She’s the kind of girl who you’d love to be best friends with.

Though the complete opposite, Greyson was also a lovable character. His world is a lot darker and intense than Melanie’s yet he doesn’t let the bad knock him down. All the time Underground cut off his freedom to live and experience life, and being with Melanie makes him feel relaxed, free, and hopeful.

description

However, it isn’t too long before Melanie figures out there’s much more about Greyson than meets the eye and struggles to decide if pursuing a relationship with him is really worth it. If it’s worth sticking around to see if he’s ‘the one.’

*******************

Compared to the first three books, this one is the best. First, there’s an actual plot (in Remy and Brooke’s books, the plot was basically sexual tension elongated for 200+ pages). The likable characters are a bonus but there are still plot holes present, though not important enough to break the book flow.

At this point, this book could’ve been an easy 3.5-4 star read but the choppy writing style and frequent grammatical errors present annoyed me enough to dock stars. Usually I can overlook both facts if the story is good, but in this case, the story is pretty mediocre. I have to point out that for a traditionally published book that costs over $8 (including tax), I expect high book quality. Sadly, that was not the case here.

Writing style: First, what is up with all the CAPS? Using CAPS too many times for emphasis is just overkill and every time I saw a word or phrase, or an entire sentence all capitalized I wanted to tear my hair out. To me, this is bad and lazy storytelling. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF I TALKED TO YOU LIKE THIS HUH?! HOPE YOU LOVE THE FEELING CUZ I DON’T! And then there were times where the characters would say something that completely didn’t fit with who they were – it made them sound childish and immature, especially Melanie. Lastly, this author likes to hyperbolize her words – exaggerates them – to the infinite degree (see what I did there?) and when there’s obviously a much easier way to say something, she adds in a complex word for the sake of complexity and not because it’s part of the natural book flow.

Grammatical errors: I’m going to be blunt. Whoever edited this book did a shitty job because if I’m jolted out of the story every 10 minutes or so because of a blatant grammatical error, I’m bound to be pissed and not fully invested in the book. Comma misuse, run-on sentences, repetitive word use, etc… are all present.

And as a side note, when many sentences have ‘……..’ it sort of conveys an incomplete thought and I’m just left hanging there….yeah….  see what I did? ;)

Grammar and writing style aside, this book was a decent read and much better (at least for me) than Brooke and Remy’s books. I think hardcore fans of this series will enjoy this book and if you haven’t read this series yet but you’re interested in this book, I recommend skipping the first three books and diving right into this one!

I really don't know how to review this without sounding like a judgy bitch but I'll try.

So I did enjoy this one especially since I was reading with two of the coolest chicas on Goodreads--Feifei and J! Knowing Katy Evans, I knew I was in for a ride, so I decided to just enjoy myself going into this book. No expectations whatsoever. And I succeeded. For the most part.

Plot

The Good

There is one.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Grey is the heir apparent of his father's empire--the empire being the Underground. But before he gives the keys of the kingdom to Grey, he must prove himself worthy by "collecting" debts owed to the Underground by 48 personalities, including Melanie. See the conflict here? It's actually a good plot.

The Bad

It wasn't that developed.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And there were plot holes galore. And my stupid brain just can't wrap itself around some of them.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The Characters

The Good

Melanie and Grey were likeable.I really liked them both.

Melanie is an airhead and makes no apologies for it.I actually appreciate that because there is nothing more annoying than a heroine who's all "I'm-tough-I-don't-need-a-man" but instantly falls in lust/love with the hero 10 pages into the book. At least Melanie was honest that she wants to find her prince and is willing to kiss a million frogs to find him.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Grey is hot. Of course. But he's also sweet and I really liked him. I think he's a lot more developed than Remy (although not by a lot) but still I enjoyed his character. It helped that he wasn't into kinky shit like licking, ear fucking or obsessed with his cum. Eww!

BUTT...he's into ass-fingering.

“Do you want to get ass-fingered, princess?” he whispered in my ear. *shudder*

Despite that I actually liked him and enjoyed his POV the most.

The Bad

But because Melanie was portrayed as an airhead, there were a lot of facepalm moments involving Melanie. Like JESUS CHRIST, I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE FELL FOR THAT kind of facepalm moments.

And Grey has his moments too.

The Writing

Well, I'm afraid this is where it gets dicey for me. Frankly, had this been decently edited, I would have rated this a solid four. While she did try to tone down her crazy hyperbolic writing, more than a few of them still went through.

I learned whatever there was to learn, multiplied by the billionth power. Yeah. Sure.

They’re an indecipherable color, but it’s not the color, it’s the stare, the incredible shine.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

God, this is as intimate as it gets with a man and I cannot relax, I cannot oxygenate, I cannot formulate a thought. *sigh*

I swear her smile shoots straight up to my head like an upside-down thunderbolt.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And then there are sentences that just left me shaking my head.

Usually men are just . . . guys to me. Not even human. More like enemies that must be handled with care. ---> Yeah, 'cause clearly, since they're your enemies they're not humans either. Amirite?

I suck on his nipple ring. God, how I love this ringed nipple. The groan that follows my sucks.---> There would at least be an 'and' in there for this to make sense.

The scent of him dizzying me, while my eyes can’t see him and feel starved.-->I'm guessing she means his scent makes her hungry but this sentence doesn't convey that.

Which is fine, because our friendship itself has never broken.-->Never broken what?

Looking at Brooke, his smile flashes two sexy dimples at her, making her forgive the transgression, and I swear I’m almost dead. ---> I.Dead.

I know the author wants to convey the "emotions" in her words but last time I checked, syntax is important too. You just can't put words in there because it sounds pretty or cool or hot.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And then there's the punctuation mishaps, as I'd like to call them, happening throughout the book. It seems to me like KE hates periods but loves exclamation points and commas so much she smothered her sentences with them.

Which brings us to another POINT. Capitalizing letters to make a point is annoying. Yeah, yeah. It's not wrong to use them but there is such thing as overkill.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And the ellipses. Jesus. I've never seen those little buggers being utilized as much it did in this book.

It was distracting. And considering the price for this book, I was expecting near flawless editing. Maybe Gallery books want to preserve KE's "writing style" by not editing it to death, but reading this becomes a chore with all these "quirks" littering her prose.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Fortunately, I did enjoy this. I really did. There were moments where I can see why Ms. Evans had such a loyal following.

“Because you fell for me, you fell for me and all my bullshit, and even with everything I just said, you’re still falling, aren’t you,” he rasps. He kisses the back of my ear. “I’m right here to catch you.” He kisses the back of my ear, harder. “Let me catch you.”

“You are so fucking mine you don’t even know how mine you are.”

Oh, yeah, she’ll definitely be the end of me.
“I thought we said no majesty jokes.”
“It wasn’t a joke,” she counters. Then she adds, “Grey?”
“Yeah?”
“I knew you’d call. This is why I’ll never sell the necklace.”
“I’ll always call, necklace or no necklace. Let it go, baby, and I’ll give you something better.”
--->See? Banter. Yay!

It's lines like those posted above that makes me think that if Katy Evans can reel in some of her crazy-ass imagery, learn proper syntax, she's only going to get better at this.

And if she finds another editor.

Thanks to Feifei and J for reading this with me. I had a blast! Sorry for being such a slowpoke. LOL!

4--THE LOOK--Stars!!

I was hesitant to read this one after all of the scenting and licking I heard about from books 2 and 3. But this one ended up being pretty good. If nothing else, it was HOT.

“For me, this is a fantasy. You're the fantasy. For you, this will be a mistake. A long, pleasurable mistake.”

Melanie's dating life has consisted of one one-night stand after the other. She thinks that's all she deserves, that that's all she'll ever have, that no guy will give her THE LOOK.

You know, the one that says you're mine. That says I have to have you. That screams I'll do anything to get you.

One night when Melanie is leaving a club to save her car from the rain she meets Greyson. And Greyson gives her THE LOOK. But Greyson is a bad man. He does bad things. And it wasn't a coincidence that Greyson meets Melanie.

"I'm not the man of your dreams, Melanie, I'm your worst nightmare."

Greyson shouldn't be with Melanie. She deserves someone better. Melanie is a distraction that Greyson doesn't need. He has a job to complete. Names to mark off a list.

But Greyson can't deny the sexual attraction that he has for Melanie. The steam factor in this book was definitely high.

What happens when Melanie discovers who Greyson really is? Will Greyson ever be able to give himself completely to Melanie or will his past and present obligations get in the way?

"You may be a zero in your world....but you're everything to me.

I thought both of the MCs were pretty good. Some of the dialogue was a bit OTT and were things that I am pretty sure no one says to each other. The story line itself had some dark undertones, which was a pleasant surprise. It was low angst and drama. OVerall, an easy entertaining read.

Title:Rogue
Series:Real #4
Author:Katy Evans
Release date: July 29, 2014
Rating:4 stars
Cliffhanger:No
HEA:

Rogue isn't the story about Prince Charming finding his Cinderella and riding off into the sunset together.

It's about the "King of the Underground". A man who's about to inherit a dark world that he wants no part of. In his world, he's known as Zero. The son of the Underground's owner and collector of debts by any means necessary. He was taken away from his mother at the age of 12 by his father who controls everyone and everything around him. And he's gone along with everything asked of him-he had no choice. In the dark place he inhabits, it's kill or be killed. And as much as he despises what's he's become he has one ray of light giving him hope for the future. Discovering the location of his mother. And if he stops playing the game, his father will never give him the one thing that allows him to cling to his humanity. His one last task before his father dies is to collect all the debts off the list he's given or else that hope is lost. He has no room in his life for a passion, an obsession for one woman. But that's exactly what he gets.

"In my line of work distractions don't go well."
"Is that what I am? A distraction?"
"You're my fucking obsession. Not even a fantasy anymore. You're going to be the death of me, princess, and I don't give a shit anymore. I just don't want to be the death of you."

One of things I liked about him was how completely and totally drawn to her he was despite his head telling him it was impossible. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't rid himself of his desperation for her.

He was so captivated by her, yet the emotions she stirred could be nothing less than dangerous. She was a weakness he couldn't afford.

I had two emotions in my life before I met her, anger and detachment. Now she's given me ten more. Lust, frustration, concern...even joy. I have never, ever wanted anything the way I want those green eyes to memorize me the way I've made it a religion to memorize her.

Melanie...she wasn't the brightest bulb in the box, but she was strong, resilient, and but I think a lot of women can identify with some aspects of her character. With her need to be loved, to be accepted, and to find that "one" that will make her life complete. The problem is, she's looking in all the wrong places and in all the wrong ways. She's the party girl, the fun one, but after the party is over, they don't stay to get acquainted. She never seems to be good enough for forever.

Everything about Greyson screams at her that he's different. That he values her and sees her as special for once. She ignores all the signs that point to him being dishonest and secretive. Because what they have is unimaginably good and she can't give him up.

Every touch, every whisper, everything I share of myself with him feels so right; like an electric wire plugged into the right socket, I feel a new life force flow in me, almost euphoria.

Despite the fact that there was poor, poor editing (despite the steep price), inconsistencies resulting in a few WTF? moments...I decided on a four star rating for two reasons. First of all, for the steaming HOT passion between the two MCs. Every single scene I ate up and devoured-LOVED it. They were intense, and I have to give Katy Evans props for her excellent writing ability in that area. The other thing that swayed my rating was the fact that from start to finish, despite my issues that I had with several factors, I was completely invested in the outcome of the story from beginning to end. Even though things annoyed me at times, I was never bored and I cared about what happened to the characters. I might be being generous, but based purely on the enjoyment factor? I can't complain too much. I rooted for this bad man and good time girl to find their way to each other.

Sorry to re-post this old review, but I just noticed that GR jacked up my review and it disappeared and said I hadn't read this. Wankers.

4 to 4.5 Stars

I really liked this...Greyson was a really great lead. Possessive, alpha, borderline psycho (which I always love)...and I actually liked Melanie in this more than I liked Brooke in book #1!

description

Being that I figured she would annoy the shit out of me based on her characterization in previous books?

Color me surprised.

My only real beef is that I felt like the relationship development on this one fell a little short when compared to Real.

Remy is one one of my all-time favorite leads and, put simply, pretty hard (if not impossible) to top for me. Comparisons to Real are obviously going to be unavoidable being that this was billed as book #4 of the I Wanna Do Remy Real series.

I thought Evans did a great job making Greyson a tough alpha in his own right, while also giving us enough of Remy and Brooke to get a good Remy-fix, without Remy taking over the story (because he totally would otherwise).

So obviously, Remy's books are still my favorite, but I really enjoyed this one and I look forward to what Evans has in store for us with Pandora in Ripped...Because (based on the blurb) it looks like the only way to attempt to top a badass fighter and a borderline assassin?

4.5 - "You're my knight in leather gloves who went rogue." Stars!

I think there is always the urge to compare when reading a book by an author who has in the past provided you with one of your hands-down, fall-in-love-with-from-the-first-page book boyfriends. Katy Evans is one of those authors for me, I will never forget or fall out of love with Remington Tate and because of that I initially started Rogue with a little trepidation. I wanted to judge Greyson on his own merits rather than against the merits of a man who is essentially incomparable.

"I'm Greyson King and I'm your man."

I suppose the first question would then be has Katy managed it? For me that would be a yes, Grey is different, dissimilar and wholly unique. He is dark, dirty, blunt and brutal.

He’s a ten. I’ve never, ever been with a ten. And the way that he looks at me... I’ve seen that look before. The look that Remington Tate gives Brooke. That look. He’s giving it to me and I’m dying inside. Can I die from one look? And if one look can kill me, then what would one touch do?

Melanie has been on Grey’s radar for a while, being a part of the family that controls the Underground and all of the fights and gambling that take place therein, he has seen her on the security footage attending Remy’s fights with Brooke. She has his attention for a whole different reason now though, her name is on a list, a list that once completed will offer him answers. In order to get those answers he has to become Zero, the stuff of Melanie’s nightmares.

She’s my mark, but she’s marked me.

Grey – I’m going to be everything you never wanted.” ...
“Nothing that you need.” ...
“I’m not the man of your dreams, Melanie, I’m your worst nightmare.”

So what happens when a relationship that is built on smoke and mirrors, half-truths and omissions, turns into something more than just sex? When the person keeping the secret and the person that is ultimately the reason for secret come together... This is in essence the basis for Grey and Melanie’s story, and the drama that unfolds as people around then realise their connection.

He’s like every boy I made out with under the bleachers, every boy I’ve ever wanted who didn’t want me, everything that was forbidden to me.

She makes me fucking hot. Hard. Possessive. Protective. What the fuck? … She makes me feel like I’m not a robot, like I’m flesh and blood, a man, not a number, not a job… not a monster, not a bastard, not a zero.

The writing, the development and the flow of the storyline are absolutely perfect. As the drama unfolds, the secrets revealed and the emotions build up, you are with Grey and Melanie every step of the way. The dual POV really helps with this, as although the story is wholly theirs as a couple, a lot of it happens to them as individuals, and I liked that we got the whole story from both of them in the one book this time.

”With you and me, there are no givens. No rules. Just what we want. And I want every inch of you. I want what you’ve given no one.”

Rogue is a book you will struggle to put down, it loved getting back into the Underground, albeit from a completely different perspective this time. Katy Evans has managed to give us dark and sexy again, but in a completely different way. I didn’t at any point in this book stop and compare or feel any sense of de-ja-vu.

”I want you like I want a new life, Melanie.”

Melanie and Greyson have their own individual personalities and quirks, you don't feel like you are reading a rehash book, cobbled together from previous characters just with different names and scenarios. The only reason this didn’t hit a 5 for me... I wasn’t a massive fan of Melanie prior to her getting her own book, and although I understand her more now after Rogue, I still found her a little immature at points. I still fell in love with the author and her style of writing all over again though.

”You’re danger Grey.”
“You have no idea, princess.”

5 Oh my Greyson King Stars

I love this series, it just leaves me with warm fuzzy feelings. This is Greyson’s story. This isn’t a boxing/fighting book, it’s more about redemption and seeking peace. It kind of has an “assassin” feel, which I love.

Summary

Greyson has to collect payment from 48 people. Once he finishes his list, Greyson’s father will provide Greyson’s mom’s location.

Melanie is struggling financially. She doesn’t have time to entertain herself with a mysterious stranger that helps her out of the rain, but she indulges, just once.

Melanie

I like Melanie. She’s young, strong and very independent. She’s stuck in the rain and a sexy guy offers to help her out. Of course there’s insta-lust, which I thought would turn me off, but it doesn’t. It just adds more character to Melanie and Grey’s story.

Greyson

Oh Greyson, he’s so damaged, so flawed and so tortured. His mother was taken away from him and he has spent most of his life looking for her. He hates his father and doesn’t have time for Melanie because of his list, but he also can’t keep away from her. I love Greyson because of his past and his pain. You feel it and I love how he allows Melanie in his life, even though he shouldn’t.

Overall

I love how different Rogue is from the Remy and Brooke stories. Honestly I didn’t want to read the same Hero and I didn’t. I felt like Rogue was a little deeper, but not as intense. I liked how it’s really about boxing / fighting. I liked how it was simply about Melanie and Greyson and also Greyson’s struggle with juggling the relationship and his list.

I loved how powerful and dominate Greyson is, it wouldn’t be a Katy Evan’s book if he wasn’t. If you are a fan of the series and want something a little different, then Rogue is for you.

4.5 - 5 description's

This is Melanie's story, Brooke's best friend, and Greyson, who's family runs The Underground. They both have been searching for something, intentionally and unintentionally, and finally find it one night in the rain.

This book was pleasantly surprising for me and I always love that. I didn't expect to like Melanie as much as I did and I certainly didn't expect to like this book as much - or more than- Real. And I really love it when I just can't put a book down!

I knew that Melanie was a bit wild from the other books but I never really got that she was such a happy person. She was so endearing from her having to wear at least three colors to her love of Princess Bride. But she's gone through some tough things and on top of that, she just made a mistake and now she has to find a way to pay for it. Luckily, she has a great family and great friends to lean on.

description

Greyson is hot!! I didn't like how the book starts off with him being with a skank (!!) but once you get to know him, it's ~somewhat~ tolerable. He's really between a rock and a hard spot and he won me over pretty quickly. There's some things about him that seem weird in the beginning but you will understand when you find out why. And he's intense too...not Remy-intense but close enough. It was wonderful getting his POV and seeing Melanie through his eyes. He was just too sweet with how he took care of her and all the things he couldn't stop himself from doing!

Heck-to-the-Y.E.A.H. this is steamy but there was one part that was a bit much. Of course, that's par for the course with this series and with all the other "good" stuff, it's easy to overlook.

They both have some drama going on - Melanie with her debt and Greyson with his father. I enjoyed seeing how things worked out and there was even some emotional drama that was very satisfying.

It was fun getting to know a little more about Pandora, Melanie and Brooke's friend, and it was really fun getting to know more of Greyson's friends/coworkers. KE could've had a whole 'nother series for all of Greyson's friends!

description

KE has a certain writing style that bothers some people but I was too into the story to care. If you're a stickler for perfect punctuation and grammar, you may have a hard time.

The ending was perfect and knowing that Pandora's book is next, I know we will get more of Greyson and Melanie as well as Remy and Brooke!

Rogue is an amazing addition to the Real series. It’s hot, beautiful and suspenseful. There were many twists and turns. Also, Greyson was one very mysterious man for quite a while and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Greyson is absolutely incredible, but Remy still has my heart. Greyson is strong and determined. He has one goal and nothing will stop him. He doesn’t let many people see his soft side, but Melanie knows it. He’s very protective and possessive over Melanie and there isn’t a thing Greyson wouldn’t do for her. Melanie is sweet, insecure, determined and loving. I loved Melanie and Greyson together.

Ugh - such a beautiful book! I think it had me with the first line ;)))
Greyson is such an amazing guy - he was just born into the wrong family...but that's what makes him such a beautiful sad and lonely person.
And this joyful girl Melanie is just the right woman for him.

I would've loved a bit more Remy in this book - but yeah - he would've taken our attention away from Grey because we just love Remy soo much.. BUT I have to say I really love Greyson just as much...and I think that's totally ok because you can have a book boyfriend in every genre - so Remy's my fighter and Greyson's my mafia enforcer ;)

The book was REALLY sexy and moving and funny and and suspensy and kind of dark - darker than the previous 3 books - and I loved that.
You don't really compare it to Remy's books all that much and I really liked that! Greyson & Melanie deserved to be/have their own story!

Now I'm excited to read about the RockStar who will make Pan believe in love again!! Even though he's the one who made her such a man-hater in the first place :)
Can't wait! ►►► Ripped

Greyson "Zero" King is a mob boss son. Though he doesn't want to take part of it, his dying father wants him to take over the Underground, their source of business where they organize MMA events. In order to prove himself, he was given a list of people and collect their debts in exchange for his mother's location whom he haven't seen for years. His life changed when he hooks up with the blonde girl who owned a blue Mustang. He's obsessed with her but when he sees her name on the list, the feeling of protectiveness for her prevails and he'll find a way to get out of it.

Melanie Dean is a decorator and Brooke Dumas's best friend. She's a carefree, hopeless romantic and selfless person. However, she has a debt after losing a bet in Underground. She's been warned by the mobs and asked for an extension while she saves up money. She goes to parties and looking for her prince charming. After the best intimate moment she had with Greyson, her instinct says he's the one. However, this enigma holds secrets and she wants to know them. What if his real persona will be the reason she needs to get away from him? Maybe he's not her Prince Charming but more of a villain.

Melanie and Greyson have a great chemistry and their intimate moments are steamy and sexy. However, I didn't like it became fillers and somwhat drag the story. I don't mind intimate moments as long as it still focuses on the actual conflict. Melanie annoys me on her spending habits. She has a debt to pay yet can afford to buy clothes, shoes etc.? I wish she saved earlier so she can pay her debts earlier. Greyson is sexy and intimidating but he's not my favorite. Though the mafia aspect is secondary in this book, I enjoyed the story despite of my issues with it. I like the drama near the end.

Final rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars

THREE POINT FIVE STARS

Rogue is the third book I've read in this series of six. I read (#1)Real 3 years ago and then 2 years ago I read (#5)Ripped so it's been awhile since I've been in this world. I had no problem keeping up with the story even though I didn't read book 2 or 3.

This is a story of 2 people who each have their own big secret that they're scared to share with each other because they're afraid the other person will hate them if they know what they're hiding. Even though they are keeping their secrets hidden from each other they've continued to progress in their relationship until they began to question each other's intentions.

Rogue is an overall enjoyable story even though there were just some things that I think could have been easily solved. Such as I supposed if the situation could have been solved the way I mentioned in the spoiler above we wouldn't have the necessary tension that makes these romance books enjoyable to read.

SERIES:
Real (Real, #1) by Katy Evans Mine (Real, #2) by Katy Evans Remy (Real, #3) by Katy Evans Rogue (Real, #4) by Katy Evans Ripped (Real, #5) by Katy Evans
REAL - no cliffhanger | MINE - continuing story | REMY - Remy's POV of REAL & MINE | ROGUE - Greyson's story | RIPPED - Pandora's story | LEGEND - Maverick's story

Rogue is book 4 in the Real series. The first 3 books centred on Brooke and her relationship with Remy and Rogue is the story of Brooke’s best friend, Melanie and Greyson King. While it does work perfectly well as a standalone, it does of course contain mild spoilers for Remy and Brooke’s story.

Brooke said you were my Real. That’s what she calls the love of her life now. But you are not my Real, Greyson. You’re my knight in leather gloves who went rogue.

Real by Katy Evans was the top book of 2013 for me and Remy one of my top book boyfriends of all time. Katy Evans sure knows how to deliver powerfully intense but seriously fucked up heroes and Greyson ‘Rogue’ King is cut from the same cloth as Remy – he’s fiercely protective, possessive and he’s also got some pretty shady secrets to hide and he’s singularly focused on his girl, Melanie, knows he wants her and will go all out to ensure that she’s safe from the threat he and his organisation pose for her.

She’s that one precious diamond every robber wants to steal, that kitten every dog wants to chase, the mare you want to ride, bridle and tame—but not completely. Oh, no, not all the time because her wildness excites you. Her wildness makes you wilder. Her wildness makes you fucking ravenous

Greyson is the heir apparent to The Underground – the organisation behind the underground fighting circuit that Remy stars in and they are loan sharks extraordinaire and hold no prisoners when it comes to calling in a debt. Greyson has, for a long time, wanted no part in this shady organisation but his father has something over him, something he took from him a long time ago that he values highly and, to get it back, he must take care of all the debtors on the list and Melanie is right there, right at the top.

Unbeknown to us she had bet on the fight that Remy threw thinking it a sure thing and finds herself seriously in debt with no way to pay it back. The Underground has been putting the heat on her and now they have passed her debt over to Greyson King to collect. Greyson has been watching Melanie since she first started jumping up and down, screaming Remy’s name right next to Brooke. He’s been completely enthralled by her and has forbidden anyone from going near her. She’s become irresistible to him and he craves her desperately even though he knows that he is the worst thing that could possibly ever happen to her.

 photo GREYSONQUOTE_zpse23653fe.png

Up until now, Melanie has always appeared to be an all out party girl – bubbly, vivacious, loyal. We had no inkling that she was up to her eyeballs in debt and absolutely no idea just how lonely she is. She’s stunningly beautiful, no wonder Greyson finds her irresistible, but yet she’s never been able to find ‘the one’ although she’s worked her way through a series of very forgettable one night stands. She sees the way that Brooke looks at Remy with 100% focus and absolute love and affection and really wants to find that for herself. She’s looking for someone to love and be loved by – something really special. She wants her ‘real’.

Greyson steps in to help her one night as she’s left her Mustang hoodless in the rain and sees her home safe but can’t resist spending the night with her, despite his better judgement. They spend one perfect night together but Greyson has to keep on the move and leaves her to stew. I think it’s fair to say that Greyson sends Melanie from ecstatic highs to lows she thinks she can never climb out of. He treats her like a princess when he’s with her but she’s never really sure where she stands, where he is and when, if ever, he’s coming back to her. Greyson for his part knows he should stay away, he definitely considers himself to be no good for her, but Melanie makes him feel human and loved and makes him feel like a real man, not a robot, a hired killer. She makes him feel real.

Despite the fact that Greyson is keeping massive secrets from Melanie and she, for her part, thinks she is keeping secrets from him, she has never felt safer than when she’s in his arms. He’s possessive, protective and they share an irresistible, unprecedented magnetism and she makes him feels emotions that he never intended to feel, never wanted to feel, never expected to feel and yet he finds something good and pure in her that he’s never experienced before and he doesn’t want to corrupt her and expose her to the corruption of his lifestyle. He exists in a world consumed by darkness and evil and she’s like a blinding light to him, brightening his shady existence.

This was such a pulsating, compelling story that I devoured this is less than 24 hours – it was nigh on impossible to put down as I could see their worlds on a collision course and knew that there were going to be difficult times for these two ahead. Never has a central couple in a novel seemed more right for each and yet so wrong. As always with Katy Evans you get red hot, super-combustible sex scenes and Melanie and Greyson, at first, connect intensely on a physical level so HOT it’ll have you reaching for the air-conditioning. There’s a strong sense of urgency to these scenes, neither of them are ever sure it will happen again and they take as much as they possibly can from one another while they have the chance. The depth of their feelings for one another is palpable and their intense connections radiates off the pages and you can definitely expect a thrilling, pulsating conclusion to their story.

We only get to see a little of Brooke and Remy but what you do get will seriously warm your heart. Remy is still staring at Brooke like she hangs the moon and wait until you see him with his son. *sigh*. The next book in the series will feature the gothic Pandora and I will be very interested to see what Katy Evans can do with her. We know she’s been hurt but, to date, she comes across as bitter and twisted. Can’t wait!

Another thrilling, erotic romance from Katy Evans

4.5 intense stars

“As long as I have breath in me, you’re going to be my princess.”

Whoa. Why was I not told I’d need one of those walk-in freezers while reading this book? Apart from being one of my most scorching reads of the year, the ‘realness’ of the love story took me totally off guard, and held me captive until the very last word. This is a book I expected to like, and found myself obsessively devouring. The level of emotion, the raw chemistry between the characters, the insight into both their personalities—this book was the total package for me and one I’d recommend unreservedly.

“I get up every morning and put on my perfect face and promise myself to have the perfect day and to someday have the perfect family. But I’m failing.”

We met Melanie Meyers in previous instalments of the series as Brooke’s loyal best friend, but it is not until now that we meet the real Melanie and the hopeless dreamer behind the mouthy vixen. Melanie has always been the perfect daughter, the bright hope in her parents’ life, perennially bubbly and optimistic, her appearance and attitude reflecting that positivity and cheerfulness. Deep down, however, Melanie feels like a fraud, unworthy of the life she was given because she keeps failing at the one thing her parents wish the most for her—finding a good man and falling head over heels in love with him. She keeps ‘kissing frogs’ in the hope of finding the man of her dreams, but all she is ever left with is a string of one-night stands and a heart that keeps breaking from the constant sting of disappointment. And yet, Melanie never stops hoping that her perfect man would suddenly walk into her life and love her the way she craves to be loved, the way she sees her friend Brooke being loved by her husband—completely and desperately.

“I am prepared to fall, and fall hard, if only I would just find him.”

Her loneliness and desire to have at least some parts of her life fall into place drive her to make the kind of mistake that puts her entire future in jeopardy, the very mistake that brings a dangerous man like Greyson King into her life.

“F*ck her prince charming. She’s getting me.”

Greyson is the ‘heir apparent’ to an organisation that sets up fighting events all across the country, called the Underground. They are also in charge of all gambling activities related to the fights, and Greyson is their collector, a ruthless man with very particular talents and an unmatched success rate. But Greyson never wanted the life he was forced to live or the future he is now asked to embrace. When his only weakness is used against him, he accepts a job that makes him cross paths with the only woman who has ever made him wish he were someone else.

“She makes me feel like I’m not a robot, like I’m flesh and blood, a man, not a number, not a job . . . not a monster, not a bastard, not a zero.”

What starts as just one night of earth-shattering passion, slowly grows into an emotional connection neither of them can deny. When they are in each other’s arms, nothing else matters, they belong to one another body and soul, but when they are apart, their personal demons try to pull them apart and make them doubt what their hearts have known from the very beginning—they belong to each other. While Greyson is convinced that his hands are too dirty to be worthy of a woman like Melanie, she allows her insecurities to make her believe that a man like Greyson could never love and want to keep someone like her, regardless of how much of her love, of herself she gives to him.

“He is the one. The one who’s going to wreck me. Hurt me. Demolish me. The one who is going to remove every inch of the girl in me. He will be the memory I will never forget, and good or bad, he will be THE one I dream of.”

I’ll be honest, I never expected to find this story, or rather, the intensity of it, when I first started reading this book. The way these characters were developed so flawlessly and so meticulously made me feel like I understood their every move, their every though, their every emotional struggle. I simply got them. And don’t get me started on the chemistry between them because it is electric. Devastating. Epic. The sex scenes between Melanie and Greyson are so powerful, urgent, almost savage in the way these characters part with their inhibitions and self-control while their bodies take over. This author has a very unique talent for transforming even the most explicit of sex scenes into moments of pure emotional vulnerability and demonstrativeness which end up only tying these characters even further to one another. I was overwhelmed, utterly ruined by those scenes, everything about them being just right for my taste.

“I look at him, and he doesn’t scare me. He lures me. He tempts me, exhilarates me. He makes me want to claim him as if I’m claiming back a part of me that was once lost. Makes me want to tame him. Let him tame me.”

There is also something extremely appealing to me about a heroine who is so emotionally unguarded and yet so resilient. Melanie’s strength of character, her unwillingness to let go of her dreams, even after so many disappointments, and her courage to put her heart on the line time after time, are qualities that made me love her from the very first page. Greyson might have been the dominant ‘alpha male’ in this scenario, but it is Melanie’s persistent heart that was the true hero of the story. I loved their romance beginning to end, every component of it fit just right, including the language used by the characters, and I found myself without objections.

“You are so f*cking mine you don’t even know how mine you are.”

A deeply emotional story, a story that caught me by surprise and made me adore every delicious, dirrrty moment of it. I was enthralled, I was moved, I was bewitched, and I never wanted it to end.

“Whoever you end up with, just know you were mine first. A part of you will always be mine. When you find your prince charming, the one who has everything you’re looking for, perfect, you’ll still be my f*cking princess and not any other’s.”

Calm your boobs(Just because I really hate the saying tits)
I tried. I swear I did.
I got so sick of Melanie repeating how sexy Greyson is over and over again.
I got so sick of Greyson repeating how hot Melanie is over and over again.
And who the hell says 'tummy'? I think people use this word for their children. Like, “Hi pumpkin, does your tummy hurt? Want me to kiss your boo-boo?”
Why does he keep calling her body parts little?
Little breasts.
Little ass.
Little nose.
Little fucking shit.
I'm sorry *deep breath* I'm just mad. I expected more. Maybe I got the wrong copy cause everybody seems to be raving about this.
So much monologue and not enough dialogue. Nothing happened whatsoever.
I was stone-faced throughout this whole book. Not a smile, not a laugh. I'll admit there were some steamy scenes but sadly, that's not enough for me.
I'm afraid I'll have to let you go, Miss Evans.
I could have bought a Fiery Taco instead of this book. Or a King Chicken, or a McChicken with Cola and that really expensive salad that only has lettuce and tomato from McDonald's.
Unfortunately, I made a mistake.
It won't happen again.

Greyson “Zero” King. Hot. Hot. Hot.

I’m still speechless (and okay, panting). But damn, this book is breathtaking. He’s every bit of an alpha. Cold-blooded, untouched, enigmatic. But also vulnerable inside.

Damn, I want this man in my bed every night.

Greyson King…
My boyfriend. My friend. My protector. He’s the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, and the reason I fall asleep limp, worn out, and aching for his warm arms around me. When we make love, he says my name like it means something. Like I mean something.
He
Lied.
His name is Greyson King, but his alias is Zero.
There’s zero trace of him, he has zero past, and now I know that with him, I will have zero future.
He may leave no trace of him anywhere, but his imprint is in me, in my very soul—and I hate that a mere look at him commands the beat of my heart. The temperature of my body.
I’ve looked for love my entire life. I’ve waited for the butterflies, the rainbows…
Instead I’m in a free fall of emotions and there’s no one to catch me but the one man I should be running away from. The one man I thought was my prince charming.
Except this prince charming went rogue.
Greyson will stop at nothing to make me be with him. He'll let no one stand in our way, will allow no one to threaten me, and maybe this is what scares me most of all...

What will my rogue do to keep me?

5+ MESMERIZING ROGUISH-KING STARS!

description

This is my fourth book by Katy Evans and with every book she never ceases to amaze me. . . This book grabbed me and took hold of me with its intensity, rawness, broken-tenderness, and unique fairy-tale twist. I loved everything about it but mostly how it constantly made me daydream over the incredibleness of the roguish-king of this story.♥

Rogue is a spin-off novel from the original story about Remy and Brooke that was told in the first three books. Now it's Melanie's turn (Brooke's best friend) to find and fall for her very own alpha-hero. And wow, doesn't she indeed find him and we both (her and me) fall hard for him and his untamable ways!!

Melanie is a very sweet girl. She's a dreamer, an optimist, and an achiever. But in spite of those qualities she hasn't been able to find the one thing she has always wished for. The one for her. Well, that was until she meets Greyson King and everything she ever thought her prince charming should be goes completely out the window because Greyson is nothing like she ever imagined.

"He is what I never knew I wanted and now all I need."

Greyson is in no way a prince or charming in the sweet kind of way. Instead, he's a ball of intensity with his arrogance, possessiveness, and in your-face personality. He's also strong, calculated, and nothing ever gets in the way of what he wants and this time he wants her even when he really shouldn't.

"FUCK HER PRINCE CHARMING. She's getting me."

Regardless of the deterrents both Melanie and Greyson find a true connection the moment they're together. A connection they can't understand or get enough of. Their passion is magical, raw, and fierce making them slowly fall for each other like they never thought possible. But only Greyson knows an impending truth and the more he is with Melanie the more he fears he might be putting her in danger. So his priorities drastically change and the only thing that matters to him now is protecting his princess.

"I was given this angel and I would bet everything I am on the fact that she was given to me so I could protect her."

I adored this book! The story was so different and unique. A story about a broken alpha male that struggles to finally feel true emotions once again in his life. A story about finally making a love dream come true. And a story about loving love as it comes to you and embrace it and fight for it. Greyson stole my heart completely with his own story as it was so heartbreaking and beautiful. I love it when a alpha hero like him can be so tough but at the same time so emotionally intense. He made me cry a few times when his emotions were raw and all there to be felt. Katy just knows how to create the most perfect, broken, and delicious alpha heroes because Greyson was that and so much more!♥

Just another outstanding read in the Real series. You'll love this story as it is genuine, hot, powerful, magical, and totally rogue! A must read from me. ;)

I no longer care how silly this series is, I love it! I love how animalistic Remy is, scenting her and loving her so fervently. Brooke still annoys me, but I love Remy so much, I want him to be happy, and she is what he wants therefore...

Greyson is everything.

I loved everything about this story. Katy Evans stole my heart with Remington Tate, but she confirmed my love for her and her leading men with Greyson King. The angst and the pacing and the writing and the pain and the heat... I devoured this perfect story. It's been a while since I've read a story this unputdownable, this delicious, this consuming. Rogue is perfection.
