KARIN COX is an Australian author who writes in her “spare time” while being a fulltime mum to two precocious girls and a black cat with the improbable name of "Ping Pong." She is the author of more than 50 trade-published titles, including children’s and adult fiction, biographies and travel guides, and Australian natural and social history texts, several of which are award-winning. Being so busy hopping from one genre to another, she runs almost wholly on white wine and insomnia, which could account for the cray-cray, but probably doesn’t.

Her poems and short stories have been published in anthologies worldwide, and her novels and anthologies GROWTH, CAGE LIFE, CROWS AND OTHER BEASTS, CRUXIM, CRECHE, CREED, DARK GUARDIANS and WHAT THE SEA WANTS are available from all good online distributors and bookstores. Titles in Karin’s bestselling DARK GUARDIANS trilogy have several times topped best-seller charts for gothic romance and dark fantasy.

The tension builds as the story unfolds and Armedo's destiny becomes more painfully clear. This book held many surprises, and I don't want to give too much away for those Cruxim readers who were startled by the unusual ending. Armedo learns that his world is not what it once seemed as the beautiful Cruxim, Skylar, takes him to a new realm wrought with intrigue and deception. There he learns a deeper meaning of love, passion and heartache as he struggles to make sense of his feelings for Skylar while dealing with the grief and guilt over those he's left behind. He's also desperately trying to solve the Sphinx's riddle and free Sabine from her prison. Overall, a highly emotional and satisfactory read. The best fantasy I've read all year, and I am anxious for the finale.

I had read the first installment a few years back and I wonder why I never continued on with the next. While the first one was original (Cruxim being Vampires' natural predators) this one was even more special. We finally learn why Amedeo isn't with other of his kind. We also learn about the Cruxim, who they are and why they exist. I love the lore about them. That might have been my favorite part of the story.

While the main character, Amedeo, is a very likeable one, sometimes I felt he was a little too much about 'poor me, every one I loved suffered because of me' kind of guy. Sometimes I felt like slapping him out of it a bit. Still, this didn't make me like him less. It was a fun, short story.

I truly thought ‘Cruxim’ was one of the best paranormal novels I have read in a long, long while…well, Karin’s latest novel, ‘Creche’, has most certainly topped the list for me now!
‘Crèche’ follows on from ‘Cruxim’ and it yet again takes you to another beautifully created world that is elegantly described and extremely visual, plunging you deeper into the lives of all Cruxims.
Amedeo thought he was all alone, as did the reader, well now you will learn what it is to be a Cruxim - what the ‘crux’ to bear really entails, what their true destiny is, who their real enemies are, how they hide and hunt, mate, breed and most importantly, love.
‘Crèche’ introduces us to Skylar, another Cruxim, who helps Amedeo come to terms with his pain, his past and ultimately his purpose. She helps him search for Sabine, as he is desperate to find her and save her. But it is when she leads him to Silvenhall that she gives him the greatest gift – knowledge, and so very much more!
Information about these amazing creatures and their purpose is slowly revelled, which kept me gripped to the page, wanting to learn more about them. What happened to Sabine? Amedeo’s mother? Who is his father? What it the purpose of the ’Swan’. How did Cruxims come to be?
You will be awed and amazed at how the plot effortlessly unfolds and answers one of the most important questions of all…
Karin has a flawless way of describing scenes that are so easily brought to life. I could imagine myself in the world she has created, I could see, smell, touch, taste what surrounded me. Her way with words is an absolute delight.
Her characters are dimensional and really allow the reader to connect with them easily. You will have no trouble feeling Amedeo’s confusion, Sabine’s sadness and Skylar’s serenity.
If you loved ‘Cruxim’ as I did, you will not be disappointed with Karin’s latest offering.
Yes, there is more pain and heartache – but there is also unconditional love and a new way for Ame to heal himself.
So hurry up Karin – write the third one – I again am eagerly awaiting you next triumph!

I find Creche's easier to read than Cruxim. I actually like it more than Book 1. It's still Ame and his sorrow and sadness. But there's Skylar who helps him discover himself. And what a self. What a twist! I so agree with his reactions and understand his inner turmoil.

My chest constricted a couple of times for Ame and Skylar. For how he kept feeling bad.

I liked all the explanations. But there are so many names. I feel like I'd have to write them down if I want to get them all straight but I decided to just enjoy it and let some slip and just have faint recognition of the name and it was fine.

I like that he has got some sexy action. But so short! I hope there's more in book 3. I hope Ame finally gets his HEA!!! **fingers crossed!!!** :)

I’ll admit when I started reading Creche, I couldn’t remember all of Cruxim but I was slowly reminded of it throughout the entire book. I always appreciate an author more when they don’t just use the first chapter as a recap, and thankfully it was so subtle that it was hardly noticeable.

This book is much more about who Amedeo is, the Cruxim, their ways and how they came to be, with a little vampire action towards the end. Cruxim was quite dark, full of sorrow and sadness, but with the introduction of Skylar, Creche has a much lighter tone and has uplifted the series dramatically, whilst throwing in a little more romance.

The author has such a way of writing that the words just flow on the page, and I soon found myself completely caught up in the story and the history of it all. It has a very descriptive nature, without being over the top, which allowed my imagination to just take over and easily picture the story. Everything indicates that a major battle is on the horizon, so I’m sure the rest of the saga is going to be full of action and I can’t wait to read it.

I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Creche is the second book in the Dark Guardians Fantasy series by Karin Cox. It follows Amedeo as he learns about his past and discovers many secrets about his kind and his family. Karin Cox really brings to life the Cruxims and the world in which most of them live.

The second book brought on a whole new story while still continuing with the original story line. It was unique and imaginative which held my attention through the whole book which is sometimes hard to do. A quote from the movie Up always come to mind “Squirrel!” A more in-depth look is done on the Cruxim which really brings to light some truths and deceptions. I’ve really come to love the characters and feel a part of the story so I can’t wait to read the final book and see what happens to the vampires, sphinx and angels.

The places the first book in this trilogy lacked, this one made up for! The questions we were left with about Amedeo, why he is different, and what is a Cruxim? We are able to read and find the answers, along with Amedeo. I enjoyed that Sabine and Joslyn, while not present, are very much a part of the story and continue to play important parts in defining who Amedeo is. Oh my goodness, Skylar, you are awesome, how I wish I could have the serenity you appear to have in so many volatile situations. I LOVED this book immensely. I was on such an emotional roller coaster ride and like a good series should, it has a cliff hanger. The unexpected twists only help to keep the reader engaged and read that much more quickly. Luckily, the third book is already out and I have it.

I've been waiting for this book for awhile. These aren't my normal books I read but for me a cover captures my attention and I kept stumbling up on crixum and going back looking at the cover. I figured it choose me and after the 1st page I was sucked in. This book made it worth the wait. She has managed to bring so many thing and beings together. I was once again sucked in. I will be waiting patiently for the next one. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy this a second time. A must read. Ginny Lampkin

I loved this story! I thought it was much better than the first (Cruxim - must read that first, this cannot be a stand alone read). I am very impressed by the author and cannot wait for the chance to read the sequel! Creche starts right up from where Cruxim left off. Ame learns more about his past and who he is. This book seemed to have more romance and leaving the reader wondering what Ame will do, thus making it difficult to put the book down. :)

Creche, the follow-up to Cruxim, picks up right where the first book left off. Amedeo meets another Cruxim named Skylar. The end of book one was riveting and left many questions unanswered. Mainly, who is the new Cruxim, what will happen to Sabine, Amedeo’s sphinx lover, who is trapped, and how will Amedeo deal with all the loss inflicted by the evil vampire Beltran. I don’t want to reveal too much for those who haven’t read the first book.

Skylar is an intriguing character who introduces Amedeo to other Cruxim and after being alone for hundreds of years Amedeo isn’t very trusting of other Cruxim and they don’t trust him all that much either.

I loved the first book in the series, Cruxim, and couldn’t wait for the sequel. When I opened the book to the first page I hoped I wouldn’t be disappointed. Sometimes the sequel in a series can be a letdown and I wasn’t sure how the author would top herself. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Creche is just as good and might be slightly better since Cox is revealing more about the characters.

Not only do the readers learn more about Amedeo, he learns more about his past. I don’t want to spoil things for those who haven’t read the book yet, so I won’t go into details, but I will say that I was shocked. There are still unanswered questions and I’m very intrigued to see what happens next. Hopefully that wait won’t be too long.

I highly recommend both Cruxim and Creche.

I read Creche prior to reading the first book, Cruxim, but I had no trouble following the story. As I read, I wanted more and more to get the first book and read it, which I did immediately after finishing this one. In this powerful and magical paranormal fantasy, Amadeo is a tortured soul who really makes the reader feel his anguish. His quest to uncover the truth about his origin in order to rescue his love, Sabine, may draw him into the war to end all wars. Great suspense, and the ending left me satisfied yet eagerly anticipating the next book. Highly recommended for any fans of paranormal fantasy.

Continuation of Book 1. A lot of blanks are filled and more blanks are created. Looking forward to book 3.
