The Jesus-Hearted Woman

Rate this book
It’s happening everywhere. Women are looking for ways to grow and use the God-given leadership gifts they know are in them—and despite the obstacles, opportunities abound. What would it take to not only endure as a woman who leads, but to influence in a way that is endearing—that is Jesus-hearted?

When it comes to leadership, Jodi Detrick believes this: if you have the heart, you can learn the skills. The Jesus-Hearted Woman is her guide to helping women—from beginning newbies, to veterans who’ve led for many years—develop ten essential qualities for dynamic and delightful leadership. With a blend of warm humor and “I’ve been there” compassion, Jodi weaves together memorable stories, biblical insights, and lots of real-life wisdom from her own long leadership journey.

This book has a lot of great advice for women who are serving the Lord, both new and seasoned leaders could definitely benefit from it. There were chapters that really spoke to me and flowed well. But some of the chapters were a really slow read for me. Jodi definitely has alot of wisdom to share.

Jodi reveals what it means to be an authentic leader—-walking as a Jesus-Hearted woman. She not only encourages but gives a wealth of insight. She quotes Slovenian-born theologian Dr. Peter Kuzmix, “Hope is the ability to hear the music of the future. Faith is having the courage to dance to it today” and goes on to say, “[we must] have the kind of vision that looks for the invisible God underneath, below the surface of life’s more obvious layers. Often, without realizing it, we’re walking on mystery. And just when I think my prayers are being trampled on by careless feet, perhaps they’re being danced upon instead, by those who hear the music of the future.” …lovely, beautiful truth.

This was actually quite a disappointment for me. When I read non-fiction I hope to learn something new, or to be spurred into action. There is very little scripture. Pretty much just the author was amazed she ended up in the place of authority she's in. With the reviews, I was hoping it had more practical application than just praying, a turn or change of event happens. Step into it. That summarizes a 309 page book. Maybe a different kind of personality will find it deeper and more enlightening.

This is an interesting book on leading like Jesus as a woman. It combines stories and Scriptures to present qualities of leadership. It was well written and had questions at the end of each chapter to help you personal and learn from the book.

I struggled getting into THE JESUS-HEARTED WOMAN by Jodi Detrick, but it wasn't the book; it was me. I have been on a reading fast lately. I'm not sure why, but it has caused me to struggle to get into any book.

Anyway, putting aside my own personal problems, Jodi has a gift for sharing her heart. She knows when the share in a light-hearted manner to elicit a chuckle as well as when to be serious without over-doing it. I have had Jodi's book on my shelf for several years now; sometimes I think that, like people, certain books come into our lives at just the right time and season in our lives when we need them the most. I am not sure that I would have enjoyed THE JESUS-HEARTED woman half as much if I had read it prior to now. Thank you, Jodi, for being true to your calling.

This was just the book I needed to read as we “officially” begin this church planting journey. Written by a fellow pastor’s wife, who also lives in the PNW, there were so many good things for me to take away!

There were some things I don't agree with on a doctrinal level, but there were some other parts that I found helpful. I appreciate the purpose of this book.

Good book for women just beginning or thinking about stepping into a ministry opportunity...

I think I would have liked it better had it been about 200 pages shorter.

Although this book focuses on leadership in ministry, the principles can easily be generalized for women in all types of leadership. Detrick has an easy to read style and manages to encourage women to growing these areas, providing short study applications after introducing each trait. Some reviewers stated she didn’t use much scripture but I didn’t find that to be the case, especially with the questions at the end of each chapter.

This was an excellent book. Although geared towards women who are, or may be, in positions of leadership, the points (10 qualities for enduring and endearing leadership) are excellent for any woman of faith. Because really, we are all leaders, unless we are hermits. Someone is watching us, learning from us, emulating us. Even if it's just our kids. And Jodi hit areas that will hit home for anyone. Most of the characteristics she covered, I feel like I got a lot of good training in when I was in ministry preparation in college, but some, such as Authenticity, Humility and Kindness...these are areas I feel like I constantly need work on. Her book was pretty long, but an easy and enjoyable read. And I came away feeling encouraged and inspired, not at all condemned. A little convicted =). One aspect I really loved about this book in particular, is that Jodi included a section at the end of each of the ten chapters with 'Coaching Questions', 'Tips for New Leaders' and 'Digging Deeper - Scripture Studies'. I didn't have time to do all of these, but this is the type of book, because each chapter covers one characteristic, it'll be easy to go back and study just one chapter and do the followup at the end, whenever I feel like I need to grow in one of those areas.

An absolute must-read.

Thank you, Jodi for an honest, encouraging and warm leadership book. There is such a delicate balance when leading between exercising gifts and losing the heart for Christ that got us here in the first place. A great read and thought provoking questions and scriptures at the end were a great addition.

Although a lot of her ideas weren't anything new for a Christian leadership book, I enjoyed reading them from a woman's perspective. Most leadership books I've read were written by men so it was refreshing to see a new perspective on things - especially from a woman in ministry.

While I loved this book and felt the teaching was amazing, I thought the middle of the book lagged a bit. It took a lot for me to finish it after I reached chapter 6 or 7. I did enjoy the last two chapters (9 & 10), so I'm glad I stuck with it. An excellent book overall.

There were some good points but I really felt like they had all been said somewhere before and it wasn't as original as maybe it should be. It was good but just not the best.

This book is about being a Jesus-hearted woman. A humble, bold and lovely woman who brings the love and life of the Lord to a broken-hearted world. This book is mentoring. and leadership for women.
