Sinful Secrets #2

Taming Violet

Rate this book
Kane I should know better than to get involved with my ex’s daughter. Looking like the ghost from my past, Violet moves into my home, tormenting me with those sinful curves. Her familiar brown eyes haunt my dreams, reminding me of her deceased mother, threatening to drag me back to that fateful night. Years ago, the heavens were painted with red and blue hues as a storm tore through my world, leaving me with nothing but guilt and remorse. Violet skies are never a good omen, but now those hues are wild streaks in her hair, matching her personality that refuses to be tamed. After growing up in foster care, Violet wants answers, but the truth hurts and the secrets I’m keeping are to protect her. I’m no saint and I know I don’t deserve her, but I’m not the worst villain from her mother’s past. I’ll be damned if I stand by and watch history repeat itself. She’s either my redemption or my penance. Contains mature themes.

I’m a graphic artist by day and author by night, writing real, raw, racy romance. My book boyfriends are inked heroes who like fat, fun, and feisty women (sounds familiar).

My goal is to spread body positivity through my fat and fabulous curvy heroines with a good serving of British humour on the side (not forgetting an extra helping of alpha goodness).

On the very rare occasion I’m not working in my day job...or night job as a writer, I'll be living my best life in the heart of England with my other half, two wildlings (otherwise known as Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee), and a randy cavalier pup.

My serious book fetish travels with me in our tin cruiser as we roam the English countryside. You’ll usually find me in a field somewhere or curled up on the sofa with a coffee (wine), blanket and dog to keep me cozy, and a good steamy book to make me w—warm.

Get in touch! I love hearing from readers.

When Violet ages out of foster care, she decides to find her father, but it turns out Kane was just the name that was written on her birth certificate. He and her mom had a complicated past that was full of secrets (and some are not even known until the end of the book). After their initial meeting, Kane opens up his home to Violet; she quickly meets some friends in town, but it turns out they also have a past with Kane. As Kane and Violet’s relationship develops, the secrets begin to come out. I love how important Violet’s name was.

I've been waiting for this book ever since I read Protecting Poppy. We saw a glimpse of Kane and Violet in that book, and I was intrigued. After reading a couple of books from this author, I quite like her witing styles, and I've been loving her book so far.

I really love the first half of this book, which is exactly when they finally get together, so it is quite a slow-burn. The tension between them is FIRE! The pay off when Daddy Kane finally gave up is so worth it, and it's so hot and steamy.

This story feels taboo and forbidden, though they are not related at all. I think it's because she initially thought this man is her father (just for a brief second) and Kane was going to raise her as his own if her mother didn't passed away.

The third act problem is full of twist and angst, it's tearing me apart. The revelation at the end finally answers all my question, but not what I was expecting.

I would love to give this book 5 stars, but there's some things in this book that I don't really like.

But overall, this is quite an enjoyable reading and I will still recommend it of you like taboo/forbidden love story. I would like to read the story about Shane and Lilly and more from this author.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was well written and had a good storyline! I was so excited to keep reading to find the answers that the FMC wanted to know as well. If you like taboo romances then you’ll enjoy this book! There were moments when they talked about the mother and it felt a little weird to me but that could be a big reason why this book is labeled as taboo. I loved reading about Kane and his growth and how he overcame his past and got the happiness and future he deserved. Overall I think this book was enjoyable with good spice and a plot that was interesting and emotional.

There is so much heartache wrapped in these two characters. Kane was destined to love Violet before we she was born. The past has a way of catching up with us, and when it catches up to Kane, he won't ever be the same. Family fueds, taboo love, and some really spicy scenes make this a book you have to get your hands on.

Daddy Kane is definitely up there on the book boyfriends list.

Kane and Violet's bio mom were previously in a relationship, and most people believe that she's his daughter. Social Services took Violet when she was a baby due to Allison's drinking and was eventually put into foster care, Allison killed herself shortly after. Kane and Violet have a mutual attraction, but don't pursue do to the Kane's still lingering feeling towards Allison - Violet's mother. Violet tries to befriend a group of local kids and is told by Kane to stay away from the Bennet brothers. She ignores him and goes to a party with the brothers as well as two girls the brothers share. She and Jack leave early and park, and Violet contemplates sleeping with him just because, but Kane stops them before it gets too far. When they get home, he spanks her, which he'd been teasing about doing for weeks, and then sends her up to her room. He buys her a vibrator, and a few nights later, comes home to find her using it and they both masturbate together. Kane later feels like he took advantage of her, and she gives him a blow job. A few days later, they begin a fully sexual and romantic relationship. One night a former love interest of Kane tells Violet is told that her mother was raped and heavily implies that she the product of said assault, she also learns that Kane murdered the person that raped her mother. After another incident with the Bennets, Kane then tells her that the uncle of the Bennet brothers is the one who attacked her mother and is her biological father. She runs to the Bennet's and their father confirms that her mother had a relationship with his brother, and suggests that she also slept with him. She moves in with her bio family.
Violet and Kane reconcile a few weeks later, and when the Bennet patriarch finds out he beats Violet, causing her to run away. The Bennet's then set fire to Kane's home. Violet and Kane move into his lake house, and she still holds a lot of hostility towards her dead mother, but we're not told why. Later Kane finds one of Allison's journals that Violet had and learns that Allison was in love with Gavin Bennet, the man she allowed him to believe raped her. He broke up with her and she wanted revenge, but didn't expect Kane to go so far as to kill him. That guilt, and the pressure she felt from being on a high pedestal that Kane put her on, led to her mental downfall, and her drinking issues, which to that point was thought to be in reaction to her sexual assault.

It’s pretty clear that I love Annie’s writing style, (I’ve read a few of her books), but what I love most is the stories themselves.

We first get a glimpse at Kane & Violet in Protecting Poppy and I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to read their story.

Now before you go into this, please check trigger/content warnings as it does delve into and deal with sensitive issues as well as an element of taboo. ⚠️

Violet is what I’ve come to expect from Annie’s main character, she’s curvy (well, duh! Lol) fierce, independent and strong. I love her.
Kane is amazing. Yes, he is beautiful, strong and protective but he is also vulnerable and damaged. He needs just as much love and safety as Violet does. I LOVE him too!

The sexual tension is *chef’s kiss* and I ate it all up but I also loved the inner turmoil that Kane faced. It wasn’t just “well, she’s not related let’s get it on” he was constantly questioning the role he is meant to play in Violet’s life and torn apart by his past. My heart ached for him.

When it comes to Violet, there was a decision she made that left me utterly perplexed, I couldn’t understand why she would do that & when another option presented itself, why didn’t she take it? However, the twist that I didn’t see coming, helped explain a lot.

Human emotions are complicated and how we deal with situations vary from person to person. When reading this story, (I know it’s just fiction), you might think you’d have acted differently but until you are in that position, you’ll never know! This is just another element that made me love this book.

And finally, the spice. YUMMY! It was as delicious as blueberry pancakes with lashings of syrup! 🤤🌶️🥵

Oh, I can’t forget I love Shane and want his story! 😁

Annie is an instant buy author & can’t wait to read Twisted Santa next.

I Had Feelings But They Weren’t Good

Sigh, so many of the tropes/red flags/ triggers indicated I’d hate this beyond reason but stupid little scene on tiktok made me think maybe it’s not as bad as all that.

Well, I hated the characters and then the huge advanced age gap paired with it reading like a bad incest porno did not help. Sure biologically no boundaries were actually crossed but yeah it was just ick.

I truly didn’t think there was a plot until the last 10% maybe 20 if I get generous and even then it wasn’t good plot or well executed.

Otherwise there were enough misspellings to make things confusing and the lingo really left a lot to be desired. Also I realized this had lingo and European English which is cool but some words I had no context for and looking them up proved they were actually not the right word choice at all which was annoying.

Overall the best part of this book was when it was done. I have regrets. TikTok set me up again 😩😅

I knew I was in for an OTT emotional and probably dramatic read, but still didn't see all the twists and turns coming.

Violet and Kane have a complicated relationship and with it comes a tidal wave of complicated emotions, confessions, secrets and revelations that threaten to break their bond and ruin any chance at a future together.

I liked both Kane and Violet, they were two jagged pieces that somehow fit together perfectly. When they're together, it was a beautifully chaotic love story. It was the outside world and their shared murky past that kept intruding and tearing them apart.

I could not sympathize with Ali. At. All. #sorrynotsorry

When the truth is finally revealed about what really happened 18 years ago and Ali's actions that led to that fateful night, I was pissed! Talk about a chain reaction that splintered so many people's lives! And all for the weakest of reasons.

There is a lot of grief, anger, guilt and forgiveness that both MCs have to overcome to finally shed the past and claim their future but in the end, it was all worth it.

Loved Violet and totally understood her need to step out of her mother's long shadow. She didn't give up on Kane and fought for her chance to love him. She goes through a slight TSTL phase but with her background her knee jerk reaction makes sense. Didn't love it but I get where she was coming from. As someone who doesn't easily forgive a betrayal, I freakin hated the Bennets. Gavin, Gareth and even Jesse and Jack. Sorry but there is nothing redeemable about these characters and Violet's easy acceptance of their treatment of her was a little baffling, TBH.

Was it a little soap-opera-ey? Yes, but I was still hooked on all the drama and the suspense of it all. Can't wait to read Dom and Poppy's story next.

Shane and Lilly were great supporting characters with their own story going on. In keeping with the taboo theme, Shane and Lilly's story is gonna be a drama filled adventure. Not only is Lilly Kane's ex and Shane, Kane's best friend. Shane was also married to Lilly's older sister. It's a little too much of a small world for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Violet goes looking for her father, instead she finds a DADDY!!!
And....
By Daddy I mean....... "Yes, Daddy."

Ever since the sneaky peek of these characters in 'Protecting Poppy' I couldn't wait for their
forbidden / age gap story and daaammnnn the wait was worth it.

These two may give off some slow-burn vibes but it was still FIRE!!
The tension between them....
The lust.....
The angst....
The OTT protectiveness....
The push and pull....

And then...
When Daddy Kane finally gave in to the temptation that was Violet holy hotness... the spice!!
I mean... how will I drink beer from now on without thinking about these two?? hehe

Both Kane and Violet pulled on my heart strings.
Violet! Good god I wanted a HEA desperately for her. She is simply a girl who wants a place to belong, a family / people who love her. She had so many sides to her and i honestly enjoyed them all. She was strong yet occasionally vulnerable, caring, determined and sassy. Kane didn't stand a chance!

Kane! I felt for this man whose tragic past forever changed him. He may act all broody but it is evident he is such a caring and protective man. Some of the things he did for Violet without even really thinking about it were sswwwooonnnn...
But..... Is Violet the one to bring down those walls?
Their story was a journey...
Not only was it steamy... but it had angst, drama, secrets, sweet and swoony moments, and some unexpected twists.

This was another great read by Annie Charme and I can't wait to see what she brings us next.

😊What i liked -

✔️Age Gap/Forbidden Love/Curvy Heroine.
✔️Kane was a simple but yet complex character. (my heart tugged for all that weight he carried over his shoulder)
✔️ While reading this book I was rooting for Violet to finally get what she craves for. She is strong and sassy with a ton of vulnerability.
Though I wanted to hate Jesse in this, I just could not.
✔️ It was a nice twisty, angsty read with a ton of drama and spicy read.

😊 What could have been better -

✔️I knew the age gap would be a lot (after reading protecting poppy), but from time to time it did bother me a little. (again a me problem)

😊Who Should read :

👶Beginners
💝Romance Lover
💞Age Gap Romance
💛Forbidden Love Romance

My Rating : 3.5/5

I loved this story so much!! It was a slooow burn and, at times, had me trying to read faster to get to the outcome. I devoured it in a day. I really had a hard time putting it down. I was so anxious to see the outcome. So don't jip yourself, slow down, and enjoy the ride.

Let me tell you, I was bitting my acrylics for the spice (it took a little while), but when it did come, it was soooo satisfying. I was definitely feeling edged by this author 😆. It was slightly taboo (father/step-father and age gap), but I love me some forbidden notes! I would say a solid 4.5 🌶. The only reason it was not a 5 was because I just wish some of those scenes were longer.

This story had all the feels, and I was totally here for it. Kane's journey was torturous. He's such a good man with a huge heart that not many get to see. I just wanted to wrap him up and take him home for myself. Although he did have me yelling at him from my couch telling him to just go for it and stop being a brooding guilt-ridden fool, lol. He eventually listened 😉.

Now Violet, I felt, was so strong and at times fearless and knew what she wanted. At 18, I was neither of those things. I wanted it all for her after her not so ideal and sad upbringing. I was so rooting for her. She needed that unconditional love and support, and Kane was just the man to give it to her. I loved this whole journey.

Now I think I need Ali's story so I can forgive her!!

Taming Violet is a steamy, instalove, age-gap, forbidden/taboo, curvy girl gets her hunky tortured man romance. Violet is an 18 year old sassy, spunky, independent curvy girl who grew up in the foster care system. Kane is a hunky, tortured, ex-military man who was her mom's ex-boyfriend. When Violet goes looking for her real family after aging out of the foster system, she ends up at Kane's house. The two are instantly attracted to one another, but Kane is tortured by the past and feels he can't give into his feelings as he promised her mom he would take care of her. This story had so many twists and turns. Kane's tragic past just gutted me. The chemistry between these two was pure fire, holy hotness 🔥. After a lot of angst and secrets coming to light, we get a happy ending. But I was sweating bullets until the end of the story. This was a gripping, steamy, romantic suspense with a dose of light kink. Overall, it was a great read.

Taming Violet by Annie Charme

Violet is searching for her birth parents after growing up in foster care. She learns that her mother passed away, but her Dad is still alive. She spends the last of her money and drives to his house. When she arrives, the man who answers the door is gorgeous and she's instantly attracted to him, but he's her Dad. Turns out he isn't really her Dad. He's just the man that her Mom put on her birth certificate. He's obviously older and there's some drama and issues surrounding their age difference and relationship, but of course they end up together - otherwise, what's the point of an age-gap romance where they don't? The book was okay.. it wasn't my favorite age-gap and I wouldn't stop someone from reading it but I probably wouldn't recommend it over other age-gap romances. I did like that Violet is a plus-size character as there isn't enough real women representation in romance literature.

Taming Violet by Annie Charme

Ok let’s begin with me saying I really enjoyed the book but felt I should not. I probably make no sense but you guys I felt I should feel dirty or something wrong while reading this book. I guess that why i just couldn’t give it the five stars. I loved the fact that it’s is a great story about a young woman who is really truly looking for place to belong a family. So she goes looking for her father and finds Kane. That’s what I had the one and only problem with the whole stepfather thing because gross. I really tried to get past that but nope that just nope. But besides that I loved that she finally finds what she longed for and it is a great story and one you should read just be prepared for that little bit. It’s definitely a book to be read.

A powerful and emotional read, I recommend to read the trigger warnings before reading.

I have trying to read more from new authors and Annie Charme didn’t disappoint. It was great to read a curvy girl romance and it being set in England with British English.

Violet has returned to her birth town, she has found Kane, who is named as her father on her birth certificate. She discovers he is not her father but has links to her past and her mother. Although she finds another way to call him ‘daddy’. This age gap taboo romance will make you want to keep on reading. A story full of secrets and surprises, a must read!.

Annie Charme continues to write excellent stories, and I just truly enjoy her work! Taming Violet focuses on characters that were first introduced in a previous story, Protecting Poppy. I will say, that it's not necessary to read the previous books of the series to understand this book. The tension between Violet and Kane is smoldering and filled with angst! Talk about the slowest of burns!! I loved the steam between Kane and Violet, and I banter - I was in all kinds of emotions experiencing the push and pull between them, waiting for the twists and turns, and when they happened, I was like 'whoa!'. Overall, this is another great story in this series and I will continue to read the next set of characters!

The age gap trope was so intriguing, it gave me Credence vibes without the why choose. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs, the relationship dynamic of the main characters was a little strange, mainly because the MMC would remember the FMC mother all the time. The plot itself was interesting, the way the story flowed was really easy and the suspense was really good, some parts I was really surprised!! My main problem I think was the relationship between the main characters, it just didn’t seem healthy, I mean the ghost of the FMC mother was always around with the MMC guilt. The ending was really sweet, I was so happy for them! Overall, it was an easy and palpitating story.

I enjoyed Taming Violet: A Curvy Girl Age Gap Romance with Suspense. This book had my emotions all over the place. Lots of drama, suspense and lots of steamy scenes. Violet is looking for answers about her parents. She grew up in foster care. She thought Kane was her father but that’s just another lie. So many lies and when the truth finally comes out will it ruin all the relationships that’s Violet has built? Including her relationship with Kane. The past still haunts him and if he can’t let go there is no future with Violet. His is a great story and I loved the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.

Annie never ceases to amaze me! This was just...wow. The twists, the undeniable attraction, the smart a$$ mouth on Violet, the over protective ways of Kane...🤌. I got so wrapped in the story, that I forgot the 18 yr age gap. Kane's instant attraction for Violet may have stemmed from her looking like her mother, but his magnetic pull to her wit & heart, that's what made him fall hard. And can we mention the shock factor this author always seems to toss in there? No spoilers, but there may be things the characters read that will make you wanna throw stuff & yell at the book (no?...just me?) 😂. 💯 worth the read. Couldn't stop once I started. As always, I LOVE the plus/curvy female representation. Can't wait for more in this series 💜💜💜

Daddy issues

Taming Violet is the second book in The Sinful Secrets series. I had read the first book, Protecting Poppy, which for me was an ok/good read. Taming Violet was an interesting story that I am still not completely sure about. I had a harder time not getting a bit queasy about the forbidden aspect of the story. I know this may just be me but it is how I react to this sort of relationship dynamic. Kane and Violet once knew each other when she was younger, as he was in a relationship with her mother. But when her mother dies Violet is put into foster care and Kane gets on with his life. Years later and Violet has aged out of the system and wants to find her father. What she finds instead is Kane and that sets off a whole other set of Daddy issues.

My Favourite Annie Charme Book Yet!!!

I loved Vi and Kane. I loved their back stories, I loved their relationship, I loved their spice, their age gap, their chemistry and heat; I loved everything about them!!! Their story has a lot of darkness swirling around them and there is just so much heartbreak in their lives. This story was one I couldn’t put down. From following Vi as she heads out from the foster care system in search of her family until the very end and they finally get their HEA, I lost sleep over these characters and would do it again in an instant! Grab a big glass of wine, some munchies, tissues and an extra pair of panties and then one click this book because you don’t want to miss it!

Violet arrives at Kane's door believing she has found her father as his name is on her birth certificate. However, he knows that he isn't and agreed with her mother that his name could be used when she was born. Kane is torn as Violet is so like the woman he had loved years before. He lets her stay with him and eventually chemistry takes over and they begin a more intimate relationship. But he is hiding secrets about her real father. Violet finds a box of her mother's letters that Kane has kept under his bed. Those and a diary unveil all the trauma of Kane and her mother's past. A hot and steamy story.

This was a fab age gap romance that brought together Violet and Kane. She believed he was her birth father but he wasn't... These two had a hot connection but he's got some trauma from his past with her mother that's stopping him from pursuing her, along with their age difference. Violet was looking for a place to belong and thankfully, she did find it with Kane. This is a slow burn romance but the heat is epic when it's finally unleashed ;P Expect an engaging reading ride filled with angst, drama, secrets, lots of emotions and a steamy HEA :D

A curvy girl, daddy issues, forbidden romance, age gap found family, protective grumpy man that adores her (&ofc his dog ♥️) and add some spice what more could you want?
Loved it! I flew through this book I couldn’t put it down. This was moderately spicy in my opinion nothing crazy. I love me some age gap and forbidden romance. It was such an easy read and you quickly fall in love with Kane and violet. I adored the curvy girl representation as it’s not seen often in books and it should be seen more. I bought this on a whim and I’m happy I did!

surprisingly emotional

I started reading for the taboo dynamic but continued reading, pleasantly surprised at how deeply emotional this was. There’s a lot to unpack here: lost love, guilt, wanting to belong, what makes a real family, old grudges, dark secrets, forbidden (sort of) attraction, sizzling chemistry, and more. This did not disappoint: the tension leading up to the spicy scenes as well as the scenes themselves were pretty delicious. Kane is everything you could want in a hot, chiseled, broody, protective, passionate book boyfriend. Violet was an interesting character to read as well; lost and looking to belong, knowing what she wants and going for it, bold one moment and shy the next. It’s going to take awhile to get these two and their journey out of my head.

This book made me feel a lot. My brain couldn't figure out what was going on and how i felt about well any of it. These characters are so complex that it's perfect and refreshing. I'll stop here because i don't want to give too much away, but let's just say it's really hard to figure out who you are rooting for.
It's taboo, and the spice is exquisite. Think mothers ex, age gap, ptsd, plus size strong willed girl growing up in foster care.
An great read.
It was my first book by Annie Charme (forever young has been on my tbr for a year 🤦‍♀️) but it will definitely not be my last.

My first book with a taboo theme and it definitely lived up to that and more. I absolutely could not put it down and stayed up well past my bedtime as I just had to know what happened next.
Both characters carry trauma that they really have to work through. You’d expect being age gap that the older character would be more experienced and mature, and in some ways that’s true. Where I think this changes is emotional maturity. Where Vi seems able to process and work through things much quicker than Shane, his default is to push everybody away. Sometimes though, working together is the key.

When Violet comes of age and goes searching for her father, I dnt think she was expecting Kane.
We briefly met Kane and Violet in protecting poppy so I was looking forward to reading their story.

This was a slow burn, but more so because Kane was trying to do the right thing. Even though Kane is not her father or are they anyway related it sort of feel taboo, and I loved it.

This is full of secrets and lies with a major twist at the end that I really did not expect. This was a good read, think I have found my new Kink older man to be daddy!!!!😜😜
