The latest outstanding compilation of nature photography showcasing the winners of the annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition Presenting the year's very best wildlife images, this powerful collection of pictures represents the work of many international photographers, both professionals and amateurs. It comprises all the winning and commended photographs from the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 competition, the most prestigious event of its kind in the world. Together this outstanding collection is a reminder of the splendor, drama, and variety of life on Earth. Each stunning photograph is accompanied by an extended caption and there is an introduction by one of the world's most respected nature photographers.
This was definitely a good year for photography, if the photos in this one are any indication. Some of my favorite photos of the entire series were in this one. Beautiful.
An absolutely stunning collection of the best wildlife photography from 2013. The technical skill and sheer devotion these photographers display in getting these shots is amazing, and I loved the brief story behind each photo. Reading how difficult many of these shots were to get really puts them into perspective, making them more than just beautiful pictures, and transforming them fully into full stories in their own right. The photos are sometimes emotional, sometimes powerful, sometimes cute, but overall they are incredible feats of artistry, perfect viewing for any fan of photography or nature.
Actually, it gets a 4.5 from me as I didn't feel it was as strong a collection this year for some reason.
Nevertheless, the images in this book are powerful as well as breathtaking; the stories behind the images fascinating. There was also a small section on the devastation caused by mankind to the natural world which had me tearing up quite a bit - although, I'm blaming it on the stress of the season finally getting to me.
Images of extraordinary achievement by some of the world's best wildlife photographers, accompanied by texts in the artists' own words about the sheer scale of endeavour often required to capture these jaw-dropping moments. A book that I know I will revisit often for the sheer enjoyment of looking again at these inspirational captures. Highly recommended.
Once again a gorgeous collection of wildlife photography. Lots of excellent photos, a great coffee table book for everyone who likes wildlife photography. I don't quite agree with the jury about the overall winner, but in many categories the winners are really good.
