Meredith & Hodge #2

Ill Conceived

Rate this book
Meredith is keeping secrets from Hodge, and that can only lead to trouble, and it raises questions as to whether their relationship can survive. Dealing with their personal issues must take a back seat whilst they investigate a series of heinous crimes.

Why did Anna Carter, a beautiful young girl in her prime, murder a man with whom she only had a chance meeting? Who would be brave enough to attempt to murder popular mayoral candidate Richard Hancock in front of an audience? Going against Patsy's advice Meredith tries to prove Anna's innocence rather than her guilt, whilst Patsy is tasked with finding out if a colleague responsible for the alleged rape of successful business woman Stella Young.

Meredith is convinced that Michael Brent, a local entrepreneur is involved. He doesn't realise it, but he’s working against the clock to prove it. His decision not to share his suspicions with Hodge might prove to have fatal consequences.

Ill Conceived is the second in the Meredith & Hodge series and follows Misplaced Loyalty which is also available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009EC3MQO or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009EC3MQO

ILL CONCEIVED is the third book I have read by M K Turner and just like the other two it had grabbed me by the collar within the first couple of pages.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a one sitting read that has left me eager for the next in the Meredith and Hodge series.

The main characters are both believable and have a chemistey which is endearing from the beginning. I loved the progress of their relationship from the first book even though at times I was screaming at them to come clean with each other. There are some wonderful additional characters in this story that grew on me very quickly and with so much going on I was kept entertained and in suspense throughout the book. I am hoping to see more of them in the future.

The author has a style that is competent and refreshingly plot-heavy, she manages to introduce the serious, romantic and humorous elements without force or hurry.....I consider myself a huge fan!

Fans of crime/Mystery who enjoy fast paced stories with lots of twists and turns and who want a touch of romance that features two strong characters will really enjoy this book!

I highly recommend this series as well as Murderous Mishaps by the same author.

I think Meredith & Hodge may be my new favourite crime fighting duo. Love the interaction between them and indeed between all the characters, very believable and lively. The plot moves along nicely with plenty of twists and turns. The narrator does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

I was a little disappointed with the very ending as I'd hoped for a different outcome but can't say too much without spoiling it for those yet to enjoy the book.

On the whole though, a thoroughly enjoyable book and I can't wait to get stuck into the next in the series.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

"The best proposal I've never heard."
With D.I.Meredith.And Patsie Hodge now officially a cohabiting item, one of them had to give up their p!ace in the Bristol police criminal depatment- and it wasn't going to be Meredith. To his initial horror, Hodge makes a sideways move into the privatesector, to join Chris and Sharon's successful P.I. company as a partner. There's a new boy in the team, too, young, red haired, fast tracker Louis Trump who just happens to call the Super 'Uncle David'. There will be murders to solve and an unpleasant character to route out: but first they must deal with Patsie's stalker.

This is the second in theRewith and Hodge mystery series although it can be read easily as a stand alone. The real pleasure of these books, and this is no exception is the marvellous and realistic interplay of the ongoing relationship between the two principal protagonists, sometimes fighting with each other as they continue to fight crime in this excellent British police procedural. And it is not just the lead characters who are given a realistic life story, in varying degrees all emerge as far greater than mere paper cut outs. This is further enhanced by the narratkr, Led Bedow, whose down to earth E blush voice breathes life into them all, with individual voicingS for the numerous personalities, and mostly with good accents. A fine, low key performance which lets the writing itself shine.

I am very beholden to the rights holder of Ill Conceived, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. As with book one, I really enjoyed this story set in Bristol, England although the action could take place I many large towns of cities. A clever 'slice of life's which brings great characterisation and dialogue, crime and who-dun-it?, together with thrills, the odd tear, romance and humour. Great fun. A good read. Recommended.

Ill conceived/m. Turner

This seri e of hodge, who worked for Meredith in special crime unit of police dept. Hodge and Meredith decide to live together which force hodge to resign her career as cop and work for a p.i. Co. This series has so many twist and turns investigating several murders , it was suspense to the end . I could not put this book down . As the first series it was mind blowing as how the author was able to developed a well thought out story for crime caper readers as myself. Loved the main characters hodge and merridith, and their many friends. I would recommend this story for a good crime solving mystery. On to the next series.

This the second book in this series and the characters just get more and more real. This novel can be read as a standalone but I would suggest reading Misplaced Loyalty first. It helps the reader understand the bigger picture with regards to characters and crime. This group of officers are challenging , rowdy and humorous. The suspense mixed with the subtle humor makes this a page turner. Lee Beddow does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life through narration. There are enough twists to keep you guessing through this wonderful read.

Amdrew Short is knifed dead and later Anna Castle is shot, is there any possible link between the two. Meredith and his team need to find the culprit before any more bodies turn up, meanwhile Hodge has now left the police and is working as a private investigator on several cases. Will their working lives cross as their personal life seems to be fraught with suspicion.
A very enjoyable well-written story with a delightful set of characters

The whole genre of detective fiction began with a lady author - Anna Katherine Greene - and it's good to see that it's safe and even more successful these days in the hands of other women writers such as Marcia Turner. Ill Conceived is the second in the Meredith and Hodge series and is every bit as good as the first book, Misplaced Loyalty. The characters we encountered previously continue to develop and we meet some interesting new ones. Relationships between them don't always take the course we'd expect. There's an intricately created and thought out plot with several strands to it.
Patsy Hodge is now working as a private investigator and her first job throws her in at the deep end. How come Stella Young, businesswoman and lesbian, is pregnant? To her certain knowledge she has never slept with a man. Meanwhile, Meredith and his team are investigating the murder of a young man in broad daylight for apparently no reason whatsoever. Why does all the evidence seem to point to a very unlikely suspect? How does the Sensations night club fit into all of this? And even after the self-confessed perpetrator is taken into custody, how come the deaths continue? The various story lines become intertwined meaning Patsy and Meredith are working together again but there are tensions between them, in both their professional and personal lives. Are they being completely honest with each other?
A truly absorbing book with an ending that takes your breath away, and leaves you eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

In Book 2 of the Meredith & Hodge series, Meredith and Hodge have gone public with their relationship, but he’s keeping secrets from her, and it’s breaking her heart. And things on the job are heating up – people with no obvious connections are killing each other and both Meredith and Hodge have to figure out why. He from the law enforcement side, and she in her new job as a private investigator.

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much, I immediately bought books two and three. This had the right blend of everything for me – mystery, romance, police procedural, character development, great plot, I just can’t say enough good things about it. And the ending – oye!

What I really like about this series is that the characters seem “real.” Hodge struggles with her feelings, but ultimately steps up to make the hard decisions. She doesn't put herself in stupid situations and she admits when she needs help. It was also gratifying to see Meredith show a human side and not always be the “super cop.”

I recommend reading the Meredith and Hodge series in order as the books build on each other. If you're searching, I notice the author also goes by Marcia Turner.

I really enjoyed this book, so much so that as soon as I finished it I started to read The Wrong Shoes.
The characters are well developed and the storyline progresses at a good pace, there's no condensing in the final chapters where so often you can get the impression that things are a bit rushed.
Although I couldn't wait to read on, I didn't want the book to end! A very worthy 5 star book.

I enjoyed this but not as much as the first book because I found it quite confusing at times. There are just so many names in this book I kept forgetting who was who, still it tied up nicely in the end and set the next book up well.

This is the second book in the Meredith and Hodges series, and much better than the first - no disrespect meant. I reviewed the first book and commented that it was very character development heavy rather than plot driven, as is understandable when starting a new series. This second book is more plot based, which I like better.

Patsy Hodge is now a private investigator working two cases - one a possible fraud, the other a paternity case. John Meredith is still at the police station and is working on a series of murders that link together, but the motives are unclear.  As well, there are still character developments as the relationship between Patsy and Meredith develop. Ms. Turner does wrap up a thread from the first book at the beginning of the second, rather than continuing with it - and I'm not sure whether I wouldn't have wanted it to continue a while longer, as a thread throughout a few books.

Meredith is being his, shall I saw, usual, closed-mouthed self about most things about his past, which Patsy doesn't appreciate at, and this causes the most friction between the two characters.

We see secondary characters return, several of the police officers of course, and Linda, the IT genius. I'm glad she's still in the books, she's a quirky individual, and I hope to read more about her.

There was a slight issue with the narration which I brought to the author's attention and which will be fixed, nothing that distracted from the overall narration or story. Otherwise, the narrator was, once again, quite good.
