Well written storyline along with detailed worlds. The main character "Kala" is the perfect description of "came in like a lamb but intended to come out like a Lion". It also makes one imagine, with the technology we have now, is it possible to "shape" a human being and harness it's powers? One can only dream,...right?
The Second book definitely took me by surprise as it weaved detailed worlds of "Star Wars meets DOOM video game and have "Star Trek" children": edgy, kick-ass and fantastic with a hint of actual real world! (read the book! You will know what I mean)
Kala - whose quite grown since Book 1, is now beginning to understand the intentions of her "capture" and her "doomed fate". (I dont want to tell too much of the book.) Book 2 is gripping and as I turned each pages, wanting to smack Yatrell upside the head for being so "a typical guy", I mentally found myself saying "Noooo! Don't do it (insert character here) -- and then the word: smirk pops out. (d'oh!")
Catrina Taylor's "Birth of Empire" books are a must read! truly enjoyable characters...and I can't wait for Book 4. (Catrina -- HURRY UP!! I dont think I can wait until December)
