The introduction found here is the best explanation of Algebra I've read. Neill's explanations are thorough without being complex. The only issue an American audience might have is translating some of the British terms and spellings. But otherwise this is an excellent helper to learning Algebra.

This is a great course and covers a lot of ground.

Explanations are rather terse and I don't think enough clear examples are always given

Most learning comes from doing the exercises. Things do become clear that way.

A few chapters were a struggle for me, and I found I needed to use some YouTube/ net resources to get through barriers.

Sometimes the format of answers at the back bore no resemblance to the teaching material. There are different ways to do things which are equivalent but it's maddening for a learner.

I only found one definitely wrong answer given at the back. Others I thought were wrong, weren't.

This book teaches the basic ideas but then in the exercises it tests you on equations way more advanced than the examples and explainations and gives answers in the back without any explaination of how the answers are reached, a lot of answers that I thought were wrong because they were different to given answers I checked on multiple algebra calculator apps and I got the same as them but answer in the book were different, so I have moved to other sources of information.
