Whether you're looking for the finest cuisine or the least expensive places to eat, the most luxurious hotels or the best deals on places to stay, Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guides provide useful information by local experts to find the best of everything at each destination.
This travel book is entirely organized by topic. We have lists of top 10 museums, top ten bier gartens, top 10 hotels in every price range, top 10 attractions in adjoining regions, top 10 worship houses, etc.... Each entry is brief, with enough info to explain the appeal, but short enough to have no spoilers (so to speak), and links for further information. So, this isn't the place to go for grand details and deep understanding and planning. However, if you aren't sure what-all the city has to offer, it is a good way to get ideas on what you want to look into further, without getting bogged down in minutiae in early planning stages. Also, it is easy to skip to topics relevant to the reader. If you are into shopping or hiking, it is super easy to go straight to those topics. If you know you won't be at any fancy restaurants, you can zip right past that section. It's a little different than travel books organized entirely by region or neighborhood.
Of the city he lived in for many years, 20th-century writer Thomas Mann said that "Munich glows."
Located in the heart of the city, this former residence of Bavarian kings and home of the Wittelsbach dynasty until 1918 was gradually transformed from a moated castle (1385) into an extensive complex with seven courtyards. Highlights include the largest secular Renaissance building (the Antiquarium), interiors from the 17th century and the Rococo period, and Leo von Klenze's Classicist Konigbau.
We grew to rely on the Top 10 series of books during our trip to Italy and Germany. Cuts right to the chase for the top sites and experiences. Great for the traveler who only has a day or two in a city who needs a concise overview, and good for travelers like us who have more time and want to drill down into some of the secondary sites. Also, the book is physically easy to carry with you as you explore. Narrow and slim, easily slips into a back pocket.
Useful to my planning in Jun-2010 visit to Munich city. This book is layout as matter of fact, but without the fun part. It will be better if it provide a recommended route-map instead. The subway and bus route should be better indicated.
Some useful tips but nowhere near as insightful as the Rick Steves' series of travel books. Still, there was enough information to inspire me to research things further and I got some unique tips.
