About the author

Charles Ghigna - Father Goose® lives in a treehouse in the middle of Alabama. He is the author of more than 100 books from Random House, Disney, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, Time Inc. and other publishers. He has written more than 5,000 poems for children and adults that have appeared in anthologies, newspapers and magazines ranging from The New Yorker and Harper’s to Highlights and Cricket magazines. He served as poet-in-residence and chair of creative writing at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, instructor of creative writing at Samford University, poetry editor of English Journal for the National Council of Teachers of English, and as a nationally syndicated poetry feature writer for Tribune Media Services. He speaks at schools, conferences, libraries, and literary events throughout the U.S. and overseas, and has read his poems at The Library of Congress, The John F. this book is a delightful exploration of colors that deserves a solid four-star rating. The book beautifully combines poetic language with vibrant illustrations, offering an engaging introduction to the world of colors for young readers. Ghigna's storytelling is captivating, and the visual appeal of the color wheel adds an extra layer of excitement. While the book provides an enjoyable experience, a bit more depth in the educational content could elevate it to a perfect rating. Nonetheless, it remains a charming and enriching addition to any children's bookshelf.

My two year old granddaughter adores this book. She loves the different children and pretends they are the important people in her life. She can name all the colors with ease, but is distressed by the paints spread across the floor on nearly every page. "Big Mess!" she exclaims while pointing at each one.

Bright, cheerful pictures and rhyming text make this colors book very appealing to small children. I was surprised by how much I like this one, but it breaks the concepts down with such pleasant simplicity.

Love this book! It's a board book that is so cute for introducing colors and mixing colors to young children. My 18mo loves the bright colors and my 4yo was excited to paint after reading this book! Highly recommend to everyone with small children.

Cute little book that gives the basics on the color wheel. Illustrations are pretty.

In this book, Charles Ghigna uses verse to discuss color. Using bright, friendly illustrations, Ghigna exposes children to important elements of art knowledge in a fun and simple way. While he mentions color and where to find them in the world (such as a red apple), Ghigna also introduces the color wheel, along with primary and secondary colors, and illustrates how two primary colors mix to make a secondary color. Additionally, additional resources are provided at the end of the book for further learning.

Ghigna's book is an excellent choice for children who already know their colors and are ready to move beyond books that only introduce color. This book would also be a welcome addition to a collection in any elementary school art classroom.

This is such a fun and simple way to learn about colors. This book divides the colors into primary and secondary but in a fun filled way that doesn't feel like kids are learning. It also relates the colors to objects so kids can understand what they are hearing with what they see. This also explains that when certain primary colors are mixed they form different secondary colors. This is a wonderful introduction to colors for children of all ages.
