Welcome to Frog and his world. He enjoys nothing better than spending time floating on his pond or visiting with his friends. He appreciates the simpler things in life and would prefer that things stay just the way they are nice and peaceful. From acclaimed children s writer Eve Bunting comes a beginning reader series featuring the delightful Frog and his friends Rabbit, Possum, Raccoon, and Squirrel. In Frog Saves the Day Frog and his friends mistakenly think a nearby train is a ferocious dragon and later Frog rescues a friend s child from danger.
Anne Evelyn Bunting, better known as Eve Bunting, is an author with more than 250 books. Her books are diverse in age groups, from picture books to chapter books, and topic, ranging from Thanksgiving to riots in Los Angeles. Eve Bunting has won several awards for her works.
Bunting went to school in Ireland and grew up with storytelling. In Ireland, “There used to be Shanachies… the shanachie was a storyteller who went from house to house telling his tales of ghosts and fairies, of old Irish heroes and battles still to be won. Maybe I’m a bit of a Shanchie myself, telling stories to anyone who will listen.” This storytelling began as an inspiration for Bunting and continues with her work.
In 1958, Bunting moved to the United States with her husband and three children. A few years later, Bunting enrolled in a community college writing course. She felt the desire to write about her heritage. Bunting has taught writing classes at UCLA. She now lives in Pasadena, California.
This is number 6 in the Frog and Friends series. Although they are usually found in the beginner section these books are intended for children who are already reading (Grades 1-2) and have a least two chapters. The first story in this book, Frog and the Green Dragon, is humorous. Children will identify with hearing a sound in the night that scares them. They will find the description of the train or green dragon and the people it ate silly because they of course know what it really is. The colored illustrations of the animals are expressive and slightly cute.
This is a cute children's book that caught my eye on Libby. Frog loves his friends no matter what they are, and that is a good lesson to learn from his story. He saves a life....he is a hero. The illustrations are darling and it's a cute story but it just didn't grab me.
Frog saves the Day is number 6 in the series Frog and friends. This book is for early-readers grades 1-2. It illustrates community and friendship through the mini adventures that frog and his friends go on. There are two chapters. The first all about conquering fear, when frog helps his racoon friend find out what was making a loud and terrible noise during the night. The second chapter is about frog saving Possum's baby #5 from drowning. Each chapter uses humor and interest to capture the reader.
