4 Berkeley Has A Thing For Pearls Stars!

Wow..I totally want a pearl G-String now! This book was so much sexier than the first in the series. I still had a hard time deciding what to rate this one, and even though this series isn't going on my favorites list yet, it's still a book that I loved and could see myself re-reading. I'm still deeply intoxicated with this series, and I can't wait to read the next installment.

The Berkeley Method picks up with James disappearing for 4 days without contact to Issy. Issy has the whole can't eat, can't sleep act going on, and I have to admit it was getting on my nerves! I found Issy to act different in this novel, and I kinda missed that fiery temper that she's known for. She seemed much more vulnerable, but maybe that's because she is falling in love with James at this point.

As for Oscar Winning Director James Berkeley he is still a sexy Dom Alpha! One of my favorite things about his Dom side is that it isn't extreme. I loved 50 Shades, but it was almost a little too much BDSM for me. I like that James likes to be in control but he's not super Dom. It isn't over the top. I was a little disappointed that we don't find out more about James' past, but I guess that's part of what keeps us reading! I WANT MORE JAMES BERKELEY!

“I can’t keep away from you,” he says, “but I need to know that I’m not damaging you. I couldn’t bear to think I was taking you to somewhere dark.” ~James

The relationship of James and Issy was much more profound in this novel. I loved how the book wasn't just focused on sex. Although the sex scenes are still HOT as ever, we get to see Issy and James in an actual relationship and learning to lower barriers and fall in love. It was by far my favorite part of the book!

We are also introduced to a bevy of new characters. I loved some/wanted to strangle others, but through it all I am still disappointed in the lack of connection between Lorna and Issy. Why is Issy friends with Lorna? She's a terrible friend. It doesn't even seem like she cares. I felt more friendship between new arrivals on Isabella's movie set than I did from her best friend.

There is also a movie stalker everyone has to contend with, the mysterious lipstick stalker...this gave the book an element of suspense that I was very much looking forward to. However, I felt that it was kind of a disappointment. The way things panned out were 100 percent unrealistic. James would never have done things the way that he did them! The lipstick stalker did have me reading into the middle of the night though trying to figure out who it was, not to mention that James was totally hot being all caveman protective over Issy. Sigh, James Berkeley really does make this series!

"I don’t doubt I’m strong enough to protect you,” he says, and I see fire in his eyes. “I would defend you from an entire army of stalkers. But I’m not strong enough to lose you.”

There was one scene in particular that has stuck with me the most. In fact, all of my visuals and some of my quotes all pertain to this part of the novel: James is taking Issy to dinner and she is sporting a pearl G string. Every movement is sensitive to her - the train ride, climbing the stairs, just being close to James. He stops and toys with her on the stairwell to the restaurant. It was an unbelievably sexy moment!

'I feel myself slamming against the wall of the stairwell. The pearls have already brought me to the brink, and I feel myself close. Then he reaches down and twists the pearls back against my clitoris with a little expert flick, and I feel myself give way.'

The Berkeley Method was both a success and a disappointment. Overall, I liked it a lot more than I disliked it and I'm looking forward to the next installment in this 4 part series! I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a Christian Grey fix, or just to escape the harsh realities of the world for a little while.

“Your past will come out, at some point,” says James.“And I’ll be there to catch you. I promise.”

I am enjoying this series. They are so sweet together. It has been compared to Sylvia Day and E.L. James and that's just a crazy comparison lol. No angst and the hero, James, is definitely not in the same hemisphere of Alpha as the heroes in those books. But I really loved this story, not thrilled with the cliff hangers though. I am really sick of reading what is essentially one book chopped into pieces with a cliff hanger at the end of each. Really? How about you write an incredible story and just publish it on it's own merits? Crazy thought I know.... :-)

Where to start... maybe with saying that I didn't enjoy this part as much as I did the first one?

My rating is so low cause of many reasons. I didn't like what the author did with the heroine. Her inner voice, insecurity, indecisiveness and ongoing rhetorical questions throughout the story were fiercely unnerving. As for an upcoming celebrity she lacks temper and self-confidence, she's almost constantly frightened like a school girl. This makes me wonder - what James sees in her? Cause she certainly didn't sweep me off my feet.

As for the plot it has "cliché" written all over it. I know this book was supposed to be written to FSoG lovers, but it comes too close for my taste. Yes, we have a gazillionaire (who of course happens to be a control freak), a poor girl, broken pasts, drama drama drama and of course ubiquitous security team in standby 24/7. Phew, that's so "original"...

The whole movie set was tad unrealistic, it's like you were thrown into a fairytale mode. And would you seriously believe that a plain, ordinary girl is treated like a queen within just a few days by a complete stranger who magically turns from a dominant, who wants to beat the sh*t out of her to a sweet and tender teddy bear overnight? Yeah, I thought so too... And of course he falls oh-so-in-love with the clueless girl who submits to him.

Last pages were nightmare to read. I laughed at Lipstick Stalker and his incredible ninja/chameleon skills. Issy, naturally, asked at least 10 times if and when they're gonna catch the stalker. Geez, girl, get a grip...

It made me laugh that everyone considered Isabella such a great actress basing only on James' personal opinion, and that he offered her a leading role. As if it happens in real life... yeah, right.

The writing lacks editing, I've found numerous spelling mistakes and some logical ones, too (like when she put on the dress and pearl strings before heading to Paris with James, and when they come back she wakes up and notices her denim SKIRT was removed by James... perhaps a detail, but still).

I am going to read the 3rd part of the series only to hopefully find out what Berkeley Method is and what mess will Natalie make.

Well, this was again pretty predictable and still I felt no real connection to anyone. In addition there were some of the worst editorial blunders I've yet read... My favorite was at one point in the story Izzy is wearing a cream camisole and denim skirt which she changes out of and leaves the house in "a black clinging dress" but the next morning awakes thinking..."I don’t remember much, besides falling asleep on the train. He must have carried me inside. I’m wearing my camisole top and underwear. But my denim skirt has been removed. So, at some point, I presume, James must have undressed me." Not only did he apparently undressed her, but half redressed her as well! Jesus, do any editors actually read the material before sending off to print?

Also I had issue with the character development of James. He's touted as a control freak and a take charge, competent kind of man. And yet not once did we actually see these personality traits in action. Every circumstance that unfolds he's pretty weak and useless. He's unable to control anyone or anything, he's also really fucking stupid (>>>>>>>>>SPOILER: for example, he decides to use Izzy as bait, but doesn't warn her. He starts making out with Izzy right next door to the very woman who could wreck them ... how is this smart in any way?! END SPOILER<<<<<<<<<<)

I will say, however, that I did actually enjoy this book, this one more than the other. And I'm already starting the next.

I really would like to give this 3.5 stars....

Isabella Green and James Berkeley, the actress and the director continue their story.

Isabella is slightly dramatic in her reactions but overall her character is likeable and James, well he is the dominant male! Yum Yum!

It is farfetched in many ways but again offers fab escapism. I didn't really have any extreme emotion when reading it but I absolutely loved their steamy sexcapades; J S Taylor sure knows how to hot things up!

Okay I first have to vent about the first part of this story and how annoying I felt Issy was. I wanted to reach into my Kindle and put my hand over her mouth. Needy much? I mean he was gone for 4 days! The idea that someone could go somewhere where there is no cell phone reception is not a totally unheard of concept. The idea got worse when she figured that he might not have reception at for a few hours...but then it would magically appear??? Really, like somehow a satellite would appear from the heavens and BAM there would be service? Now I know that the whole reason for him being gone was not as innocent as he made it seem (although it was completely innocent), but she felt like she was mislead...she jumps to conclusion... and that whole red rose thing...Get over it already. So he only gave them to his mother...like I said I was a bit put off by her behavior in the first part of this book... I don't recall having any issues with her in the first book, nothing like this at least.

So, we get going into the story, right where book one ends. James is gone and Issy is (well see my thoughts above). Things get back to normal a bit once they arrive on set. But that is when the suspense twist comes into play. Between hiding their relationship from the other actors and the press a new issue comes into play that can derail the film altogether or destroy Issy's chance at becoming a star actress.

The new characters introduced were liked. There seems to be some interesting pull to the whole Ben Gracey history that I hope comes out in the next installment. James opens up a bit, but you can sense there is far more to be told before he has completely let go of all of his secrets. Even Issy gets a chance to open up about her past - although you get only an idea that she is holding onto far more than she even thinks she is.

I still get the FSOG vibe a bit when reading the story, but after reading so many different romance/erotic stories it is hard to create something that doesn't run some parallels with something else. The Berkeley Method gave some depth to the story and provided more of an angle to the story than just rich man falls in love with young girl and likes to spank her... I am looking forward to the release of The Director's Cut and then The Final Act, it appears we won't have to wait too long for the completion of this series. This one ends with a mini-cliffhanger, but nothing that will cause you to freak out.

Book Chicks Chat:

James has only been gone 4 days and you would think its been 4 months. Issy has the whole can't eat, can't sleep without you down to a science. She was getting on our last nerves. Like he picked YOU to star in his movie and he wants to be with YOU. Soooooo Chill out!!!

We like that James isn't over the top. He is smart and he thinks before he reacts. He does not have time for foolishness. We still want to know more about the drama between him and Ben. No there is still no insight in Book# 2...but there is a new piece to the Ben puzzle and her name is Camilla. Camilla once had a crush on Ben and that didn't end well, so we are dying to know more!

We are still sitting on the fence about Lorna. Is she a real friend or not? We are leaning towards NOT, but we will wait to learn more about her before we cast our official verdict.

We loved how the book wasn't just focused on sex. Although the sex scenes are still HOT as ever. There are some new characters introduced - some we love / some we can strangle. There is also a movie stalker...this gave the book an element of suspense. Because as the reader we were dying to know how bad Natalie wanted the lead role and how far she was willing to go to get the part.

Our favorite scene: James is taking Issy to dinner and she is sporting pearls instead of underwear. And every movement is sensitive to her - the train ride, climbing the stairs, just being close to James. He stops and toys with her on the stairwell to the restaurant. It was an awesome scene!

'I feel myself slamming against the wall of the stairwell. The pearls have already brought me to the brink, and I feel myself close. Then he reaches down and twists the pearls back against my clitoris with a little expert flick, and I feel myself give way.'

What we are looking forward to:
•Will James be able to keep Natalie under control during filming? Because she is now in the know of his and Issy's little secret.
•Will James and Issy's relationship be exposed before either of them is ready?
•What is the beef with Ben?
•Will Lorna prove to be friend or foe?

Yep I can't deny this series is still great but after reading this book 2 I actually do have a couple of little niggles.

So my first niggle is this; (smallish spoiler here so don't read on this paragraph if you don't want to know something) it's the whipping scene, it's probably because it is just not my erotic flavour at all. But I absolutely cannot get my head around men wanting to whip women especially women they profess to love so much, to me this isn't dominance it's practising sadism, because it really is just inflicting pain in my eyes, but then that's just my opinion of how I see it. So that one scene didn't sit well with me at all.

Secondly, (no spoiler here) I get to the end of book 2 and I see it's going to be FOUR books! WTF!!! Why is this being strung out to FOUR books! Each book is only just over 200 pages long....... it really could have been settled in two book and at a push going for a trilogy, I only just started this thinking I could read all three books now I am gutted to see I've got to spend more to read the forth. Hmmmmm not happy about that. I also wonder is when I get to the end of book 3 it's going to change and suddenly be five books, I don't think so but hey the element of doubt is there.

Having ranted though about the above I can't help but still enjoy this story, the characters are still engaging, the story albeit a little weaker in this second book is still keeping me reading on. It is a tad predictable but for those that love these kind of books there's is certainly enough to feed the addiction and keep us entertained.

>>Spoiler -- Maybe<<

Honestly, I can't make up my mind about this one. I don't think I hated it, but it didn't excite me either. I do and don't want to give it a lower rating. Most of this is due to the slow-paced plot--I'm talking about the overall plot of the series, not the individual plot threads presented in each installment--paired with the fast-paced romance. Like I've said before, it doesn't mesh well. I want them to start filming the movie already.

Also, I didn't appreciate the plot thread with the Lipstick Stalker. It came out of nowhere and didn't feel right. It might have worked if the author had dragged it out over the next few installments. As it is, this particular thread is wrapped up by the end.

I don't know why, but I still plan on reading the next one. Maybe, I'm just praying it will get better. I want it to get better. Really, I do.

Actual Rating: 3.5

This was sexier than the first book. I mean...wow...this book was sexy and hot. The story improved in this book as I got more from the characters and got more comfortable with the way J.S. Taylor writes. There were some really hot, steamy scenes.

The characters were great. I think the best part about the book was watching Issy and James's relationship fall in love. I also thought it was cool that I got to know more about James as a character. It was really special, and my favourite part of the books.
Also, the new characters made me laugh and fall in love with them too. Except maybe Natalie.

The ending was great. This book contained some suspense as there was a stalker introduced into the storyline. The book yet again ends in a cliffhanger. I can't wait to see what book 3 has in store for me. Recommended for fans of FSOG. Overall, a great read.

The story of Issy and James continues in this book and I liked it better than the first installment, but still was disappointed by a lot of things. First, nothing ever happened. They were supposed to be shooting a movie, but instead they spent their time talking and doing nothing. Again, like in the last book, I regret that so little time passed in the book - perhaps if it took place during a longer time period, more things would have happened.

Part 2 of the Spotlight series that is getting more and more interesting. There is a stalker in this and just when you think you've figured out the Lipstick stalker is you are off base. I only wish the story was longer. James falls in love with Issy and actually says it, he will stop at nothing to protect her. There is a cliffhanger but May cannot get here soon enough because I am drooling for more!!!

I have mixed emotions about this book. I am so frustrated by this author. Just when I'm getting into the plot, it's the end of the book. The black moment was like a paragraph and the real action was less then that. Although, the chemistry between the main characters was pretty good, I am disappointed in it overall.

I am by no means slamming this book but after reading the first & the second books, i can't help but notice that there are sooo many spelling errors and such. Having said that, the story is ok. I feel like theres not enough suspense to say its gripping but its an easy light read. Id like to see some "OMG" moments in the 3rd and 4th books though because it's fairly plain so far

Good

This is the 2nd book in the Spotlight series, and James and Isabellas story continues.
I like James even though he's a control freak. Love his dominant side, too.
Halfway through the book, you get the opportunity to download a sneak peak into James's past. It is only 3 pages, but it is definitely worth downloading. This book keeps you gripped, and you do not want to put it down as you need to know what happens next. I am looking forward to the next book. It's definitely worth reading.

Great continuation

As we get into the second book there is a little mystery and intrigue. Love how the author doesn't make it all about love but added a but of action in here as well

After we read Close Up and Personal, we wanted MORE! We needed more of the dominant hotshot Director James Berkeley and more of the bittersweet relationship he had with Isabella!

Our emotions were left hanging in the air, so we really needed to get our hands on the second book.of the Spotlight series, The Berkeley Method, by J S. Taylor.
When James ( another well deserved book boyfriend of ours!!) left Isabella, we saw a very depressed Isabella in the beginning of The Berkeley Method. She waited and waited for a sign from her mystery Lover, but nothing came! So after four days.....she decides to go out and have fun with her roomy / BFF Lorna. With still no living sign from James, Isabella gets worried and looks the famous Director up on google and is shocked to death by what she sees. Could that be the end of their relationship? Of course NOT! We are just at the beginning. It would be a pretty short book and we´d be pissed as hell if that were the end of it! So.....Isabella runs out of the club she and her friends are at and gets lost while trying to clear her head. And then....Isabella got kind of caught in a nasty scene. You know.....a beautiful woman alone...on the streets...at night. The dangers, the dangers. And guess who pops up right in the knick of time to save her? YES! James comes out of thin air and helps the one person he loves! Isn´t that romantic? But wait....the story isn´t over yet. Both Isabella and James have some serious talking to do. But none of the two are really open for big discussions. Now....how do people let off some steam and avoid playing with open cards? * giggle like an idiot* They do bed sports! SEX people.....it all comes down to sex. Isabella did a very naughty thing by risking her life so she has to suffer from the concequences. In our opinion: That really didn´t break a jewel out of our crowns, knowing what kind of punishment James had in mind!

Now enough about the sex. This book us about The Berkeley Method. Let us explain:

The Berkeley Method is what James uses with his actors to push them on a higher level of emotions. Letting out your demons so you can act much better and actually feel your character. So.....James has offered Isabella the leading role in his upcoming movie and she accepts. She gets confronted with the Berkeley Method and her hard as rock armor is being chipped away, bits by bits, making Isabella more emotional that she was before. We would say that James used that Method to get to know Isabella better. And he did! But he also gave pieces of his past to Isabella, showing her what his deal was.
That was the emotional part of the book. So now we have sex and feelings on a new level.

What we really found cool was that the story had a stalker! Not that we like stalkers....nope. But having one in a book does spice up the story! Reading about how James wanted to protect Isabella in every way possible made our heart melt more for the guy! * swoon* He move Heaven and Hell to do anything needed to keep Isabella safe!

We will go no further because this book deserves to be read. Hot steamy and sexy as hell sex scenes ( punishment in a stairwell!) and a whole lot of meaningful moments that will squeeze your heart in a good way. Let´s not forget the other characters that pop up inbetween the story....Bitchy actresses and dubious Family memebers....It´s all in The Berkely Method.

This book was fantastic! But unfortunately....another bad bad cliffhanger! * screaming and pulling our hair!*

The Divas give The Berkeley Method by J S. Taylor 4 out of 5 Champagne glasses.

We start right where Close Up and Personal ended. James has left town, no word where he has gone and Isabella is left reeling. Different scenarios are running through her mind and she remains hurt and confused.
Her roommate, Lorna, has finally convinced Issy to get off the couch and go out with her. While out having drinks, she decides to look up James on the Internet. The press always seems to know what he's doing. That's when Isabella receives a shock. Now more than before, she's hurt, very confused and decides to leave the bar. Just wanting to have a quiet minute alone to process the information she gets lost and some not so nice guys find her. One of them try to attack her and the next thing she knows, he is knocked out and flying through the air! Looking for her rescuer she sees James! Ummm what? Where did he come from and how did he know where she was? James is so angry at her and we know what happens when a dominate male gets mad! Isabella is learning that she needs to take her punishment but she doesn't know how she feels about submitting herself to James. Um Isabella? If I had a HOT, sexy Englishman wanting my submission, you wouldn't have to ask me twice! They are both holding back but confess their feelings for each other are strong. He tells her she makes him want to be a better man.
The movie she's been cast in is back on schedule and James takes her to the studio. While checking out her chalet, she sees that James had completely outdone himself! New clothes, shoes, sexy lingerie and sexy new toys! Looks like someone going to have some fun! ;-) And OMG, where can I find a pearl g-string?! Wow, is it getting hot in here?
It's become business as usual and James and Issy are doing there best to remain a secret. That is until Issy receives a threat and James is having trouble keeping his feelings and emotions in check. "I didn't realize that my feelings for you had grown so strong." Now that Isabella is safely tucked away, she is ready to play. I've had quite the smirk on my face. "I'm going to take you to my bedroom," he says. "In a few minutes, I'm going to have you tied up, naked, and begging for mercy." Yes, please!!
Everything get crazy for Issy, while she's being threatened but she's not going to let that stop her. Just when things calm down and James and Isabella can focus on themselves, they are found out. The problem is, the person can ruin EVERYTHING!
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and sexy story from J.S. Taylor! Lucky for us the next installment will be released in a few weeks. Keep your eyes open for The Director's Cut!

While James is away on business, Issy starts to question everything about their short-lived romance, until he returns and shows her how things would be like if she would submit to him. Sexy times indeed! Issy learns that James has moved the up schedule of the movie in order to keep one of his actors on track and away from questionable lifestyle choices. As a result, they head for the studios immediately. Issy learns that while filming, she'll be required to embrace The Berkeley Method in order to reach some of those emotions she keeps guarded so well. While James doesn't want to hurt Issy but bringing those emotions to the forefront, he is determined to bring out the best out of each of his actors and makes it clear to Issy that she has the depth of emotion that he has been looking for from his leading lady for years. While on set, James is determined to get the best of his actors, while off set, he is finding it hard to not allow Issy to get the best of him. He eventually realizes that it's too difficult for him to shun the way he truly feels and wants to let the world know. Issy doesn't want him painted in a bad light with the press and has reservations about making their relationship known. Throw on some suspense & drama that is brought on by other cast members and it's almost too much for such a young relationship to handle.

This was a fantastic addition to the series and I for one can't wait to read the next two installments!

How many sections does this story have to be broken up in to before we get to the part that Issy and James are able to be 'public'? I mean, good Heavens!

**Spoiler Alert (minor) below**

The book comes with a lot of great twists and turns. But with that be said, it still seems to be a foundation based book. I feel like I'm JUST now getting to the good, juicy details of the series and in comparison to other series, at this point, the foundation portion is well established and series is moving along.

It's a quick read and flows well but it's like the really, really good parts are the tail end of the book and then BAM! next page tells you to buy the next book in the series. I mean, come on!

Some thing tells me that Ben Gracey is going to have a somewhat large part in the next book seeing as there seems to be a lot focusing around how 'not right' he is in everyone's life. But on a happier note, I am thrilled that James has been able to come so far in his conquest of being a better man for Issy and has *Spoiler Alert* ..............pronounced his love for Issy. *And the crowd goes: AWWWWWWW!* I just want them to get married, have babies, and live happily ever after already! But of course, I want some juicer sex scenes because so far, they are still pretty tame when comparing to other reads and I want the damn movie to be filmed with JAMES being the leading male...what a surprise that would be, eh??

Well, on to book # 3 I suppose.

When I read a book about a dominant male I want to feel that dominance. I want to feel him ruling, prevailing but James Berkeley did not come across as an alpha male - nope he just did not do it for me.

The plot, was predictable and weak, the characters emotionless and so was the sex - it was not hot, it was just another clichéd story and as a reader of 50 shades of Grey I didn’t love this story.

We have read it before, struggling drama school graduate Isabella Green wants to be a script writer until she meets famous director James Berkeley. Tempted into the glamorous world of action she becomes his pawn.

I have to ask what dominant talks like this “you must grant me permission to take you out tomorrow night, so that I might persuade you to my way of thinking! Seriously? This guy claims to be a dominant male? What age is he? We get the usual scrip “I want to discipline you - if you don’t obey me I will punish you”

I just did not get the relationship between James and Isabella. It did not work for me and I didn’t think they clicked as a couple - maybe they will in book 2?

Not a hot read, not a good alpha, stereotypical. Apart from the fact I didn’t like this novel the deciding factor not to complete this trilogy was yet again we have another author who has decided to spin a trilogy into four books. I wont be looking for more.

Ok
Hmmm I'm still at lost don't understand why he have to check into rehab too when it's Natalie issues something isn't right but Isabella too busy falling in love to figure it out. Why is this chick all bent out of shape after a week of romance make no sense smdh.

I still need to know more about both character. but I'm getting into it. Natalie is mad annoying and is a straight diva especially for a washed up actress you would think she would appreciate this role.

Argh I am left with more questions than answers from book too. Hopefully book 3 will answer everything. James should have done get rid of that shame marriage with Madison.; before telling Issy he love her. Do we really need more of diva Natalie, unless there's a story between her and James. Could it be hmmm need book 3 to find out the answer.

Isabella learns more about James' kinky side in this book which makes it completely hot! But on the other hand the storyline isn't very intriguing. They arrive on the movie set & there is a stalker on the loose who likes new actresses which means he is after Isabella. James begins to reveal some of his past to Isabella & she falls deeply in love with him, willing to do just about anything he asks to prove he can trust her. But their relationship is difficult to hide & he is still married. The press will want to put Isabella in the role of a homewrecker if they found out so even though Isabella & James are moving closer to a real loving relationship they still have to keep it under wraps. I believe in the third book someone might find out about their relationship & cause waves?? I guess we'll see! Read this book for the hot kinky parts, which surprisingly Isabella finds totally erotic.

What I wanted was 4.5 stars. This continuation of the story os Isabela and James did not disappoint, I just would like Issy to get her head on straighter. Yes, she is falling fast and hard for James, but seriously who goes wandering in Camden, alone. Good lord she's lived in London how long? Yes, at a certain point in her life she lived a bit of a bohemian life, but pity sake, some common sense woman. As the strory progressed, I became less annoyed with Issy, especially as she began to explore parts of her she did know existed. James began to open more and not with quite as much effort as one would think. While damaged, not so broken that he is beyond repair. Of course the resident bitch shows herself, Natalie, in this installation of the series. I have a feeling we are going to find out in Director's Cut just how strong Issy truly is as Natalie is going to push the envelope.
