In 1891, Abraham Van Helsing and a group of friends faced Dracula, the world’s first vampire – and won. The survivors of that battle founded Department 19, and have been secretly saving the world ever since. A highly classified archive exists recording every act of bravery in that time.
That archive is now open. These are the Department 19 files.
London, 1919.
Safely returned from the killing fields of Europe, Quincey Harker is bored and restless, his mind full of the terrible things he has seen, things he cannot seem to forget. So when his father invites him to hear a proposition from him and his friends, Quincey is hopeful that a new project may be just the thing to take his mind off the monsters he encountered, terrible creatures that flew above the ground and killed without mercy. He has no idea quite how wrong he is…
Before quitting his job in publishing to write full time, Will Hill worked as a bartender, a bookseller and a door-to-door charity worker. He grew up in the north-east of England, is scared of spiders, and lives in east London with his girlfriend. He is a big fan of cats.
When Quincey Harker returns home from the front lines in 1919, he does so with knowledge of vampires. What he doesn’t know is his dad and friends already have a mysterious new project for him to help with.
And that’s how Department 19 was founded by the survivors of the original battle with Dracula!
Thoughts on this Series
Part of the series, The Department 19, by Will Hill, these novella are files from the department. Most of them fill us in on the background, like how the department came into being, who founded it, etc. Some are character studies and backstories. The department itself is a secret law enforcement agency keeping the human world safe from supernatural threats, formed by the OGs who fought Dracula way back when.
This is a series of Novellas that gives us readers a short back story of how Department 19 was started. I can't wait to read the second book, with the third book coming out soon!
This book was good. This book was slow to star but about half way through it got good. A good finish to the mini series. Can't wit to read the next book.
