Fifteen-year-old Tracy and her Mormon family move to California to be near her grandfather, whose illness and religious faith help Tracy through a difficult time in her life.
A book with a good balance between to-the-point and elaboration.
The writing is beautiful and the story is absolutely poetic. There are multiple vital lessons taught throughout the book, and you feel with the characters. It's as if a fragile line between you and the characters forms at the beginning of the book, and before you even reach the halfway point, it's become a steel cable. Very emotionally compelling in some parts- that cable truly does tie you to what happens in the story, and you feel every bit of it.
I was tentative to immerse myself into the story at the beginning, something about it made me feel as if it weren't going to be very interesting, but quickly I grew curious. Truly astounding writing.
First read this book in high school. Some of the things Tracy went through really struck a chord with me. I read it more than once. I read all the books in the series and this one was my favorite. Great feel-good stories with good values.
