Amazon best selling author L. L. Diamond is more commonly known as Leslie to her friends, and Mom to her three kids. A native of Louisiana, she has spent the majority of her life living within an hour of New Orleans until she followed her husband to the ends of the earth as a military wife. Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, England, Missouri, and now Maryland have all been called home along the way.
Aside from mother and writer, Leslie considers herself a perpetual student. She has degrees in biology and studio art, but will devour any subject of interest simply for the knowledge. As an artist, her concentration is in graphic design, but watercolor is her medium of choice with one of her watercolors featured on the cover of her second book, A Matter of Chance. She is a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America. She also plays flute and piano, but much like Elizabeth Bennet, she is always in need of practice!

>>SPOILER ALERT: This review may contain *** SPOILERS ***
>>Rating: M: MATURE: Do NOT neglect this warning. This was gripping and hardcore. Adult discussions and descriptions of a graphic nature made this not appropriate for young readers. The adult situations, of the underbelly of the haute ton, made my skin crawl. Yeah, it was disgusting that this kind of activity went on in the highest circles while they snubbed their nose at someone because they were in trade. >>Angst Level: medium-to-high as situations crashed and burned. The reveal was a bit shocking. >>Source: I borrowed this from KU on 6-26-23 and volunteered to leave a review of my thoughts and opinions. I waited hoping the third book would be close in following. I hate waiting for books in a series. I love these cousins and wonder which cousin will be featured in the next book? This is a close-knit and loving family and Diamond makes the reader want to be a part of their antics and relationships… I adored them.
“The loss of virtue in a female is irretrievable – that one false step involves in her endless ruin – that her reputation is no less brittle than it is beautiful – and that she cannot be too much guarded in her behavior towards the undeserving of the opposite sex.” –Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
DAMAGE CONTROL: We pick up where the last book left off with a lady’s reputation on the line.
The granddaughter of the Earl of Richmond, Lady Amelia Montford, had been in love with handsome Sir Anthony Greene since her first season. However, when he didn’t seem interested, she locked her affections away and simply enjoyed his presence as a dear friend. Over the next few years, they enjoyed each other’s company and he always danced the supper set with her at every function.
Then suddenly, out of the blue, their situation changed when Sir Anthony declared his affections during a ball. Amelia was caught completely off guard and was stunned by the revelation that his affections had been long-standing. What?!? She stormed off the dance floor and out to the balcony for air. She could not breathe. A concerned Sir Anthony followed her.
Her cousin Elizabeth and husband Darcy were also in the garden and they hoped their presence would prevent a scandal. The next day, they soon realized it was too late. The avalanche of gossip and innuendo regarding the couple being in the garden had already started and taken a tight grip on the ton. Even with Elizabeth and their grandmother adamantly stating that Elizabeth and Darcy had also been in the garden, they could not quell the rampant gossip. It had taken a surprising hold and they could not discover the source. The unhappy couple would have to marry in order to save her reputation and that of the family.
The story was about making a situation, completely out of control, work when the cards are not in your favor. I adored this couple. At first, I was frustrated as Amelia fought against her feelings. I so wanted it to work with Sir Anthony. He was so loving and caring. Then just when you thought it was safe to return to London, disaster struck. I was nearly sick when I discovered what was hidden under the shroud of secrecy with Sir Anthony’s father. OMG! That man was horrid. I loathed and hated him on Sir Anthony’s behalf. What a reveal.
Diamond nearly owed me a new reading device. However, I held on and didn’t throw it against the wall. It was a close call. Whew! I needed to rest after reading the angst of that part. Goodness. It was such a twist, creative but scary nonetheless.
The Montford Cousins Series: Book 1: An Endeavour to be Worthy Book 2: A Gentleman of Worth
Charming and Worthy Characters I was all anticipation waiting for this second book in L.L. Diamond’s series, The Montford Cousins. In book one, we learned that the eldest Bennet sisters were borne to Mr. Bennet’s first wife Sophie, daughter of the Earl of Richmond. She died giving birth to the Bennet heir who also did not survive. The first book focuses on Elizabeth and Jane’s introduction to London society as the granddaughters to an earl, and Elizabeth and Darcy’s courtship and marriage. If you haven’t read An Endeavour to be Worthy, or listened to that audiobook, I highly recommend doing so before starting A Gentleman of Worth, although it can be read as a stand-alone novel.
I have always been delighted with how Leslie Diamond creates very likeable and memorable secondary, non-canon characters to her Austen-inspired variations and this series is a testament to that. Book one introduced us to several new ones including the Earl and Countess of Richmond, Elizabeth and Jane Bennet’s grandparents. They are so dear and always protective of their girls. A Gentleman of Worth features two more charming characters to whom we were introduced in book one — Sir Anthony Greene, a baronet, and Lady Amelia Montford, orphaned daughter of the earl’s late son which makes her a cousin to Elizabeth and Jane. At her come out Amelia, then seventeen, became completely smitten with Sir Anthony and his dimples, but when he didn’t request a courtship, she resigned herself to it, “mended her broken heart and had learnt to call him her friend”.—quote is from the book
Unbeknownst to the lady, Anthony did in fact care for her but due to inheriting a legacy of debt incurred by his unscrupulous father, he was determined not to take a wife until the debt was paid and he could make his estate profitable again, able to well support a wife and family. We got hints of this in book one too. When the time comes for this ‘gentleman of worth’ to make his affections known, he does so at a ball. Lady Amelia is quite shocked and flees to the garden to gather her wits. Of course every good story must have a villain, and thus, an unknown gossip spreads the notion that their meeting in the garden had been an assignation which threatens to ruin Amelia’s reputation and ultimately forces them to marry. The reader is left wondering if Amelia will ever allow the love of her youth to once again possess her heart. Anthony is desperate to marry her, but doesn’t want her to be forced into it, especially if she doesn’t love him. A past paramour of Sir Anthony’s late father will surface to add another element of stress to this new dear couple’s peace.
I loved this brilliant forced marriage plot for a dear couple who actually love one another, even if one of them can’t acknowledge it right away. The chemistry between them is evident, and the love and camaraderie among all the cousins is fun and pleasing. This favourite author’s proficient writing style is always a given, and again, the estimable portrayal of all her characters and their development is always outstanding which endears the reader to them. Like Lady Rebecca in Ms. Diamond’s books An Unwavering Trust and An Earl’s Conquest, I will surely remember the Montfords of this captivating series with fondness. The newly wedded Elizabeth and Darcy also happily appear in this book, as do Jane and Georgiana, the latter two albeit briefly.
Now I find myself all in anticipation for an audiobook version too, as well as the next book in the series, which I expect to be about Amelia’s brother Nicholas, the viscount—but don’t quote me on that. Maybe it will be Jane?
Highly recommend Mature content
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily providing a review. I have also purchased the published ebook for my Kindle library.
October 19, 2023 - Audiobook An excellent narration by Deborah Balm. She has a lovely tone of voice for both the male and female characters and performs the emotions very well. I wouldn’t hesitate to listen to any audiobook she narrates.
This story was a great second book in the series and I’m really looking forward to the next book. Who shall it be? Jane? Nicholas? There are hints so you’ve got to read this one. When I heard about this story in the works, I was really excited that Elizabeth Darcy’s cousin Amelia was going to find her love. It jumped into action right from the beginning and Amelia and Anthony are thrown head long into a forced marriage after a ‘compromise.’ Since the conversation was a shock to our heroine the sped up marriage did not in the least make her happy.
Our H & h do come together after an idyllic escape to a country cottage, riding and walking the beach where the cottage is located. Amelia is holding something back though. Something she has to work through and having her family urge her to see how much Sir Anthony loves her and how lucky she is, and how she would hurt him doesn’t really help.
Anthony has some secrets to deal with too. And keeping those secrets lead to a disaster. A villainess has to be dealt with. Amelia has to trust someone outside the family to see this through, while Anthony is recovering from serious injuries. I loved the new characters in this book. Well, except for the bad ones.
It’s written exceptionally well. I can’t wait for the audiobook. 5 stars because I know I’ll want to reread this book. Highly recommended for JAFf readers, but such a great story I think it would appeal to Regency romance fans too.
This is book two of the Montford cousins which features Lady Amelia Montford and Sir Anthony Greene in a forced marriage scenario. They were always friends, but rumors can hurt and destroy. Can they overcome the issues the rumors caused? I enjoyed the growth displayed by both. There are many conflicts they have to overcome. I like a story when a couple can deal with them together.
There are glimpses of Lizzy, Darcy, Jane, and Nicholas. I look forward to the next story. Will it be the story of Nicholas or Jane?
This may take the whole day or a couple of afternoons to read. Enjoy!
Another absolutely fabulous and often amusing variation from the talented quill of L.L. Diamond. Her books are always a delightful gift to the reader. She’s an instant buy author since I know it’s worth every penny.
I did not like this as much as I did the first one. Amelia was very wishy washy. She loved Sir Anthony her first season but he didn’t offer for her so she just stopped loving him?
Then there were nefarious twins and sending a trouble making woman off to bother another country. I hate when it’s done to Wickham and I didn’t like this.
Very delightful series by L.L. Diamond. Amelia is Jane’s and Elizabeth’s cousin through their real mother who died in a tragic accident. The two are actually the grandchildren of a gracious and kind Earl. Amelia fell in love with Anthony at her coming out years before. But he was trying to bring up and bring back his estate after his father had wasted it through horrible habits…and could not offer marriage until he could afford to. This story takes us to present times where Amelia had given up, moved on and with a heart that had hardened. Plus, she and her brother had lost their parents in a tragic accident and had been raised by their grandmother and the Earl. Anthony works hard, is very handsome and kind. And he still loves Amelia. It is a lovely and moving P&P variation. I have read many, many variations…have been an ARC reader for some. But this series is one of the best.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is the second book of 5 in the Montford Cousins series. As the granddaughter of the Earl of Richmond, Lady Amelia Montford is never in want of dance partners. Even though she finds the gentlemen tedious, she is always guaranteed good company for one set, her dance with the agreeable and handsome Sir Anthony Greene. Despite falling madly in love with the dashing baronet during her first Season, Sir Anthony has become a devoted friend and confidante. Can Anthony thwart Lady Lincoln’s attempts to ruin his hopes of gaining Amelia’s regard? Can he prove himself a gentleman of worth? So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I highly recommend to everyone.
A continuation of the Montford family saga, this one focusing on Amelia Montford and her eventual marriage. It's strongly hinted at the close of book one that Sir Anthony Greene is paying particular attention to her, and it continues here. But due to an accidental situation at a ball, Amelia and Sir Anthony are forced to marry, not the most ideal way to end a courtship that Amelia wasn't even aware of. She thought of him as a close friend.
I like this author, and she's pretty much an automatic purchase for me. The Montfords are wonderful, amusing, and are easy to care about. The first book in the series, about Elizabeth and Darcy and the background of the Bennett/Montford relationship, was superb and romantic. The character of Amelia, while possessing some admirable traits, is more immature, and slightly annoying at times. I suppose a love affair that goes too smoothly would be boring, but Amelia's reasons for initially resisting her feelings for Sir Anthony were, I felt, kind of lame. Thankfully, she comes around before too long, but then begins the entry of the villain of the story, and I thought that this situation was also a bit lame. For those reasons I deducted a couple of stars.
The book is very well written and well edited. I recommend it highly for an interesting premise, and an enjoyable way to pass some time.
Another well-written book by LL Diamond. This second book in the Montford Cousins book focuses on Amelia Montford and Sir Anthony Green. He is finally ready financially for a wife, and has been in love with Amelia for years. She had been infatuated with him when she first came out, but when he never pursued her, she assumed he was not interested. Now he is finally ready, and is thrilled that Amelia is still unmarried. They were scandalously seen in a garden at a ball, and now they must marry. The rest of the book deals with their marriage.
The author always has interesting characters and stories, especially when she write a series of novels. The story is interesting without being melodramatic, and the reader becomes engaged with the main characters, even if they aren't Elizabeth and Darcy. :-) There is mention of a coming book 3 in the series, but I could not tell if the story will about Nicholas, Amelia's brother, or whether it will involve Jane Bennet. Either way, I hope both are planned, and I look forward to their stories.
This novel is the second book of the Montford Cousins series by LL Diamond. Ms. Diamond is one of my favorite Jane Austen Fan Fiction authors. This novel is the story of Sir Anthony Greene and Amelia Montford, Elizabeth Darcy's cousin. We read of their courtship, forced marriage and struggles as newlyweds. This is another wonderful novel by Ms. Diamond and I highly recommend.
This is my second of this series. The third of L.L. Diamond and have thoroughly enjoyed them. This volume has on editing error didn't deter my enjoyment.
