Aan de voet van het Andes-gebergte is Indiana Jones op zoek naar een spoorloos verdwenen vriend, een Amerikaanse geoloog. Na een spannende zoektocht vindt hij hem eindelijk in een heel klein dorpje van een primitieve Indianenstam. De man is echter ernstig ziek en sterft niet lang na de hereniging in Indy's armen. Het lukt hem nog net Indiana een merkwaardige amulet in de vorm van een gevederde slang te geven. Deze amulet blijkt het eigendom geweest te zijn van de hogepriester van de Maya's en de drager ervan zou er magische krachten aan kunnen ontlenen. Maar Indiana Jones brengt zij geen geluk. Al snel wordt hij het doelwit van de vijandige stam, die kosten noch moeite spaart het kleinood weer in bezit te krijgen.

About the author

Wolfgang Hohlbein is a German author of science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction who lives near Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia. His wife, Heike, is also a writer and often works with her husband. She often comes up with the story ideas and therefore is generally credited as co-author. Their daughter, Rebecca, is also a writer.

Writing short stories since age 15, Hohlbein was first recognized as an author after sending in a manuscript he and his wife had written at a fantasy and science fiction writing contest in 1982. They won and their book, Märchenmond (English title: "Magic Moon"), was published by Ueberreuter Publishing, soon becoming a bestseller and winning several awards. It is one of their greatest successes till today.

Many of his more than 200 books are translated and published in many European countries as well as in South Korea. Yet for many years none of his works had been translated into English. In 2006, Magic Moon was translated into English and published in the United States.

Een Indiana Jones volgens de verwachtingen - spanning en aktie van begin tot eind, mystiek, mooie vrouwen, enkele onverwachte plotwendingen... Een super boek voor wie - zoals ik - van het genre houdt.

There was an American set of Indiana Jones books and they sucked. The authors didn't seem to understand him, his history, or his character.

HOWEVER, I recently discovered that there was a German series of books that have been translated into English and so far they're great!

This book has everything:
- Exploding volcanoes!
- Casual racism!
- A hot, young blonde who Indiana runs around with.
- Surprise bad guys! (who were supposed to be good guys!)

Can't wait to read the next one.

Einer der schwächeren Indiana Jones Romane von Hohlbein. Die Story ist sehr drüber. Natürlich sollte ein guter Action Held auch mal einstecken können, aber was hier Indiana immer wieder, ohne Pause passiert ist schlichtweg unglaubwürdig. Die Action hat einfach keinen guten Ausgleich. Dadurch wird es schnell eintönig und es reiht sich Action an Action. Der Leser ist dazu, genau wie Indiana Jones, bis zum Schluss nicht im Bild worum es eigentlich geht. Außerdem ist Joana als Sidekick für den Großteil der Story einfach nur unsympathisch. Beides hat es nicht einfacher gemacht, das Buch zu beenden.

Boy was this bad.

Indy was bullied by a teenage girl as another review stated.

He is also constantly terrified, whispering, shivering, icy fear and getting his behind kicked all of the time.

I hope Hohlbein gets better because I will try to read the next one but I may go back to the one of the MacGregor books first.

Indy has an adventure against the fanatical followers of the Mesoamerican god, Quetzalcoatl, and also allows himself to be pushed around by a bratty teenage girl.
