Children adore creating things with their hands-give them paper, paints and glue and they will entertain themselves for hours on end, allowing their imaginations to run wild and producing decorative objects that will amaze you. Crafting is a wonderful way to encourage your children to express themselves--and, for children, the creative experience is every bit as important as the end result. Crafting with Kids by Catherine Woram is packed with 35 colourful and enjoyable projects for boys and girls. There are appealing ideas for great gifts, fancy-dress costumes, seasonal decorations and fun things to do on rainy afternoons. All the classic crafting techniques are covered, from potato prints to papier-mache, taking in sewing, collage, modelling, stencilling and much, much more along the way, all imaginatively photographed by Vanessa Davies. *Little hands will enjoy getting to grips with lavender bags, wooden-spoon puppets and snow shakers, as well as crafting felt flowers, balsa-wood cars, Easter bonnets and spooky Halloween masks! *Every project can be completed in five or fewer steps and most of them use materials that you're likely to have around the house. Just follow the simple step-by-step instructions and you can't go wrong!
For a book written in 2006, it leans very hard into gender stereotypes. I came across the phrase “Boys can decorate their books with boats, trains, or car shapes cut from brightly colored paper”. In addition, the boys are doing “boy” crafts and girls are doing “girl” crafts.
The crafts themselves are crafts most of us have done as children.
Great, simple ideas. There are new ideas, new ideas from an old idea, and old ideas that I just plain forgot about like pom poms, paper lanterns and paper chains. Great for the creative family! Great for all ages!
