Volume ten of the highly popular High School DxD light novel series takes a break from the life or death battles. Instead we have some payoff (finally!!!!) after so many volumes to the Rias and Issei romance. We also have Rias and her peerage taking on Sairaiorg Bael and his peerage in a youth match Rating Game.

A lot is on the line for both teams. Given that Sairaiorg and Rias are cousins, and he and Issei have become close friends, the emotions are high. Nonetheless, they have all resolved to fight as hard as they can in the matches upcoming.

I liked that Issei finally pulled a victory out of the hat here. He is great in real, life-or-death battles, but not so good at these matches, where things ranging from early weaknesses to lack of knowledge knocked him out in the end. It's a fun, not-too-serious volume, except for introducing the very awesome Sarariorg. That said, it's a fun, action-packed breather. Usually breathers are not action-filled, but this one is. That is it's charm, and why I enjoyed it.

This volume the Breast Dragon Emperor and the rest of House Gremory are prepping for their Rating Game match with Sairaorg of House Bael as well as the upcoming Cultural Festival at Kuou Academy. Also, Issei's cluelessness and lack of understanding a woman's feelings gets him in trouble with Rias. Personally, I find this series endlessly entertaining. It's the only LN series in which the children of the underworld chanting the word "Breasts" could be emotionally moving.
