Seressia Glass is an award-winning author of urban fantasy, contemporary romance and paranormal romance. Her current series include the Shadowchasers urban fantasy series and the Sons of Anubis paranormal romance series.
Seressia lives south of Atlanta with her guitar-wielding husband and two bulldozer cane corsos and a senior poodle. When not working on her next story, Seressia spends her free time watching way too much anime and Kdramas.
Loved how this all came together. I love a good secret society and in this book we get two. The magic was great, and I liked how everyone became stronger when they started working together. The conflict was something as old as time, but it still felt new.
Imaginative and entertaining, Glass’s series opener successfully delivers with fast-paced action and sizzling sensuality a captivating paranormal romance steeped in fantastic Egyptian mythology. Centuries ago, a tragedy caused dissolution of the collaborative alliance between the jackal shifters, Sons of Anubis, and powerful Egyptian priestesses, Daughters of Isis. In present day Atlanta, Markus Grant, leader of the Sons of Anubis, is sworn to protecting his clan and prevent the Lost Ones from returning to the land of the living. With his clan brothers succumbing to a deadly curse that smells like the spell of an Isis witch, Marcus kidnaps Tia Jensen to undo the spell. Tia, a Daughter of Isis, is both outraged and frighten at being a prisoner, her compassion makes her willing to use her magic to undo the evil spell insisting this is not the work of her coven. When Tia’s magical energy needs to be quickly replenished, her unusual erotic request for Markus becomes the spark that unleashes more than their passion and meshes their magic. So will the couple’s connection allow the jackals and witches get beyond the centuries of betrayal and hatred towards each other?
SEDUCING THE JACKAL is an easygoing read that still manages to be gripping as the plot moves along nicely and the characters develop in such a way that you are quickly invested in them. Markus is the ideal alpha hero that contrasts very nicely with Tia’s independent feisty spirit, and skillfully know just how to provoke her passion. As their passion deepens, the couple sees each other more than just a preconceived stereotype. Secondary characters add the necessary intrigue, conflict and fullness to the storyline and leaving the reader hoping you will see them again.
As this is a novella, Glass skillfully wastes no time in setting the story in motion and immersing the reader into her fascinating world. Using the characters to bring the reader up-to-date on the centuries old betrayal and introducing unexpected twists and turns in the present day provides the necessary tension to keep readers on the edge-of-their- seats. But a surprise element is how the punch of humor is combined with the action and romance to showcase the playfulness of the couple.
SEDUCING THE JACKAL, the first book in The Sons of Anubis series, is a gorgeous tale of love and making sense of the past with a wonderful mixture of action, dynamic characters and bold passion. This is a welcome addition to the paranormal romance genre.
I liked Tia and Markus a lot and pretty much immediately.
Markus is loyal to the Jackals he leads to take on the lost one. Two jackals are in need of healing and Tia is enlisted, albeit in not the most respectful of ways. However, Tia is compassionate and is able to see past Markus’ actions to offer assistance.
Things get intimate quickly, but there is a believable reason that only a paranormal read can pull off.
For this being a short read, Tia’s character shows some growth and big changes happen because of it.
This book surprised me. When it was over, I wanted more!
For a short story it sure had a lot of action. There is kidnapping, intrigue, traitors and of course romance. Tia, daughter of Isis and Markus, son of Anubis, work together to save the Jackals, and finally work as allies like they did many years ago. Of course, the kidnapping did not help make everything go smoothly. Overall, an interesting story.
This short novella is filled with action and passion. Centuries ago, the Daughters of Isis (witches) and the Sons of Anubis (jackal shifters) worked together to protect the living from the Lost Ones. Then tragedy struck and they became enemies. Current day jackal shifters are dying from a curse they believe the witches cast. Jackal leader Markus kidnaps witch Tia to force her to break the curse and heal his warriors. Markus and Tia must work together to save the men. The chemistry between the two is off the charts and the sex scenes are hot. Seressia Glass does a good job of world building for such a short book. I recommend this to everyone who likes paranormal action/romance books with a large dose of spice.
i have been wanting to read this ever since Seressia first mentioned wirting it. the only regret i have is waiting so long to finally get around to reading it. I love the ancent enemies to lovers trope. I also like how the she treats the whole Kidnapping thing. she manages to make it interesting with out being stockholm syndrome-y. (dont @ me, Tia would have helped if they had asked nice so it's not the same) I love the quick and compact story telling. the pacing was perfect, saying a lot with just a few well done scenes. I like that there are no wasted words. That being said... I really want more. good thing for me, there are more!
Quick, steamy read. (I'm a sucker for sex and magic mixed together.) I enjoyed the Egyptian mythology underpinning this paranormal world. Strong beginning. Because of the novella length both the action and the romance moved at a fast clip, which had the side benefit that the characters (who start on opposite sides of a conflict) had to listen to each other and be reasonable instead of pigheadedly insisting their side was right!
For many years the jackals and the withes have been enemies after centuries of working together. It would have continued but some of the jackals have fallen under a curse. Marcus, leader of the jackals kidnaps a witch named Tia from the coven he feels is responsible for the curse. Tia and Marcus will have to find a way to work together if they are going to save the are going to save the jackals and their futures. Nice introduction to this series
A deadly curse, a kidnaped witch, a clan of Jackal Shifters and add a history with Egyptian priestess and you have a great story! A quick read that holds a great storyline. Loved meeting the characters and watching the exchanges between Tia and the others in the Clan. Excited to read the others in this series to see the evolution of the other relationships.
Excellent. First book I've read by this author which I picked up on an impulse. I then devoured the rest of the series. It's a different take on shifters, magic, and the paranormal. I absolutely adored it.
This book had action from the beginning. I enjoyed that both of the leading characters were strong in their own way - almost equals. Loved the mythological piece of it. Loved that together the couple was even stronger. It was a great read for me.
This book was quick, steamy, and fast paced. I liked Tia and Markus together. I also loved all the mythology and backstory to their characters. I picked up this book to read something quickly, but now I want to read more in the series!
And so starts a series that promises fun, action and some serious romance. The Sons of Anubis is the new series by Seressia Glass with the first book Seducing the Jackal making an impressing debut.
The core of the story is a new take on the ancient Egyptian myths focusing on the God Anubis, protector of the dead, and Isis, Goddess of motherhood, fertility and magic. The Sons of Anubis and Daughters of Isis in this lore have been allies once upon a time, fighting side by side with the Sons hunting the unwilling dead and taking them back to the afterlife and the Daughters protecting/healing the Sons. However a tragedy severed the bond that once united them and now, through four millennia the Jackals and the Priestesses are in animosity.
This story begins with Markus, the leader of the Jackals, kidnaping Tia, a Daughter of Isis, in order to make her undo the curse that has befallen onto two of his brothers. Markus is convinced that the Daughters have cursed his Jackals for revenge and Tia, although willing to help, cannot agree with him, even though all evidence leads to that conclusion. To make matters worse there is this huge sexual intensity between them, something they haven’t felt before. But the Jackal and the witches are enemies and anything between them is impossible… Isn’t it?
This story really appealed to me; I cannot help melting into a puddle when ancient myths are involved and I have to say this take is more than alluring. The power chemistry between Markus and Tia is absolutely wonderful, the story starts with a great deal of animosity putting both characters simultaneously into a fight mode and enhancing their appeal, but when the hormones start flying and the sexual intensity rises then there is this fantastic spark that electrifies the entire plot and you with it.
Tia as a character is brilliant what with her powers being hidden beneath and manifesting in huge amounts the more her passions grow. As for Marcus, dear Gods, what a character, how magnificent, makes one wish he wasn’t a fiction character but indeed alive. I loved them both and boy, did they feel perfect for each other.
The story becomes even better when action takes place and the fighting that I wouldn’t have expected actually happened. I think that is exactly what made me a fan of this newborn series, the fact that it has more depth and action than just romance. I can’t wait to see how the story will continue. Hooking indeed.
So I will recommend this to all you that love a good romance tinged with some action and back by a brilliant lore, all wrapped in crackling heat and intense sensuality.
For a story that is only 65 pages this packs in a whole lot. This is the story of a shifter who was gifted the ability by the God Anubis, it's their job to keep the souls who try to escape their fate int eh Halls of judgement from coming back and harming the human world. This was a sacred duty they had with the Daughters of Isis, Priestesses blessed by the Goddess. Over a thousand a years ago the alliance broke and they have been battling each other and the Lost Ones.
When a Son of Anubis falls beneath a curse their leader determines that a Daughter of Isis will help save them and a plan is hatched. This story flew by so quickly and at the same time I couldn't wait to find out what was happening. Markus is bent of saving his people from this curse and determines that Tia is going to help. Tia wants to help but she's living apart from her family and coven for a reason, he's picked the weakest among the Coven and she can't help him.
I absolutely loved that this was an erotic story. Short, to the point with a great paranormal twist to it and of course again in the world of the Egyptian Pantheon. I loved Tia who wanted to help and wanted to protect her people while realizing there was more going on than they all realized. When the curse begins to unravel, enemies unknown come forward and Tia & Markus are forced to work together. I love the 'enemies to lovers' trope and it's done so well in this one.
I highly recommend this one. Very erotic, quick read with a great plot with a wonderful new world to explore.
★★★★☆ Erotic Rating ★★★★★ 5 ~ Extra Steamy: great story excellent plot, amazing sex scenes RECOMMENDATIONS The Shadowchaser series LA Banks Vampire Huntress series Happy Reading my loves,
Centuries ago the Daughters of Isis and the Sons of Anubis worked together to prevent the dead from returning to the land of the living. But a horrific rift leaving two of their number dead. The daughter believe they were betrayed by the Sons. The Sons believe they were he victims of treachery. Whatever the truth, now the two sects are mortal enemies.
Markus is a Jackal shifter and son of Anubis who is determined to destroy the witches of Isis once and for all. They have set a terrible curse on members of his pact and he must have it lifted before it can infect them all. He and his pack seek to kidnap one to lure the rest.
But the one they end up with, Tia, is comes as a surprise to Markus. Not only is she not an evil witch, she is determined to help them lift their curse.
This was a nicely, tightly written novella that feels like a full story. Tia and Markus tussle and argue over ancient history and whose clan was the most wronged. It is obvious they both have the story wrong as we find out later. But until then, they have to first get very hot for each other and resolve to fight for each other instead of against. The book ends on a nicely climactic fight/confrontation between the two warring factions and a centuries old truth is revealed.
Even though the story isn't full length, the romance is convincing and I was pleased with it. I also enjoyed the Egyptian mythology. It is always nice to see some other types of mythologies explored that just Greco-Roman.
The story is complete but the main villain is still at large so I suspect there might be sequels. I hope so. I liked my intro to this universe.
Many multi-cultural books are cliche’ and use a lot of slang and stereotypical behavior to make up for the lack of plot. Happily this was not the case with Seducing the Jackal. This book was a welcome surprise. I love mythology and history. The author used both to create a well-written action packed multi-cultural romance. Egyptian mythology hasn’t been used enough as a wonderful tapestry for paranormal and multi-cultural romance. I was glad Glass took the challenge and made that particular mythology brand such an integral part of Tina and Markus’s story.
When Tia, the heroine and a member of the Daughter of Isis coven, is kidnapped she expects her captor to be a brute. However she’s surprised to find that her captor Markus, is devastatingly handsome, intelligent and the leader of Sons of Anubis. The chemistry between these two is amazingly explosive! The author does a great job of making it seem natural and not rushed. The conflict between The Sons of Anubis and The Daughters of Isis adds to the problems they face and has the potential to end their budding romance before it actually begins.
I recommend this book and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it- the plot, the hero/the heroine (and the supporting characters), and the story’s foundation. Tia and Markus are honorable characters whose powers weren’t overzealous. They are great together (in bed and out). In summary this was a sexy, easy read that will leave readers fully satisfied. I’m excited that this book is part of a series and can’t wait to read the next story.
Blurb: Centuries ago, tragedy severed the alliance between the jackal shifters and powerful Egyptian priestesses. But when four of his brothers succumb to a deadly curse, clan commander Markus kidnaps one of the witches and insists she undo the evil magic.
Although Tia can undo the curse, she insists her coven is not behind it—and she is shaken to her core by her intense attraction to her captor. The sparks between them quickly ignite, filling them both with passion and power unlike anything they've ever known. Will it be enough to heal the rift between their peoples?
The good: I found this to be a really solid read. The author is a good writer with a strong voice. Her characters are well thought out with understandable motivations. In other words, as readers we’re provided enough back story to understand the why the characters choose the decisions they do. I also liked that the story focused more on the relationship between the H/H and not so much on the mythology of ancient Egyptian deities. And Tia’s power, YASSS! I love the whole situation (You have to read it or visit my blog to figure out what I’m talking about).
I found a few problems, so I can’t use the term ‘bad’ A few minor grammatical errors The story was a little predictable
I’m jus sayin: ****spoiler alert*** Sexual energy feeds her power ( How Awesome!)
The Sons of Anubis (The Jackals) and the Daughters of Isis (The Witches) have always worked together in harmony, but now it seems the Witches are killing the Jackals. The Jackals plan on kidnapping a witch out of necessity since the some of the Jackals have become ill to the point of death, and some even dying. They need a witch, and the one they chose is not an ordinary witch. Tia is the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, but she feels weak, since she shows no outstanding powers that she should.
Markus, the leader of the Jackals, knows that there is more to Tia, but he really needs her to leave the hatred of their people behind so she can save his friends and family from what ails them. What will happen when two sworn enemies join forces? Also, what will happen when they find out more than they ever imagined?
This is a great fast-paced read that is difficult to put down. The passion, history and characters make you feel so many emotions like anger, hurt, and joy. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style, and how she wrapped it in a tight bow, with a string that could lead to another book! I highly enjoyed Seducing the Jackal, and hope for a sequel. I will be putting Seressia Glass at the top of my list of books to look out for.
Seriously this book was the bomb.com my first read by this author. I had no idea it is a series, so I will be off to purchase the rest of the books in it.
Markus is a Jackal shifter (very interesting) what I enjoyed about it was he wasn't a wolf shifter. Not that I don't love my wolves because I do. I just loved the fact of who would have thought of writing a story about a Jackal shifter and not just an ordinary Jackal but a Son of Anubis. This story originated from Egypt where the Daughter of Isis Witches and the Jackals the Sons of Anubis once lived in peace because of the mating of a King Jackal and the High Priestess. But treachery and betrayal would cause a several millennium war to erupt between these two.
It took Markus who is the Alpha of the Jackals to steal a daughter of Isis not too torture her but for her to help heal two of his fellow beta Jackals. What happens next between these two is nothing short of power so strong and potent that neither one of them could deny the other. But could these two end a war so deep and strong, also to end a lie that has existed between the two camps?
Have these two found each other to only possibly be ripped apart?
Hopefully my review will cause you to want to go out to download the book.
I was actually really surprised by this book. I picked it up to read because it was the genre I like to read most often. I must say, I really enjoyed this story. I enjoyed the characters, the plot and the premise of the story. I loved that included ancient African (Egyptian) deities and characters that were noble and powerful. I love the fact that the behaviors and attitudes were not over the top. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times even. This was a quick easy read and it was complete enough to leave you satisfied and not disappointed. I look forward to reading some of Ms. Glass's other books. I would definitely recommend this book.
I loved it!!!! Ms. Glass has been one of my favorite authors and this does not disappoint. I am so glad to see a different tale being told. Tia is a Daughter of Isis and Markus is Son of Anubis, protectors of ancient Egypt. A betrayal causes allies to become enemies. So much more could be said, but read this first book in the series. It was a quickie, but the ending will leave you satisfied and ready for part two.
3.25 stars. Paranormal romances are always fun and interesting and this story was no exception. Marcus Grant, a jackal and leader of the Sons of Anubis, and Tia, a witch in the coven of The Daughters of Isis, have a strange romance-if you can call it that. Marcus kidnaps her to get her to use her powers to break a curse on the jackals cast by the witches. She seduces Marcus because her powers are activated via sexual contact-so, love follows.
I think this book suffers from what a lot of novellas do. It was too short! I loved the use of Egyptian myths and the world Glass created was interesting. I didn't really connect with Tia or Markus. Their connection felt forced. In a longer book they could've worked as a couple. Here it just seemed they hooked up because the story said so.
I liked the author's style and look forward to seeing what she does with more space to let a story unfold.
Loved these honourable personalities. This is a gripping and exciting start to a new series and what a start! The sexual tension was evident from the moment our two characters were alone after Markus kidnapped Tia. Loved it!!
Egyptian history dealing with the Sons of Anubis/Daughters of Isis. I loved it from beginning to end... A must read! Markus and Tia were great together
