A hunky fire chief and a young recruit fight for love and justice amidst the blazing Arizona heat.

Fire chief Eric was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona, where he’s served his city for many years as a firefighter. He loves his family, his job and the history of his hometown. He’s also recently come out of the closet after twenty years of marriage, and both his wife and son don’t want anything to do with him. If that wasn’t enough, one of the city’s bigoted residents has a vendetta against him, and someone is setting fire to Mesa’s most beautiful historical buildings.

Tom, a young firefighter from Texas, is desperate to get away from his dad’s vicious homophobia that’s been directed at him because of his bisexuality. His heart is also on the mend after catching his boyfriend cheating on him. Tom takes a temporary position in Mesa, where he sets his eyes on the most gorgeous male specimen he’s ever seen in the form of the fire chief, Eric Anderson. At first convinced that the chief is straight, he’s stunned and pleased to discover his assumption was wrong when he accidentally catches Eric alone with a guy one night.

All Eric wants is to regain the peace and stability he’s always treasured in his life. But shortly after the attractive new recruit shows up, he expresses interest in Eric. Determined to do the right thing and put Tom out of his mind, he instead finds himself drawn to the sexy firefighter. When more structures burn at the hand of a mysterious arsonist and accusations fly, will any chance they have at love be ended before it starts?

Oh, how I love my firefighters, so I really, really wanted to love this book. I pre-ordered it, got on the VIP list to get it early and started reading it the day I downloaded it because I was so excited. But sadly, it was a disappointment. There was too much casual sex, MC Eric's ex-wife was too much of a bitch, MC Tom was too much of a doormat, I didn't believe the insta-love for one minute, the bigoted community members were a laughingstock and the arson sub-plot was ridiculous and far too easy to solve.

Cannot recommend. It just wasn't worth the time or money. I gave it 2 stars, with an extra star because it revolved around firefighters.

1. Pick a completely in love hetero couple.
2. Now, remove breasts and vagina and replace with penis.
3. That sums it up.

Had to abandon

Not a bad start for this MM firefighter series. There was some insta-love happening...but I got past that. And practically every other character in this book were homophobic fuckers! Seriously...

Firemen. Definitely one of the top five sexiest jobs ever. So when I read the description about this first book in a series and I saw it involved two firemen plus a May to December romance I was desperate to read it. Since it was also listed on the to-read pile of a friend I trust, I figured I couldn't go wrong. This is a new author to me, but one of the first things I noticed is her sense of humor and her wit is quite dry which makes it even better.

Eric has just ended a twenty year marriage because when the marriage counselor told him to be honest, well, he told the truth. Not exactly what his wife wanted to hear that her husband had always been gay. Eric has an employee out for a couple of months with a replacement coming in from Texas, the local crazy has decided that Eric needs to be fired as fire chief because he must be up to no good being gay, and someone is running around the city setting arson fires. Life is not so great for Eric right now.

Tom has finally gotten out of Texas away from his homophobic, judgmental father after his gram dies because she was the only reason Tom stayed. His relationship had ended when Tom figured out that his boyfriend didn't really want to settle down and be an adult. So now Tom is on his way to Mesa, Arizona to fill in for a firefighter and hopefully find a permanent place to call his own. Meeting Eric, his hot, straight chief hits all of Tom's switches and later that night, when Tom inadvertently discovers Eric is gay, sends Tom into orbit.

With everything going on Eric has made the decision to not get involved with anyone until the arsonist can be caught, his ex-wife released from suspicion, and his son speaking to him. That resolve doesn't last long when he and Tom hit it off and Eric finds what he has always wanted: someone to share his whole life and self with. Of course none of this comes without a price and a lot of pain and betrayal but it was fun watching the whole situation evolve. There was a little ridiculousness in some of the scenarios but I ran with it and had fun with the story and some cheesy dialogue as a whole. And the two firemen were smoking hot together!

This wasn’t at all your ordinary hot hunky firemen plot; oh, don’t get me wrong, Eric, the fire chief of Mesa, Arizona, is hunky enough, but truth be told, he isn’t exactly an hero. A closeted man until the age of 42 years old, he did come out only cause his marriage counselor told him he had to be open honest with his wife if he wanted to safe the relationship, and instead his wife filed for divorce. Well, discovering your husband is gay, and has always been, even before they married, isn’t an easy news to digest. Doesn’t matter Eric was always faithful in body, he wasn’t in feelings, and in a way, I understand his wife. To a point, cause how she behaves after that is a little too much, even for my sympathetic understanding. If that wasn’t enough, Eric got involved with his own son’s friend, a twink that now is basically molesting him, threatening to reveal their affair. And to add a cherry on the top, Eric begins an office affair with the new recruit the very first day he is in the office. Well, let talk about problematic heroes… in a way, Eric is a so wrecked hero that I wanted to pat him on the shoulder and comfort him, that something good had to happen sooner or later, cause worse than that was really difficult to achieve.

Maybe that was also what Tom, the new recruit, saw, other than the hot hunky exterior, that was in any case a good sight. It’s obvious that Tom has a problematic relationship with his own father, so I don’t exclude he is projecting a little on Eric, seeing him like a protective fatherly figure; sure, Eric is attractive enough, that is also a factor to take into account, but the immediate attraction, and the deep connection they have is well beyond the good looks of Eric. At the same time, I don’t exclude that Eric is searching in Tom his lost family, the feeling of being welcomed back at home, someone with whom he can relax and enjoy the second youth he is experimenting right now, cause he did pretty much screwed the first one he had.

Sorry to say but I was disappointed with this. I love a sexy fireman story and this had a decent premise but I just couldn't connect to the story or the main characters. Not a horrible story by any means but it lacked that extra bit of pizzazz to take it above being mediocre. I didn't think the insta-love worked well in this case and I wasn't shocked or surprised when the perpetrator was revealed. Shame because I think it had potential. Not for me this time but the writing style has a nice easy flow to it so I wouldn't not try another by this author if the blurb spoke to me.

2.5 stars.

While I really liked the blurb, the execution of this story left me wanting. The dialogue was quite stiff and full of soppy endearments (which I normally don't mind at all but there were just too many too fast), the pacing was off, characterisations cliched, and we didn't even meet the evil-doer until he was caught!

I had high hopes for this but was left feeling let down and trying to remember the last time I read a great book published by Total E-Bound.

I thought this was a pretty good book. And who doesn't love some sexy as hell gay firefighters? I was pretty sure I knew how the book story was going to play out but it was still good. I was shocked about who the arsonist was though.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3. I loved the premise of this book, and some parts we're really good, but the I'm in love after 2 days and the obviousness of where this was going and by whom was a little blah for me. His ex wife was a mega bitch. I get why she was so upset but get over yourself lady.

Maybe 2.5, 2.75? I wanted to enjoy some hot firefighter love but this was too much on the insta-love. The first time (openly bi - credit there) Tom (25) is in the room with Eric he can't even concentrate (it's his new boss and he's springing a boner within seconds) as is Eric. Eric is 42, recently felt pressured by his marriage counselor to come clean and told his wife he's gay. All hell broke lose, she hates his guts, wants to take him down, his college age son won't even speak with him, there's some other homophobe in town who every two weeks tries to get him fired at the city council meeting. Crazy. Oh and Tom's father (whom we never meet) is also a bigoted asshole. They are thick in the south I guess.

It was too much insta-love. Within a week, despite spending little time with his boss (most fire fighters don't I presume), Tom is sure he's in love and Eric suspects like-wise. Before long Eric's wife is a suspect in a series of arsons, she'd rather sit in jail on her ass than cooperate with her "fag" husband. Yeah. Life sucks. So they hook up and within two days are kissing each other in public, admitting they are boyfriends as an alibi and about 3 days after that are planning on getting a place together and have long admitted their deep and undying love and that they know the other person is perfect for them despite Eric's shit-storm of a life. His son is a homophobic prick as well it seems.

It was just too much too fast. There were a few good guys. Some of the fire fighters who supported Eric and were friends with Tom even if they were gay. But the bad guys were incredibly bad and OTT homophobic that it was kind of in your face. Guess they exist but it seemed like a high percentage of Mesa, Arizona are dicks.

So yeah, I was more interested in who the arsonist was than the romance, because when you've decided you're both in love after being in the same room for 10 min. There's really no question there except for lots of self-indulgent "oh my god, what if he doesn't like me now and wants to break up with me" on both sides with little evidence of it. Eh. Just not for me.

This was a reread for me and still interesting. The sex was outrageous! The fire chiefs language was a bit too goody-goody AT FIRST. I appreciate that wording in dealing with a public official so I got over it quick. Depending on what it's about, I'd read the next!

A great final book for the series as the mystery is solved.
I grabbed this one after reading book 1 and loving it. I wanted to read the chief's romance which is included in this one.

Tom was new to the firehouse after leaving his home town to restart his life again. Tom was 28 yrs Bisexual and a fully trained firefighter.
Homophobic slander included from Tom’s father and he’s subjected to it again later in this story.

Chief Eric 42 yrs was a newly divorced man after coming out as gay to his family, which didn't go well. Having a tough situation with an out of control fire bug in the town gave him a headache or two lol.

A fast connection made from Tom as he lusts over his new boss. I didn't like Fento in the first book and it goes double now as Eric’s job is on the line because of the jerk.
Scenes progressed with them getting to know each other. The ending was climatic as dramas played out with the arsonist identity being revealed. Hot sexy switching scenes with the chief learning his dream can come true with an HEA finish.

This is a well written MM romance with strong characters in Eric and Tom. The author takes you into their lives with drama, suspense and intrigue. Add in the heat, humor and love and she delivers a terrific read with perfectly painted scenes. I enjoyed reading their story.

5 star review by Kimberley

Every now and then, I’ll read something from a particular author and enjoy their work to the point where I will start to seek out more of their work. This is one of those instances. I loved these characters. Here you have Eric who is a somewhat buttoned up fire chief newly divorced from his wife after he revealed to her that he was gay. He’s a father of an adult son and his life is a bit lonely. This man is by no means perfect; he is this flawed man who has made mistakes in his life and the only thing he could do at this point is live with them and try to make them right. He thought he was doing the right thing by being honest with his wife but of course in the process ends up hurting her. He understood this, and worked hard to try to do right by his wife and his son even though her bitterness makes it difficult for him to do so at times. He understood that by revealing his sexuality, he was going to ruin his marriage but he could not live a lie anymore. He’s made mistakes and is trying to make up for them. Even though you understood that his ex wife was hurting and bitter, her attitude and the way she poisoned her son against him made it difficult for me to feel any sympathetic for the ex-wife. And the son to me was equally an ass but I understood that both of these characters’ actions came from feeling hurt and betrayed.

Then there is Tom, a 28-year-old man who’s quite mature for his age actually, who is looking for that one person to love and who loves them back. Tom is lonely as well, and decided to make a fresh start after his grandmother passed away. He moves to Mesa after he is offered a job in the fire department and it’s instant attraction with them falling in love soon after. These two men have quite a bit in common and it’s because of this you don’t mind the age gap. In fact the age gap wasn’t even noticeable because Tom’s character was so mature.

The writing was spot on perfect for me: it wasn’t sappy, it wasn’t ridiculous or anything like that. There were an entire cast of background characters that introduced seamlessly into the story. The sex was hot and tastefully written; there were no crude or childishly vague words to describe body parts or ridiculous dialogue to accompany the sex scenes. The mystery and events surrounding the arson was well played, Knight didn’t drag it out or sensationalize it. I also like how she choose to end the book. The HFN ending was more realistic than it would have been had it been a HEA. I feel that by the way she did she left it open for us to go back and revisit the unresolved issues between his ex-wife and son. Looking forward to reading more about these men.

When I read Daryl and Zach's story, I thought Tom was a sweet young man, and with Eric, they were perfect together, so it came as shocking news to me when Tom just did that!!!

Before we talk about Tom, I would like to talk about Eric first. His act with Brad for the first time was understandable because he was in a vulnerable state and lonely after the divorce from his wife after 20 years of marriage. But when Tom caught him with Brad in his office, that was unacceptable. Eric was stupid or horny as fuck to let Brad just do as he pleased with him. Eric didn't learn his lesson!

It turned out that Tom was a lot worse than Eric, even the worst. Because the author described him as not the type to do casual, when Tom did just that—casual and not with Eric—I'm very disappointed and very mad at him.

It happened when Tom said to Eric that he liked him, but Eric politely turned him down. Tom was so heartbroken. So, when some guy picked him up after Eric just left the bar, Tom agreed to do the casual, and holy fuck, I didn't expect the author to write Tom having sex with that guy in details! I didn't even think that Tom would agree to it!!! I thought he would back out at the last minute, but no, he was fucked, and he did enjoy it too!!! Fucking unbelievable!!!!

The very next day, Eric got a change of heart and was ready to accept Tom as his lover. Tom invited him or Eric asked Tom; I didn't know which, but Eric went to the motel where Tom was staying because there were no condoms, so no penetrative sex, and they were making out instead.

Oh my! I just can't believe Tom had the audacity to make out with Eric just after he was fucked in the same room by some random guy from a bar! I thought Tom would never tell Eric about that one hook-up, but eventually Tom told him. It didn't change my opinion of Tom's character. I really hate him!

Tom was fucked by someone other than Eric, which was a total deal-breaker!

I've read in some books that the MC was having sex with another man, but not in full details like this!

Don’t give up the fight
Fire chief Eric has just got out of a marriage He had no right to be in really, because he knew he was gay, but decided to stay in the marriage for his son. It soon became well known where he lived why the marriage hadn’t worked, Eric had lost friends, because of this reason. And that wasn’t the only problem there was an arsonist who was destroying historical places that really meant something to Eric, so he was trying to figure out who was behind it. And there was talk of him to be fired from his job by one man who was making his life a misery.
Tom was excited to move to Mesa Arizona to get away from his homophobic father who enjoyed nothing more than putting him down, making his life hell, so now he was on his own, and the main reason he felt he could leave was because he lost his Gram. And that was the only reason keeping in there. Tom has a problem because when he goes to report for duty it becomes plainly obvious that he is attracted to his new fire chief, but Tom has been hurt before by his ex and didn’t wanna act on it, but he couldn’t stop his attraction. But when Tom observes an incident one evening in the fire chiefs office. It means that these two have to talk about it and that just leads them to spend more time together, and it quickly becomes obvious that Eric has feelings for him too, but with everything going on in Eric‘s world could he trust his heart to someone else??
I have got to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Eric and Tom are just perfect for one another. They are exactly what they’ve each have been looking for. They have chemistry they have connection and let’s be honest when they’re together the passion is just off the charts. There’s a lot going on in this book so be ready to be lost in their world, you will not be disappointed.

Tom left his old life behind after his grandmother died. He has taken a temporary job in Arizona while he figures out what he wants to do next. Eric is trying his best to be a good father after his marriage imploded. He is struggling since coming out as gay. When the two men meet, the attraction is immediate. Have they found their perfect match, or will their budding relationship go up in smoke?

Both Tom and Eric are good characters. They have backstories that are well thought out and help the reader to understand their actions. Neither man is exciting but they both feel very real. I liked the side characters and how they interacted with Tom and Eric even the really annoying ones. There is a side plot of some bigots being cruel to Eric that I thought was a good addition. I liked the story of the bad guy. The fact that there was someone burning down historical buildings in the city was a really good addition to the story. And when the bad guy was revealed, I was happy with the conclusion.

The one weak area in the story was Eric's ex-wife. I am not going to go into detail, but I was hoping for more about her. She is kind of a side note in the story but his relationship with her drives a lot of his actions.

This is a contemporary older man/younger man love story set in Arizona. This is a short story so don't expect a lot of character development and deep details. This is a stand-alone story. I will read more from this author in the future.

Moving On . . .

Fire Chief Eric has a number of things to deal with. His wife and son want no further relationship with him now that he has told her the truth about his “preferences” (which he had never acted on). He is getting unwarranted attitude from certain people. And an arsonist is trying to burn down the town!

Tom Sherwood is a firefighter on his way from Texas to start his life over without the constant harassment from his father. With a cheating ex in his past, it’s definitely a good time to leave. He has no one to make him want to stay. When he arrives at the station, he is immediately drawn to Fire Chief Eric Anderson, but is not sure he is ready for another try at love. Yet he has captured Eric’s attention as well. Will they overcome their hesitation to start something? Is it even proper to fall for the boss?

I found this book to be a little too harsh in the telling. It would have meant more if the author helped the reader make a connection to the characters, to like them and care about them, before piling up the negatives and attitudes that did not encourage continuing the story line. The empathy or friendship needs to be established first so that readers don’t see the character as an anonymous stranger but as someone we know who doesn’t deserve the judgment others so quickly toss at them. No one ever deserves such treatment, but it has more of an impact in the story when we want to jump in and stand up for a friend. Too much too soon maybe?

This was a short book, more a novella then a novel but I enjoyed it. Tom and Eric where a good match and I felt bad for Eric with all he was going through, the divorce, his ex-wife being so hateful to him, his son shutting him out and the town eccentric trying to lose him his job just cause he's gay. He really went through the ringer in the story.
Tom was a good guy though and he was really there for Eric, giving him support through it all. I wanted to slap Eric's son Matthew for what he said to Tom and frankly I blame Charlene, Eric's ex-wife, for most likely encouraging Matthew's attitude/hatred and for keeping Eric away. I mean I felt for Matthew too, he's a victim for circumstance and being influenced while very vulnerable, I'm sure he'll regret what he said to Tom and was speaking out of anger, confusion and a desire to make someone else feel his pain, however he still shouldn't have spoken to Tom that way.
My only complaint is I would have liked to know if there was gonna be any resolution between Eric and his son, maybe in an epilogue or something but maybe we'll see something in a later book in the series if the author stays with the same group of characters. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting to have Matthew suddenly having a major change of attitude with a snap of the fingers, I just would have liked to see him agreeing to family counselling or to try and talk with his father and Tom, for his fathers sake if nothing else.

I wanted to like this one. I was rooting for it, despite the low rating. I have to say though that I agree with the majority on this one.

The insta-love did not work for me in this.

I kind of wanted more from Tom's dad. I should probably go hide from that one, but it's true.

Also, there was one scene that REALLY bothered me

Oh and what about Eric's bitch ex?

Overall, too many things left. I think this had great potential, but there was just too much left unsaid.

Chief Eric Anderson is the older in this age-gap pairing but Tom Sherwood just comes across as the wiser of the two. Tom has suffered from his father's bullying prejudice of his being bisexual resulting in Tom, suffering from his beloved Gram's death, leaving Austin, Texas for the supposed greener pastures of Mesa AZ. Little is Tom aware of how fateful this temporary firefighter job is until he meets Firefighter Chief Eric Anderson. Eric's strong character is exemplified by being steadfast & honorable in the citizen face of homophobic hate & an arsonist plague of historic buildings. Eric is out to the community, his ex-wife & son, and faces the consequences of his personal lifestyle. Into this mess enters Tom and thus their relationship turns into a strong age gap connection. This book gave this reader a feel-good smile as these two men jump through all the hurdles to complete their HEA. Eric is the novice of the two and while Tom is the younger, it's Tom who takes the lead in teaching Eric all the possibilities for their future together. Arsonist suspects are many, but the discovery and motivation are a surprise with consequences aplenty. A satisfying read and this is my honest review for the ARC received.

I've read books by Morticia before and enjoyed them.
While this book was entertaining I can't give it more than 3 to 3,5stars.

The blurb says more or less everything you need to know.

I love age gap storys and men in uniforms, first responders? I'm so there for all of that.
So I have to say I was a bit bummed that it didn't hold my attention as well as I tought it would.

I can't explain it. I mean I liked the story all in all, the characters were interesting and well enough developed and I think they fit together. And yet somehow I couldn't really connect with the MCs.

Sure, I hoped they'd manage to find their HEA but overall I wasn't overly invested.

Fast paced with insta attraction and some sexy hot firemen in action.

What I really liked was that Eric and Tom had each others backs and knew that they could trust and rely on each other, no matter that they didn't know each other that long.

Let my thoughts not ruin your enjoyment of the story, it's probably that I was just not in the right mood for this book, something that happens from time to time.
So, just give it a try. Like I said, it is a solid and entertaining story all in all.

I’m sure I have read this before, but there is no record on goodreads.

Didn’t love this one. Basically I never got sucked in, and kept rolling my eyes at the stuff going on between the guys. It was standard and reasonable romance fare, but the way it was written...I don’t think there was the use of the phrases “soul mate” or “the one” anywhere, but there might as well have been...

And one MC seemed to feel needlessly responsible for his awful ex wife and son’s crap behaviour. Talk about boundary issues. And this need to emotionally unload and crap on at someone...grow the fuck up dude!

Honestly, as I was reading it, “U-HAUL LESBIANS!!!!!” Kept floating into my head.

I mean I read romance novels for the romance, obviously, but the paradigm of romance and falling in love as set out in this novel did not seem either desirable or healthy.

But hey, I finished it, so there’s that.

Arson MM age gap

I have been loving this series. Each book can be read as stand-alone.
It is well-written, and the characters are described thoroughly. We first met Eric, recently divorced and A fire Chief in Mesa.

Tom is a new recruit to Mesa Fire Station, and with one look at his Chief, he knew he needed to avoid him at all costs; the man was hot.

I love this story's twists and turns, always keeping you on your toes.

The Characters are well-written and full of depth, and the background story keeps you interested; I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this series.

This is the story of Eric, Chief firefighter, and Tom, a new in the area firefighter. Here, there are several topics at stakes : sex, love, mystery, arson, son/gay dad relationship, ex-wife/ gay ex-husband relationship... And did I mention hot sex ?! Like reaaaaaally hot sex !

I've seen a video lately on You Tube, with the song Same Love by Macklemore. A man fed up with one night stands and who wants true love, friendship and great sex in the same package. He wants a partner. It's exactly what it is here. No one wants to have one night stands in their lives here and when they find each other, it's like a new sun has raising in their sky. That's how I felt like, reading the book. And of course, there was the great sex ! lol

It's a very very good book and I hope you'll enjoy as much as I did !

Exciting mystery. Tom, moves to a new city to escape the familial consequences of his coming out as bi, a cheating ex and his Gram passing. He hopes to start over in Mesa as a temp figherfighter new to Chief Eric's team. Chief Eric immediately catches his eye. Chief Eric, comes out and his wife and son turn their backs on him. On top of that an arson is setting fire to the historical buildings and one of Mesa's bigoted residents has an issue with him. These two men meet at a pivotal point in each other's lives. The personal conflicts on top of the hunt for the mysterious arson, kick emotional adrenaline up a few notches that challenge workplace and personal entanglements. The story grabs you and squeezes you tight. Great storyline and exciting mystery. Exciting pace, great characters, excellent theme. Nice cover art. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
