I know, I know... in buying this, let alone reading it, I've only contributed to the problem. My excuse is that Amazon was pretty much giving it away (conspiracy?), and I was genuinely interested to see why it is that Karrine "Superhead" Steffans is more or less the only really successful hip-hop author. (You can tell because she's got like five books out, and the rest of those suckers only have one, which probably didn't recoup.) Is there anything to these books beyond the rumors about guys she gave blowskis to on the sets of Ja Rule videos back in '02? The answer is kinda, but not really. To her credit, she does have a certain gift for the craft. I know her earlier books were written with a ghost writer, but I get the sense that she really did type this one up, and it's not half bad. Because it's essentially a love story, albeit a sad, fucked up one, it'll appeal to girls more so than guys. The main appeal here to me was as a glimpse into the psyche of someone who's built a career around giving mouth hugs to rappers and then writing books about it, who's obviously getting on in years, and in that sense it is genuinely fascinating. I might reference it in Book 4, which doesn't (otherwise) have shit to do with Superhead, but does have a chapter on Lil Wayne.
