Crochet is big fashion news and is becoming more and more popular among young crafters. This adorable new book from the team behind Mollie Makes is aimed at complete beginners, but it's also perfect for those who have completed their first projects and are looking to move on.
A selection of more than 20 contemporary projects from an international range of crochet experts offers a variety of projects. Some are quick and easy, others are more time and labor-intensive, but well worth the effort. A section at the back of the book clearly explains the basics of crochet with step-by-step illustrations.
The book includes ideas for using crocheted pieces around the home-as accessories themselves, as trim embellishments on existing items, and more. Projects include blankets and afghans; cushions; kitchen items such as placemats, crochet-trimmed napkins, potholders, and coasters; and toys and gifts.
I picked up this book from the library because I really like the Mollie Makes magazines from Britain. While it's a pretty spendy magazine, it always includes some sort of mini project, complete with all the supplies you'd need to complete it. I often splurge on a copy and because of it's price, keep each one.
This book has basic information and cute projects that are quite practical in today's world. It's not really a book to teach someone to crochet; I think basic fore knowledge is assumed. The projects are not hard. I consider myself an advanced-intermediate crocheter but sometimes I tend to overlook, or not think of simple applications for my skills. Reading through it gave me some Christmas giftie ideas!
I think I'm going to look for a used copy of this book to add to my personal library. I think it will make a cute addition to my already brimming library of crochet (and knitting) books. And besides, is it possible to own too many books?
Initially as I flipped through this book I wasn't terribly impressed-only to eat humble pie once I began to actually reading its pages! This is a superb crochet book! I loved how well they explain things. Each pattern is written twice, both in text and crochet charts, so you can go with whatever format you're more comfortable with or learn to read it in another, less-familiar one too. Another thing I loved is that at the beginning of each pattern there's a list of all the techniques needed to complete that particular project, as well as the page number of where you can flip to learn how to do it should it be unknown to you. Talk about user friendly! Oh, and did I mention that the projects are great? Most craft books will have a smattering of projects that I want to try... this one I want to crochet them all! This book leaves me wanting more. Please Mollie Makes, publish such a book for my usual craft of choice: knitting.
I love this book and plan to buy for keeps. It tells you the difference between US and European crocheting, it's detailed, the drawings are great, the simple designs are beautiful! I do not plan to make any of the projects just yet but I do love how helpful the information has been!
The information about crochet instruction looked awesome! I feel confident that this book would really help someone with their technique. Some of the projects looked cute too.
Easily laid out and understandable. Perfect for a beginner crocheter. Cute projects and well-written instructions. The diagrams of how to complete the various stitches seem helpful.
