His Reluctant Rancher

Rate this book
The last place city girl Desiree Burke expected to find herself was living at and working on a ranch, much less butting heads with the ranch’s sexy cowboy owner, Zach Gamble. But that’s exactly where she ends up after an incident at work leads her to her best friend Rory’s doorstep. Desiree is a gifted physical therapist, and Rory knows exactly where her brand of tough love is needed the most.

Zach’s been through hell and back. A devastating car crash left his brother gone, his father paralyzed, and him with mental scars a mile wide. His survivor guilt alone makes him sure he doesn’t deserve to find love. But as Des works her way into his ranch, his family, and his life, suddenly the last person who belonged there is the only one he believes belongs…with him.

USA TODAY bestselling author Roxanne Snopek writes contemporary romance both sexy and sweet, in small towns, big cities, on secluded islands and sun-drenched beaches, with families and communities that will warm your heart. Her fictional heroes (like her own real-life hero) are swoon-worthy, uber-responsible, secretly vulnerable and occasionally dough-headed, but animals love them, which makes everything okay.

Avid gardener, soup-maker and bread-eater, Roxanne writes from British Columbia, Canada, surrounded by dogs, cats, deer, squirrels and occasionally bear and bobcat. When she thinks of it, she does yoga and cleans the house. Well, not that last thing.

This was a very sweet contemporary romance with a lot of heart. It was a story of love amongst tragedy and family made by more than just blood. His Reluctant Rancher is the second in the Three River Ranch series set in rural Montana on Ranches and let me tell you, I love me some HOT cowboys!

Zach is a HOT cowboy but a bit of a broken one. He’s lived through a tragic car accident that killed his younger brother and seriously injured his father. He’s coping with survivor’s guilt as well as trying to run a ranch on his own. He’s in danger of losing vital financial backing and desperately needs help getting his father functioning again before the investors see any weakness. This is where Desiree comes in.

Desiree has her own problems. She’s a physical therapist but she’s still smarting over the complaint unjustly lodged against her buy a fussy, self-centered crone who didn’t respond well to her tough-love approach to rehabilitation. Desiree’s approach may be a little unconventional but she gets results. While she awaits the board’s decision, she takes Rory up on her invite to come and help Zach’s family who is running out of time and hope. Zach’s father hasn’t made any progress since the accident, and Desiree is their last hope before an important investor meeting.

When I heard there was a second book in the Three River Ranch series I was quite excited because I really enjoyed the first one. His Reluctant Rancher focuses on Zach and Desiree, the best friends of Carson and Rory from the first book. In the last novel we witnessed the beginning of attraction between Zach and Desiree. But the fact that she was a city girl addicted to her designer wear and fancy lattes, and Zach was a down home cowboy through and through; it didn’t seem likely that anything would work out between these two. Plus, Desiree has a past that makes her keep everyone at arm’s length. However, once she moves into Zach’s home on the ranch her walls slowly start to crumble. She can’t help but become addicted to the clear love and warmth shared in this family and shown to her.

I must confess I love the thought of life on a ranch. Wide open spaces, riding horses and caring for animals sounds wonderful! Throw in some swoon-worthy cowboys and I am so there! Zach and Desiree have a lot on their plate but that doesn’t stop the heart from wanting what it wants, and there’s an undeniable chemistry between these two:

The instant they touched, she felt a quake run through him and pass into her. A tsunami of sensations roared over her, his lips, cold from the outdoor air, then warm, then hot. His tongue, sending sparks up, down, and sideways. His arms, so strong, his embrace wide enough to hold even a girl who’d never let herself be caught.

As I said before, I read and enjoyed the first in this series: Three River Ranch. I enjoyed this one as well but maybe just a smidge less and that boils down to: Desiree. She was really annoying to me for at least the first 40% of the story. She didn’t listen to Zach and his family on Ranch dealings and she was sort of a know-it-all. On the other hand, I loved Zach. He’s gone through so much but doesn’t want to stress his mother out so he carries so much worry on his own shoulders. I adored Zach’s mother as well. She was in so much emotional pain, facing the possibility her husband would never get better to possibly losing the ranch. She never let that affect her manners and didn’t hold back from showing kindness whenever she could. I fell in love with this family (except for Celia, that is) right along with Desiree.

We get to see Rory, Carson and baby Lulu, also we have appearances from “Blight” and “Blister” the two mother-hen sisters! They were there ready to take charge and solve any problem.

His Reluctant Rancher was another win for me with a lovely mix of romance, (some spicy and some sweet), and down home country appeal. I hope Roxanne decides to write another Three River Ranch Romance. Maybe Celia (Zach’s bratty sister) will get some love and actually become likable. *fingers crossed*

Eh. His Reluctant Rancher is one of those books that is really hard to review...

The plot line is rather depressing through out. Des is on the verge of loosing her physical therapy license and Zach's family is recovery from a family tragedy. Zach's father is practically paralyzed, his brother is dead and on top of that they are about to lose their family ranch because he cannot run it all by himself. Oh, did I mention that he caused the accident...

All you really read about was the tip-toe dance between the characters. A slight sexual tension, but that part was always lacking. I found Des annoying. Sure, she learned fast, but the mistakes she made in the first place... high heeled boots on ice? Only "fashionable" outerwear in negative degree weather? Chasing a herd of pregnant cows with a snowmobile.... Common sense anyone?

This book could have been a whole lot better if the reader was graced with happy details... Like SEX! We know they did it, only because we were clued in after the fact... Why? I wanted in on those details! What was he like in bed? Come on! He thought himself a broken man... well, is he a whole man again or what??

The ending was pretty lame. The father is up and moving around-ish... everyone bursting with joy about everything. Everyone is happily ever after... Eh...

Lastly... I know the sister was supposed to be rude and annoying but she did kind of have a point. The fake Latina thing? Really? I thought she was Latina until the sister called her out. That was just dumb. I probably would have said something too.

Um so omg my quote of book one is on the cover?!? So exciting!

This was another super cute read from Roxanne Snopek! I love the community in these books and the characters are just wonderful.

There is an intense romance going on between Des and Zach. Both characters are just so determined at what they do, so watching them butt heads was actually kind of comical at times. Des is so dedicated to her job, while Zach is more about his family and the ranch.

The focus on friendship and family in this one is great. I love Blythe and Bliss - the pair of them crack me up.

I cannot wait to read another great read from Roxanne Snopek - she writes the best stories. And man, these cowboy/rancher books, they're killing me. They're so awesome :)

This book was an awesome read! The best part to me was the fact that it was not cliche'. Right when I thought I knew what has going to happen next, something entirely different happened. I also like that the supporting characters were not the typical characters, like the sister, usually they are so friendly and buddy buddy, not Celia. I also liked the hero & heroine, they weren't your typical male and female and they had very well thought out back stories.

I expected to love this novel and I was NOT disappointed. I have come to expect infuriatingly/endearingly real characters and unpredictable story lines written with heart and with wry, understated humour and that is why I will always come back to read the novels of Roxanne Snopek (and her excellent non-fiction too, truth be told.)

His Reluctant Rancher is a categorical romance and if you read romances, you are going to love this novel. But it's a cross-over because if you don't usually read romances, you are still going to love this novel--there is so much substance to it. Just like the first in the series, Three River Ranch, characters are confronted with agonizingly tough choices and they react in messy, mascara-running, unflatteringly flawed ways. Resolution is deeply satisfying but not at all formulaic. I call it "romance for the intelligent reader."

My favourite feature: the animals. As Temple Grandin so eloquently put it, "Animals Make us Human." And that is certainly true for the residents of both Twinridge and Three River ranches. From the calves on the range to the kittens in the barn, Snopek's novels are populated with four-footed characters every bit as "real" as their human counterparts. Animal-assisted physical and/or psychological therapy (official and otherwise) adds so much to the texture of the narrative in His Reluctant Rancher.

I will be the first to admit...in the beginning this book did not grab my attention and keep me captivated. But when I finally got sucked in, it truly became a page turner. If you read the first book in the series, THREE RIVERS RANCH, then you know there was an attraction between Desiree and Zach. This is NOT the story I pictured for them. Roxanne has taken Zach to the brink, just stopping short of pushing him over the edge.

Desiree Burke and Zachary Gamble are the MOST unlikely couple. She’s a city girl with a fancy little sports car, who’s addicted to Starbucks, and considers not wearing her Louboutins pure torture. Zach, on the other hand, is a pickup driving kind of guy. He’s single-handedly taking care of his family’s farm. Zach wears old denim jeans, cowboy boots, and let’s not forget about his chaps.

These two do have something in common...They love their best friends Rory and Carson Granger like crazy. But Des and Zach have more in common than just their friends. Each bares the scars of being orphaned as kids. Des’ mother died when she was eight. Zach was adopted by Marnie and Joe Gamble as an infant, when they thought they couldn’t have children of their own. Des bounced from foster home to foster home. Zach went on to become the older brother of Cale and Celia, the Gamble’s biological children.

Des’ mouth and attitude gets her in trouble at work and she is forced to take some time off. During her “sabbatical”, Des returns to Three Rivers Ranch to help out Zach’s father, who is in desperate need of a physical therapist, after a deadly car accident.

Desiree and Zachary butt heads like no one else. Their battles eventually become love. But in the midst of everything, Des manages to help heal the broken Gamble family, including its beloved son. Zach and the residents of this small town offer Des the one thing she’s wanted her whole life....a family.

I’m going to have to warn you, the book will make you cry, if not pull at your heartstrings. So be prepared!

His Reluctant Rancher is an enjoyable and entertaining romance. Roxanne Snopek does an excellent job of taking the struggles in life, mixing it with sizzling chemistry and sexual tensions, adding a little sass, humor and drama, and coming up with an amazing story. A story of healing, family, responsibilities, physical attraction, and love. Her use of characters throughout the book, both main and secondary, adds depth and richness to the storyline. She takes situations that usually travel a dark path, and steers them in a direction which brings out the good that comes of them.

The heroine, Des, a woman with patience, compassion, and plenty of sass, has to deal with not only her commitment issues and insecurities, but the hero’s insecurities as well. The hero, Zach, a man with a strong sense of familial obligation, has to deal with his errant sense of guilt while trying to fight his attraction for Des and find justification for his actions. The characters are believable and well-liked and draw you into the storyline as they struggle on their path of falling in love.

The story is well-written, the plot solid, and the writing flows. It kept me thoroughly entertained from the first page to the last. This is a love story that anyone who likes romance should not miss.

Once again Roxanne Snopek has given us a book that was a pleasure to read with lovely endearing characters and a storyline that is touching and romantic, with moments that tug on the heartstrings, but perfectly balanced with wit and moments that make you smile.

We met Desiree and Zach in Three River Ranch and both were characters I loved; they generated many of the humourous moments and banter with Rory and Carson. Whilst the humour is still there, I found it a much more emotional journey and my heart went out to Zach. Reknowned for being a ladies man, he is witty, bossy and stubborn, but he has an absolute heart of gold. And since being involved in an accident which killed his brother and left his Dad seriously injured, he's broken. Des is loud, argumentative, fun, feisty and loyal. Life hasn't been a bed of roses for her and she's put up barriers because of it. They say that opposites attract, but these two are more alike than they think.

Their stubborn arguments had me laughing, Zach made me swoon and his and his family's pain made me well up a little. I was willing for him and Des to find their HEA because they were perfect for each other. Needless to say I have no hesitation in recommending His Reluctant Rancher and I look forward to more from the Three River men in the future. I need to know if we are going to find out if Mitch is going to live up to the high standards Carson and Zach have set!

Oh hello, sexy cowboys!! I love a delicious fella in jeans and boots! I love the feisty ladies in these books! They really know how to make a cowpoke take notice! Each book is really well written and entertaining Great pacing and wonderful storytelling.

The first book introduces you to the ranch and all the wonderful denizens. This series has some really engaging characters that have you eagerly rooting for happy endings. They also have the standard drama moments but not overly angsty.

Light on the steam. It is more of a simmer. Really lovely romances that leave you in a happy place feeling warm and fuzzy!

Beautiful heartwarming story, I fell in love with all the characters. The story is about Zack and Desiree’s journey, but also Zack’s family and rebuilding a life, when you feel like giving up. I think this story shows there is always hope, you just need to find it and don’t shut everyone out. Zack and Desiree have a chemistry that is so hot and sexy will leave you panting. I loved the storyline and how no detail seemed to be missed; the story had a perfect flow and is very well written. I even had tears in my eyes at one part. I loved this story and I guarantee if you love romance stories you will too. There is nothing better than a beautiful romance story with a deeper meaning!

YES!
+Zach is adopted and Des was a foster kid.
+Cute animals.
+Zach calls Des out on some important information that she left out when she came to care for his father.
+Zach is a genuinely nice guy and cares for his family and animals.

NO!
-Des throws around random Spanish words, because. She admits that she is not Latina. Zach's sister calls her out on it, which she ignores. This tells me that the author did this to make Des cute and quirky, but fails.
-Des knew that she was going to be at a ranch in the middle of nowhere during the winter, and was told what kind of clothes to pack. She packs the opposite, which causes slips, trips, and chills. Forcing Zach to catch, cuddle, and call her Princess, obviously.
-Des does dangerous things in the name of helping her patient.

His Reluctant Rancher is the amazing 2nd book in the Three River Ranch series by Roxanne Snopek. This is such a great series surrounding some really interesting characters. Each character has a mind and a personality of their own, which makes it all the more fun to read their stories.

Desiree is mad and scared all at the same time. Blamed for a work related accident she is on leave until it can be investigated. She knows she did nothing wrong, but it doesn’t stop her from being hurt and angry that she would be in this position and that she has let this rattle her confidence. Her best friend Rory begs her to come to Three River Ranch during her leave and help out with a friend’s father who was in an accident and has exhausted all options. She immediately likes this family and feels for them. The attraction that she feels for the son is not too surprising. He’s hot and exudes sex and she’s always been very comfortable with her own sexuality, yet this particular man makes her feel things she has no experience with. She knows she’s good and she believes she can help, but her feelings for the family adds to the pressure of her already strained confidence.

“One person, she thought. All it takes is one person who believes in you.”

Zach Gamble’s family is falling apart. After a truck accident that left his brother dead and his dad paralyzed he is barely holding it all together. They are in serious danger of losing the family ranch and all he needs is his father to get himself together enough to help convince the board of investors that they can keep everything up. Desiree is his last hope to get his dad back to where he needs to be. Trusting her to do this is hard, but dealing with the feelings she makes him feel is even harder. She is beautiful and turns him on in a way that he finds hard to resist, but she’s smart, interesting, loving, tough and all the other traits that he respects and never thought he would find.

“You’re no twig,” he said, brushing snow off her backside, “but trust me, Des. No man alive is complaining about where the sand settled in your hourglass.”

This book has it all. Hot, sexy cowboy? Check. Family dynamics that add to the story, rather than annoy? Check. Witty banter to hold your attention? Check. Sex scenes to curl your toes and make you wish for a hot cowboy of your own? Check, check!

The strength it takes for Zach to keep his family afloat is awe inspiring and the way Des step up to help out is so sweet. I love that the self proclaimed city girl is willing to get dirty to make things just a little bit easier for this family and for Zach.

“You’re on the same ride as the rest of us. Sometimes we lead. Sometimes we follow. Sometimes we get lost. But the main thing is, we’re on the journey together.”

Ranches + Romance = Montanan Approved!

When a car accident not only took his brother's life but left his father severely impaired physically, Zach Gamble was left to run the family ranch alone. With debt piling and the family struggling with grief he's done the best he can to hold it all together. Enter Desiree Burke, annoying friend of a friend. Des is on leave after a work incident has forced her to be suspended. Helping the Gamble family get their patriarch back on his feet seems like a win-win situation. But the magnetism between she and Zach complicates things as they both try to balance their need for professionalism with the possibilities they find in one another. Can a city girl and a rancher overcome their past hurts and give in to the emotions trying to bring them together?

Man. Talk about a surprisingly deep offering from the category shelves. As much as I liked Rory and Carson I was sure I'd hate Zach and Des. To my complete shock I liked them even better. Her past in the foster system was unexpectedly good for the overall arc of the story. His grief was so real and his own struggle with being adopted made him the kind of guy you can't help but want to have that much needed heart-to-heart that will heal his hurt. Every secondary character is there at just the right time and in just the right way to make it a fleshy story in spite of the short format. It's not just a romance, it's one of those healing kinds that's ridiculously satisying when it ends.

Any issues I had with the story are silly things I'm probably the only reader who'd balk at... like Des owning a pair of Christian Louboutin boots (on a physical therapist's salary, no less) and then being dumb enough to wear them out snowmobiling. There isn't a Montana native whether from the city or not that'd risk such a costly mistake. But little things like that work in category romance enough even I forced myself not to weep over the thought of doing that. *shudder*

If you loved THREE RIVER RANCH you cannot pass on HIS RELUCTANT RANCHER (though you could definitely read it without having read the latter, you'd just spoil the events from that TRR if you wanted to go back to read it). It's one of those emotional roller coaster ride romances that will leave you on the edge of your seat for more than just whether Zach and Des can work it out. Loved it!

The last time we saw Desiree was in Three River Ranch trying to talk her friend Rory to move back to Billings. However, Rory ended up staying at Three River. Which happens to be a good thing, because Des is having a tad bit of problem at the beginning of the story and needs a change of scenery. Plus, Carson's buddy Zach is in need of help and Des is the perfect person to help. After all she happens to be an excellent physical therapist. She might be the right person to help Zach's father recover and possibly the rest of the family.

I really enjoyed this story. I love the dynamics between the hero and the heroine. Especially when they are so similar in so many ways and yet contrast in others. Both of them carry a lot of responsibility on their shoulders, but so afraid to ask for help.

Des has abandonment issues, so when things look unsteady she picks up and leaves before they can get worst. Plus, she tends put out this personal that she's better than you attitude, which tends to put people off like Zach's sister. However, that all stems from her childhood. Goodness, childhood can be rough.

Zach being the oldest of Gamble family has some serious issues. They seem to come out more after the car crash. A lot has to do with survivors guilt and other underline issues. For instance, wonder if his parents truly loved him even though he was adopted and his other siblings were biological (that does take a toll on a person).

Overall, a good read. Ms. Snopek is able to bring to joy out of the darkness in this story. Yes, it is heart-tugging with a family conquering the struggles of life. One of my favorite lines in the story sum up the ups and downs of life perfectly:
"Sometimes we lead. Sometimes we follow. Sometimes we get lost. But the main thing is, we're on the journey together."
And that's the most important thing to remember, that through struggles we don't have to be alone. So, I hope you get a chance to read His Reluctant Rancher, because it gives a new hope when tragedy happens.

My review originally posted on Romancing-the-Book.com is below:

His Reluctant Rancher is a heartwarming, feel good and fast paced story that took me through a lot of emotions – laughing, crying, sorrow, fear, determination and happiness. I could feel the romance and love of numerous couples in the story. Marnie and Joe’s love for each other shown through as well as Rory’s and Carson’s for each other. Desiree (Des) and Zach had a powerful chemistry and it led to interesting happenings when each let the other in. They both held so much distrust and sadness inside that they couldn’t figure out how to let it go and let someone in – whether friend or family.

The descriptions of the snow, ice and the storms made me feel cold to the bone. The descriptions of the horses, the cattle, the ranch, the cats and the Gamble home made me feel as if I was there. I could feel the struggles Joe endured in his therapy in order to try and regain his strength after his accident and I could also feel Zach’s weariness, tension and discomfort of having to carry the full load and responsibility of the ranch all alone on his shoulders. At every turn he questioned himself just as Des questioned her therapy program and exercises that she was using while working with Joe. The townspeople were an interesting bunch and kept everyone on their toes. It’s a place where I wouldn’t mind living and calling home.

Snopek is a new to me author and I hope to revisit Three River Ranch and meet up with Des, Zach and the others sometime soon. Give His Reluctant Rancher and Snopek a try. You’ll be glad you did!

Favorite Quote: Warmth flooded the cold places in her heart. Then she glanced at Zach. The pain and fear smoldering in those dark depths choked the joy from her throat.

This book is the 2nd installation in the Three River Ranch series and is the story of Desiree and Zach; best friend of Rory and Carson. Desiree went to visit Rory on invitation by Carson to assist in the rehabilitation of Zach’s father who is on a wheelchair after her career as physiologist was suspended pending an investigation due to a complaint from her patient. Zach, who have survived the accident that has killed his brother and caused his father to be on a wheel chair is determine to shouldered onto their family business or risk losing it. In addition to that, he is burying the guilt that he survived the accident and that his parent lost their fresh and blood son instead of him. As they have met before, the attraction between Desiree and Zach sparked. But Desiree believe that nothing is permanent and something bad will happened to her when she is happy, denied herself of Zach’s love as she dare not take the risk.

There are too many burden that the main characters of this book is carrying and when Zach finally able to confront and solved his issues, Desiree is at the losing end in her own battle. Although this is a second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone. The most dramatic scene to me after reading this book is when Zachary finally talked to his father about his guilt after the tragedy, It really grip at me emotionally and i can really feel their anguish.

Okay, I don't know how to start (but I already do that :) ). This book was...unexpected. It's the first book with cowboys I've ever read and it was a new experience. At the beginning I was a little confused because I didn't know what had happened and it was a pure confusion. But after I read more I caught the ideea.

This book is about Desiree, a woman who is therapist and she lost her job. She have to move at her friend, Rory, who was living in a ranch with her husband and her children. There she meet (again) Zach. She have to heal Zach's father who was paralysed because of an accident. Zach's brother, Cale, died in that accident and Zach blames himself for what happened.

When I saw the cover all I thought about was a hot summer on the farm, but actually in the book was winter, and was a cold winter :) I love the animals si I loved that in this book were horsed, cats and dogs. I wished once (I still do) to ride a horse, a black horse :)

Zach was almost to lose his family's ranch, his ranch, but fortunately this wasn't happening because of Des. She helped Joe, Zach's father, and after all, he was recovering very well.

Between Zach and Des is a bound and they can't deny it. In book were kisses and they were described very well. Zach had a trauma after that accident and Des helped him to go over that. Their relationship was complicated, but in the end the love wins :)

I love this book and I didn't think I would like it so much :) Rating 4/5 stars.

His Reluctant Rancher by Roxanne Snopek is a sweet continuation to Three River Ranch, staring Zach and Desiree, Rory’s and Carson’s respective best friends.

Desiree Burke has always been a city girl, expecting the best life can offer and every luxury available. After a childhood full of misery, she has built a hard shell to protect her heart. She doesn’t want anything permanent with anyone and being a physical therapist is her dream job, for it gives her the control she wants, the lack of permanency and her freedom to go where she wants when she wants. Until an unfortunate claim of wrongful treatment, that makes her run to her friend Rory, who will send her to use her skills to help Zach’s dad.

Zach Gamble has had recent tragedies in his family that are threatening their economic well being as well as his mental stability. An unfortunate accident where his brother died and his father suffered several injuries that have left him with little ability to communicate and move. Read More...

3.5 stars Honestly, I would have enjoyed some more time on Des rehabbing Joe. Those were some of the most interesting parts of the story. The characters were a bit frustrating - it felt like everyone was determined to make and keep themselves miserable. The sex between Zach and Des happens off-page, fade to black kinda thing. It's mostly heated glances and a couple stolen kisses. Tame, but still an enjoyable story.

The second book in the Three River Ranch series and the best one so far.

I loved the interaction between Desiree and Zach, and loved watching the romance bloom from the small spark to overcome their fears and stubbornness.

A wonderful story.

His Reluctant Rancher was a wonderful story! It's about two people who have never felt they were capable of being loved. Through life's twist and turns they are put together and learn to overcome their fears and doubts. A truly heartwarming story that will make laugh, cry and fall in love with Three River Ranch once again!

This story had only one problem ... when I finished it Mitch's story wasn't out yet.

I started this story immediately following the first story in the series. I had some pretty high expectations as the first story was excellent. Ms. Snopek did not disappoint. I met Zach and Des in the last story, the sparks were reminiscent of July 4 in America. That was just a fore-shadowing of things to come. I highly recommend this story, it is stand alone but reading the first story definitly enriches this one.

Good, good read.

Interesting characters with great backstories, melded together as family. The setting, beautiful.
Only one thing disappointing: the f-bomb x2 was unnecessary. I read for enjoyment, away from the crude language prevalent today even from children. We don't use it. If the author deems it necessary to include it, I won't continue reading her otherwise excellent novels.

This was a fantastic book, from the minute I started to the second I finished it, I loved it! It was an emotional roller coaster of emotional ups and downs, family turmoil and tough love. It was a book filled with so much more than just a story, the characters felt so real and there were times where I laughed at their antics, then at times cried like a baby. This story pulled at my heart strings in more ways than I can count. The writing was beautiful and flowed on the pages, it was captivating, passionate and so romantic.

Des is a spitfire, she is a strong independent woman who speaks her mind and does what she wants, when she wants and how she wants. She runs into some trouble with her job and decides its time to get away for a while and goes to visit her good friend Rory. She is talked into rehabbing Rory's neighbors dad, who was in a serious accident. This also means spending time with Zach, the man who she had a brief encounter with, but one who makes her insides melt. Zach has such a tortured soul and because of a recent family tragedy he is conflicted with his feelings of guilt and on how he fits in with his family. Now is when his family needs him the most, and that is where Des seems to come into the picture, she is there to help fix things... but who is there to help fix Des? Zach and Des are perfect together, they have great chemistry and the sexual tension between them is thick. They both need each other but constantly push each other away. Neither one is perfect but that is what makes them so real.

I also enjoyed reading about Carson and Rory and being able to read about how happy they are now. Bliss and Blythe also get some time in the book. I fell in love with Zach's parents especially his father, and the relationship that he forged with Des was truly heartwarming. The heartache and healing that this family had to face was insurmountable, but this book just shows us how important family and love are and how those things alone make anything possible.

I would definitely recommend this book to those looking for a great romance. this book had me laughing, crying and just thinking about life in general. It is about making your dreams come true, the importance of family and Love all wrapped up in one great book. I would recommend reading the first book in this series first, although it could be read as a stand alone I would not recommend it. I am looking forward to the next in the series.
