Firefighters
In Firefighters, emergent readers will learn how firefighters put out fires and keep people safe. Vibrant, full-color photos and carefully leveled text will engage early readers as they discover what firefighters do on the job. A labeled diagram helps readers identify the equipment in a fire house, while a picture glossary reinforces new vocabulary. Children can learn more about firefighters online using our safe search engine that provides relevant, age-appropriate websites. Firefighters also features reading tips for teachers and parents, a table of contents, and an index. Firefighters is part of Jump!'s Community Helpers series.

This colorful community helpers book, "Firefighters", is a great easy read to expose kids to what firefighters do and how they help the community. This book has chapters, but each page only has one to two short sentences, making it a quick read. The photos are bright colored and feature firefighters and children of many races. There is also a picture glossary in the back to help children understand key words. A great resource to use during fire safety week, or for any young child that is interested in firefighters.

1. Firefighters are the people that put out fires when they get too bi. Their job is to help those who are in danger. To put out the fire they connect a long hose to a hydrant where they get their water. They have special uniforms so that when they go in they will not overheat or get burnt.

I like the picture at the end with the big fire that looks like it’s caused by flammable things in a dumpster, and I like the tool the firefighter is using.
I like that firefighters have special suits to keep hot air out because my firefighter costume (that I’ll either get for my birthday or earn in ten more days) seems like it would attract hot air because it’s going to be hot the next few days, and it’s probably a fluffy and puffy costume, but it’s got a fire extinguisher, so it will probably keep it cool, but I don’t want to spray the firefighter costume because that will get me all wet when I take it off.

How, exactly, do firefighters put out fires? How do they keep people safe.
Inquiring minds want to know. With this book by Carl Meister, we're shown firefighters at work. For instance:
Firefighters pull out
a long hose.
They hook it to a
hydrant.
Whoosh!
Out comes water.
Excellent writing, I'd say for an early reader about firefighters. Not only is the topic exciting, but so is the text of this book. Definitely a FIVE STAR standout.
