My 7 year old son recently borrowed this book from our local library. *Contains Spoilers*
The book gives a short description on Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Superman, and Doomsday. The story begins with Doomsday breaking out of the underground vault. He targets Metropolis and Superman. Doomsday attacks the city and Superman flies in to save the day, but the creature isn't going down without a huge fight. Superman thinks he has defeated the creature, only for the creature to return even more powerful. Superman has no choice, but to send him to the Phantom Zone. Clark Kent again misses all the action and returns right after Superman leaves. Lois and Jimmy have a great story to tell.
My son did need help with reading some of the text. The text format is in large print. Each page has colorful illustrations to go along with the storyline.
A 'childized' version of Superman (SM) facing Doomsday (DD). Nice introduction to DD - this book does a good job of introducing his powers and how he matches up against SM. I think that DD is going to be around for a long time; still many more encounters with SM in the future. Still think he is kind of a 'swipe' of the Hulk!
This is an I Can Read level 2 reader so the little guys can get in on the action of the super heros without having to wait until they are older to read about them. This one had action but wasn't scary; now for a toddler it might be a little scary but for an age appropriate child this is just right. Right amount of action for a Superman storyline with Lois Lane, the newspaper, the criminal, etc.
