Le monde natal des Maltaani a été plongé dans une guerre civile. Les nationalistes anti-humains ont chassé les royalistes du pouvoir et forcé le gouvernement à s'exiler à bord d'une flotte Maltaani en orbite autour de la planète.
Sur Terra Earth, la fièvre de la guerre s'empare de la population. Des politiciens opportunistes et des profiteurs de guerre manipulent l'opinion publique pour demander l'implication des Nations Unies de Terra. C'est une guerre que tout le monde veut, et c'est une guerre que tout le monde aura.
Le capitaine Abner Fortis prend le commandement de la compagnie Tango, 2e bataillon, 2e régiment - Tango 2/2 - juste à temps pour se joindre au combat. Tango 2/2 est une compagnie de reconnaissance, et sa mission est d'ouvrir la voie à la force d'invasion. L'ensemble de la force de combat de l'ISMC - neuf divisions, quarante-cinq mille Marines de l’Espace - dépend de Fortis et de la compagnie Tango pour réussir à faire face à une situation écrasante. C'est une stratégie risquée, mais s'ils y parviennent, la récompense ne sera rien de moins que la libération des Maltais de leurs oppresseurs nationalistes.
Fortis retrouve son camarade de confiance et Space Marine extraordinaire, le sergent d'artillerie Petr Ystremski. Ensemble, ils mènent Tango Two Two sur une voie de plus en plus désespérée alors que l'invasion s'enlise et qu'ils sont bloqués derrière les lignes ennemies. N'ayant pas de bonnes options, ils font ce que les Marines de l’Espace font toujours : ils en choisissent une mauvaise et l'exécutent. Après tout, ils sont payés pour le faire, pas pour l'aimer. Il ne peut y avoir d'échec. Gagner... ou mourir.

You would think they would have learned their lesson, but no...
The humans are pulled into the civil war of the Maltaani against promises of resource extraction and guess who gets sent to help: right, the Marines.
Abner has moved from Lima company and is sent to take over Tango Two Two. The job comes with a brevet commission as captain and gives Abner a recon company to command. His men are the ears and eyes of his commander, General Boudreaux, chief of the 2d division. Icing on the Cake, Ymstreski comes with him as his senior NCO, and is also breveted, as Gunnery Sergeant.

There are some hints of things to come, but also excellent characterization and top action.
I really had a blast.

Better after a lull
Last couple of books in the series I felt were not quite upto the first 3s standard, thankfully this one bounced back
This time round Abner leads a Recon Company leading the invasion of the Maaltani world, without giving too much away, things do not go to plan, Abner improvises.
It's a fast paced story, although starts of slightly slow, setting the scene
At the end of this episode in Abner's career, I'll be surprised if a Marine will want to serve with him, he gets the job done, but at a heavy cost to those around him

Back in it!
Abner Fortis is back in it again, yet this time as a Captain, or “pretend Captain” as he likes to say.
Yaz, our favorite gunny, is back as well and together they take it to the Maltaani on their home-world with their tip of the spear Recon team.

Marine Corp
Exciting. Story doesn't have unexplained gaps or leaps. Captivating an difficult to put down. Loved it. Ready for next installment. Hope you keep the Funny as a major character. Great read.

finally got the band back together.
Finally Fortis and the Gunny are back together again. Wiping out test tubes but definitely not doing the hearts and minds gig. Fast pace action. In war sometimes you just have to close with the enemy and kill them. Can’t wait for the next one.

ook is consistent with the other books in the Abner Fortis series Piatt has the characters say dinli more often than necessary . All in all a good continuation for the series not great but pretty good.

Fast action and good plot twists that take the story to unexpected places. Worth the time and money. Buy a book or two if you've been downloading for free. Part earned it!!

Abner finds himself once again in the thick of things, spearheading his recon team's mission to infiltrate and destroy critical equipment and infrastructure on Maltanni. It's a daring and dangerous undertaking, perhaps his final mission.

Wow, what a thrill ride, DINLI
What a thrill ride! The action never stops in this series. Action peppered with the consequences of DINLI (DoItDontLikeIt) from coorporate corruption and political fraud to the kind of brotherhood forged in foxholes. An enguaging read.

Another fun Space Marine tale
Anger continues to grow...guided by a seasoned Gunny (spellchecker wanted to make that "Bunny"!!!)
I do appreciate the fact that the author doesn't protect everyone.... but, pretty soon, no one will want to serve.with Fortis! 😀

Another great ride!
Since book 1, I can't get enough of these characters. I haven't even looked for different books by this author yet, but rest assured, I'm going to.
