Pongo

Pongo is a masterful debut by talented illustrator and author Jesse Hodgson. Pongo traces his way from the rainforest floor to the treetops on his search for the bright orange sun. On the journey up the canopy he encounters different jungle creatures, all diverting his attention from the real thing—a curled up orange snake, an orange honey-soaked bee hive, even a baboon's bottom!—each distraction a fun surprise for any young reader. Hodgson's beautiful illustrations are reminiscent of Henri Rousseau's paintings, drawing you into the depths of an enchanting, limitless jungle that will capture every child's imagination.

Jesse Hodgson graduated from Bristol, UWE, with First Class BA (Hons) in Illustration in 2012, after completing her Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Chelsea College of Art, London.

Понго живее сам-самичък в тъмната гора и започва да мечтае да види Слънцето. По пътя си среща много големи жълто-оранжеви неща, които приличат на него, но не са, но това не го обезкуражава и накрая стига над гората и успява да го види и почувства топлите му лъчи. Красиви картинки, но историята не ме докосна.

If first impressions are anything to go by Pongo has lots to offer. Not only a stunning debut book by Jesse Hodgson, but gorgeous cover art, sumptuous colour printing & beautifully bound - well done Flying Eye Books whoever you are. It’s a treat to hold and it’s a joy to read as you soon discover that the illustrations are not just reserved for the cover but continue across every inch of every page - great to explore with a child. The name Pongo is taken from the Latin name for Orangutan and as soon as you make eye contact with him, sitting forlornly in the soggy jungle, you are hooked into his journey. This book is already a firm favourite in our house. Just wait till you see the Baboon!

O Pongão é um dos favoritos do meu filho de 2 anos. O personagem é cativante, a narrativa também, com várias camadas de leitura. Sem falar na esbelta bunda laranja do babuíno que estrela uma das páginas mais engraçadas da literatura infantil do século 21.

I would much rather read "The Great Kapok Tree", or "Verdi", or anything by Eric Carle to get my rainforest/exotic animals fix. This wasn't bad, but it just didn't grab me. I also don't need baboon butts in my life, but some kids may get a good chuckle from it.
