Alfie’s shop is apart of a collection of stories by Shirley Hughes. This story is about a boy called Alfie, who decides to create a shop in his garden with his sister Rosie. He collects items from around the garden and then plays role-play shops. Alfie’s grandmother and grandfather come to the shop and buys items with money. Alfie uses his imagination to create fun games he can play.
What’s good about this story is the encouragement of role-play and imaginary games for children to play around the house. Children can use items around their house to play with and not necessarily have to go out and buy expensive electronic items. The story is welcoming and has a homely feeling. Children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1 will enjoy listening and reading to the collection of Shirley Hughes.
