How can you ever love again when tragedy has crushed your heart?

Kathleen used to love life. She had plans, dreams, and faith in life; but that was before the accident that took it all away from her in an instant. Now that her beloved brother is dead and she's confined to a wheelchair, her future is but a dark cloud hovering above her head. How can she ever find the will to move on and keep living without him? Even the cares of the happy-go-lucky American physiotherapist who's helping her with her rehab therapies are all in vain. Life seems to have lost its meaning, until one night she receives an unexpected celestial visit…

Colin has been working as a physiotherapist in Dublin for almost five years, but he’s never bonded so much with a patient like he is bonding with Kathleen; there's something about those sad blue eyes that makes him want to help her, to take away the pain that reminds him so much of his own. Having lost both his parents in a plane crash when he was only sixteen, Colin knows how it feels to have someone you love taken so abruptly away from you, and he makes it his mission to help Kathleen find her faith in life again. But something changes along the way…

Sometimes love can work miracles. If you believe.

I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this author, even managing to get a mention in the credits.

This story is a simple, slow burning, love story first and foremost. But there are also elements of self belief, strength and forgiveness within it.

Kathleen had made plans to move to America with her brother Declan. They were happily planning a future when tragedy struck at the worst possible time for them. Kathleen loses her beloved brother and finds herself injured and unable to walk. Understandably she is angry at what has happened, and also at herself for still being alive.

It is the job of physiotherapist Colin to help Kathleen in her recovery. Colin also suffered a huge personal loss years before, and he empathises with Kathleen in more ways than she first realises.

Working together brings out emotions in both Kathleen and Colin which they try to fight. Kathleen believes she has nothing to give, while Colin wants to look after her and help in her recovery.

Not only does the storyline help Kathleen, it also in turn helps Colin and Kathleen's brother, David, to move on with their lives and app finally accept what has happened.

The author manages to produce a story which, for someone who is not religious in any way, had me believing in angels. Reading this I found myself crying at a lot of the scenes, and hoping that somewhere my own personal angel was looking out for me.

This is such a change from a lot of stories being produced these days because it is such a simple love story. There are no supernatural elements as such, and it is a well written story. I feel privileged to have been able to read this story and help it become, in even a small way, the story it is today.

The author asked me a while ago to choose a few quotes to help with promote the book. Below are 2 of the ones I chose -

“I had just turned twenty-three when I nearly died.
I was in my car, on the way to Dublin airport, where I should have been taking a direct flight to New York, with my brother and best friend, Declan. We had plans to start a new life there; I’d spent my college years planning everything down to the last detail, and I was just a step away from making my dream come true.
But I never got to the airport.
I never boarded that plane.
On a cold January day, the day I’d waited so long for, fate took everything from me, leaving me hollow and broken.
On a cold January day, my life lost its meaning–although back then I didn’t know it would all make sense when the time was right.
I was twenty-three when I met an angel. He didn’t have wings, he didn’t have a halo, but he healed my soul when it had been torn apart, and he gave meaning to my life again.”

“I felt tears filling my eyes, and soon they started running down my cheeks before I could stop them.
“Sweetheart, don’t cry for me; I’m doing great,” he said, smiling. His face was a portrait of serenity.
“Are you...”
“An angel?” he finished my sentence and I nodded. He looked at me, his deep blue eyes sparkling like they never had before. “I’m not only an angel, Kathy. I’m your angel”

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I gave this book 5 Angelic Stars.

This is Colin and Kathleen's story.

Kathleen wakes up in a hospital and doesn't remember how she got there. All she knows is there is a gorgeous american doctor sitting there with her. Finally after some thinking she starts to piece some stuff together. But not sure why she is still there she doesn't know what has happened to her best friend and brother Declan. They where on their way to the airport to fly to New York to start a new life. For her to write the book she always wanted to write and just be happy. But all that changed when a car hits into them and takes the life of her brother.
When she is told that he is gone it changes her world and she will never be the same. And on top of that she cannot feel anything below her waist. Test after test is done, but there seems to be no damage. And they don't understand why Kathleen cannot walk. Colin lost his parents in a plane crash when he was 16 and he knows the pain and devastation that she is going through and he is determined to be there for her. But with all the pain that she is going through and all the pain that he has never dealt with can these two finally see that they are made for each other?

This is not your typical love story, it has a little twist to it and it was such a great read.
This is a beautiful love story about two people who have had the ultimate devastation happen to them. How do you get back from that? It's hard after losing someone you love to go on as if everything is okay. Kathleen struggles with life in general she feels like her life is over and that she should have just died with her brother. She has so many people that love her, but that is hard for her to see when all she sees is pain. The only person that seems to get through to her is Colin and she is even pushing him away. I felt for her and cried for her. And when she finally started to let him in, I cheered for her. She is a strong willed beautiful woman, who deserves to be happy and live her life. That is what her brother Declan would have wanted for her. She has to say goodbye to him, and Declan makes sure that it's done in a very special way. Do you believe in Angels? I know I do. And how amazing would it be to have your own brother as your Angel? This story will have you laughing, crying and cheering for both Kathleen and Colin. It is a story about hope, and love and learning that even when you think your life is over fate has other plans for you. And you may have lost all that you think you had in your life. But something comes along to help you heal and to learn to live again. Kathleen's journey to living again is beautiful and it is something you don't want to miss. Thank you Roberta for such an amazing story. I look forward to reading more from you.

Hugged by an angel by Roberta Capizzi
*contains spoilers*

Where to start...well you have Kathleen who has just gone through a life altering experience. Her and her brother Declan were on their way to the airport. He was moving her from Ireland to New York where he lived. Although they never made it to the airport, they were hit by a drunk driver. Declan died on impact and she lived.
When she woke up in the hospital she couldn't feel her legs. They couldn't figure out why. She had no physical damage done so it was psychological. One of the first people she meets when she wakes up is Colin her doctor in charge of her physical therapy.
Colin also has baggage. When he was sixteen or so he ditched his parents. They went on a trip, he stayed home. His parents died in a plane crash. Over the years he's learned to live with his survivors guilt. So he completely knows how Kathy feels, he's been there. He makes it his job to do everything to pull her out of it.
Colin offered to accompany Kathy to New York to try a special program to try and get her legs back. Colin is originally from New York and has only lived in Ireland for fourteen years. His best friend Chris is in charge of the program Kathy is going to try. So it's the perfect mix between vacation and work for him.
A lot of things happen in New York. Kathy works on her mental state, her and Colin grow into a comfortable friendship, he shows her around New York. Colin proves to Kathleen that just because she is in a wheel chair it doesn't mean she can't enjoy life. While in New York they both realize they are in love with each other. He professes his love she fights it. My favorite part is he did it on St. Patrick's day.
"I know it wasn’t professional and you could very well go ahead and sue me for sexual harassment, but I don’t regret kissing you, Kathleen, because I love you."
When they get back to Dublin she went on to Galway. Kathy completely cut him out of her life. She didn't believe he could actually love her because of her condition. Thankfully when she finally pulled her head out he was still waiting for her. On their first night back she sent him out to go get something. She started having a panic attack about if he actually did love her.
"I decided to put pictures of you everywhere so I’d see your face all the time, no matter where ."
Her brother Declan came to her in the form of an angel. He calmed her down, gave her a message for herself and one for Colin, then hugged her. When he hugged her she got feeling back in her legs. Thus the title hugged by an angel.
Colin was wary of it to start with. After a while he believed it. After Kathy was healed everything was great between the two. They fell deeper in love. He met her family again, but as her boyfriend. She met his Gran. And they basically lived happily ever after.
For St. Patrick's day they went back to New York to celebrate their one year anniversary and to become the official god parents of Chris's son James. That's one way to know your best friend loves you, when he names his kid after your dad. But that's not all that happened in New York..read the book to find out what else happens.

This isn't the usual type of book I read. That being said I was definitely okay with this book, it was a surprise how much I did enjoy it. I do wish though that Roberta would have used more Irish terms. At least when Kathy was speaking sense she's from Ireland. I realize Colin is technically a transplant to Ireland, so I didn't expect it from him, but I did from Kathy. It was almost too American for me for a book taking place in Ireland.

Hugged By An Angel was a highly emotional read for me. Several questions continuously ran through my head while reading this book… What if you had your life planned out and in an instant it changes? What happens if you suddenly you are paralyzed? What would happen if you not only lost who you are but your best friend too?

This book was so much more than a great romance, though I fell in love with Colin in this book. This book was about learning to live again, learning to love unconditionally and letting go. This book starts quickly with a major tragedy. Kathleen wakes up in a hospital bed and finds out that her best friend and most loyal brother has been killed. It is a miracle that Kathleen survived the accident but guilt plagues her and she doesn’t know how to deal with it.

Colin, a physiotherapist, knows what Kathleen is going through. He has been there himself and he dedicates his time to helping Kathleen. He knows he has a special connection with her, but more so, she knows it too. But to what lengths are they willing to go for her recovery? And can spending so much time together be good for doctor and patient? Kathleen and Colin share such a beautiful bond in this story and I was swept away with emotions reading it. But what happens when Kathleen’s condition doesn’t improve? Can Colin still find it in his heart to want to be with her? Can Kathleen look beyond her own grief and learn to let someone else in?

Together these two can fight the battle but with a little help from above they can conquer anything, including their feelings! They both have to learn to live again, one with a new disability and great loss in her heart and the other has to learn how to let love in to his.

This was such a beautiful story, not only of amazing characters, but of love and faith and overcoming life’s downs. I loved Colin and his desires to not only help Kathleen but I loved reading how he had to overcome his own past to let her into his heart. I was very impressed with how moved I was by this book. It was well written and struck a chord within my heart. I adored it so much!

Arc review

This is definitely one type of book I truly try to stay away from. My beliefs are very strong when it comes to the afterlife, angels, and things like that. I'm an avid believer, but I feel that it is hard to put it down on paper to make it real. Well in this case I was wrong. I was totally memorized by this book. The author took a very sensitive topic and made it so real, that it makes you believe. She told a sad story, and made it about hope and trust. There is honestly nothing about this book that I can say I hated or thought it could be better. The storyline was impeccable, no lines were crossed, and it was told beautifully.

Its starts with a deep tragedy, one that will throw anyone through a loop. The sadness that overwhelms you at the beginning, only gives you hope that something in the book will change. To let go of someone is not easy, especially if you DONT want to, and well that is how this story starts. How can you recover if you DONT want to. How do you live if you DONT want to. And most importantly how do you begin to live again? I can't go into details of this book, but I can tell you that this book gives you hope that everyone can heal sometime.

I absolutely love this book. I would recommend this book to many people and hope they get out of it what I did; there is someone looking out for you, you DONT have to see them to realize they are there to guide you through life, no matter what is dealt.

Hugged By An Angel is the story of Colin and Kathleen. Kathleen was in an accident that put her in a wheelchair and killed her beloved brother. Colin is the physiotherapist working with her. Colin is compassionate and understanding, as he too has suffered loss in his life, and wants to help Kathleen regain her life even though she is angry and guilty that she survived and her brother did not. The two of them have a connection that transcends Kathleen’s handicap, but they will only have a future together if she can let go of her anger and move on after her brother’s death. Can they do it on their own or will they need a little intervention from above?
This story was a beautiful read. There are so many emotions evoked by it, sadness at the loss of Kathleen’s brother and her struggling with her handicap, hope as her and Colin begin to see one another in a romantic way, and belief in something spiritual, just to name a few. Kathleen’s character feels very real and genuine in how she feels guilt and anger about the accident. Colin is just truly amazing in his willingness to help Kathleen and see her for the woman that she is rather than just a patient in a wheelchair. Another beautifully written story with complex characters by the talented Roberta Capizzi.

A beautiful, highly emotional read. I was blubbering my way through this. This is for everyone who has lost a loved one.

Kathleen is devastated by an accident that leaves her paralysed and her brother snatched away from her. This is her journey as she attempts to rebuild her life, get the use of her legs back and learns to open her heart to a wealth of possibility.

Colin is an Irish/American physiotherapist who is charged with helping her regain the use of her lower body, with the most gorgeous dimples. Colin is no stranger to loss as he is dealing with the loss of his own parents from when he was a teenager.

Together they open their hearts to the possibility of life and love and Colin sees the person behind the injury. Together they find peace of mind and with a little help from an angel, true love and a miracle.

I loved this story - it brought back sad memories of my own loss but equally the idea of lost loved ones being angels is a comforting one. It is something I truly believe and it left me with lots of hope, feeling comforted and a bin full of tissues.

These characters were wonderful. Colin is amazing and Kathleen, with all that happened in her life her loss and handling waking up and finding out she could feel your legs. When she got angry, I felt her anger and I never felt that she was a selfish person. You understand that everything and anything is says to Colin is so that he does not get hurt.

“I don’t mean to hurt you, Colin. I’d never want to hurt you.”
“You’re hurting me now, in case you hadn’t realized.”

It was a beautiful and touching story. However, it was hard for me to rate because I really liked the characters and the story, but some parts fell short for me.
Nonetheless, Colin and Kathleen both experienced lose and I like the way the author showed how these two characters helped each other. Friendship grew into so much more. The book showed how even when things are at their lowest, there is hope and that sometimes love can work miracles.

Favorite Quotes:

“I know what it feels to have someone you love taken away from you abruptly with no chance to say goodbye, no chance to tell them how much you loved them,” he said, his eyes still locked with mine. “I know the pain, the emptiness, the rage, the despair that takes hold of your body, crushing your heart and leaving you breathless. But you can’t let it destroy you.”
I stared at him openmouthed, feeling my heart ache at the way his eyes had lost their gleam.”

“An angel?” he finished my sentence and I nodded. He looked at me, his blue eyes deeper than ever. “I’m not only an angel, Kathy. I’m your angel. I’m here to help you. I’ve been sent to cure your soul and help you fulfill your destiny.”

“Look for me in a rainbow, in the wind, in a blue sky. You’ll see me there, smiling at you from Heaven.”
Declan was there, hugging me in his own”

Do you believe in Ghost? Do you believe in angels? Do you believe in miracles? If you do then this is a book for you.

Kathleen had a dream, a plan and a loving brother but a tragic accident took it all away from her in an instant including her brother. Confined to a wheelchair and knowing her life will never be the same again at least she thought so. Then she meets her physiotherapist Colin and he decided his is going to make it his mission to help her but he is not sure why.

Colin is a man who like Kathleen has had his share of pain in his life. He lost his parents in a plane crash at a young age which means he really does know what Kathleen (aka Icy to him) is going through. What neither of them expects is that they will help each other heal. How can they heal each other you ask? Well they don’t do it alone they do it with the help of their angels, yes, that’s right I said their angels. The angels are her brother Declan and his parents. They help to show them they are there for them in their hearts and will always be there you just may not always see or feel them.

Overtime their love grows and their hearts heal. With the help of her brother healing touch she is able to walk again. Love can truly work miracles. “If you believe”…

This story is a heart wrenching, tragic, tear jerker. Make sure when you read this you have tissues. Crying is a strong possibility. They way Colin and Kathleen banter with each other is awesome. They both learn to lean on each other and trust each other. I found myself so involved in the story that I started yelling for her to listen and laughed and cried right along with her and Colin. I do believe in angels and these two had three. Loved the story… Can't wait to read another of her stories.

I was so very lucky to get a signed paperback and I'm so very grateful.
You know, I was always Skeptical about the whole "everything happen for a reason" thing..now I truly believe it does.
This book had a reallu huge impact for me, because I know what it's like to grieve and suffer, just as much as Kathleen does, so I totally felt this story. I cried, a lot, because the situation Kathleen found herself in were so tragic, but I smiled too, because Colin was truly an amazing character. No matter what he went through hiself,he was so strong and willing to help Kathleen.
This book is so much more than a simple love story..it's about family, friendship, love, loss, grieving..and start to live again when you have a second chance, allow someone else to be there for you when you don't feel like it, finding that someone that helps put things in perspective..but most of all itt shows you how much believing in faith and love can help you.
Thank you for this story, Roberta. Please, buy this book!!!!

Never as any book touched me to the core of my soul like Hugged by an Angel did. I fell in love with this story and every character. I cried and laughed and even felt a hug or two of my own. This was a very beautifully written story that as far as I am concerned was meant to touch your soul. Kathleen and Colin are amazing characters that take your breath away and sweep you right along the path that their journey takes them. I have read tons of books but none that have embraced me like this story did. Roberta Capizzi writes such a fabulous breath taking story that will leave you wondering if angels truly do exist.
I could sit here all day and sing the praises of this book to you but I won't as I believe in love at first sight and so should you. So go and get a copy of Hugged by an Angel and find an angel or two of your own.

A warm, sweet, feel-good story - just like an angel´s hug. Although the beginning is very bleak, the book has a very positive message, that true love can conquer all.
The main character, Kathleen, is involved in a car accident in which her life is destroyed in many ways. To find a way to rebuild her life, not to mention have the will to do so, is the crux of the story.
I think many people will relate to the difficulty in dealing with a bereavement. But just as many will enjoy the romance that develops out of such a dark place. And although there are some love scenes, they are very mild and would barely make your grandmother blush. It is overwhelmingly a story of the strength of true love, something that seems to be scarcely mentioned these days.
A cosy read.

A miracle, a romance and so much more. I loved this story. In my opinion, there’s more than one angel in this book, and you can never have too many angels! In a car accident, Kathleen has lost her brother and ended up in a wheelchair. Colin, her physiotherapist, realizes he has to do everything he can to help her. He tries more than your usual physiotherapist, caring very deeply. Nothing seems to work. Kathleen gets a visitor that she misses very much. Colin can’t love because of the hurt from the loss in his life. The author holds your attention through this entire book. She tells a wonderful story with amazing characters. I would recommend this book to everyone. You will not be disappointed.

This is my favorite book by Roberta Capizzi. This book really touched my heart. The love that Kathy lost and had to learn to recover was such a touching story that I cried my way through some parts of the book. Sometimes because it was sad others because I was so happy for her. You can feel every emotion Roberta is writing which is a sign of a great writer. This book will go down as an all time top 10 for me.

Great book. I loved it.

Kathleen was going to fulfill one of her dreams. She was going to live in New York with her brother Declan. But a traffic accident took it all away. Her dreams, the mobility of her legs and Declan, her best friend, the person who understood her.

At the hospital, she met Colin, the doctor who was going to treat her. He told her about her brother's death. He, who had suffered a similar loss, wanted to be by her side, to help her smile.

They didn't expect it, but they both fell in love. He didn't want to get close to her. She was breaking down the walls of his heart. She thought he couldn't love her, because she wasn't a normal person. She tried to push him away. She didn't think he can love her, that he can endure being with her all his life, without having a normal life. He told her that he wanted her, to wait for her. He didn't know how to prove it. And she was unable to see it. She needed help from her brother.

I cried a lot.

I loved Colin and Kathleen. He was a nice man, she was a lovely girl. They were perfect for each other.

I loved 'ghost' Declan. I would like to know more about 'human' Declan.

It was easy to empathize with Kathleen, with her suffering, and also with Colin.

They both fear that their families will reject them. He, because they would think he took advantage of her. And she, for not being enough in the eyes of her grandmother.

I loved that Kathleen and David reconciled. She believed that he hated her, and he believed that she didn't want to be with him, to spend time together.

Also, I loved that she recognized she wasn't the only one who suffers. Everyone had lost Declan. Everyone suffered. David had made himself strong, for his parents, for her. He lost his best friend, he was also going to live with him, and he couldn't cry.

I recommend it.

I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.

Healing Our Hearts #1 - This is my first read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A delightful, heartbreaking, heartwarming story of healing. The heart wrenching sadness that the two main characters faced and their recovery, along with the discovery of love for each other made it difficult to put the book down.

This tearjerker is well written and the storylines and journeys mesmerizing. Ms. Roberts does a wonderful job with her writing style, vivid descriptions and fascinating characters. While sad, there is plenty of joy and blessings making this a well balance feel good story.

Kathleen which prefers to be called Kathy was involved in a car accident which killed her brother and might have left her paralyzed. But Colin her physiotherapist decides he can help her because 24 years ago his parents died in a plane crash that he feels guilty about because he was supposed to be with them but he stayed behind to be with his girlfriend. So in the end they heal each other's broken hearts by knowing exactly what the other went through so there is no resentment.

Kathleen used to live. She had plans, dreams and faith in life until she had an accident. Suddenly, life was never the same again. She lost the brother she loved the most, couldn’t feel her legs, will most likely live forever in a wheelchair and her future is uncertain. How can she find the strength to move on? Where will she start? Even Colin, the ever-optimistic physiotherapist couldn’t help her. Life had no longer had its appeal. It no longer meant anything to her. Until one night, when she saw Declan – the brother she lost.
Colin had been working in Dublin as a physiotherapist for half a decade, but he had never been close to any patient, until Kathleen came along. There was something about her that makes him want to help her and bring that smile on her face once again. Her eyes almost mirrored his own some years back – the moment he had lost his parents on a plane crash when he was just sixteen years old: guilt is eating her alive. He knew firsthand how it is like to lose someone you cared for in a snap of a finger and he makes it his mission to help Kathleen, not only to move her legs but to live her life once again. Falling in love wasn’t on his to-do list, he didn’t see it coming. But love comes in the most unexpected time.

I am a Catholic and yes, I believed in angels and miracles. I believe everything in life happens for a reason, even though its painful and unexpected. It makes us tougher. But what happened to Kathleen was just devastating. I completely understand the grief and guilt that has been choking her since the accident. Both emotions can tie you on a chair, ropes heavy enough to keep you down and not allow you to walk.

Hugged by an Angel brings us the journey of a girl who had been through the most agonizing time of her life. It can be quite a drag because it depicts ALMOST the daily happenings in the life of Kathleen and Caleb - how they try to surpass the trials and the past that is thrown at them. But it was worth to see how she stands up from the great fall that she encountered. It was a great 'moving' novel. Roberta Capizzi gives inspiration to readers that anything can happen when you have faith and you believe. Miracles can happen, love can make anything possible.

As she, Kathleen (Kathy), opens her eyes she knows something is not right but there is a bright light that is shining that is making it hard to see but she knows she is not on her way to New York with Declan her brother. There is something in her nose and when she goes to take it out she can’t because she has tubes coming out of her arm. She is not a big fan of needles but once her eyes adjust to the bright light she sees that sure enough she has them in her are and she has fluids being pumped into her and it is causing the machines to beep and echo into the room. So, she now knows for sure she is in the hospital. How had she gotten there? Why was she there? Then, she was hearing people outside the room talking but was not sure they would be able to hear her if she called so she decided to get out of bed. There was a problem though her legs wouldn’t move an inch. Wait that can’t be right, so she goes to feel them, pinching them and nothing she can’t feel them at all. Panic took over, she sat up as best she could, she wasn’t as strong as she thought and the arm that she had the IV in slips and she tumbles off the bed onto the floor face first. Everything goes off and the people come running but especially, Colin, the man she has no clue that will be the man to save her life. But, Icy, as she will be no will cut him no slack from the very beginning. Colin doesn’t know it either but Kathleen saves his life also. They are brought together by a tragic event that saves them and unites them and the families they come from. This story that this author weaves is heart wrenching and beautifully told. I found myself wanting to cry at times and laughing out loud at others. Stopping and reading passages to my husband in others. I loved the way these two characters bantered and lovingly trusted one another with their lives and their hearts. It was a pleasure reading this book and I was sent this book by the author for a honest review.

This book is a must read. A story that will find a way to your heart. The story that will bring you to tears. But at the same time it will make you laugh.

In a tragic accident in which Kathleen lost her brother something tragic also happened to her. She was confined to a wheelchair. She knew her life would never be the same.

She was crushed, broken, empty. She felt betrayed, ruin. She was fill with rage.

Colin was her physiotherapist. He wanted to be always there for her cause he knew what she was going through. The feeling of losing someone you love. He wanted her to cry, to stop pretending to be strong, to just let tears flow.

He was always there to cheer her up, make her smile.

With time, the feelings they have for each other grew more and more.

Book shows that love truly works miracles.

Love the way book was written. Can´t wait to read more books from Roberta.
