A professor in an introduction to the Old Testament class in college was the first to introduce the idea to me that the Bible could be flawed or fictional due to its seeming contradictions and the fact that it was potentially distorted by centuries of human re-recording. I remember how this comment enraged some of the students in the class who'd been brought up with a strong biblical based faith. Although I only attended that class for 2 weeks at most and never completed it (not because of what the professor said), this comment stuck in my mind just the same as I'm sure it did for many brought up without a strong faith in or understanding of the Bible. Funny how the smallest moments or chance happenings can serve as a gauge for all that you subsequently take in and believe or disbelieve. Fortunately God keeps us in check on some level so that we know better somewhere deep inside.
Just as I never researched too much what the professor said way back then, I have not researched on any level what Grant R. Jeffrey has said in this book. However, I'm really glad to have come across, without looking for it, a great counter-weight to the impression that the professor left on me way back then. Jeffrey seems knowledgeable across a wide spectrum of subjects and presents a formidable, passionate stance that really makes you want to give the Bible a chance if you've ever doubted it. Though I was confused by the Bible as a youth as I'm sure a lot of youth would be, I didn't cast it aside back then as I sort of did after crossing paths with the professor. Though I could never fully admit to myself or anyone else thereafter that my faith in the Bible was hanging by a string - it was. However, over the past several years, and ironically prior to reading this book, I'd begun to gravitate back towards the Bible. This, I believe, has been due to life experiences (i.e. the hand of God) combined with an immersing in literature that has allowed me to recognize the beauty and complexity of the Bible. As much as I appreciate the insight I've gained through reading a fair amount of literature and in effect, seeing many things from many perspectives, there is an obvious other-worldliness, complexity and humanity relative element to what the authors of the Bible said and wrote versus other authors of other works of any kind. Jeffrey's book has solidified what I already had in mind and instilled in me an excitement over getting to know the Bible better. And just that alone I think is a monumental testament to Jeffrey's book. I was saddened to find online today that Grant R. Jeffrey passed away on May 11th of this year - just when I was reading his book and appreciating his enthusiasm and authorship. I really enjoyed this book and what he had to say and the passion with which he said it. He was detailed and gave many clear and concise examples of what he was talking about. He is someone that I would've like to heard more from - to have seen speak in person, etc. However, timing is as it is for a reason and so I will just be thankful to have gained from him what I did in this book. Highly recommended to everyone!

Densely packed with irrefutable archeological, historical, and scientific proof that the Bible is the inspired Word of God! The late Grant Jeffrey thoroughly presents key discoveries and proofs that even the atheist or agnostic cannot deny. I grew up raised in the faith and always believed that the Bible was the inspired Word of God. This book just reinforces my faith. I highly recommend this book to everyone who is seeking proof for themselves or as a believer to reinforce your faith!

This is a revised 2002 edition. It’s a good book for those who are staunchly against the Bible as the written Word of God. The author done extensive research into many profound truth to prove the validity of the contents. Go get it for those who still don’t believe in the book.

Great insight into fax such as why David’s counselor betrayed him. Why David picked up five stones when he went to kill Goliath. Why God didn’t want the Israelites to have horses from Egypt. And many more.

Wow! What an impressive book.

The final section on Bible codes is, despite the author's enthusiasm, the least compelling part of the argument. I've taught statistics for too long to be convinced by this without having a lot of questions answered first. For a start, Hebrew names tend to be just a few letters long, since vowels are lacking. So finding a name across an equidistant letter gap (when that gap in sequence can be almost any length) is hardly surprising. While it looks impressive to have found the name Anwar Sadat along with 'president', 'gunfire', 'shot' and 'murder' - I want to ask some salient questions: 'Just what is the ancient Hebrew word for president? I wasn't aware the concept existed until modern times, so I'd like more information. And what word has been translated gunfire? And what word has been translated murder? Harag or ratsach? Both of these have just three letters in Hebrew.' And another: 'Did the entire name Anwar Sadat appear? Or was it just the sdt of Sadat?'

All in all, as far as I am concerned, the jury is still out on Bible codes. The whole deal looks so persuasive in English but, between my knowledge of mathematics and of Hebrew, I do not think the odds are anywhere near as long as are claimed.

Ok, so the last couple of chapters didn't gel for me. However, this slight deficiency is more than made up for by some of the earlier sections. In particular, Jeffrey's own personal discovery about the timing of the formation of the modern state of Israel. He makes the point that Ezekiel prophesied that the period of punishment God decreed for the sins of Judah and Israel would be 430 years. After the fall of Jerusalem to the armies of Babylon, it would be 430 years until the nation would be restored in its own land. Even a cursory glance at history indicates this did not happen. So, either Ezekiel was not a prophet who heard from God and his report was mistakenly included in Holy Writ - or - there's a missing element. Jeffrey points out that Leviticus 26:18 declares that, if God's people still do not repent when the appointed time for punishment is fulfilled, then the punishment will be extended seven times. In calculating this extended time (using Biblical years of 360 days, rather than standard years of 365.25), he concludes that the sevenfold punishment would be complete in May 1948. This is of course the very month and year when the modern nation state of Israel was declared.

There are many other intriguing and interesting parts to this book but this is the one I found most fascinating.

I liked this book a lot, I'd give it a 3.5 stars. This book went into territory that other apologetic books don't go. It also had some interesting claims in history/archeology that I want to research more. Awkwardly the author devotes to much time in the last 1/3rd of the book to "bible codes." For me at least it ruined the continuity of the book I and while interesting it's intense speculation at best. I very much enjoyed the end where the author encourages the reader to weigh the evidence and decide for yourself who Christ is , because eternity is at stake. If you're interested in apologetics this would be an interesting read for you.
