Book one of the Girls Most Likely to…

Ten years after being voted Most Likely to Succeed, Kelsey Moore is still living in her hometown, still working in her family's flower shop, and too embarrassed to attend her high school reunion. Only the chance to reconnect with her study buddyand secret crushNathan Barrow tempts her to go.

Nathan isn't sure why he came back for the reunion after spending the past decade working abroad. But when he runs into his former lab partner, Kelsey, he's sure glad he did. The chemistry between them is as potent as ever, and when she offers him a weekend of wild, no-strings-attached sex, Nathan knows he'd be a fool to say no.

Nathan can't be tied to one place for long. But the more time they spend togetherin and out of bedthe more Kelsey wonders if their reunion could become something more permanent. That is, if Nathan is still interested when he finds out she's been less than honest with him about her life since graduation…

For me this book just never got going. It failed to grab my attention and I struggled to get to the end even though it was quite short.

I found the storyline quite boring and didn’t really like the characters. Nathan was bland and boring. Kelsey is full of self-pity and liked herself a little too much. Because of this I couldn’t really connect to the romance.

I liked the idea but the whole high school reunion thing has been done before and has been done better.

This was a cute, quick read from a new-to-me author. I loved the premise--the high school reunion--as I'm a fan of fanning those old flames. While this one wasn't exactly like that (heroine harbored a crush, hero saw her as just a friend), it still had that nostalgic feel that I love.

While I really like the idea of these being a series of different couples on the same weekend (or so I assume...), I don't think the kinks of that quite got ironed out. There were pieces that were dangled in front of our faces, but we didn't have enough details on to get the whole picture. I understand the blanks will be filled in during the later novellas, but it still had me tilting my head a bit while reading.

I enjoyed the hero, Nathan, and the side characters, Tess and Bree, but the MC in this one wasn't my favorite. She was a little woe-is-me for my taste.

However, this was short, sweet, and the sex was hot, so if you're looking for a quick afternoon read, this might be perfect for you.

Two friends meet after 10 years apart at their high school reunion.
Kelsey, voted Girl Most Likely to Succeed, never made it to Stanford, remained in their home town, and worked in her mother's flower shop ever since. She's unhappy about the way things turned out.
Nathan spent the last decade working for an international charity which specialises in providing water services in disaster areas.
Within a very short time they are at it like rabbits.
And, shortly after, there's a HEA.
It's nicely done, though it is not for me – too sweet!

Sometimes you read a book and you know immediately you’ve read the author before. That was the case with Most Likely To Succeed, by the end of the first chapter I knew I’d read this author and I knew that
I’d loved what I read but I couldn’t remember any of the titles. I know that sounds bad, but I read a lot so I immediately hopped on Amazon and found out that yes, I had indeed read everything she’d written. Kate Davies has an easy style that puts you immediately at ease and immerses you into the story. I found myself very caught up in this book, with these characters, and the characters I’m sure we’ll see in the next two books of this series. This series takes place at a ten year high school reunion and although my 10 year reunion is long, long past; I remember attending and still remember how little some people had changed emotionally and maturity wise) and also how the cliques of the past remained the cliques of the future.

Kelsey was voted most likely to succeed in high school yet circumstances beyond her control have left her feeling less than worthy and dreading her 10 year reunion. Her best friend Tess the reunion organizer insists that she attend if for no other reason than to connect with her former lab partner and secret crush. As much as she’d love to see Nathan again she’s worried she’ll look like a failure in his eyes something she doesn’t want to see.

Nathan was the typical high school science geek. He was pretty oblivious to everything in high school and only attended activities Kelsey dragged him to. He’s made quite the name and career for himself and he’s pretty happy with his life. But, he’s never forgotten his gorgeous lab partner and it’s the only reason he’s attending his reunion.

This is one of those stories I think almost anyone can relate to because very few people’s lives have turned out exactly the way they wanted it to. Personally I think Kelsey is one of those people who got stuck in a rut and couldn’t figure out how to get out of it. It took some gentle prodding and a big ole’ case of mad to get her to do something about it. I honestly think Nathan is basically happy in his life but once he reunites with Kelsey he realizes what has been missing even though he never really thought about it.

This is a novella so it moves at a very quick pace but considering these two knew each other for four years in high school, they aren’t exactly strangers. I will say their intimate scenes are quite scorching and pretty plentiful. They are definitely making up for lost time and trying to make the most of their weekend/reunion fling.
Throughout the story we see Kelsey’s best friends, Tess and Bree and get an idea of where there stories are headed but not so much as to spoil them. I’ll admit, I’m really anxious to see what happens to them at the reunion.

Although short, we have enough background information on these two that their story is believable. I very much enjoyed watching these two discover each other as adults and love where they are headed in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed Most Likely To Succeed; it’s sexy, fun, and entertaining! On top of that, I’m happy to see Katie releasing books again and am looking forward to going back and re-reading the ones I already have!

Kelsey is not happy with where she is in life. Voted by her class as Most Likely to Succeed, she is still living in her hometown tending to her family's business. Her high school reunion is coming up and she is not thrilled about attending, but her best friend is a coordinator and convinces her to go. Well, actually more like bullied her to go.

Nathan hasn't been back to his hometown since he left after graduation. He works abroad and doesn't know where his job will take him from month to month, so he is surprised when he finds himself confirming his attendance. He admits that the only reason he wants to go it's to see Kelsey again. Although never romantically involved in high school, they were lab partners and shared a love for knowledge and a desire to succeed. Of course, he also had a crush on her and can't wait to see her again.

Most Likely to Succeed is a light, romantic read with many 'Awww...' moments that will have you grinning all throughout the book. I liked Kelsey's character very much. Although she thought she was a failure because she stayed behind working the family business, she still did her job well and made the business a success. And Nathan? I loved him. Funny, smart and sexy, Nathan was honest about his attraction to Kelsey and understanding of her past. I adored him within a couple of pages and ended falling in love with him by the time the story ended.

I appreciated that Kate Davies went about their getting together in a way that was realistic. I liked the fact that they explored their attraction through the weekend but didn't make any declarations of love during their time together even when it was obvious that they had feelings for each other beyond lust. This made me appreciate much more the easy manner in which they related and interacted with each other. Their interactions were packed-full of flirtatious banter and honest revelations, which only made it a joy to read. Each dialogue exchanged revealed a different side to Kesley and Nathan and made their connection more believable and this in turn helped to convince me that they indeed had a future together.

With humor, interesting characters and some emotions thrown in the mix, Kate Davies's writing brought Kesley and Nathan's story to the page beautifully. Although only 69 pages, Most Likely to Succeed was an enjoyable read with many funny and heartfelt moments.

This is the first installment from the Girls Most Likely to... series and the first title from Kate Davies that I've read and it certainly won't be the last. I am looking forward to reading more from this series with the release of Cutest Couple on April 2013.

I received this title from Carina Press through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.

he Plot: The Girls Most Likely To are connected stories that happen around a high school reunion. The first story, Most Likely to Succeed is about Kelsey Moore who was one voted the girl most likely to succeed but had to give up her scholarship to stay in town and help her mother run the family's flower shop.

And 10 years later she's still in town in the same dead-end job with the reunion looming ahead of her. Not to mention seeing her high school crush - and fellow nerd - Nathan Barrow, who went on to become all the things Kelsey did not.

The second story, Cutest Couple, is about one of Kelsey's best friends, Bree. She was voted cutest couple with her boyfriend Marc. But then they broke up around prom when Bree found out he had joined the army - something that hit Bree pretty bad as her dad was also a soldier who died overseas leaving her and her mother alone.

Ten years later they see each other again... and Marc finds out that all those years go, when he left, Bree was pregnant with their son Ben and due to some misplaced letter, he never found out about it.

First Date: On Most Likely to Succeed - It's fun, I do wish Kelsey would get over herself already.
On Cutest Couple - Big misunderstanding plot, full steam ahead!

Second Date: On MLtS - Mmm... yeah, are they ever going to do anything other than have sex?
On CC - Okay, that's the flimsiest excuse ever. Again, wish these people would get over themselves already!! Bree doesn't like the military, that's okay, still not a reason to keep her son from knowing her father. Marc is pissed off... because he joined the military without ever mentioning it to his girlfriend before and she got mad. These are supposed to be grown ups!!

Third Date: On MLts - So... that's the ending. Uh.
On CC - So... that's the end, again. Double Uh.

Relationship Status: It's no me, it's you. We can still be friends, though.

Here is the thing, Both Cutest Couple and Most Likely to Succeed, the aren't bad stories, in fact they had potential to be really good stories and I liked that they basically take place over the same weekend, BUT they also read someone lifted every interaction of the main couple out of a larger novel and just strung said interactions together.

I hope I'm making sense here, basically, what I mean to say is that these two stories (along with what I guess will be the third one about Kelsey and Bree's remaining best friend Tess) would make a heck of a lot more sense if they were all together as a novel, with proper scenes to link them and move the story forward, rather than in the current format as independent novellas.

They are cute, but they do feel like a series of vignettes more than anything else.

What happens when life doesn't take the path you thought it would? What happens if it does but you miss someone from your past and don't know how much until you see them again?

Nathan has been wondering why he is taking his limited down time to come to his high school reunion when he runs in to his former lab partner that he had a bit of a crush on back in school. She's still as attractive as ever but he gets the feeling she is hiding something from him. He begins to pursue her for a fun weekend but is that all he really wants or is there something there that they never acted on all those years ago? He's very sexy and when he puts his attention to her and winning her over there is something so sweet about his ability to see who she really was behind the mask she tried to show him.

Kelsey is the classic case of someone who doesn't understand her own true worth. She was voted most likely to succeed but here she is still in her hometown and only working at her mom's flower shop. She doesn't see that what she does truly is meaningful nor does she see how much she has accomplished even though it isn't exactly what she saw for her life all those years ago. She is still crazy about Nathan and ends up deciding to act on those desires even while feeling guilty that she isn't what she thought he deserved or thought she was. She's got a lot of self-worth issues but Nathan takes this and manages to find a way to get her to open up to him about everything. She really does end up with who/what she deserves at the end of this.

My thanks to NetGalley.com and Carina Press for the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review. I only wish this had been longer as I wanted to see more of these two finding each other and making things work. It was a sweet story just a tad bit rushed.

This was a really cute friends to lovers romance mixed with a second chance love story sort of. Kelsey and Nathan were lab partners and friends back when they were in high school. They both had crushes on the other, although they never acted on it. Now ten years later, they are brought back together by their high school reunion. She’s afraid to admit that although she was once voted Most Likely to Succeed, she hasn’t done anything with her life, unlike Nathan who went off to do amazing things.

The chemistry between Kelsey and Nathan is ridiculous and they are so cute together; the moments they spend together, whether in bed or out, are sweet and definitely worth the ten year wait. However, the drama that threatens to keep them apart is a little forced and could have easily been changed out for something else. It would have been easier to believe Kelsey and Nathan fighting over him not sticking around, then her getting hurt that he wanted to see if he could get her a job doing something that she had said she would love to do.

Either way, I like that things worked out the way they did. It’s an interesting ending that is definitely different from most romances. It’s not what you’d expect, but it works for this couple and is actually really great. I really like Kate Davies’ writing and her characters. I look forward to reading more by her and not just the rest of the Girls Most Likely to series.

Kelsey feels like a failure, she has never lived up to everyone’s expectations much less her own. Upon graduating from high school, this brilliant student could only forego her waiting scholarship for her mother’s security and sanity after her father walked out on them. Ten years later she’s still tied to her mother and their small flower business.

Nathan went off to do everything he set out to do after high school. Everything is going well for him except there’s still no one permanent in his life. His work brings him to every corner of the world so it is quite difficult to have a relationship. Then he sees Kelsey.

The reunion goes off without a hitch, especially for Kelsey and Nathan who more than reconnects. Eventually though Nathan has to know the truth about Kelsey, and when he does, will Kelsey be ready to let him go?

My Review:

Cute and sweet

Obviously with an easy story like this, there’s barely any complications. Reading this felt like a ride on a side street, slow and easy, stopping briefly on a hump, then driving full speed past it.

There’s nothing original nor heart wrenching about this at all. The characters are likable, the dialogues are ordinary and the writing is capable. Other than that, it’s nothing you haven’t read before.
Warning: Some scenes are scorching hot. So read with caution.

This story grew on me. I was almost ready to put it down halfway through, but by the end of the book I was enjoying it and wanting to read the next in the series.

I liked the high school reunion set up and it was believable to me that Nathan and Kelsey lost touch and Kelsey felt ashamed for never going on to school. I liked the nerdy features of Nathan's personality.

I think the biggest flaw of the story was that it felt rushed to me. I know, I know, it's a short story, but Kelsey's self-confidence issues related to her job and schooling were actually pretty big and I felt like a lot of the growth and self understanding I wanted to see happened off page between the last chapter and the epilogue.

Probably the strongest aspect of the book was that Kelsey and Nathan felt like real people. They made real mistakes and responded to those mistakes like real people would. This was best shown in the last half of the book.

The next book in this series, Cutest Couple comes out in April. I suspect that the stories will take place in the same 4 days of the class reunion. That's an interesting set up. I'm not sure whether I'd like it more as one big book with 3 storylines or 3 separate short stories. I think I'm going to enjoy the short stories more. We'll see - this first one hooked me enough to want to continue anyway!

The series revolves around a ten year high school reunion. Kelsey, Bree and Tess are long time friends who graduated together Kelsey was the brain of the trio. She had a full ride scholarship to college, but circumstances made her stay home and help her mother out. Her best guy friend and lab partner, Nathan got out and has been traveling the world. When Nathan and Kelsey get together, she is reluctant to tell him what she has been up to.

It was fun to see Kelsey and Nathan look at each other differently after ten year. The chemistry between them is sizzling. They really heat up the sheets! It was nice to see that their friendship was so strong in high school that after so long, it was like no time had passed. I loved what Nathan does for Kelsey in the end! While, I'm not a huge fan of HFN endings, this one was pretty satisfying.

Synopsis
Kelsey Moore is embarrassed to still be working at her family's flower shop when her 10 year high school reunion. The only thing that could draw her to the event is the hope of seeing her high school crush, Nathan Barrow.

Review
This novel felt short and light. None of the characters were really explored, this made the story feel like a light romp. Unfortunately, it also meant that I was never able to actually get into the story. The plot was very quick, and I had expected a bit more something.

My RecommendationIt was a fun, very light read. I give it 3/5 - Good, but not something I would repeat

Loved it! When you use a Love Boat reference you have my heart! But all kidding aside. I really liked this novella. I loved Nathan, he was so sweet. Kesley I had to warm up to in the beginning but by the first reunion event I was rooting for her.

If I had to mention one thing that bothered me a little bit it was the transition between the penultimate and the last chapter. At first I thought I'd missed a chapter as it felt like the resolution of the conflict between Kelsey and Nathan was brushed over. Then when I realised they'd somehow made up, Ijust went with it.

I loved the secondary characters and the idea of a high school reunion was excellently incorporated in the story. I really look forward to Bree's story and Tess and Jeremy's too!!

Overall it was a nice story, but much shorter than I had imagined. But, and I do mean but... I had some issues with the girl.

She's so pissy about the fact that she stayed behind to work in a flower shop... Wow... uhh could you be anymore diva????

Is it not good enough for you? Did it not support you when you were a child? You parents own the damn place, you should be proud. And he's a biggie... if you don't like it put your big girl panties on and do something about it!

Ok, rant over. Have a nice day...

Most Likely to Succeed by Kate Davies is a sweet and hot novella that will leave you wanting more.

Kelsey Moore was voted the girl most likely to succeed by her graduating class. But unexpected life circumstances took her away from her dreams. Now she works in her family flower shop helping her mother and she finds no way out.

Nathan Barrow has not returned to town since he graduated and moved. Now with the ten year reunion coming, he finds it to be the perfect opportunity to follow up with the only friend he had in school, his lab partner Kelsey.Read More...

I was in the mood for something totally light, quick and cute and this was the perfect fit. It was short, fun and sweet. I felt it was good paced for short book. The chemistry between Nathan and Kelsey felt good. It was a bit quirky and passionate. At times Kelsey's self doubt made me want to punch her in the face but with Nathan she finally got over herself.

This is a sweet series with good friends, regret, hope and love.

This is a short, sweet and light contemporary romance. Despite its flaws it is a quick and satisfying read which flows easily. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Bree and Tessa’s stories evolve in the rest of the series. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an intro to contemporary romance.

Kelsey was voted most likely to succeed in high school, with a scholarship to college what could go wrong, but things changed and she turned down the scholarship to help with her family’s flower shop. Now with her huge crush and lab partner Nathan coming back for the school reunion, she will have to face him and the feeling she has not only about him but about her life’s choices. This book is hot and sexy and the characters have amazing chemistry. The flow of the story was nice and easy to follow. I loved this book and I am sure many other will enjoy this story.

Most Likely to Succeed was a short quick read. I have never read this author before so I thought that I would give her a try. This romance was not the plot type that I have read before and I really like that. The grammar was not the best, but despite that this was a pretty good read. It was just ok for me.

What a great novella by Kate Davies!!! After reading this book, I felt like I was back at my 10 year reunion. Kate does a great job of bringing to life both main characters. Once I started to read, I couldn't get enough of Kelsey & Nathan. They were just smoking up the pages. Make sure to read all there in this series! :)

It was ok read, nothing spectacular or boring about it. It had some steamy love scenes other than that it was ok. One thing that made me really annoyed with the heroine in the book is that she is so insecure about herself that made me want to be inside the book and smack her to sense!

Well the premise was interesting but overall nothing stood out for me. Kelsey and Nathan were cute together and I loved that there was no huge angst between them. Otherwise an okay read.
